Jett smiled lightly when he saw Falkner recall his Spearow; it was down to his last Pokemon, wasn't it?

"You've done great, Athena," he said to his fatigued Hoothoot in a gentle tone. He called out for a dodge, but a heavy gust of wind wasn't something a Hoothoot could easily hop away from. The Owl Pokemon sunk further into the floor, wincing some. "Come back." Jett recalled Athena, figuring it might as well be his strongest Pokemon against Falkner's. "Thanks again!" He returned the Pokeball to his belt and retrieved another, eager to see what would happen now.

"River, let's do this," Jett called as he tossed the Pokeball into the air. The Kirlia emerged, dancing and flipping gracefully onto the suspended wooden field gouged with various claw marks from various Pokemon. River looked back to Jett and almost smiled; the battle had taken a turn for the worst for Falkner when Jett's partner in crime was out.

"Hit 'im with Confusion!" Jett aimed a single finger at the offending Pidgeotto, and River concentrated a telekinetic blast of energy and unleashed it. The blast aimed right for the bird, hopefully setting off a good start for their battle.

Amy was checking over her Pokedex to check if her Pokemon had gained any levels (much to her surprise, Marshall was now able to participate in the contest and she brightened considerably) when the scores were announced. She looked up, frowning some because it had seemed like her appeal gained the least amount of points.

"At least I moved on," she whispered to herself, still gazing intently at the screen to see who she was battling next. She had gotten a boy named Jerome, who made a decent appeal with a Bug-type she hadn't really seen before. He looked to her and offered a smile that seemed like it was supposed to put her on edge, but all Amy did was smile back kindly.

After the battles set before them had passed, it was their turn. Jerome swiftly passed her, whispering a "Good luck," and disappearing behind the curtain. After a moment's hesitation, the Maple girl followed suit, adjusting her glasses some.

The crowd gave them a hearty round of applause; it seems the Kanto residents had taken a particular liking to Jerome because he had such an exotic-looking Pokemon, and Amy's simple performance was mildly forgettable.

"Let's show them what we're made of!" Jerome cried to his Pokemon as he flung the Pokeball dramatically into the air. A Cacturne emerged, crouching and slowly rising up to glower at Amy and intimidate whatever Pokemon she brought out. Amy's steeled herself and tossed her Pokeball forward, refusing to submit to such tactics.

"Get them, Marshall!" Amy called as the Wooper came out, happily cheering back to the crowd as they applauded the coordinators' choices in Pokemon. Jerome and his Cacturne exchanged a glance and nodded as the easily excitable Water/Ground-type grinned and bounced around. Amy paled.

Somehow, she already knew how this battle would turn out, and the only words she could sum it up with were not well.

"That was such a rush," Riza whispered to Yula as the two of them reentered the waiting room, barely able to hear anything but the pounding of their own hearts in their chests. At first she didn't even notice Crenu and Froslass approach her, but when she registered that he was there, she giggled and threw her arms around his neck, planting several kisses on his cheek. "You think so?" she beamed, barely able to contain herself. "It was all Yula out there though. If she hadn't evolved and learned Psychic, I don't think we would have done nearly as well." At her side, Yula simply continued to smile and gave a graceful curtsy. Riza could feel the psychic-type's positive energy, it practically radiated from her, and she felt herself growing more confident as well. "You and Froslass were great, too," she added after a moment or two, offering a smile to the ice and ghost-type. "Using the hail was a great way to show off the ghostly aspects of her."

She'd been about to say something else when a murmur passed through the other coordinators in the room. All eyes were glued on the screen in the middle of the room, and Riza turned to look as well, her heart pounding in anticipation. 'We were good enough to at least move on, right?' she thought to herself. Yula, sensing her trainer's worry, gave the girl a nudge and a smile, and Riza calmed herself with a few deep breaths. When Lilian announced the coordinators that were moving on, she could hardly believe it. She and Ryka were in the top spot! The raven haired girl smiled over at the blonde girl and her newly evolved Delcatty, knowing they'd definitely earned it. Her attention went back to the screen when they listed the match ups. Apparently, in the second round she would be facing a rather handsome coordinator named David. The trainer in question had easily singled the monochrome-dressed girl out among the others. Riza remembered his appeal well, as his appealing Pokemon had been an adorable Ponyta that had showed off its grace and agility and skill with fire all in the same instance. She felt a slight pang shoot through her at the thought of this, knowing that the Pokemon she'd picked for battling wouldn't fare well against a fire-type.

There wasn't much time to dwell on it, however, as the battles would be commencing almost right away. Riza was a bit surprised to see that Crenu would be facing Ryka in this round, but she knew they'd both put on a great show. When it was time for her battle with David to begin, Riza strode out onto the stage, much like she had when it had been time for her appeal. The crowd seemed to be very into this contest, and she smiled brightly and waved to them, noticing that her opponent was doing pretty much the same thing. The two coordinators met at center stage and exchanged a handshake before retreating to opposite ends. Both had their poke balls at the ready as Lilian gave them the signal to start, and in a flash, both trainers had sent out their Pokemon. David's was an energetic looking Wartortle that withdrew into his shell in mid air and spiraled gracefully to the ground before popping out again, and Riza's was her ever-eager Sneasel, Akima. Akima had simply somersaulted while exiting her ball and landed quite elegantly on the ground, her eyes fixed on her opponent. Both coordinators smiled once again, knowing that this was bound to be a good match.

