Miharu was still fighting off her embarrassment when she heard Sam land behind her, and she turned around to see that her friend had landed awkwardly. "Oh, your knee," she said quietly, though Sam appeared to brush it off, and seemed more annoyed that she'd tripped herself up than anything else. "I'm fine, don't worry about me, but I guess we should be more careful the rest of the way." She glanced down ruefully at her dress once more before she continued walking, deciding then and there that she'd had enough of of this dress-wearing business. Dresses aren't proper travel attire anyway, the young girl thought as she daintily hopped down from the next ledge, this time doing so without incident. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a Sentret poking its head out of the tall grass to check its surroundings, though when it saw the two girls it froze, ears twitching slightly before it ducked back down again and disappeared from sight. At least most of the Pokemon in this area are relatively timid, and rarely attack for no reason, she thought again. At this rate it wouldn't take them long to get to New Bark Town.

Thanks to the shortcut cutting down a lot of the route, it really didn't take long for Miharu and Sam to reach the small town. Other than sightings of the ever-common Pidgey and Rattata, and occasional Sentret, they managed to arrive without incident. The largest building in town was easily Professor Elm's Lab, which was visible almost as soon as they entered town. New Bark Town was so small that it didn't even have its own Pokemon Center, or even a Pokemon Mart. Local trainers either had to bring their Pokemon to the Center in Cherrygrove, or rely on the healing machine that had recently been installed at Professor Elm's. Miharu sighed, already a little bored with the small town, and turned to Sam. "Well, we're here," she said with a light shrug. "There's a body of water in the east; I'm pretty sure that you can fish up Chinchou there."

It took a little longer than Falkner would have liked for his Spearow to recover from his last attack, and thus was unable to avoid a few of the curious rings that the Hoothoot had send towards him. Luckily, the small bird was able to shake off being put to sleep completely, though a cloud of drowsiness hung over him, and he longed for a nice rest inside his PokeBall. His master wasn't about to allow this, however, as even though this Spearow was younger and newer to his team, he wouldn't let it to go down with a fight, nor did he plan to let this challenger walk out of his gym without working his a** off for it.

"Shake it off and use Aerial Ace," Falkner commanded, his tone rising slightly. The sleepy Spearow blinked a few times and gave a caw, signaling that he wasn't about to give in yet. The small bird rose from the ground and took to the skies, focusing its beady little eyes on the annoying owl as he prepared to strike again.

I dislike how my father charged me for the Technical Machine. Both of my parents told me way ahead of time they would train Zii to learn a new technique. They did not say it was a TM. I guess this was to teach me about teaching my own pokemon how to fight. I don't know.

"Zii are you ready for this? It's a sunny day, and we have all day to learn this technique."

Zii nods his head in agreement and grows that smile of pride. He's about to learn a technique that can defeat a rock type pokemon. Zii has always had problems with rock types since I found him; never to the extent of the battle in North Petalburg city.

"Okay, Zii, feel the warmth of the sun. Feel the heat it produces."

Zii blinks and looks at Laichi confused. He raises his head to look at the sun; He winces.

"Zii close your eyes and just relax."

Zii does. He closes his eyes and breaths. A smile grows across his face. I think he understands.

"Okay, it says here the sunlight is making a part of you warm, or hot depending on how much sun has been absorbed. Do you feel this?" I say as Zii nods in response.

This is an odd technique. After reading all the details previously to this training, I would never have thought Zii could do it. It's amazing what pokemon are capable of. This makes me wonder why pokemon have not taken over the world. Do they just not know they can, or do they just not want to?

"Zii, point to where the heat is building up." I say. Zii points to his throat and mouth. Interesting considering what type of attack it is.

"Now force all that heat to the hottest part, which in your case should be your mouth since you talk a lot of grime while we practice!"

Zii grins and remains quiet. He does as I said though. I can only imagine what horrors he's imagining; they probably involve me being the loser of all his races and challenges toward him.

Suddenly to my surprise Zii's eyes shoot open. He opens his mouth and an enormous stream of light shoots from his mouth! A local, and unlucky tree falls down as Zii has blown the trunk up!

The TM blinks, "Your pokemon has just learned Solarbeam. Thank you. If you'd like to purchase more Technical Machines please hurry to your local pokemart. This is a one time use TM, thank you for using me."

