This really only applies to the male bases; sometimes those eyes just don't sit well with it, in my opinion...
I've seen one avi too many in the arenas that are supposed to give off a manly vibe... but with those exact eyes thrown in there, it just seems to throw it off completely... not to mention all the cosplays of "manly" characters like Cloud and with those eyes it just goes half past wrong... (granted the manliness factor of Cloud Strife period is a case of Your Mileage May Very but...)
If ye wish to use it, by all means I've no problem with that whatsoever.