Katie had to strain her ears to hear the gorgeous woman's command, and her eyes widened a bit when she realized what it had been. 'That Misdreavus knows Psychic?' she thought in a panic, but she knew that there was virtually nothing Genki could do to protect himself. "Genki, try to-" she called out anyway, but it was much too late as Siren's Psychic aura had snatched him in mid jump as he'd tried to make a break for it, wreaking havoc on both his mind and body. The Monferno screeched in pain, struggling with all his might to break free of the Misdreavus' psychic hold, but to no avail. He blacked out before the attack was even over, falling to the ground with a soft thud when it finally was.

"Oh, my poor Genki," Katie cried, running to her Pokemon's side. Other than the fact that he'd been knocked out, he seemed to be fine. She cradled him in her arms for a moment and kissed the top of his head before she put him back into his poke ball, and put it onto her belt before looking up at the woman again. "Uh, okay, wow, didn't expect that," she said, getting to her feet and crossing her arms over her chest. She realized then that this had been her first real loss, and it stung a little. "So what are you? Like, a traveling trainer or something that started their journey a little late? Or do you just like to trounce kids in battle?" she asked, her voice a little bitter.

Amy gazed at her opponents, studying them and deducing that, probably from it's green color, the scarecrow-looking thing before her was a Grass-type. But the intimidating aura it held, the intensity of its glare, seemed to remind her of a Dark-type, which she faintly remembered reading about years ago. So she seemed to stick with Grass-type and promptly realized what trouble they were in.

But there was no time to dwell on that because as soon as Amy realized her mistake in picking Marshall, the battle was to begin. Jerome commanded Cacturne to charge forward at Marshall, who now happily smiled toward the new duo.

"Woop! Woopah!" Marshall cheered as he leapt over the swipe of the prickly arm, beaming right into those yellow eyes.

"Marshall, try Slam!" Amy called, remembering that with his recent level-up, he had acquired a new move. Everything now was a risk; trying out new moves in battle would be tricky but Amy hopefully pulled it off with enough confidence to make it seem like they had practiced before.

Lo and behold, Marshall took it all in stride. He flipped in mid-air, dangerously close to Cacturne's face, and rammed his considerably small body right into the Scarecrow Pokemon's skull. Cacturne faltered, tripping forward as Marshall skittered down its back and whooped behind it.

Maybe there's hope after all, Amy thought as she watched Jerome's points decrease.

Mag smiled as he watched the coordinators from the backstage area. Although it would have been nice to be out in the crowd, it was pretty cool hanging out in the back with all the coordinators.

First up was that annoying Crenu fellow. His choice was a Pokemon Mag had never seen and seemed to be a ghost and ice type. Although the ghost Pokemon was rather cute, the performance made her seem quite creepy as if she were the soul of a girl that had been lost in a snowstorm. Despite Crenu’s attitude, Mag had to give him props for his performance on the stage.

As the camera scanned the audience for reactions to the performance the orange haired boy noticed two familiar faces. ’Looks like Claire and Rajasi made it after all. I’ll have to talk to them when the contest is over and see how they managed to get tickets,’ Mag thought to himself. Next up was Amy, the nice girl Mag happened to bump into earlier in the day. Although the danger of poisoning the audience with her performance did cross his mind, the intrepid Bayleef kept everything under control and put on a nice show creating interesting patters of smoke through her Razor Leaf.

After a few other trainers, the spotlight finally came to Ryka. At first, her performance seemed quite ordinary. Her small, cat-like Pokemon doing a wonderful job jugging. ’That can’t be it, you won’t make it with tough competition like Crenu!’ Mag thought to himself as the Skitty continued. But much to his surprise, Ryka tossed in a small rock into the mix, probably a moon stone, and the cat suddenly began to evolve! Flabbergasted, Mag cheered quite loudly as did much of the audience. Mag quickly waited near the entrance.

“Way to go Ryka! That was incredible,” He said offering her a high-five. “Of course it’ll only work once, but I can’t think of anything that would be more spectacular for your first contest.”

After their conversation had ended the last person was up and it was the nice raven haired girl from before: Riza. Sending out a powerful looking Gardevoir, she took command of the stage. Her twirling vortex and then suddenly stationary command of swift made for a performance rivaling even Ryka’s. Although Mag was about to go congratulate her, it seemed that Crenu was already on the subject so he decided to keep with Ryka. Glancing around, Mag didn't see Amy anywhere, much to his disappointment, as it seemed like would be the type of person that would benefit from some encouragement before going to the next round.

