He was so predictable that it ceased to be funny as it usually could be. Not that she should expect him to be doing anything anyway. He was trying to understand and at the same time he wasn't. But he wasn't taking up his usual commander role and giving firm 'this is what is going to happen' ways. If she wanted to be brutally honest with him, she could tell him that she didn't even have a home. She was a constant guest in the home of someone who didn't even want her there. "Freedom is subjective, Sir. She's never really going to have freedom because she'd always going to be bound by a stigma. They're always going to know she's a Rider dragon, won't they? I know you're not going to leave her out here, you're going to take her back to Ilindal. You're going to tell everyone about her." And if they didn't know before, one look between her and Sky and then everyone would know. "Everyone can make logical connections. Who's honestly ever treated a Rider dragon as an equal?" Shaking her head lightly. Why were they having this conversation...she could cry by herself and didn't need him as audience. Back to old tactics then, "Sir please...there are more important things to be doing than having this conversation..." Her emotional health hardly mattered as long as she could do her job, right? That's what the proper officer response would be right? His training would say so...then again she didn't know how Lycear had trained in son in the ways of maintaining the effectivness of his Guardians...but she was banking on luck.

Secrets Secrets and More Secrets. It wanted to say such things but knew to be quiet. Now was not the time to be revealing things that only older dragons and elves remembered but never talked about themselves. Either they swore themselves in oath to secrecy because it would be best for those involved or they simply forgot with time. Sylin remembered vividly and was even now replaying information. Hm...if Kaznec could not break the appretence strategist of her thoughts, Sylin was just going to have to tell both of them the truth. As humans said though...the path to hell was paved with good intentions. It applied in a sense here.

"Obviously, Kanzec, she fear being lost to what she is, rather than who she is. that the dictation of 'Rider Dragon' will affect the way people percieve her, adn thus examine her talents. a known sailor, for example. his word is taken as more valuable than a novice sailor, wether or not the experienced one is correct."

stepping around the corner.

"she worries her newly found status, will effect the perception of those around her, and thus effect thier treatment, and she's perceiving all the hard work she's done will be wiped away. all her earned respect, gone. her value diminished by her nature."

a slight smirk.

"that about right? either or....Kanzec, I need you, by yourself, in my cabin. and that means those little orb things stay out of it as well."

"My concern is with Bell. he knows things he shouldn't, indeed. he wanted to 'touch' those of us he found in the women's bath house. but Bell has recently been marked...and Kanzec...he has no idea how to control or even connect with the emotional states that brings. While I don't think for second he'd hurt the kid, I wouldn't be surprised if he did jump his case, so to speak, if Kanzec caught him doing something like playing peeping tom."

That was downright frustrating. "Well, it might help if she wasn't callin' him Sir and he wasn't letting her. That's just plain silly when they're as close as they are and she's only doin' it 'cause she wants to keep him at a distance which makes no sense!" She knew Sylin was there and keeping quiet as well as hidden but her senses picked up when Hunter decided to barge in. "And what's he doing?!" A meeting without them? He didn't even know they were here now and Lynnie was not going to like this. Not one little bit. "You're not going to be a butthead about this, are you?"

She just laughed. "That's my Valor, alright. He's a little cocky for his own good but he means no harm. The girls have always been open with him and he thinks that's the way all women are. Can't be helped, really." Listening to her sister for a moment and thinking it over. "If she's been marked then he'll recognize it instinctively and stay away from her. And if not, it might do the boy some good to learn how it works outside of the brothel. I've threatened to shake him by his horns once or twice but I've never had the heart to do it. Besides, you'll be shipping out soon and there won't be anymore worries."

"You are not the same as Sky. You were never in those cages and you were never ridden on... You grew up in Ilindal; you work there, the people there know you as Jae. Just Jae. Not Jae, the would-be Rider dragon." Or however she was rationalizing it out in her mind. She had never been a true Rider dragon, he still stood by his convictions. She had hatched in the orphanage and that's where he had met her. She wasn't like Sky. A glance up though at Hunter's voice and he tensed somewhat in muted irritation. This was precisely why they were down here, to avoid scrutinizing eyes and judgmental tones. Ignoring the pirate for the moment then, he turned his attention back to Jae. They were not done with this. Again, priorities. "Even if I took Sky back and told everyone about her past and people made connections between the two of you, how would that matter? Your skills are known and you have years of experience to back you up as a Guardian as well. Evaluation has always been objective. That won't change." A pause though as he connected a few things. "You're worried about Koto."

