Alec whistled cheerfully as he sauntered past the duplexes in a leisurely stroll, hands in his pockets and headphones in his ears. He figured he'd pay a certain lizard girl a visit after he and Bobby had seen her on the beach, curious as to what she was up to. He never missed a moment to try and pry the shy female from her quarters in an attempt to make her feel better about herself.

Coming up on Amaya's duplex, the grungey teen stopped at the doorway and knocked, bouncing his head to the loud music blaring through the discman.

It was still rather early in the evening when Amaya had passed out, and after the seizure had stopped she lay there unconscious for a few moments. The knock on the door brought her back slightly.

Even though her eyes had already been open, after she blinked them she could see again. Everything looked to different. Things were brighter. And something about how she saw things was wrong, but she was too disoriented to realize what exactly.

Where was she?

... She could smell blood. And her scent. All over the room. Someone was at the door.

But she made no move to get up. The green iguana's head turned to look towards the door... but she noticed as she faced it she couldn't see it anymore.

... What...?

Alec leaned impatiently on the door as he waited for any sign of it being opened soon, now that his knock had gone unanswered. He knocked again and waited....

and again....

"'Mayaaaa." The teen called out unenthusiastically after his next knock was ignored. It hadn't occurred to him that she may not be home at the time because in the past, she'd always been there. Naive opinions convinced him she never strayed far. "Open th' door, aye?!"

It was Alec. She should get the door.

As she sat up the memories of moments ago flashed through her mind. ... And she realized she was staring down a green snout. Hesitantly she reached up, her large hand coming in contact with it. She could feel it... it was a part of her.

Everything went ice cold, yellow eyes snapping open. Her face... HER FACE! She scrambled back, banging her back against the wall despite how tired she was.

Alec was all but oblivious to the sound of the loud thump from inside, still plugged in to his CD player. He hadn't thought to take it off yet. "'Mayaaaaa..." Came another call as he let out a long and annoyed sigh. Glancing over, he saw the window frame and shuffled over to it to peek inside.

Grey eyes scanned the room slowly until the large green mass sprawled awkwardly across Amaya's bed caught his attention. It had to be her, and she didn't seem to be moving and therefore deduced that she couldn't possibly be alright.

Eyes went wide in panic as the flustered boy quickly looked back and forth between the window and his surroundings, frozen in fear of what the staff could have done to her. It wasn't long before he was pounding loudly on the door in an attempt to rouse her from outside and although he tried to doorknob, in his jittery movements the door wouldn't budge.

What was he going to do? Call for help? He felt more like running in circles at that point. Staring at the barrier between him and the room, the teen's brow furrowed in determination. There was only one thing left to do. Grasping and turning the doorknob, he decided the thing needed a good heeve-ho. Bracing himself for impact, he drew back and tensed his muscles before ramming his shoulder as hard as he could into the door.

.... Unfortunate for him, the door had been unlocked. In his panic, he'd been unable to turn the knob far enough to elicit the desired response. The impact of his full weight on the door caused it to easily swing open and Alec soon found himself landing HARD on the floor of Amaya's duplex.

Meanwhile, Amaya was in a delerius panic. Her eyes were scrunched shut as she sat next to her bed, pressed against the wall. Even though she wanted to cry and scream, she couldn't. So she settled to screaming and crying in her head.

The black t-shirt she wore had been torn a lot at the neck and chest to make room for her wider girth, though still clung on by a couple strands. Her shorts had also been pushed down and to her knees now that her tail seemed to join the rest of her body.

The girl kicked and thrashed. Her tail (now as long as she was tall) whipping around the room wildly between her legs and smacking into the legs of her bed. Her large hands racked down her new snout, trying to claw it off and turn it back to normal somehow.

Alec had only a few moments to be left dazed on the ground before his senses began to come back to him. With a rough shake of his head, he began lifting himself off the ground (thoroughly humiliated for what he'd just done) and looked up at the chaos that was taking hold over the room.

Amaya... -or so he thought- was in somesort of frenzy, thrashing like a beast in a fury of claws and scales. Her tail whipped at the air and hit several things- the wall, the floor, the bed- several times, every thump it made when it hit sent a jolt through his body. But unlike some rabid creature, this thrashing was entirely soundless. Was she suffocating? In pain? Psychotic? He wanted to draw near but the truth was that the scene was frightening him beyond belief. The carnage, though minimal, held his attention. Her... its? movements were wild and savage.

It was then the somehow familiar smell wafted to his sense, the metal sting that touched his tongue and made him salivate.