With Riza's performance over, the judges took a small intermission to determine the results. After the tense break had finally ended, Mag was happy to find all four of the people he knew in the next round. At hearing the match ups, however, he was a little bit disheartened.

“Looks like you’re up against Crenu. A friend of mine ran into him earlier today and he wasn't the most cordial. He seemed like the type of fellow that wouldn’t give up easily no matter the odds.” He said to Ryka. “But with your skill I think you can give him a run for his money, good luck!” the orange haired man added with a smile as his friend made her way to the stage for the battle round.

***

Long story shot, the tournament in which Claire and Rajasi found themselves in was quite disappointing. Although there was no official rule about it, apparently all the participants in the ‘Buxamillion Contest Cup’ had been fishermen. With Magikarp. All of them. So the duo made quick work of the poor land locked fish and swept their way to two tickets in a relatively shot amount of time.

After rushing to the Pokemon Center and the Ludicolo Lotus Café and not finding Moti, the two left for the contest arriving in their seats just as it started. Better to enjoy it themselves than to miss out for the sake of finding their screwball boss, right? Giving the usual ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’ the two were quite enjoying the experience and one would hardly realize all the turmoil the pair had been involved in over the past week by their normal demeanor.

Upon seeing that the Monferno had been downed, Siren gave a slight nod of respect in her fallen opponent's direction before floating quietly back over to Mai's side. Mai thanked the Ghost-type and promptly recalled her into her Pokeball, walking slowly across the flame-scorched battlefield to where Katie had been tending to her fallen Monferno. Mai simply scoffed at the petty accusation, flipping her hair back over her shoulder as she looked down at the younger, smaller female. "If I remember correctly, it was you that issued the challenge, not me," she said simply. "And no, I'm not on a Pokemon Journey, as you call it. My business is my own, and none of yours. I do, however, enjoy partaking in Pokemon battles, and if you can't accept losing, than you will not get very far as a trainer."

She paused to let her words sink in as she continued to study the young girl, suddenly realizing that if she could befriend a resident of Sinnoh, there was a good chance she'd be able to learn more about this strange, cold region. Mai offered a (very rarely seen) kind smile, and nodded towards the ginger-haired girl. "By the way, the name's Mai. Wanna get some ice cream or something?"

Jake couldn't help but sigh with relief at the sight of Roark calling back his fainted, yet very stubborn Shieldon, and he'd been secretly hoping that the gym leader would send out one of those Geodude things next when the strange, bipedal Pokemon materialized on the rocky gym floor. That's another one of those fossil Pokemon, Cranidos, the blonde haired boy thought as he watched the little dinosaur summon up another vicious Sandstorm, and he adjusted his goggles and tried to focus.

Very suddenly a flash of light seemed to blind Jake, and he blinked a few times, suddenly very confused as to why the scenery had changed. He was no longer in the rock-strewn gym of Oreburgh, but some place... else. Everything was shiny and gold here, and as he looked on, a tiny little dragon with a mullet was charging at a silver-coloured magnet. The dragon launched itself at the magnet, the sound of their bodies clashing sounding like metal striking metal.

Bibarel, meanwhile, had hunkered down and was preparing to fight this funny-looking Pokemon with the big head, but in her experience traits like those were usually a pretty big giveaway into what their battle tactics were like. She gnashed her teeth together, eager for her next command, but it didn't come. Confused, the Beaver Pokemon turned to look at her trainer, a bit shocked to find that he was staring off into space, like he wasn't even in the room anymore. Bibarel growled at him, but it didn't seem to phase him, and for the first time since she'd met this weird human, she found herself to be feeling quite worried about him.

It was safe to say that Kirlia wasn't a species Falkner saw often in his gym, but the fact that more and more trainers from other regions were trekking to Johto to win badges meant that he was seeing a lot of Pokemon that were not native to the Johto Region. The Kirlia looked like it would be light on its feet and quite agile, so immediately Falkner knew this would be an interesting match. Jett was apparently eager to continue and quickly ordered a Confusion. Falkner looked to the Pidgeotto and slightly inclined his head. The Bird Pokemon responded almost instantly, drawing its wings in close to its body as it raced toward the oncoming blast of psychic energy, a a telltale streak of white light trailing behind it. Hoping to use the Confusion as a means to obscure its Quick Attack, the Pidgeotto swerved and arched around it at the the last possible second before turning its keen sights on the Kirlia.

"Thanks for bandaging me up." Robin ventured hoping that she could talk now.

Tony sighed and looked down at his student. He didn't realize how worried about the airheaded redhead until now. Of course he didn't feel bad for making her work so hard, it was better that she learned these things in a controlled environment instead of out in the open. At least here Tony Tony got to take into account how hurt the dumb girl got. There was just something about her that made him feel attached to her almost. "No problem girly. Now go change out of your outfit and into some clean clothes. Meet Ampersand and me at my shop when you are done all right?"