"Yes, she's an enabler but he does nothing to refute it either. So they're at an impasse." Xeke was also not pleased at Hunter's sudden appearance but a glimmer of amusement crept into his voice. "If by 'butthead' you mean doing exactly what the pirate doesn't want, then yes, I am being one. He obviously has no idea how things work. Kaznec can't control my actions. Are you coming or going to report back?"

She startled lightly at the sound of Deacon’s voice…and she was rather horrified that he had been listening in on their conversation and overall situation she was having. It did not help that he was more or less right…didn’t mean that she wanted to hear it or that he set it in perfectly logical terms for Kaznec to understand in completeness. Which meant anything she had been trying to keep from him was chucked out the proverbial window as well. And he had the audacity to smirk about such things like he was a godsend to the situation. If she hadn’t felt bad before she was feeling worse now. And in the same breath he asked for Kaznec in all complete casual manner. "Captain Deacon...please this is a private matter. Your intentions are well but..." But he made things far too clear. "I'll get off your ship if that's what you want from me because I'm distracting..." Appeasement route once more.

Kaznec's voice forced her attention back to him."But I still am in part one. No matter how you want to say it isn't true. Rider dragons are picked out because they do indeed look a different way and they act a different way." And by all rights of nature, they were the 'weaker' of the dragon divisions. "And not everyone is comfortable with them close. A Rider dragon around means the potential for Riders to follow." Blinking as he then made another good point and she averted her eyes some. In part that was true too...Koto treated her bad enough as it was. Was that because he already knew, or he just didn't like her. And would it get worse if such things were known and public as well. "Those things are all well and good for what I do...but I don't want to be measured in others eyes just by what I can do." Like he often looked at her too. "And he'd never stand to let me do anything if I am. And I am Commander...even Eilynne said so." And well...he really never argued on the information of Laerethe...how could one really?

Okay, this was enough. Sylin was going to have to go ask for a route of action on this one. Either it, or someone else whom knew all the details was going to let things out and set things straight. Just had to find out how the was to be done. Thusly a flutter of light and blinking from existance in that space to appera in another between unever horns. Another flutter of light to get attention.

Hunter's eyes narrowed only slightly.

"Nothing stays hidden on a ship for long, Bell. most the crew knew about this about thirty minutes after that dark skinned elf 'adopted' the blue. and it has nothing to do with distraction. I simply need to have a discussion with Kanzec that precludes the present private conversation from being private due to the nature of it. I couldn't help but overhear on my way down. I'm fine with you on my ship."

giving another look to Kanzec.

"And you have a choice to make, and soon, dragon lord. which is why we need to talk, without those little pesky balls that seem to have this highly annoying habit of getting little people involved that involve themselves far to much in affairs they need not be in, especially when they aren't doing much for the affair they are here for in the first place. So meet me topside when your through."

So he went topside, watching for the little ship, obviously seeing better days, to start getting ready for sail. she wasn't much, but she'd do with the crew she had. wouldn't take much to bait these particular sand goers.

"So your not worried that he might stow away on the Chimera or the Gale Claw? if he does, he won't be back anytime soon. we're moving fast and hard for what we're after, covering the sands as quickly as we can. you know the distance that the Chimera or the Claw can travel in a even a day is probably more then his wings could if he had a change of heart."

"It's just stupid and they're being big dummy heads!" Bouncing agitatedly and then making a sound that sounded suspiciously like sticking her tongue out and blowing. "He thinks everything is pesky and of course I'm coming. Why wouldn't I? Think I'm gonna let you have all the fun? No way!"

"Nope. He knows better and he's old enough to make his own decisions by now. Besides, there's too much here that he enjoys. He won't leave what he knows so well for what he doesn't know at all. I know my Valor better than that."

Hunter's ability to 'overhear things' was far too handy. Once again, Kaz had nearly forgotten that they were in the midst of pirates and so nothing was truly safe, information and otherwise. He hated this, hated constantly having to be on the lookout even though that was more or less how he lived in Ilindal. This was different; this was unknown territory and like that encounter with Fang, he couldn't effectively predict anything anymore. Golden eyes watched the captain until he left and then he turned back to Jae once again, listening and watching her quietly as silence reigned. He was very slowly getting frustrated and he had no idea why... It didn't make sense. He didn't understand all this ambiguous self-defining stuff she was talking about and now she was getting ahead of herself, possibly insinuating things too. She was different and thus, shouldn't be interacting with the rest of them because she was afraid of how people might discriminate her. But people knew her! Most of them have known her as long as he had and if his opinions didn't change, why would their's? Koto was another matter but he didn't want to argue with her anymore. She shouldn't be thinking that way but what could he say to convince her otherwise? One issue did need to be addressed though, because her insinuations were unsettling him. "You're not leaving, are you?"

