"Well, you'll see her at dinner," Earendil smiled, relaxing again. "She's quite smart, and she's doing very well with learning new languages. She's learned two new ones on this trip already - Common Elvish, which is what they speak here, and the Ancient Tongue, which they speak on Nauros. And she's as energetic and curious as ever."

"Ah... the joys of being a stage grower," Cindy murmured with a smile, "It's good to hear she's doing well. Sounds a bit like Lin when she was little. Maybe Miyuki will like to play with Vergil."
Cindy suggested this because Vergil needed to learn to socialize a bit more. Maybe someone like Miyuki could also keep him on his toes.
"And how is Vergil doing? We saw him earlier," Lin murmured.
The little boy didn't look like he changed at all really.
"He's doing well, he hasn't changed overly that much," Cindy laughed softly.

"He hasn't grown at all," Earendil mused quietly. "How long has he been here now?"
Sure, it had taken Lin a long time to grow, but she had only been in this world every now and again, chronologically she wasn't as old as Vergil, he was sure.

"Nine years," Cindy replied softly, "Lin became an adult in less than half that time."
If one included all the time Lin had spent here, and actually in truth Cindy knew that Lin's growth time was unusually slow.
"I'm not too worried, growths are ify things and the Seconds all have never grown quite the same way."
She herself actually was not technically an adult, she knew very well she had missed a growth.

"True," Earendil nodded. "And to my knowledge, Celebor's children still haven't grown as much as they could, and they've been there what ... twenty years or more?"
A very long time, indeed.

Cindy nodded at this, "This is to be expected though I think. The Seconds had not had the population increase as they should have, and overall I don't think have had the care a budding race needed."
She glanced over at Lin to confirm this, and Lin could only nod, she had to agree. Guardians were scarce, Seconds were disappearing and the world just never did grow like it could.
"The only reason why most of us grew is because of the family, we were able to change and just thrive."
"Give it time though, I think from this point on the race will adapt, eventually I think," Cindy mused.

Earendil smiled. "I hope they will. I'm sure that Vergil is quite endearing as he is, but I'm equally sure that he wants to grow, eventually. Do things that he can't right now."
He remembered after all how frustrated Lin got sometimes, always being told to wait until she was bigger to do things.

Cindy giggled at that, "I'm sure he would love it very much if he grew. It would certainly make a few things easier."
As long as the sword didn't grow with him, otherwise Cindy wasn't sure what he was going to do about that.

"Easier?" Earendil repeated, tilting his head slightly. "How do you mean? Easier for you? Or easier for him?"
Did she mean she might somehow have an easier time dealing with him, or that he would have an easier time doing some things?

"Both," Cindy chuckled, "Vergil is handling being small very well, but there are times he holds himself back because he's aware he's not that big. It's also would be easier to convince Vergil he needs some of his lessons if he was a tad bigger."
So far all the lessons were for knowledge and didn't have much in terms of practical use for him.

"Holds himself back?"
Earendil wasn't sure he understood - but then, Amalirahc was the first person he had ever met who just plain didn't like lessons.

"You've been with Lin long enough to know how she is," Cindy pointed out.
"Hey! I'm not that bad!" Lin protested even though she didn't think she was that bad as a surprise.
It only made her sister laugh, "Well I wouldn't call it bad, I would just call it uhm... unique. You didn't spend very long small, but when you were small you did everything. You never acknowledged that you were small, young yes, but small not overly so much. You acted like a pint size big person, like me put it that way."
Of course Lin's situation was unique to say the least, but Lin had no fear. Vergil also had no fear, but he always seemed to lack that something that allowed him to take advantage of his size.
"Really, I'm doing lessons with Vergil to keep him busy. Otherwise he's going to notice more about his lack of height. He's... very single minded where Lin's mind is very... flighty. Any disappointment will only last as long as long as no one mentions anything else of interest, which isn't very long."
"Hey...."
"You know it's true," her older sister told her, "You turned beds into forts, and tubs into swimming pools. You hopped down stairs, and believed you could climb a mountain before becoming a child. You ran after a hunter, because you wanted to know what he was up to, and no lack of height was going to stop you from doing that. And if you couldn't do something you would find a way to resolve before growing yourself. Yes, you needed to grow, but you spent that time doing katas, learning magic, learning languages, running around, climbing steps, getting into things. Trying to solve mysteries, height meant nothing to you, and you know we all love you for it."

"So he doesn't go off on adventures, is that what you're saying?" Earendil mused.
Interesting. He had to admit, that was the first case he'd heard of like that. Even Cindy, as quiet a life as she lived, was living an adventure of her own - having settled in a world not her own.

"He gets frustrated easily at times because he is small..." Cindy tried to explain, "It doesn't matter if he goes on adventures or not, what matters is, does he allow himself to grow as a person despite the fact he's not growing physically."
Of course she understood Vergil had a completely different temperament compared to Lin.
"You also have to understand what our physical bodies are, does not reflect what our mental capacity is. While Vergil has gotten better, mentally he has not changed all that much since arriving to the Borderlands. I part of it, I think is because he does link his mental self to his physical self. I was a child for a long while Earendil, but mentally I still grew and was an adult long before I ever physically grew myself."

"Ah, I understand," Earendil nodded. "Yes, I see what you mean. That would be difficult ... and it could be even more difficult even if he does grow. Then his body will be ahead of his mind, instead of the other way around."
That would indeed be difficult. And it would only make things even harder for Vergil.