Zii and I remain quiet and look at each other in amazement. After a moment of silence we both scream and attack each other in excitement!

Jett seemed slightly pleased; Spearow definitely got hit, but he seemed to be resisting to an annoying degree. But it gave them an edge, no matter how slight. Athena also seemed pleased with her work, and then they listened to Falkner's command.

Jett merely nodded to Athena, who hooted in response as the Tiny Bird Pokemon charged toward her. She took the hit, of course, since it would've hit anyways. But without running away or resisting, Athena had another advantage of preparing her counterattack, and after the Spearow struck, she relied on the drowsiness and the waiting for commands to slow the bird down while she fired another Hypnosis at it.

"Good work," Jett whispered, hoping the rings hit the Pokemon so he could feel like he was making some progress in moving forward. If anything, it could slow Spearow down even more, and he could work with that. And in the back of his mind, he yearned to get an Electric-type and train it as much as possible.

Amy's nervousness increased with each performance, especially Ryka's. She envied the girl's creativity and opportunity to evolve her Pokemon for such an occassion; it was an opportunity definitely not wasted. And Ryka's was fabulous, and the girl realized just how outclassed she was. All of the other coordinators undoubtedly had stronger Pokemon (she just barely had the required levels) and if she made it to the next round, she would be trounced.

Maybe I shouldn't have gone in so soon... she thought, digging her fingernails slightly into her palm. I don't have the experience or the strength or anything... I can barely battle as it is... Her breath hitched as she remained in the silence, in the solitude of her own person. And then the trembling stopped, her breathing became even, and she knew nothing would be the same.

Amy carefully brought herself to stand in the coordinator lobby, offering Riza a brilliant smile when she came in, but decided not to talk to her since she would be talking with her other friend. She gazed at the screen, waiting for the scores to be announced, and suddenly ready to move forward in every sense possible.

Peine wandered route 36 briefly before quickly exiting. In Peine’s opinion, it was a very boring place, only a couple trainers and a bit of grass. Nidorans and Growlithes could be seen scurrying around in the grass, though those Pokemon didn’t quite tickle Peine’s fancy. He also just caught another Pokemon, and going on a catching spree was not on the boy’s to do list. He turned to his left, and remembered that Sel was still in her pokeball, something that seemed to be very uncommon on this trip. ‘She needs rest, and I don’t think Scyther would behave as well outside the pokeball yet, I just caught it. Some alone time is nice…’

After Peine’s exit of route 36, he entered the City of Violet. “So this is Violet, I can’t believe how big it is,” Peine said to himself, amazed with the size. To the teen, cities were the most amazing thing. After growing up on small islands, his island being the smallest of them all, every city looked humongous to him. ‘I wondering if there’s a map around here that I can check,’ Peine asked himself as he wandered the city.

After about five minutes of wandering, Peine made it to the Pokemon Center on the edge of the town. He walked into it and went up to the map that was next to the PC, something that he didn’t even need to touch since the amount of Pokemon that he had was very low.

“Hmm, so I have to go south from here to get to Cherrygrove City. Then east from Cherrygrove City gets me to Newbark Town!” Peine called out with joy in his voice. He looked around to see that the two people and the nurse inside the center staring at him. “…Hi there…I was just about to get going,” Peine said as he ran out of the Pokemon Center and onto route 31.

Ditto all but forgot that he was supposed to be pretending that he was meek and timid as he rushed the Metapod, slashing wildly with his front claws. Despite the toughness of the cocoon Pokemon's shell, Ditto's borrowed claws tore into his opponent rather effectively, though that might have been due to the fact that he was stronger and more willing to battle than his more timid teammate. The Metapod toppled, giving Jasper and Ditto their first victory, though Jasper felt slightly guilty to call it that. The Bug Catcher hadn't appeared to notice the switch, however, as he'd been far more interested in his Pokemon's evolution. He was still congratulating it even as it was put back into its Poke Ball. "Hey, good battle," he said, definitely not upset about the loss, though Jasper suspected that might not be the case if he knew what had really happened.