Nodding with a silly grin on her face Robin watched as Ampersand forced his tired body to follow that of his former Master. When they were out of sight she glanced down at her team and smiled at them. "You all did a great job out there. Did I tell you that all ready?" She wasn't quite sure but she did want to make sure they knew she thought they were awesome. Her whole team, minus Ace who was still snoozing near the starting line, just grinned and pilled on her again in another hug. "Ahaha! Hey guys settle down all right." She wasn't to mad as she pushed them down again and grinned at them. "All right, lets go get Ace and then clean ourselves up."

With that goal in mind she picked herself up and headed over to where Ace was sleeping her friends bounding around besides her. "Hey there sleepy head." Robin greeted as she scooped up the tired playful pokemon. Grunting somewhat at his weight, she didn't really want to make him walk when he was so tired he was still sleeping. "All right guys make a quick stop at the pokemon center before we head to the shop all right."

~~~~~~~
Roark himself wasn't quite sure what was going on, it was hard to see through the sandstorm but he was pretty sure Jake was just spacing out over there. Well, unlike some trainers he took advantage of situations like this. Besides trainers, especially young ones needed to know that you had to be alert at all times in a battle. "Cranidos use Headbutt." Roark called out loud enough to be heard over the rushing winds.
Snorting slightly Cranidos grinned, it wasn't often that a pokemon was so unprepared and distracted that he got to get hits like this off. The headbutt pokemon charged forward his sharp claws digging into the earth as charged forward.
As we can all probably imagine, there were fewer things Sasha enjoy more than shopping. Even less surprising was how much her current company was adding to the situation. So much so, that she actually focused more on Kasiya then actually shopping. Arm in arm, Sasha watched as Kasiya furrowed her adorable brow and expertly browsed for TMs. Elle est sur une mission! she thought with a coy, almost mischievous grin. When Kasiya left to go check out, she left Sasha to her own devices as to what TMs or items, if any, she'd like to pick up. After a bit of pondering and looking at her Pokedex, she felt her team was well rounded enough to take on what was again. I mean, with so many people, how bad could it be?
Pleased at her wish to go shopping with Kasiya had been at least partially fulfilled, Sasha skipped merrily to the door where her lovely blonde friend awaited.
"My Pokemon?" Mike repeated, taken aback by such a simple question. "Uh, actually. Actually, my Pokemon are doing great! All things considered, they're doing fantastic." Mike dug through his war-torn bag and pulled out his 'new' Pokedex and flipped it open. "To my surprise, Magneton had a new form they discovered in Sinnoh, and Blaine was nice enough to bring Proton there when he went on a business trip and evolve him for me." He flipped the Pokedex around to show Flannery the image of a Magnezone. "He doesn't move around as much, but I can't wait to see the kind of punch he packs now. Oh yeah, and I spent some time training with Blaine. He gave me this Pokedex." He scrolled down the list and brought up the entry on Magmortar. "And guess who else evolved?" Mike said with a wide grin and a low chuckle. "Look at it, they're pretty much on fire the entire time! How great is that!? OH! And another thing!" he practically screamed. "Look what I got when I was in Mt. Chimney!" Hoisting a pokeball above his head like some sort of holy relic of old, he pushed the button, releasing a somewhat out-of-it Torkoal.
Mike sat down and hugged the dopey looking Pokemon around the neck. "Isn't Vesuvius just adorable? He's so warm and sturdy looking, and his shell looks like a little tuya. Now we both have one!" The boy rubbed his cheek against the tortoise's face, who, while confused, wasn't about to complain about the sudden burst of attention.
"Tor!" it yawned. Mike continued to snuggle up against his new Pokemon when he heard the doors behind him open. Out from them walked Kasiya and Sasha, walking very close together. Mike couldn't help but be intrigued at their sudden 'closeness'.
"Salut!" Sasha said with a curt wave.
"Hey Sasha. Hey Kass." replied Mike, speaking out of the free side of his mouth. "Oh, Sasha! Could you do me a favor?" Mike rose to his feet and rummaged through his bag yet again. "Since I can't go in the store for obvious reasons, do you think you could pick me up a couple TMs with this money?"
"Sure. What ones?" Sasha said, unlinking her arm with Kasiya's.
"Let's see. I want...four Solarbeams." He held out a pile of money and two colored discs. "With this money and selling these two TMs-"
"Four? Isn't z'hat a bit much?" she asked, accepting the money and discs.
"No." Mike said succinctly. "I need them to round out my teams massive weakness to water." he lied. "If my math is correct, you should have enough with those. If I remember correctly they are $3000 a pop."
"Z'hey are actually four s'housand each." the pink haired girl said, biting her bottom lip.
"Aw, what? s**t! That-" Mike was about to fly into an angry rant when he felt a soft, delicate finger press against his lips for the briefest of moments.
"Pas de problème, mon petit héros." she said with a wink. "If I recall correctly, z'here once was a boy who bought me three very expensive and powerful TMs out of the goodness of his own heart."
"Well, actually, you did give me an Earth-" Mike objected.
"Shhhh~" With items in hand, Sasha whirled around and walked into the store and returned shortly thereafter with three shining, green discs.
