"Hm...hit my missile and rain down fire and heavy metal pieces on Earth. Maybe I can live with them launching something as thus at us. But still...they'd probably do it before I got my coffee and if I'm going to die like that I want a cup of coffee in one hand and a donut in the other." Crossing her arms over her chest she didn't bother with switching out her flight suit...okay so she liked to parade herself sometimes. Look what everyone couldn't have. "You know...now that you mention it, that is one thing that I do miss. Fireworks. When I was little, I'd do anything to see a show of them."

Rob could only chuckle at that look she gave him. Such a wonderful girl indeed. "Not lately." Moving over to look over it all as well, tilting his head this way and that. "Is it possible that his systems are using the excess discharge in some manner?" Laughing once more at her excitment though. "Does that require paperwork and should I start putting in equipment requisitions to make a giant fish tank for our friend?"

"It's debatable. Some people think I'm crazy because of the whole refusing to use advanced technology thing. I have my little quirks, too." She looped her arm through Eric's and gave a chuckle then skipped off. "Pike, you have to have clearance to get into the Echo enclosures and that comes from Jelly herself. Unless you have a reason, I doubt you'll be getting that clearance." Truth was truth.

She led the way to the restaurant and gave a double finger waggle to the chef whom she absolutely adored. Most things were informal aboard Fleet since it really was a fairly small community. "Let's sit by the window. It's my favorite table."

Settling and then turning to the newest member. "So, Dr. Pike, let's have your life story."

Sitting down in Lillia's perferred spot, he pulled over two more chairs and ordered his usual. "I'll admit it that looking at Earth is sometimes fun, but I'm so glad we have location blinds." Thusly playing with the button by his chair, making the window cycle through various locations before back to nothing but indeed a window again.

Rennell ordered his steak as wanted. He had a healthy appetite. "Oh this one should be good. We have to get material on you so that we can torment you. Spill."

Adam raised his eyes a bit and smiled. "Really? Well same goes for me, well when it comes to books mostly. Everyone says it's better to use those pads, I like to read from a real book." Though he gave a small nod and smiled. "Of course." Then he went with the others to Lillia's spot and sat inside the booth near the window across from her. Though when they finally were able to finally get some food Adam looked over the menu before placing a good size, but stomach filling order.

After he was assured of what he wanted to eat Adam was able to settle in for a moment before he was suddenly asked for his life story. He felt like a deer caught in the headlights but he broke away from that in a quick moment as he relaxed with a small sigh. "Okay well first off, don't call me Dr. Pike, I'm no doctor in anything. I'm just a typical high school graduate really." Letting that sink in before he continued on. "Well aside from that, I was born and raised in Thunder Bay, which is located in Canada. My mother was a scientist who worked in the Arctic for most of her life. Studying ice samples and such. She met my father who has a knack for working around anything that has to do with machines, and was in the far north to on a routine check up on most of the drills. Before he left he was caught in a snow storm that lasted a week and he met my mother in the lunch room of all places. A few years later they married and three years later they had me."

There was a pause to that before he continued on. "Sorry I should be talking bout me. Since my mother had to be either in the north or south I, along with my two brothers who were born before me, was left to be raised by my father. My brothers are average, one went on to study law, the other an artist. My dad of course related to me most when he noticed I took an interest in objects, how they worked, what they looked like on the inside, basically anything. When I had toys given to me, I tried to take them a part instead of playing with them." Adam's drink then showed up and he took a sip from it before going on.

"As I grew older I moved from toys to toasters, to anything electronic. They had to keep things baby proofed because my fingers wouldn't stop touching anything that could be taken a part. Outside school I spent my days in my father's workshop watching him work on things for customers. When I reached the age of eight I started to help my dad. As life went on I still kept on taking things a part and putting different things together, making small airplanes and such. When I was fourteen I made my first phaser pistol, one my dad got stuck on. It was a matter of balancing the energy output on the blueprint and then I built the thing from scratch. When I tested it, it blew a hole through the garage. I was grounded for a month." Adam had to chuckle at that memory which was followed by a happy sigh, it was a good time in his life.