"Yeah, good battle," Jasper nodded, quickly shaking hands with the boy, and watching as the young bug catcher headed back towards Violet City. When he was out of sight, Jasper turned to face his two Pokemon, glaring specifically at Ditto, who shamefully shimmered back to his true form. He blinked up at Jasper and smiled cutely, pretending like he didn't know what was going on. Jasper sighed, and shook his head, deciding then to dismiss it. "All right, I'll let it slide this time, but don't do that again." Ditto blinked and exchanged glances with Paras, who shrugged. The little Mushroom was grateful for his teammate's help, even if his new trainer wasn't so keen on it. Jasper sighed once again and recalled Paras into his Pokeball before turning to Ditto. It occurred to him that Ditto still didn't have a PokeBall of his own, and perhaps that he should remedy that, lest something like this happen again.

Hayley continued along Route 1, talking quietly to herself as she looked over the sketches in her book. Some of them were of Pokemon she'd sketched at Professor Oak's Lab, but most of them were drawings of Cynder in various poses, most of them capturing the young Charmander doing something silly. Hayley's personal favourite at the moment was a rather amusing sketch of the fire lizard attempting to shoot a tiny house fly out of the sky with a barrage of embers, as the insect had landed on his nose and in doing so had managed to annoy him quite a bit. The energetic girl was also quite oblivious to Cynder's pouting, as her previous loss to the Pidgey didn't bother her that much. She figured it was due to her inexperience as a trainer, though battling had never been her favourite thing to do.

Cynder, on the other hand, was in a rather sour mood, kicking pebbles as he walked along, and occasionally snorting puffs of smoke. The battle had started off well enough: He'd led off with a menacing Growl that had seemed to unnerve the small bird, though instead of trying to attack him directly, the thing had whipped up vicious amounts of sand that had stung his eyes and rendered him unable to see. His retaliatory Ember had missed its mark by a considerable amount, and before he knew it he'd been slammed into a tree by the evil little bird, and even though he'd been blinded from the Sand-Attack he was seeing stars. Cynder growled lightly, and then looked up at Hayley, wishing he could just brush off the loss as easily as she had, but out of the five battles with wild Pokemon they'd had so far, he'd only been able to win just one of those matches, and just by the barest of margins. He snorted and kicked another pebble, sending it skittering down the path ahead of him. He decided right then and there that he wasn't going to let those past failures get him down, as Hayley needed him to protect her.

"Congratulations Laichi!" My mother says while Zii and I lay on our backs beside a pool of water. After Zii accomplished the solarbeam, we had fun. He also did it many times more. This technique was not a fighting type so Zii and I may not understand it completely, for now. I think we should work on timing. This move seems to take some time to activate. Would 'activate' be the proper term?

My mother walks up to me and hands me a pokeball with a bright smile on her face and an expression saying, you will take this or I will punish you; have a nice day honey.

"What is this, mom?"

She nods and answers, "It's the favor you promised your father! Aren't you a doll for agreeing to it. He caught this pokemon a while ago on one of his business trips. It gives him a pain in the butt when he releases it. Soooo, he is trusting it's training to you."

"WHAT!?" I screamed while flipping up from my sleeping position.

My mother turns and in a whisp of the wind she is already back inside. I GOT DRAFTED!

Zii points and laughs at me as I remain looking at the strange pokeball.

"Well Zii, let's see what type of pokemon is in here."

I hold the pokeball out and the pokemon is released. I'm wishing for a mankey, or maybe a tyrogue! Zii has wide eyes as he is also tranced on what it could be.

"Be a hitmonchan, or hitmonlee....please please please!"

As the pokemon appears I back up. My father got me! He wants me to train a grass type! NO!

"Treecko!" Treecko says while folding it's arms and looking Zii up and down as if he could beat up both of us.

None of their fancy flight maneuvers could have saved them from the next Hypnosis, and Falkner watched, his face expressionless, as his young Spearow succumbed to slumber before tumbling to the ground with a thud. The gym leader said nothing at first, but then he clapped his hands sharply and commanded another Aerial Ace, but the sleeping Spearow did not awaken.

Meh, it is of little consequence, Falkner thought, brushing his hair from his eyes. My next Pokemon will make quick work of the Owl, and then things will get much more interesting; I am sure of it.

Jett's eyes gleamed with the prospect of moving forward in this battle when he saw the Hypnosis attack become successful in its second try. He knew it was time to be rid of this Spearow, so hopefully he wouldn't wake up and hopefully Falkner wouldn't rely on Roost again.

