Why am I the only person on the planet watching The United States of Tara.

Did you read my mix tape list? That's my reason.

I read everything you write. It made me feel a little bad for loving the show, and then I remembered that there are so many other reasons than her DID to love the show and that her DID is very serious and mostly handled as srs bsns and not opportunities for comedy. Ironically, your mixtape is why I think you should give it a look. If Paranoia Agent can make you create an exception to your rule but that's just me.

Ultimately, I just don't think I'd enjoy it. I'm already in dire need of backlogging Fringe, which I have to psych myself up to watch as it has yet to strike my interest - BUT I promised, so I'll watch it. It'll just be a while...

I don't have The Cable, so I can't watch season 2 just yet, but I watched the entire first season of Tara. In one day.

Why am I the only person on the planet watching The United States of Tara.

Because if I committed myself to watching all the TV shows that I feel like I should, my social life would dissolve into nothingness.

Anyone else watching The Pacific on HBO? It's very good but I'm not sure it's as good as Band of Brothers.

Lee and I are watching it. It is a hell of a lot more interesting then BoB was to me; but we'll see. If they continue to not mention native populations I will be writing some fracking letters.

Templesmith posted a good review of the series (which I actually haven't seen) that compares it to Band of Brothers.

You can read it here.

Unfortunately, the article says this one's based primarily upon the memoirs of two marines and the story of a third marine. Native populations might not get much of a real mention here unless there was direct interaction between the two parties.

I did something similar. whee My strategy with TV these days is to acquire it illegally as it goes and then buy it when the DVDs ship to my store. Sadly the copy of Tara I bought was the only one that we were shipped so I have not been able to turn customers onto it. Season 2 so far is really intense and even more awesome than season 1, although Marsh is really the stand out character so far. Seeing him navigate the politics of the school gay scene and explore his own identity has been great.

Personally, I don't think it is asking too much for a 10 episode miniseries that is trying to be as accurate as possible to mention "Hey, the Gwale were there fighting and dying as well on Guadalcanal" at some point - memoirs or not. They gotta show natives when they get to Okinawa, that is impossible to avoid. Although, now that I think about it, they probably are not going to differentiate between Japanese and Ryukyuan.

I was hoping this could be one of the few films to tell at least a little "unknown history" and native views to a large viewing public. It isn't fair! crying scream
