This was true, and really much better than wandering around wondering where Cindy was. Lin sighed and turned around, to head back.

"We should, she could be anywhere."

Earendil smiled and squeezed Lin's hand. "Don't feel bad about it," he murmured upon hearing her sigh. "It's been a long few months for us, we're both tired."

A quick visit back to Rhea told them that Cindy was in the courtyard, and so that's where Earendil and Lin headed next.

The trees in the courtyard were beginning to turn shades of gold and red, but it was still beautiful and serene. Clouds had come up and partially blocked the sun, so it was not as bright as it had been when they first arrived, but in the shelter of the courtyard, there was no breeze, so it was still quite warm.

"She's probably at the gazebo or something," Earendil murmured to Lin as they wandered into the courtyard.

Indeed, Cindy was at the gazebo. One of the nice things about traveling and limiting Vergil's lessons to simply writing an entry a day in his journal, was that it allowed her to do something she hadn't really done for a long while.

Practice the art of potions.

While she had left her equipment at home, there were many plants and recipes here to study and take apart. She was able to spend time writing in her own journal (as she was doing at the moment) and consider what other possibilities there were. While Vergil got to run around and have fun until she reminded him he really did need to do that journal entry for the day.

Earendil first spotted a swatch of blue between the golds of the leaves, and then they came around the bend in the path and there was Cindy in the gazebo. She was alone, and she looked quite occupied, but Earendil felt certain that she would be happy to be able to talk with Lin.

He smiled down at Lin. "Do you want to talk to her yourself?" he asked her softly as they approached. "Or shall I stick around?"

"You can stay," Lin grinned up at him.

She didn't see why he would have to go off, even though really there was a chance it would become a conversation just between two sisters.

Earendil chuckled softly and squeezed her hand one last time as they reached Cindy.

"Hope we're not interrupting," he said softly, trying not to take Cindy by surprise.

Cindy looked up from her work and smiled widely once she realized who was it. Setting her quill carefully down (her pen had worn out a long time ago) she rose from her seat and hugged her little sister again.

"You two are done your visits already?" she asked.

Lin chuckled at that, "We were just introducing Luk to Rhea and made sure he got a room."

So it wasn't a whole lot they had to do.

Cindy shook her head, "You are far too much like mother. Honestly, I bet you weren't even trying to look when you found him."

"Would you believe we were waylaid?" Earendil asked, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. "We were about a week away from here, on our way back, and we woke up in the morning surrounded by ships. We had to go with them, and Luk was there."

Oversimplified, but the truth.

Cindy thought about it before nodding her head, "Actually yes I can."

She motioned for the two to take a seat before sitting back down.

"Some members of the family have been... gifted in ending up in extraordinary circumstances, mother of course being one of them, Triton too though it only lasted until he grew up."

Earendil grinned. "Yes, I can see that," he agreed, sitting across from Cindy. "After all, I've been witnessing it almost my whole life. Lin seems to attract more than most, I have to say, though she blames it on Haven."

He said the last part with a poker face, though he was clearly teasing her.

Lin nudged Earendil but bumping against him as she was sitting down, even though she was smiling at that. She still said there was something odd about Haven.

Cindy on her part giggled at that, "To be fair, Haven was the brainchild of my father."

A Lau, her father might be, but anyone who was part of the family generally did something incredible at least once.

Earendil chuckled and winked at Cindy. "Determined to have your family be the cause of it all, I see," he teased her. "Well, I guess I can't argue that. And I can only say that it's a good thing, too, since it's doing so much good. This place now has a good ruler, Arthael will find out about her family, so many lives have begun ..."

It really was amazing just how much influence one family could have in a world that wasn't even their own.

"Or changed, on both sides really," Cindy replied looking at them both.

Of course there was herself, she had never left the Borderlands even after Rhea had married. Celebor and his family still lived there happily.

Then there was her little sister.

"Speaking of which, it's good to hear you two have worked things out."

At that comment, Earendil's face flushed slightly, and he looked down at Lin. "Er ... yes, well, sometimes even the bravest of men can be the most afraid when it comes to matters of the heart. And it didn't help that there were so many misunderstandings ... on both sides."

He smiled slightly, still gazing at Lin. "But it was a risk well worth taking, in the end. And though the future is still unknown, I'm sure that it will work out somehow."

Lin smiled back, blushing slightly at his words. She had to admit at first it had been quite touch and go.

"You two will be fine," Cindy assured them, "Frankly you two are like our parents. Raising children before even being married, or child in this case. How is Miyuki? Has she grown since the last time I've seen her?"

Lin nodded at this and smiled wryly, "She's about... nine I would say. I don't know how tall kitsunes can get."