"Peck," Jett called calmly, eyeing the unconscious Tiny Bird Pokemon. Athena spurred into action, charging toward the sleeping Flying-type and trying to peck it and do the most damage possible. It was anything but the time to show mercy at this point.

So, it took Zii and I a good hour to get that lizard back into it's pokeball. Treecko's are annoying little pests. It thought it was faster than us. We only allowed it to think like that. This little lizard is going to be trouble. So I decided not to use it, nor train it. Zii looked at me as if saying, train that thing or I will kick your butt on purpose just to prove you suck. So I agreed to train it.

So three days later we arrive back to North Petalburg City. The weather was nice so we ran. The races ended with me losing, losing, and tieing. I think Zii is showing why it is good being a pokemon. He seems to be getting stronger and faster. I am also getting stronger and faster, and a bit smarter, but not to pokemon standards. It makes me wonder what kind of deity would create us, then create them. Ah well, that's too philosophical for me to care about. Zii and I figured out how to defeat that onyx. The only problem is finding him. With the Pokemon Contests going on, it's hard to find good battles.

For example: I'm walking to the alley that onyx's master ran into, and I find a strange man who is holding out a pokeball to me. His grin is devilish. Are all the trainers demonic in nature? So I rub my nose, I breath in, and I run straight at the man. He dodges my jack knife kick and summons out his pokemon. A houndour barks and howls as he stops me from attacking his master.

The houndour jumps at me and without even motioning Zii jumps from his ball appearing in front of the houndour. Both of them are on all fours and both of them are in a fighting mood. That is why I attacked the master, it always ticks off the pokemon.

"Hi, I'm Laichi Ningyo. I really do not care who you are. Your dog is going down old man!" I say as I jest this trainer into getting angry at me.

The man laughs like a maniac; actually he reminds me of a circus ringer. But he commands his houndour to use smog on Zii. I know for sure Zii naturally does not like poison type attacks. He says it makes his breathing hard, and his sight cloudy. So he quickly dodges the smog attack by jumping onto a ladder on the side of the building to our right.

"Zii use slash, then use quick attack!" I screamed as Zii jumps off the rail of the staircase and slams his claws into the cement alley floor. The dog dodged! The houndour raises his head and begins to howl only to be interrupted by Zii's second attack, which I love because it always gives Zii the initiative. With a quick movement Zii slams into the side of the houndour. The houndour yelps as it hits the far wall of the building to our left.

I look at the professor with little motivation for his antics. Many of my peers explain to me that professor oak is a joker. He is one of the smartest people in Pallet town, but I feel his intellectual ways reveal an illusion which obscures the fact that he is still a child to mind.

"What is your name again?" Oak says as I hand him the generation V pokedex he just gave to me. I click a button and reveal the ownership information for the pokedex: The owner of the generation V pokedex is Distance Ambersia | Age: 15 | 1 Hour.

"Yes, I see; Distance. Well Distance you are quite late for choosing your starter pokemon. All the other student and trainers have already claimed all of my introductory level pokemon." Oak explains, but the look in his face says another story. I glance over his desk for a moment and notice a notation written on a list of pokemon. I grab the list as the professor talks with his science crew.

"Professor, it says here on this notation that you have four more pokemon that were not claimed. I know you are a busy man, and the smart need to return back to work after a few children have bugged them, so may I ask where these pokemon are?" I ask while handing him the list of defective pokemon.

Oak looks over the list and nods, "Everyone of these pokemon have some flaw. They have been declined by every trainer. Why would you be interested in them Distance?"

"Well from your teachings you mention how a strong trainer can choose any pokemon and fashion a mirage of the trainers championships within that pokemon. I do not see why a pokemon can be 'flawed' in the eyes of a wise professor, and a potential champion of a trainer." I explain to him while looking over his facial expressions and how he reacts. I want him to succumb and show me the 'flawed' pokemon.

"You do have a point. Come this way then, Distance, I will show you the rejected pokemon." Oak says while walking into a small room with four pokeballs sitting on four individual soft pillows. It appears he was doing something with the lot. I inspect each ball and notice the attributes and names dedicated to each ball on the data line: Caterpie, Trapinch, Rattata, and Whismur.