He refuse to give in to it. Covering his nose and mouth with his hand, his eyes began to water along with his mouth as he struggled to draw nearer. He couldn't even force himself to say something as he mutely stared, trying to seem invisible. ".... Am..." He gulped down hard, clenching his serated jaw to stifle his reaction. "Amaya?"

Thankfully her scales were tough, but they still didn't block everything as her claws ripped into some parts of her long snout. Shortly after she heard her name, she started to get too tired to keep up. Her raking stopped, arms falling into her lap.

Get it off... get it off...

Slowly her strange new eyes opened, spotting just the side of Alec. Her head instinctivly tilted to the side to look at him with one eye. Amaya didn't like the almost repulsed look on his face. Or that's how she interperated it.

Her mouth quivered and scrunched up in a human gesture that looked so alien on an emotionless face. The tail near him slowly withdrew, curling around her form as she turned to her side and leaned up against the wall. Her arms and legs hid her long snouth, tail curling up and around her as she tried to hide her hidious face from him.

Of all people, why Alec?

He was thankful when he watched her eventually stop, the streaming cuts of self-mutilation were clearer now that her entire form wasn't some blurry frenzy of claws and tail. He would've given a sigh of relief if his throat wasn't so tight that it seemed a chore to inhale so deeply.

It seemed that Amaya's nightmare was finally complete, the surreal image of it all was almost too much to take in all at once. She didn't look anything like Amaya anymore. The youngster kneeled near the doorway of the duplex even as the silence settled once more, the door having swung itself almost completely shut with the light breeze of the jungle.

It'd seem like an eternity before Alec slowly withdrew his hand from his face, the tears streaming down his cheeks were difficult to distinguish between his watering eyes or if he was in fact crying for the poor girl. Gathering his courage though his body shook from head to toes, he managed to command his vocal cords once again only to repeat the word he's uttered before. "....Amaya?" The saliva was thick in his mouth and garbled his speech a bit, but he continued to stare at her cowering form.

Amaya flinched as her name was called again, curling up tighter and hugging her head with with hands and between her knees. The sobs that came from her mouth were almost deathly silent if it hadn't been for the room being quiet.

She had yet to see herself, but knew it was bad.

"Is me... Alec." Alec felt the need to reacert the obvious fact, just in case she was still disoriented or perhaps frightened. Even without taking into account her curled up position, it was very hard to read her expression. He had no idea what she was feeling, thinking. He did happen to notice the shudder when he spoke her name again and it almost hurt him to see it.

"Are ye.... ekay?" He tried to edge himself around so that he could see her face, still sitting a ways away from her. All the while he tried to tell himself that there was no reason to fear her, that it was still the same friend inside that alien shell. "Does i' 'urt... ?" He didn't know how else to communicate his concern.

The lizard sniffled, her body quivering as she gave a slow nod. Even such a small gesture sending her dizzy. She scrunched her eyes shut to try and help it go away. Her head was so heavy... and what was wrong with her neck, shoulders, and chest? Everything felt so missproportioned.

Slowly her head raised and looked over at Alec. The colours around the room made her eyes sting and her head hurt. Amaya was so tired. So achey. Her head was killing her... and she was hungry. But she didn't care. All she could think about was being scared of what she now looked like.

Her voice came out of the deformed snout, still the same but so much quieter. Only a whisper. "I can't cry anymore..."

Alec didn't know how to respond to that, going silent again. He sat down in the spot he'd shuffled over to, crossing his legs. The point of her statement was lost to him. Was it important to her, the ability to cry? Why it would, was even more confusing.

"Thas ekay." He tentatively responded, choosing his words as best he could. This was finality for her, the end of the road. This thing she'd become was going to be her shell forever and if she didn't deal with that, then she'd never be able to accept herself. Alec sighed at his loss of words. He was truly horrible at this.

"is no' realleh what ye can't do anehmore Amaya..." His voice was pleading. She had to believe him, even if he couldn't put it into words.

Amaya just put her hands over her eyes, now positioned on the sides of her head. How did they expect her to live like this? Or would they come for her after awhile and finish her off to create room for more subjects?

As far as she knew, she was the only one so far to reach the end. "I'm scared..." She admitted, her soft voice shaking.

Alec shrugged his shoulders, empathising. From the way he freaked out after his first change, he'd be near-histerical if he was in her position. "'Course ye are." He offered, his voice lowering its volume subconsciously in response to her quiet tone. "Is onleh 'uman t'be. Righ'?" The punk teen paused to see if she'd agree before he realized what he'd just said. "See? 'uman. Ye still 'uman insi'. No'un c'n take tha' away from ye."