"You are wonderful." Mike said in thanks as he took the discs and began applying them to all of his Fire Pokemon.
"Je sais." Sasha said with a smirk.
"Alright!" Mike said as he stood up and brushed the dirt off his knees. "Almost everyone is here. Just one more person and we're good to go."
"And who might z'hat be?" Sasha inquired.
"Me." said a voice from behind.
Jett grinned, wondering how entertaining the air acrobatics were to their humble audience, consisting of several bird-keepers and Scarlet. He supposed the trainers in the gym were far used to it, but he hoped he'd impress Scarlet and Falkner with the battle.
"Seems like they're coming right for you," Jett commented to River, only to retrieve the Psychic's eyes rolling as a response. The Kirlia's thin legs bent slightly, otherwise unnoticeable from the original position, and pushed off the ground when Pidgeotto came in for the attack.
River flipped once before rapidly descending and gaining sufficient enough momentum to do some serious damage. The Emotion Pokemon came back to the Pidgeotto, attempting to bring a leg upon the bird's skull in a mean kick.
It would be an interesting battle indeed.
Crenu expected a bit of happiness from Riza after her appeal, but he hadn't expected her to suddenly throw her arms around him and plant all those kissed on his face. Surprised as he was though Crenu found that he had an inexplicable smile on his face from it, and though he was able to catch it early and put it away he wasn't able to completely eradicate it. There wasn't much time to celebrate though as Riza was the last coordinator to go up, and it didn't take long for the judges to tally up the scores. Crenu joined the rest of the coordinators in watching the big screen for their final scores and to see who was going on to the next round. There had been some pretty good appeals out there, and Crenu would have been a lot more confident about continuing on had Froslass not given into nerves at the start of their appeal. Still he had a pretty good idea of who would be appearing on the board, and for the most part he was right. Riza and Ryka came in on top which wasn't surprising considering their efforts on stage. A few other trainers he didn't know made it through with solid appeals, as did that Bayleaf girl and himself. Crenu nodded in approval, not a bat lineup of competitors to go up against. The entire contest would be a waste of time if he wasn't going up against worthy adversaries. His eyes sticking to the screen he watched as the remaining contestants were paired up for the next round, and when he saw his masked face up on the screen it appeared next to Ryka. Eying the young girl for a moment he could see she was talking with that Mag guy from earlier, some odds. Crenu watched as everyone went off to prepare for their battles and did the same, sitting in a corner quietly and running simulation after simulation in his mind of possibilities he could come up against. Of course he had no way of knowing what Ryka's pokemon choice would be, whether or not she would use her appeal pokemon again or a new one or even her general strategy so Crenu had to come up with strategies against all possible types and type combinations that he knew of and how best to deal with each one. A few back up strategies of course but spreading his tactics so wide was both mentally exhausting and not all that productive. His opponents appeal round didn't reveal much either unfortunately, juggling seemed like a simple enough move to work off of but throwing in the Moon Stone to evolve her pokemon was one hell of a curve ball. Truth be told Ryka could prove to be a very troublesome obstacle to overcome if she had anymore surprises like that. The thought of it only made him grin though, this could turn out to be fun. Eventually it was their turn to get back up on in front of the crowd for their battle and Crenu silently made his way on stage, getting into position and awaiting Ryka. When she joined him up on stage he tossed his pokeball out onto the battle stage and Poliwhirl took form, looking determined to put the hurt on someone as he laughed wildly. He had almost a sinister look in his eyes as he looked at the crowd, the complete opposite of Froslass he seemed to gain courage and momentum from the hundreds of eyes and cheers. They were all going to bare witness to his mighty superiority and they would enjoy it! Poliwhirl did his usual handstand as he jeered his opponent and continued to giggle unable to wait much longer. As Poliwhirl clowned around Crenu simply stood there watching, still a little unsure if letting Poliowhirl run wild on stage like this was a good idea. Oh well, it was too late now. "Don't fail me Poliwhirl, you know what awaits you if you don't control yourself." He said simply.
Houndour the dark pokemon. It is smart enough to hunt in packs. It uses a variety of cries for communicating with others. My pokedex reads as the dog rises back to it's stance.
Houndours master calls on his ability to stand strong even when all seems to be lost. He gives his houndour a mighty war cry. This would be nice if the master did not look like a demonic circus ring leader. I mean the hat is a no, no matter how insane you are.
"Hey psycho, we have a fight going on here. How about you let your puppy do his job and lose!" I say as I unintentionally insulted his houndour. It seems a bit natural for me with certain insults. That is a good thing, hah!
Houndour growls and jumps at Zii. Zii stands tall and strong. He smirks as the houndour looks like he's about to bite. But, as Zii bends down to jump out of the way a large flamethrower comes shooting from houndour's mouth!
