*Synge was shocked to see the cut on Hikaru's head and she quickly became more concerned. His smile was fake and he was obviously not in the best of ways right now. She crossed her arms and looked stern.*
What happened to you Hikaru? You look terrible! Did you fall or something? That isn't like you. You're not clumsy at all. Did someone attack you?
*She reached out to touch his wound, to see if it was hurting still. She glanced at the cut she had given him and looked away quickly. She still felt a bit bad about that one.*

*Hikaru was not surprised that Synge saw right through him, she had a way of doing that, unless it came to serious matters of the heart. He was perfectly aware that she still was incapable of knowing his true feelings, but he was ok to keep it that way since she clearly did not return his feelings. When she said he looked horrible he winced.*
Hey, that's a little rough, even from you.
*When she reached forward to touch him he became nervous and pushed her hand away quickly. He couldn't take her touching him, it would be too much for him right now.*

*Synge shook her head.*
No, it isn't rough, it is just true.
*She stopped as he pushed her hand away. She scrunched her eyebrows together in confusion.*
What's wrong? You're being weird...and you didn't answer my question. What happened to you?
*She sat down next to him at the bar and waited for a real answer this time.*

*Hikaru sighed as he saw that Synge was determined to hear him talk about what was wrong. He looked at her a moment, lingering on her eye patch in a sorrowful way.*
You are what happened to me Synge...and me. Me happened, heh. That sounds dumb I know, but I mean it. Really, I've done nothing but bad since coming here, and everyone knows it. Well...maybe not Clever, but she is new, and she'll come to learn soon enough. Then everyone will hate me, and rightly so.
*He stopped, realizing he was rambling. But he also stopped because he felt something wet upon his cheeks. He was crying again.*

*Clever sat outside for most of the day and kind of thought to herself, finally she came back in and sat on the end of the staircase to remove her shoes.*

*Synge listened to Hikaru, and with his first words he caused her to look away. She felt bad, because now she knew. She knew that her inability to love him was causing him pain. When she saw his tears she winced. Seeing someone cry always got to her, she had a hard time not crying herself. She listened to him continue on about the bad things he had done. She shook her head and looked at him again.*
Don't talk like that Hikaru. You've done nothing wrong, not to me at least. I-I should have realized what you felt about me...then you wouldn't have had to be so open suddenly. I'm sorry for that. I was blind, heh, well I'm a bit blind really, but you know what I mean.
*She smiled, trying to liven things up a bit.*
And besides, the girls here love you, what are you talking about?

*Hikaru didn't notice Clever come in, he was too invested in Synge. He smiled sadly at her joke, but mostly he thought of how she had finally figured out that he loved her. He didn't know how she found out finally, but he was glad in a way. He had nothing more to confess to her then.*
Yes, you are a bit blind, with that eye, but not with your heart. You are a wonderful person Synge. Ben is lucky, which I think he knows...But you are wrong, they don't love me. Sure, Keira likes me, but I'm just going to hurt her. She'll realize that I'm just a jerk and move on to a sweet guy. As for Clever, she'll learn about all the things I've done with Keira and avoid me as well. Maybe I should leave this place...I'm only causing troubles for you Synge.
((Aw, I won't be in Friday or this weekend.))

*Synge turned as she heard Clever coming inside. She smiled but then quickly turned back to Hikaru as she heard him bringing up Clever's name. She was worried he might say something he regretted, as he didn't seem to notice Clever's entrance. She sighed as he finished talking, all he was going to say was said.*
Hikaru...I'm not a wonderful person, you know that better than anyone...and stop being so hard on yourself. If you leave, I'll never forgive you. I need you here, because of the simply fact that you really know my pain. And anyway, I'm sure Clever can make her own mind up about you, right Clever?
*She turned to Clever and smiled.*

*Hikaru nodded at Synge's attempt to cheer him up. It wasn't really working for him, at least not until she said that she needed him there. He perked up a bit and looked at her. He wasn't sure if this was really true, but the fact that she said it was enough to make him smile. He was about to thank her when she brought up Clever. He was confused and turned to where Synge was smiling and he saw Clever. His eyes widened a bit, feeling embarrassed, wondering how much she heard, then he remembered how bad he looked, the tears that were staining his cheeks. He quickly tried to wipe them away.*
H-hey Clever! Didn't see you there...

*Clever didn't mean to eavesdrop but she did and she wasn't really surprized about what he said with Keira, she didn't want he to leave though. And felt as if she should say something, but it would be rude to interrupt. As Hikaru spoke to her she looked up with a small smile*

*It seemed from Clever's reaction that she really hadn't heard much of their conversation. She thought this was probably a good thing for Hikaru. His concern showed that he was really starting to care for people, other than her of course. She felt strange admitting that fact now, but it was the truth. She looked at Hikaru and finally understood so many things about him that she had been puzzled about in the past. She understood his facade now, and felt a bit responsible for its creation, although she knew it was bigger than that. She thought he wouldn't want Clever to hear what she was about to say so she got close enough to whisper in his ear.*
I don't know how far you've gone with Keira...but that doesn't make you a terrible person if your heart ends up in the right place. I know how you have been letting her sleep in your room, and that is a very sweet thing that I know you aren't doing just for some action...
*She pulled away and spoke aloud now.*
I know about your dreams, remember? Just like you know about mine. That's what makes you my best friend, you know?
*She smiled sincerely. She was finally able to see Hikaru as a best friend. Of course, Ben was also her best friend, but being her lover as well gave him a whole different status all together.*

Hikaru smiled a bit tiredly as Clever said hello. He continued to try and wipe away what was left of his tears and again pulled his hair over the cut on his forehead. He wasn't aware of the leaves and twigs that were all over his back so he left them where they were. He tired to brighten up a bit for Clever. He wasn't sure how much she heard, but he thought that he was in the clear when she didn't bring it up.*
Doing alright tonight?
*He waited for her response when Synge leaned over and whispered in his ear. At first he stiffened up, he would never get used to her being this close again, or so he thought. He used to be so free with her, but now he felt like he was in another man's territory. He eased up a little as she spoke, he was grateful for what she was doing. When she pulled away and spoke out loud he smiled genuinely.*
Ah, finally accepting that I am your best friend? About time! Only took you...your whole life! Heh, well, anyway, thanks.