His silence was clearly understood by her and she didn't really know how to feel about it. She could be happy since he wasn't going to talk about it anymore...but at the same time, when no one got what you were talking about in a way it was just as disheartening. It was easy to see in his eyes that he was getting frustrated and that he really didn't understand...she supposed it was something one could only experience personally and maybe she was indeed overreacting, but what else as she to think? Opinions based on logic and such weren't going to cut it for her. Logic could say she wasn't, but personal opinion was what mattered because some people turned a blind eye to logic. Watching him and his silent dismissal of her and her words, she shook her head lightly. "Not unless you tell me to..."

He titled his head back the locket that now rested around his neck shifting lightly as he had done so. “I sent you to stay there and keep an eye on him right now. Why are you back? I didn’t call you.”

“Decision of Best Action was made. Forgive.” Fluttering down so he didn’t have to tilt his head back like that and Sylin superficially rested on one propped knee. “Strategist Apprentice knows Herself now.”

Lycear had always been able to know what Sylin was talking about, despite the odd way it phrased things sometimes. “I figured she might…does she know the details?”

“Details such as Name, Why, How…all she knows Not of. Only what Her looks Point her Out to Be.” Fluttering a few shades. “Should Truth be Told…or Kept Silent.”

Ah so that’s why it was here. If he had to guess…Jaebelltiah had probably turned to Kaznec first upon knowing such things. Not that she would probably get a lot out of him but she would do it all the same. He wouldn’t have the answers because the young dragon didn’t know either despite the age difference between the two young ones. Things were kept quiet for a reason. “Monitor it more…if it seems she’s not going to recover in a sense…tell her. Tell Kaznec as well…he should know such things that deal with Riders. Sometimes the truth is indeed freeing for some of us.”

So obviously Xeke had been wrong about something. Holding her hadn't really helped and he knew if he was to voice his inner thoughts and rationalizations, the discussion would never end and he might end up upsetting her more or just confusing himself further. Silence was the solution sometimes, that much he had learned. Releasing his hold around her then, he stepped back to reasonable distance and met her gaze. "I don't want you to leave." Simple as that and there was no redundant logic in it, was there? But being him, he felt the need to back opinions up with facts as always. "Even with the change, it will be more dangerous for you elsewhere than if you just stayed with the familiar. Things change all the time, people will understand."

Apparently the loosing of his arms meant she could go if she wanted to now, seeing as he wasn't trying to keep her in one place anymore. Add another tally under the liabilty factor list then. "Yes sir..." It was all she had left to say on the matter honestly...what more was there? Those were the facts...and they should be all that mattered. Thusly moving off to sit herself down on a random barrel to stay put and behave seeing as everyone else had important things to do and there was merely no room for her wallowing at all. Hopefully they would leave soon...the sooner they got going, the sooner this would all be over.

And poof, it was back. Not that anyone but other Seons would know, but it was. Merely observing again for the time being, seeing what they were all up to now. Seemed the conversation was over at this point, though from the looks of it all...nothing was resolved. Sylin glowed a brighter shade of red in it's irritation it was capable of knowing. All of this was bringing stress to Lycear as well and that was not something it liked at all.
PostPosted: Thu Mar 27, 2008 9:29 pm

Silently watching as she moved away from him and settled herself, he nodded. If she had nothing more to say then that meant she understood and he wouldn't wake up tomorrow morning to find her gone and not coming back. Not a pleasant thought at all. If anything, she should be resting now. She said she was tired, and he had a meeting to get to. Irritating Hunter... But heading topside, he found the captain and moved to stand before him. "Alright. You had a decision you needed my input on?"

Xeke could feel Sylin's presence disappear and then reappear a few moments later. He didn't question it though, Sylin was here on Lycear's command anyways and so, the glowing red ball probably had to report back like Areesa so often did. Speaking of the other Seon... He floated lazily up through the planks of wood with her, decision made.

"You have a choice to make. do come to my cabin and make sure those things don't interfere."

before walking with Kanzec to his cabin, and opening a cabinet and pulling out some maps and some rum and brandy with glasses.

"How much is your life worth, Kanzec? how much would you be willing to give and do for the greater good and protection of others?"

unfolding the maps on his desk.

"I can arrange for a meeting with Jones, with or without you. if you come, you can try and barter your own deal, but I want somethign from you in exchange for a token of mine. you agree as part of your deal to settle my debt, and I'll arrange for your cities protection."

outlining an area.