I have to wince because the flames are so strong and hot. I guess this circus reject is a demon, to be able to throw such a powerful flamethrower. I lost track of where Zii was. I only know he was not hit. I know this due to the smell of a burning stone smell. I would smell burning fur if that was the case.
The houndour's master looks around, and so does the houndour. I look around and I smile as I realized what Zii did. He is a genius in his own way.
----------------------------------------------------
So, now I have a Trapinch. I let him out and bend down to get a good look at this laid back fella. His head shows signs of curiosity, but also shows a lack of motivation. I smile and recall him into the ball. But, as soon as I do so a short voice shouts from behind me. I'm aware voices can not be short. But, if I could give it a description that's what I would use. This girl was about four feet tall. She has blond curls with a purple highlight at the tips. She'd be cute, if it wasn't for me knowing her.
"What is it Deedee?" I ask, not really caring. She has always had a crush on me since I entered the academy. She believes I have some feelings toward her, or a string of fate. I do not fit into any of her categories of personal attachment. But, she feels like it's destiny to be with me. I worry about this one; Not for her health, but the motivation she has to get me.
"I saw you got your first pokemon! I also got one too! How about a challenge! It's said if a trainer challenges you you have to take on that challenge! So challenge me!" Deedee says while jumping around my still moving self.
"Deedee, can there be anymore exclamation points in that sentence you just said? Whatever you do to keep that much energy inside yourself, you really need to stop. Challenge challenge challenge, sure lets go for it." I say as I flip Trapinch's ball out of my pocket.
Trapinch plops onto the ground not expecting to be summoned from his ball so soon. I guess he's used to laying low all his life. "Well Trapinch, you're up. You disappoint me you don't get healed for the entire day. Trust me, that hurts in the long run."
Deedee jumps up and down shaking her head at my way of training, "Distance! You can not treat your pokemon so bad! You have to be nice to them! Flutterby come out!" She says while releasing a caterpie from her ball.
"Flutterby? I'm assuming you're waiting for it to become a butterfree? You...never mind you won't even understand the words. Let's get this battle going.....oh no..." I remarked right when a few of my 'fans' come around the next street over. The girls see me battling Deedee and they run over as my cheer squad. I don't like Deedee, but she doesn't deserve this much hate.
"Ladies, you have to calm your tongues. We are in an official battle. Please, for me?" I said while showing a bit of interest in one of their bodies. Yes, I can be a flirt when I want to be.
Go Distance Go! Yay! ....sigh.
"Flutterby, tackle!" She screams. "Trapinch, bite that caterpie."
The caterpie jumps to it and begins it's crawl toward trapinch. Trapinch's head goes up into the clouds as if telling me something. My eyes narrow not in anger, but what is he trying to tell me. He gets slammed directly right in the side. Deedee jumps up and down happy, and her caterpie reveals it's version of a victory smile. But, Trapinch remains standing. He only moved a few feet, and he did not fall.
"Trapinch, what are you trying to say?" I ask as he is nailed once more on his side. He actually looks hurt by that one and he looks at me as if angry. "Trapinch... you..." I was about to say, but he growled at me when I said Trapinch. I got it, he does not like his name. I could only think of one name at the moment.
"Mach-Ni! Bite!"
As Deedee's caterpie comes in for another tackle trapinch smiles and bites caterpie on it's face and spins the worm around releasing it toward Deedee. Mach-Ni actually lets loose a laugh of insult. Interesting, a pokemon that does not like it's name so much it would take hits until someone named him. I'll learn everything about this trapinch. Until then, it's time to beat Deedee.
Throughout the battle that had just finished unfolding, Scarlet and Cindy’d been quietly observing, and both were pretty impressed at the Sparrow’s defeat at the hands of Athena. Hypnosis had sealed the deal, and it was a technique Cindy took note of. Next up was Pidgeotto, who was powerful enough to take out half of the tag team that brought the Volcano Pokemon to her knees, and it did it with one gust.
“Wow. Looks like he’s gonna use- Yep.”
In a flash of light, Jett’s Kirlia, River, was released, and somehow, Cindy’s focus increased even more. River was strong, and although she was the third strongest pokemon she’d ever met, Cindy tended not to count the first two, what with one spawning a lake on all of them. So, River was one of her two self appointed rivals, and although they were friends, the Quilava really wanted to beat her one day.
Scarlet wasn’t much different. Jett was a powerful trainer, and this opportunity to watch gave him insight into both his traveling partner’s and the gym leader’s battle styles. And for now, one thing was clear. This was a battle of acrobatic feats that none of Scarlet’s pokemon, Cindy included, would be able to pull off easily. Still, he hoped the best for Jett. A Zephyr badge was the mark of a trainer’s progress through the world, and Scarlet thought that his buddy deserved it.
He supposed it would all be decided in this battle.
As they strolled further toward Viridian, both Alex and Roll were preoccupied with their own goals. Alex’s head was stuck in her pokedex, where she was researching her pokemon’s strength and weaknesses. And she almost had a panic attack right then and there. It was all she could do not to start hyperventilating. What if a leaf falls on her head…? Or she steps into a puddle… It-It can’t be that bad. It’s not even remotely possible. … But what if it is?