"By seventeen I built my own fuel efficient engine which uses solar power, but I manage to in crease the energy in take by five fold. My dad still uses it to this day. Then I graduated from high school and...that was it. I didn't go to college or anything. I just stayed at home and tinkered." Another sip of his drink. "Then I saw a show on the Discovery channel on how scientists were trying to harvest pure lava. They can make the machine to go down there and get it, but they had a hard time containing it. It always melted what container they used. I put that little problem in the back of my head and continued on with my life. Soon I was in the library reading a book on glass blowing, because I just wanted to see what my brother did. Now you guys know that glass is created from sand when heated to a high temperature. Well after reading that a light went off in my head. I asked my dad to pull some strings to get me some cooled lava and anything on the containers they used. He did, since he also had tried a few ideas himself in that area. Well long story short after testing, heating, calculating and stuff, I managed to make a glass purely out of cool lava. All I had to do was test it. First I tried with plasma and it held which was good. So I went out to a site where there was an actual volcano erupting. This happened...a year ago. After actually making a big enough beaker I handed it to one of the scientists who were evaluating the volcano. He went out and from a distance, used one of their rovers to dip the beaker in lava. When he pulled it out it was full, some of the lava damaged the robot but it didn't break the beaker."

"After that well I started getting some calls, people asking me what I did. I at least managed to get my glass copyrighted before I had to reveal the recipe I made to create it. And since we had a way to actually keep lava in its natural form ideas started to be thought of how they could use it. As for me..." Adam then pulled out his gun and held it out, "I thought of this. It took awhile to measure the actual energy output of the lava and what I could use without it melting. Plus the fact I had to keep it warm. It took me awhile to create more glass, components that wouldn't melt, and after all that I built this. But there is one problem though." After putting the gun away Adam took off his gloves and put them palm up to reveal healed tissue, liked he was burned badly. "The glass may be able to contain the lava, but it gets hot. I knew that it would which is why the handle is thick with it, but I didn't know how hot it could get. So when I grasped the handle the first time, it burned my hand pretty bad. And after testing it, I of course, not thinking, touched the barrel and burned my other hand." Adam then silently put his gloves back on and took the last sip of his drink before he looked back to the others. "After presenting how the lava could be harvested and figuring out an energy use I was contacted by the fleet here after they reviewed every single work I did. And so here I am." And that was that, Adam placed his hands palm down on the table and sighed. "Any questions...?"

"Go with the beach. I miss it sometimes." Far more private than most, Lillia was taken aback when Adam did indeed share his entire life story. "How old are you?" No college at all...he was probably the least educated on the ship. Most of them had two and three degrees a piece. But some people were simply born talented and didn't need the extra schooling to prove it. Nodding to his hands. "We can fix those, you know. Meta can hook you up with some skin grafts and some minor resurfacing."
PostPosted: Fri Nov 20, 2009 10:19 pm

The boys were pretty much staring in silence at Adam literally laid out his life story on the table. Silence that is until Rennell broke out into a fit of uncontrolled laugher. “Oh my God! He is just as eccentric as the rest of you. The theory is proven! Those born good at science are inherently eccentric.” Still chuckling as he was trying to calm himself down and not choke on a steak fry at the same time. Though he gave a garbled ‘ow’ as Eric smacked him in the back between his wings.

“You deserve the pain, but not to choke to death. That’s too good for you, rascal.” Though admittedly he gave a chuckle himself about it all being shared so easily. Reaching over he set the blinds to a beach setting as requested, complete with ambient noises. "Our boss is in fact working on synthetic skin grafts. I can't imagine you have full feeling in your hands. Meta can fix that too, with her invovled that is. No worries, we won't chop them off and replace them with bioware."

Adam knew that was a bit much, but they asked so he decided to tell anyway. But when he was asked about his age, Adam turned to Lillia and blinked once. "Twenty-four." He knew the look, the look that some people had when they realized that he was only so young, so simply educated, and yet he could make things so easily. When Rennell began to laugh Adam looked over at him but had to smile when Eric smacked him. "Thanks Eric." But when both Eric and Lillia mentioned his hands Adam shook his head. "No, I'm good. I can still feel a bit but I'm fine with the way things are, it mostly serves as a lesson for me. I have a bunch of other scars you can't see, but they were all earned through hard work and so I keep them as reminders. It's a nice offer, but no thanks." He had many memories that went along with his scars, he lived with them now and could live with them for a long time. But then the food arrived and Adam's plate was a burger and fries. "Yum, food!" And once it was set down Adam went for the ketchup and mustard, he needed food in his belly.

And Lillia pouted. "Which means I'm still the youngest." Certain people on Fleet wouldn't let her forget that either. Her head tilted a moment and she frowned. "If you're proud of them and want to keep them, why cover them up? We only offered because you wear the gloves. I assumed it was because you were either ashamed of them or didn't want to scare people." She picked up her own sandwich and began eating but rolled her eyes at Rennell. "I thought we proved that theory a long time ago?"