"this is where we are. int eh beds..just beyond them, actually. but not out of Fang's territory yet. all of this north, belongs to Fang and the Riders. this map.." opening up a second, "..is from last year. as you might notice, thier land hold has almost doubled."

looking over at him.

"The Riders are becoming an Empire. one not seen since long before our lifetimes. and their reach is stretching. Bell's nature is revealed. they'll come for her, and others like her. the little atolls like the one were at now will be first."

A slight moment to watch Kanzec.

"there are three powers in the Sands. your city, the Riders, and the Pirate Lords. but the pirate's can't hold back the Riders on our own, and even if the dragons fight...we're still outmatched. but with the Burning Prince...there's a strong chance. she's not of this world, and she can do things that are hard to counter."

looking over at Kanzec.

"So here's my offer. you settle my debt, and if you can or want, get the Prince to side with us. if you do that, I will get the Pirate Lords to ally with your city. we'll even help rebuild and refortify it. Think about it. you do me this deal, adn I get you a treaty with the Pirates. no more worries about your trading vessels, no worries about sieges to the little atolls in your territory. One front against the Riders, in exchange for a little sacrifice from you. not to mention, Bell's extended safety."

a slight stretch and pouring a glass of rum for himself...burbon for the dragon.

"Her nature was known to all of us but her. and I'm sure to the rider's once they saw here. she'll be a much bigger target once that mark thing you did wears off. you were her protection then. but without it. she is perfect material. easily camoflagued, already bred for the saddle. all they'd have to do is break her spirit and her mind. which is a lot easier than most think. all it takes is pressure, and time. and with their experience, I bet it doesn't take a whole lot of time."

smiling ever so lightly.

"You vaunt your logic above all else, so apply it. you're a lone dragon. Desdemona may throw a blow or two for you. but that's it. and still, it's two against the Riders. they nearly brought down your precious Larethae. I bet they'd have a much easier time with you."

"That depends. the right lure and you can get people, even dragons to do things some would never think of. like a white dragoness or a female captain that's a bit flirty with things she finds 'precious'. I don't doubt that right now he's completely convinced he could get a free feel off Gem if he wanted to."
PostPosted: Sat Mar 29, 2008 9:25 am

The Seons were naturally undetectable and they were indeed listening to every bit of that conversation, having one of their own on the side, on a different frequency that only other Seon's could hear, of course. "What exactly is Kaznec s'posed to be asking for? Fang to leave us alone? He's a bigger butthead than you and just doesn't listen." She made a snorting sound when Hunter claimed that the Riders had beaten the Laerethe. Oh, if only he knew what was truly in the works, he'd be singing a vastly different tune. "He's tryin' to use Kazzy, isn't he?"

"And he might take it and learn a thing or two. I left it all up to the girls to decide what they wanted to encourage and what they didn't. Most of them choose to discourage his touching and brush him off kindly but firmly. It's no different from the older men who often think that the presence of a female form gives them license to touch, grab, pinch, and leer. He has to learn, it's as simple as that. Regardless, he's not brave enough to venture out with you. Sometimes, he's quite scared of his own shadow you know."

And there it was. Right by his knees in all it's shining and smooth glory, twitching with slight agitation of course but plump and absolutely beautiful, even upset. Watching it sway in a gentle, hypnotizing motion, he considered his options. Hidden behind the very barrel she was now sitting on as he could just see the indent where her curving tail met her body, he was inches away from the greatest experience of his entire life. Reaching out trembling fingers, he hesitated a moment and then boldly stroked, feeling the warmth of scale-coated skin and sighing happily as his hand traveled up, up, up. Oh by the Riders themselves! It was better than the girls claimed! And now his hands were actually beneath a woman's clothes! Joy to the Sands!

She wished she could walk away like he could do without another thought to it? But she couldn't...he may be able to soothe himself and attempt to hers with logic...but logic didn't work when you just wanted to lean against someone and let them hold you up as you broke down. She wouldn't hid herself to think his actions were actually trying to do that...it wasn't him. Kaznec only touched to keep someone where they were or to fix something from injury to ill-fitted armor. Her tail twisted in s-curves back and forth as only sign of her agitation and other emotions that were being held in.

Bell shifted lightly as the warm sensation that passed up scales even as they moved over the muscles beneath with it's motions. Didn't occur to her that it may be someone else until her wrap tugged lightly...and little fingers were far too close to rather sensitive areas on a dragon-folk's body before she gave a squeak of sorts and hopped off the barrel, turning around quickly with eyes slightly widened and pupils still slitted. "What are you doing here?!" More importantly, what did he think he was doing? Tail was not happy with the new knowledge seeing as it wrapped itself around her ankle.