While Alex was busy figuring out when she could get an umbrella for the rain and a certain legendary rainbow phoenix to utterly ruin any horrible grass types who would hurt her Roll, the little Larvitar was busy enjoying the sweet smell of grass, the excited battle cries of starting trainers, the trees covering the sides of the path… For her, it was an awesome day. She could even see an amazing lizard with a fire tail off in the distance, like a smaller version of one of those dragons that used to walk into Sabrina’s gym.
“… Maybe if I caught a bunch of caterpie and made an offering in Bell Tower… Birds eat worms, right…? … But I could never win… Then again, I’m trying to call out Arceus…”
While Alex was so deep in thought about how she’d be luring in her precious grass smiting rainbow bird, Roll wandered further down the route, searching out one of those funny kids in funny hats with the squishy looking pokemon, so she could squish them.
Jasper didn't waste any time in getting himself to Cherrygrove City, and he was a bit surprised to discover that there wasn't much to the place. It was quaint, and quiet, but definitely too quaint and quiet for his tastes. Jasper quickly sought out the Pokemon Center and had both Paras and Ditto healed, even though neither of them were really all that hurt or tired. He figured it was best to keep them both at top condition, Paras especially, if he wanted to help the little mushroom gain some confidence in himself. He thanked the cute, pink-haired nurse and headed back outside, quickly hopping on his bike and heading out of the small town, not at all saddened to leave it behind him. Route 39 wasn't much more interesting, as it was covered in trees and grass and winding paths. Jasper thought he heard the voices of some trainers milling about, but after the fiasco with the bug catcher beforehand, he wasn't so eager to jump into another battle.
The youth carefully steered his bike down the ledges, nearly crashing on the first few attempts until he got the hang of it. He also learned rather quickly that remaining seated on the bike for the duration of the jumps was a bad idea, though he was glad that no one had been around to see it. He passed by what he thought must have been the halfway mark of the route, smiling to himself as he realized he was making very good time. He still wasn't sure what he was going to say to Professor Elm when he got there, but like always, he was sure he'd think of something. Jasper pressed onward, smirking a bit as he startled a flock of Pidgey from a nearby patch of grass. He also caught sight of a couple of Rattata scurrying across the path, and he chuckled to himself, thinking of all the young trainers he'd seen toting nothing but Pidgey and Rattata with them. He felt a slight sense of pride at having not captured one of the more common species that newbie trainers had a tendency to go after, though it faded relatively quickly as he realized that most of those tiny birds and rats could probably lay the smack down on his poor, timid little Paras' head. 'Ah, whatever,' the teen thought irritably, forcing the thought from his mind. Paras would come around eventually, especially once he realized how much of a table-turner his various powder and spore attacks would be. 'Who wants a stupid Rattata anyway?'
* * * * * * * * * *
"Oh, Cynder, look there!" Hayley shouted, pointing excitedly at a small, purple rodent that had just so happened to wander across the daring duo's path at that very moment. "It's a Rattata! Oh, look at her, with her itty-bitty whiskers and her curly tail and her adorable ears! She's so cute! Let's catch her!" the brunette practically squealed, still pointing a trembling finger at the now-wide-eyed Mouse Pokemon. The Charmander stationed vigilantly at her side, however, was very much unimpressed by his trainer's statement, and in fact was currently staring up at the girl like she had lost her mind. They'd seen literally hundreds of the annoying little nibblers over the past few months, and not once had Hayley ever shown interest in even battling them, let alone capturing them. His easily-excitable trainer had simply plopped down on the ground, whipped out her stupid book and made sketch after sketch of the boring little things while he sat idly by, using all his willpower not to set the grass ablaze. Cynder grit his teeth and folded his arms over his chest before shaking his head quite fiercely, decidedly against the prospect of capturing the useless, purple rodent. Hayley's elated expression fell, and she pouted at the orange lizard. "What? Why not?" she asked, looking back and forth between the Charmander and the Rattata, which was still sitting in the middle of the path, unsure of what the crazy human girl and partially-on-fire lizard were doing.
Cynder gave her his very best 'don't be stupid' look and started heading down the path, being very sure to give a harsh glare to the Rattata in question. The Mouse Pokemon, not at all off-put by the Charmander's actions, simply sneered in return, though she looked up as Hayley sulkily followed after her Pokemon. "Sorry 'bout that," the girl whispered, taking a chocolate chip cookie from the side pouch of her bag and handing it to the little mouse. "He's a little grumpy." She smiled, patted the wide-eyed rodent on the head and continued walking, wondering if any Pokemon would ever be considered 'good enough' by the Charmander's standards to join their little team. The Rattata, on the other hand, devoured the cookie in two or three large bites. Since she was fairly used to living on seeds and scraps and whatever little bits of food she was able to steal from traveling trainers, that cookie happened to be the best thing she'd ever eaten, and without hesitation the mouse Pokemon trotted along behind them, albeit at a relatively safe pace as not to arouse the grumpy Charmander's suspicion.