"The gloves and I was thinking dexterity issues as well. Burn your palms and you lose come of the flexibility and what not due to scar tissue. But you know, you don't have to get rid of the scars to help with that. A little nanomachine injection and a hand massage would break the internal scar tissue up and loosen your hands again. Yes, we can do that kind of thing up here."

He coughed, still trying to recover himself. "The theory was that science made people eccentric. Not those born naturals but because of the learning curve. Though he did snicker. "A few scars scare people Lillia? Come on now. We have James walking around Fleet for crying out loud."

Adam smiled. "At least you're not the one who has the lowest education. Credentials go a long way." Nodding to that before he took a bite of his burger. But another blink as they went about his gloves. After he swallowed his food Adam wiped his mouth as he shook his head. "No, it's not that. As I said before I carry the gun for self defense and so I wear insulated gloves which block the heat from going through and burning my hands again in case I have to use it, and the gun is placed in a leather holster which is padded inside to block the heat there. But trust me it is not a pleasant experience to be burned like that, which is why I was a little worried when you took my gun earlier Eric." And a look over to said man and he gave a shrug. "I'll think about that, it's a nice idea and all but I dunno I've gotten use to the way my hands are after all this time it'll just be weird. I have most of my flexibility back, but they are still good enough to work quickly." And sometimes one just liked the way things were, even if it is damaged. "Odd theroy but sound I guess?" Adam didn't know much when it came to theory. But a look to Rennell then as he mentioned someone. "Who's James?"

"With all you've done, I'm surprised someone hasn't given you an honorary degree yet. You've probably earned a few by now." She decided to let the hand thing go since it was obvious he didn't really want to talk about it or change it. To each his own, she supposed. "Eric has handled much more dangerous weapons than that. He knew what he was doing and he knew how to keep from burning himself. Your weapons have a full file that stays in FS and each officer must peruse before meeting a new recruit."
PostPosted: Fri Nov 20, 2009 11:20 pm

"Suit yourself." Grinning as Lillia both praised him and he had to go and bash himself a moment later. "Dangerous weapons and big animals with big horns, teeth, claws and what not assulting me as well. I can take a lot of punishment before I throw a towel into any place at all."

"JAmes is the seven foot, half-man-half machine military hardass that's dating the crazy lady. I'm sure you'll see him sooner or later if you're going to be hanging around us. Both of the aforementioned people in fact. He had a day off today and you know he has to bother her." Speaking to the other two who were in the know of course at that last bit.

Adam shrugged a bit as he ate a fry. "I don't care if they do or not, all I want to do is tinker with things, I already have a few ideas that I want to try, but as Eric says I need to go through training first, which is okay." He was kind of glad they stopped poking him about his hands, he was fine with the way it was, he made the mistake and so he had to live with it instead of taking an easy way out. "It suits me well." Raising a glass of the drink he had earlier but was refilled of course. Though a look to Lillia and he gave a small nod. "Well of course, I don't expect less from the person who is head of security, but since I just met him I was a bit afraid he went and grabbed my gun like that. But as long as those who need to know about that little part know, then I'm fine with it."

He looked at Eric and gave a two finger salute with a half a** grin. "Good to know, because I may be causing a tiny bit of mayhem when it comes to testing." Jokes aside when he turned back to Rennell as the man described James Adam stopped and thought things over. "I think I saw him earlier today, you don't see seven foot people often, and most of them are not half machine. But I'm guessing Frankenstein's monster decided to take a break as you said as I saw him heading toward the flight deck with some lady." Well that was the first image that came to his mind when he saw the man.
PostPosted: Fri Nov 20, 2009 11:42 pm

She laughed, "as amusing as that nickname is, I don't think I'd let James hear me call him that. He can be quite temperamental and he has his own way of dealing with things that annoy him. Jelly is a bit unique in that respect as well but she'll at least give you a chance before making her feelings known. Not James. He's amusing though, we all get great enjoyment out of teasing the two of them."

Sipping her drink and shooting a grin to Eric. "It's a wonder we don't have any babies yet the way they've been holing up here lately."

"I don't want to be around when that name gets around to James, not at all." Yeah some things you should just avoid on all levels. However the fun part came with conversation turning to the two people they loved to torment most. "It's like a past time up here. Most entertaining."

"Perish the thought Lillia. Last thing I want to think about is them screwing, and the second to last thing I want to think about it little JJ's running around the place, causing havoc wherever they go and so on and so forth. The possibilities are frightening."
