Ben could see the anger, there was no way to disguise it. However, the fact that he was angry meant that Hikaru was actually listening to him, a plus in his books thus far. He took a drag in and nodded in agreement with Hikaru's first statement.

You're right Hikaru, I could never understand the way you feel for someone else. But that doesn't change that I know how you treat her and what she tells me. You still see her as the little girl you knew around the way and the one that got away...now I am your mortal enemy for making her love me. That's just the way you treat her more often. But if you trusted me you might be surprised...

When he heard you mention fighting, he shook his head sadly. He wasn't sure if this was going the way he'd hoped but there was nothing he could do.

You are still looking at it wrong...Hikaru...there is nothing to fight over....Synge either loves me or she does not. Love is that black and white...if she came to me and told me that she wanted to be with you...it would hurt like a b***h...I would probably want to give up...but I can't MAKE someone love me...it is a choice not an action. If she loved you and didn't love me, it wouldn't be fair to her heart to keep her from her love...but....

He took a long drag off his smoke.

...Synge hasn't told me anything but how much she does love me. I don't force these words....I don't manipulate her...I don't do anything...that is how she feels and she finally understands that...that means that unless she chooses to no longer love me...you can't make her love you either...

Ben simply nods in response to Hikaru's statement but as soon as he did, he could see that the reality check was no longer bouncing, it was cashing in. He felt bad for making his time worse but it needed to be said.

If that's how you feel, I appreciate that but I am not going to agree with you...as that is your opinion and should be yours. But your apology is accepted. I hope you can accept my apology if I have ever treated you wrongly. I am sorry for making your hurt as well...I wish no one ever got hurt sometimes...

He stood up and started pacing and then shook his head, offering a hand to Hikaru.

I don't think you are a bad person Hikaru...I just think you are a man with deep pain who didn't quite know what to do with it...that makes you human...not terrible. Look...I won't make her cry...heh..

He smiles and even laughs lightly.

You know...it would be easier to keep her from crying if we just got along! But don't worry...I couldn't let Synge be hurt...I would feel I failed her...that's one thing I will never to to her. But...I need to just relax for a bit...you can head out if you want....thanks for talking to me..

Ben nodded as he saw Hikaru release his hand. The look on his face was not a good one and Ben knew that this was far from over but at least he had started to work with Hikaru. When he answered the question, Ben's voice sounds more sure than you might have heard.

She does deserve it...and don't worry...I would sooner let myself die than her...she's in good hands....I promise you that... if I ever let her be harmed and could have prevented it, I expect you to beat me senseless.

He nodded and started to walk away but stopped when he heard the next statement.

Yeah? Oh...I don't...I wouldn't blame her for things anyone else does...I might not even be able to blame her for things she did...I love her no matter what...and you're welcome. See ya man!

With that, he heads up the path and around the mountain and disappeared.

*Now that Hikaru was left alone in the courtyard he was able to really let his thought overtake him. He put his head in his hands and stared at the ground. It wasn't even possible to hate Ben, he was too nice, which pissed Hikaru off even more. Synge just had to pick someone perfect to fall in love with. He really was no competition for someone like that. He wondered if Ben would ever find out about their kiss, and how he would react. His mind wandered to what Cap had called him last night. He had a little bit of knowledge about cards, and thought he had a basic idea of what being called the 8 of Hearts would mean. He stood up, remembering the library, and went to see if he could confirm his thoughts.*

*He went straight to the library, not even looking to see if anyone was around. He looked through the books and found one that seemed to be of use. He opened it up and quickly flipped through the pages until he found a picture of the 8 of Hearts, it looked just how he felt it would. He sighed as he read about the meaning of someone who fit under the title. He was him alright, a perfect match. All the bad things about him were there on a page for anyone to read. It was too much for him and he threw the book on the floor angrily. What did that Cap guy know anyway? How had barely spoken to him! Why was he spying on the him? It made his stomach feel sicker. He sat in the chair near him and tried to catch his breath. He felt hot tears forming in his eyes and he quickly brushed them away. He couldn't be inside anymore, he felt trapped. Quickly, he left the library, leaving the book on the floor where he had thrown it.*

*He went down the hall and then went outside, breathing in the fresh air. He took a few deep breaths and then walked off towards the forest. He hated being alone, but right now being around someone would just make things worse. He hated how life had forced his happy exterior to be broken down, revealing the other self inside him. His duality was being exposed and he wanted to hide it away.*

Cap bowed his head and touched the top as if to take off a hat were he to have one. He then returned to his upright position. He held a bag in hand.

Keeper, good day to you. I was en route to see you. I have some details of which to speak.

Ben was a little perplexed at the way Cap was handling himself, it wasn't like him to act this way around Ben...others perhaps but not him...not wanting to be rude, he nodded and followed Cap to the pool. He stared at the orbs confusedly and then looked at Cap.

Umm....I guess I am ready to see....you sure are being weird...what's the big deal...oh...and I know you are a magic encyclopedia so please don't tell me all the magicy blabber about this thing...I won't understand it anyway...

Ben spoke in a way that almost made him sound like this was his brother wanting him to do something unpleasant that he had done hundreds of times before.

Cap shook his head and thumped his finger against Ben's head.

Cap produced one small orb and threw it in to the pool. There was a sound like a tiny bubbling at the floor of the pool and suddenly the whole pool lit up. He showed Ben the moments that he was able to catch of Keira's attack.