I really hope Petalburg city does not charge Zii and I with damage to their roads. Circus man and his dog continue to look around until he grows a mischievous smile.
"Your pokemon has left the battle! You lose girly!"
I sigh and clench my fists. I really want to punch this man right through his skull to smash his brains all over the concrete!
"You are an idiot you muck for brains! Stop trying to win like an ekans and realize that you can train your pokemon to use tactics even though you do not command it! Zii is going to win in exactly two seconds!"
As I said this a crack reveals itself in the concrete. When did Zii learn dig? I don't think this is dig. It's just Zii being creative. Pokemon Gods I love Ziii so much! He makes fighting so easy sometimes. The crack gets bigger and houndour finally realizes what is going on. He jumps back a few feet. His master looks to the concrete then at where the flames were spread on the ground.
"I see lil missy! You're zangoose went and used the heat from the flamethrower to break a hole into the road! Such a smart pokemon in the hands of someone so dense."
I've had it with these insults. I growl and spread curses all over the man's insults. I get an idea, a good one! Using the tactic I usually do I run straight for the circus man. This should distract the dog into blocking my attack to his trainer. I jump high up for a kick to the circus man's face. The dog does exactly as I thought. He jumps right in front of me and lets loose a terrifying growl. Even if this was a distraction that growl made me shiver. It's not everyday a trainer is struck with a pokemon's attack. But, in my life I try to endure human and pokemon attacks equally. It gives me an understanding of what Zii goes through, and maybe Ecko when I decide to use him.
Zii does something from underneath the road and I feel a tremble in the cement. The cracks begin to spread throughout the fighting area in a massive spider web like design. I jump back suddenly to find the road collapse! I laugh because it looks like the houndour is eaten by the road.
So, Flutterby survived Mach-Ni's bite. Even though Deedee is a ditz in class she got a talented and endurable pokemon. Mach-Ni, unlike Flutterby, seems a bit off in this battle. I named him and he still seems like he's looking at the clouds in the sky. Perhaps he's dreaming of a time when he can fly? He does evolve into a flying dragon type. Well, that's my first goal with Mach-Ni.
"Mach-Ni, bite Flutterby!" I say as Deedee begins swooning over me using her Pokemon's name. I can't understand girls sometimes. They're priorities a bit mixed up.
Yay! Go Distance Go! We Love You! Mach-Ni Go! Beat Up That Heifer!
I really do not understand girl's and that competitive spirit they have with other girls. Mach-Ni doesn't budge from his spot as I find him actually looking at a leaf floating in the wind. My eye twitches as my mind is going on overdrive. This is too many analytical observations for my single brain to overcome. But, let's see if I can.
"Go Flutterby, shake off that bite attack! Mach-Ni is sleeping, hit him hard!" Deedee screams while doing a cute jump. She does have a charm to her.
Flutterby speeds up as a cloud of sand follows it. I notice in the corner of my eye that Mach-Ni is now looking at Flutterby, but acting like he's looking at the leaves. I got it!
"Mach-Ni, counter attack with a bite!" I say as I understand what type of pokemon Mach-Ni is. That was the problem, I did not understand his fighting techniques. He's a counter type!
Mach-Ni closes his eyes and right when the worm type pokemon is within a foot of him he spins around and bites the worm's tail. Again he spins the worm around and flings it to the side. Flutterby rolls toward Deedee and she catches it with care. It's amazing how different trainers are. She would actually dive to save her pokemon from further dangers.
"You did well Flutterby, but Mach-Ni uses a counter attack we can not beat just yet. I'll give you another fight with Mach-Ni in the future. I love you Flutterby!" Deedee says before sending Flutterby back into his ball.
Mach-Ni celebrates for a moment with a cute spin and dance. The fan base I have seem to sway back and forth with him as he dances. I really don't understand girls.
Train wrung her hands nervously, eyes glued to the ground in front of her, terrified of what she might see if she lifted them. "I don't think any of my Pokmon know that move…" She said quietly, reaching for her PokéDex, just in case. She stopped and jumped a bit as Maz neared her and sniffed her hair. She whirled around to face him, half-glaring, half simply staring at him, unsure how to react to his action.
"Wh-what the hell was that?" She demanded, backing up closer to Carlos, suddenly feeling much more comfortable near the guitar-playing trainer than the hopeless "romantic" (that term used very, very loosely) who'd actually saved her.
Leon didn't particularly mind that Muuma's attack had been blocked, as she hadn't been hit with anything, either, making that last round kind of a neutral one. "Use Astonish, Muuma," He commanded her, crossing his arms and shifting his weight a bit. Standing here was getting a little boring, he had to admit, but at least Muuma was on track to win.
The ghost suddenly let out a loud shout, transparent shock waves coming from her body and rushing towards the gym leader's Nosepass.