From what I've learned from the academy I know Caterpie and Rattata are throw backs. They have no tactical value; well perhaps caterpie after it has evolved a couple times. Whismur would most likely become scared with every introduction battle I throw him into, so that is a no for Whismur. Trapinch... it says he is very laid back. I di not see this as a bad thing. It just means he has a lot of energy being stored in it. Trapinch will become a dragon type later in his life also. I can use this.

"I'll take the Trapinch, professor."

The redhead had relit his smoke almost the second he'd stepped outside of the PokeMart, and a second later he'd released Helios from his PokeBall as well. The ever-loyal Ninetales looked up at his trainer with mild interest, several of his tails twitching slightly. "Got something for you, Bud," Keegan told him, and the fox's ears perked up as his trainer showed him the dark-coloured disc. "Not sure if this is the wisest of choices for you, but I think it'll compliment your Extrasensory. It's called Dark Pulse." Helios stood up and moved forward, closing his eyes as Keegan touched the disc to his head. Both the Pokemon and the TM began to glow before it appeared to be absorbed within the Ninetales' body, and Helios grinned up at Keegan before nuzzling the redhead with his nose. "You're welcome," Keegan nodded, patting the fox's head before recalling him into his ball. Out of the corner of his eye he saw Mike, Flannery and Kilik headed in his direction, so he assumed that it meant they were nearly ready to begin.

Falkner called out once again for his Spearow to wake up and attack, but it was still sleeping quite soundly, despite the fact that it had just taken a painful-looking peck to the head from the Hoothoot. Again, Falkner smiled lightly, despite the fact that his Spearow would most likely be down and out within the next round or two. He was sure his second and last Pokemon could easily bring down the Owl, but he was also quite curious to see what other Pokemon Jett had waiting in the wings.

Jett watched calmly at Athena pecked Spearow and offered his Pokemon an appreciative smile when she looked back to him. The two had established some sort of strange bond in the past three battles they had been in-- and Athena knew she should pay attention to her trainer, lest she wanted to get the air knocked out of her by that metal thing again.

"Peck again," he instructed in a measured tone, and the Owl Pokemon stirred back into action, closing the almost nonexistent distance between her and the Tiny Bird Pokemon. Now that this part of the battle seemed to be coming to an end, Jett wondered what Falkner had next. And then he allowed himself to smile, because he knew who he would send out next. He knew that he would walk away from this gym with a badge and a regained sense of pride. The thought cheered him, and he steeled himself for the rest of the match, ready to see what would happen next.

Lilian ran back out to center stage once the final appeal had been completed, once again grinning ear to ear as the spotlight focused on her. "What an amazing round of appeals!" she shouted to the audience, whom eagerly responded with a loud roar of cheers in agreement. "Every coordinator and Pokemon should be very proud of themselves, but unfortunately the highest-scoring coordinators will be moving on to round two." She paused again to let the crowd cheer and shout, finally gesturing to the large-screen monitor positioned on the wall above her head. "It seems our judges have made their choices, and your top eight coordinators are as follows! Ryka and Riza are virtually tied for top spot, followed by Karina, David, Jerome, Crenu, Hannah and Amy! Congratulations to those who moved on, and better luck next time to those who did not!" Again the emcee paused to let the crowd finish cheering, and she nodded to the board again. "Okay, let's give the board a random shuffle to see our pairings, and then round two will begin!" The eight pictures displayed on the board all seemed to meld together, shuffling around at a very rapid pace before displaying the match-ups:

Ryka vs Crenu
Riza vs David
Amy vs Jerome
Hannah vs Karina

"Looks like an interesting set of matches! Is everyone ready for Round Two? Good! Let's get busy!"

((For sake of fairness for the battles, since it's not so much about strength as it is showing off, all battling Pokemon's levels will be set to 30, though this will not change moves, evolutions, etc.

As for how these matches were determined, I literally wrote all names down on a piece of paper and drew them out of a hat. Actually, my husband drew them out of a hat. ^^

All characters, if battling one of the four NPCs named above (Karina, David, Jerome, Hannah) will use this website http://www.dragonflycave.com/spritegenerator.aspx to choose what Pokemon the NPC uses. Make sure you select 'generate three' and select one of those to battle with (not a legendary; nor do you need to pick something you have a blatant weakness against unless you intend to lose in the earlier rounds). Do not pick something you have a blatant advantage over, either. These battles will be judged based on performance (though again if you wish to lose out, you can have it end in your Pokemon being knocked out). Since we are effectively using the honor system for the NPC battles, you will automatically be disqualified if you are determined by the judges to be 'godmodding' or making the battle too one-sided in your favor. Since most appeal battles last five minutes, use your judgments to decide how long your battles will go on for. If battling another player character, traditional TTR battle rules apply, meaning you must allow your opponent to react and so forth. To save time, everyone can work on their battles whenever they want, and judging for the next round will continue once all battles are finished. If your battle seems to be lasting too long, I will step in and call time up, but I doubt this will be necessary. I hope this makes sense, and if there are any questions feel free to PM me or post them in the OOC. Have fun, and good luck! Thanks! =) ))

tl;dr: lets put it this way, if you didn't read the above instructions, consider yourself disqualified. ;D

Flannery couldn't help but smile a little as Mike caved in to her 'request', as she had pretty much always been able to convince both him and Keegan to do just about anything. Glad to see some things haven't changed, the gym leader thought to herself as she closed up the gym behind her, seeing as none of them were even in there any more. "Ooh, TMs, yeah, those are always good," she said, patting the pocket in which her keys now rested. She wanted to keep the chitchat going, but she still had a slight fear of saying the wrong thing so she chose to keep away from the subject of their previous events. "So, uh, how are your Pokemon doing?" she asked, curious to find out how Mike's lively crew was. She also wondered how they were handling everything, but she figured that regardless, the lot of them would follow him no matter what - particularly Nitro, and that odd-mushroom-samurai Portabello. All in all she liked his team, though the unpredictable Ampharos made her quite nervous. She also wondered where everyone else had gone off to, but that had been partially answered rather quickly as Kilik had joined them. "PokeMart first," she answered simply, giving a nod to the dark-haired boy. "Have some patience, Kilik." The walk to the Mart was relatively short, and Flannery figured she should stock up on some potions and other medicines, just in case. She doubted that the members of Team Magma would sit by idly as they used their Pokemon healing facilities, if they had any. As they approached the Mart, Flannery saw Keegan waiting outside, looking quite calm despite their approaching mission. She thought she'd seen him recall a Ninetales and she wondered if he'd evolved Helios since the last time they'd spoken. "Hey Keegan," she said, waving at the redhead as they passed him and headed into the mart. "Was that Helios just now?"

That Monferno is relentless, Mai thought to herself as she watched the chimp Pokemon evade Siren's Psybeam and launch himself at her like a flaming comet. He was much faster than she'd thought he'd be and the Ghost-type screeched painfully as she got a Flame Wheel to the face. She floated back, some of her wispy body appearing darker and singed - she'd been burned by the attack. Mai frowned for a second, and then sighed. It was time to end this battle, and on her terms. "Siren, Psychic attack," she said simply.

The Misdreavus gave a nod, her eyes now glowing with a bright, violet aura. Mai had only recently taught her this move, and she hadn't quite yet perfected it yet, but using the Monferno as target practice was just fine with her. The Screech Pokemon gave a loud cry as she pushed the psychic aura out toward the Fire/Fighting-type, eager to please her new master and teach the obnoxious monkey a lesson at the same time.

By this point, Falkner was more than certain that his Spearow was not going to wake up, and after watching Athena deliver another painful Peck (at least it looked painful, seeing as the sleeping Spearow didn't even so much as twitch from the strike), he decided that the Tiny Bird had suffered enough. Wordlessly Falkner recalled the severely weakened Spearow into its PokeBall, nodding appreciatively to it before slipping it into his pocket, noticing the prideful smile his challenger wore. He'd admit that the kid was good, but he wasn't about to hand over his badge that easily. "Your Hoothoot's tough," Falkner commented, always happy to see trainers with strong bird Pokemon. He reached into a second pocket, smiling lightly when his fingers closed around the PokeBall belonging to the second and last Pokemon he intended to use in this match.

"All right, it's your turn," he said simply, his arm making a slashing motion in front of him as he sent the ball spinning.
