"Learning without a living creature as your teacher. Right." Giving a light nod to her and then watching her as she investigated the book and the diagram for herself, probably feeling out the texture and whatnot. What was this now? She wanted him to teach her to read? That could prove difficult... in more ways than one could imagine. Though he did have experience with such things, as he had to initiate newly recruited Guardians and teach them protocol and all. He decided to give it a try though, after all the little sky blue deserved the opportunities that had been stolen away from her by the Riders. "Alright, Sky. But it will be hard. Language is extremely complex, especially the written forms. We can start simple though, I will teach you to recognize the words for objects. Like that symbol you saw on the side of the cliff when we first met. Do you remember that? You saw it and you understand that if you dug into the sand at that spot, you would find that chest with food and equipment. This will be like that." Thus, first pointing to the written line under the dragon picture. "This means dragon. Dragon, like you and I."

Des smirked lightly and waited for a moment for Brish to come down.

"Business and pleasure. I'm back with the Chimera after my little...tiff, with Hunter. And since we were here, and ran into that little gold kid peeping in the woman's hot baths. Said you were changing your name, and mistook me for you so I decided to stop by."

a small grin to her.

"I figured you'd have followed in my footsteps by now and gotten yourself a captain...or at least out of here. You're talents are wasted here. your a damn fine geomancer, you deserve better than pleasuring men. though you are nearly as good as I was I hear."

That got a little quirk of an eyebrow.

"You know about that thing? and her hidden shard? why is it that you tried to rip my throat out for having them, yet your going to let a far more dangerous woman who can leave this plane at will have them with no fuss? This that never trust a pirate thing?"

though a glance at the crow's nest, and back to the little pest.

"Protection? making them a couple shouldn't be just for protection from your kind I would imagine. you see more than you let on."

He gave a grin as she complimented him once again. Fixing his hair was an impossibility right now since his hands were full of cake and that took top priority but he nodded. "I'ma real good protector. I take care of the girls all the time. Don't nobody mess with them and you can just ask 'em. So anybody come up to you and wanna mess with you, you just send 'em to me, Miss Gem and I'll make sure nobody bothers ya. Right Mister?"

Thobias smoothed his hair that she'd messed up in deference to the boy's feelings and nodded. "Sure thing, squirt. You look like you could be a really good protector. But if you're a protector for the girls, then that might mean you can't come with us."

Her expression didn't change, she merely shrugged. "One man is too much trouble and I make money for what I do. You whore yourself out for free." Shifting her stance, she glided over to the book and glance down. "Needed a bit of a change, I suppose you could say. You ran into Cyv? We've been looking for that kid for a good couple of hours now. Love that boy like he's my own." Shaking her head. "He's got a smart mouth on him but he's as cute as can be."

Brishana's eyes narrowed. "My talents aren't diminished by what I do. I like my job. You gave it all up for that son of a b***h captain. You want to tell me where you disappeared to for all those years, sis? Deacon came through here, ran up a tab with about seven of the girls but you were nowhere in sight."

Eilynne eyed him levelly. "You assume far too much, Captain Deacon. I warned you in the beginning that would be your downfall, now I see it coming to fruition. What I do, I do for my own reasons. I know all that goes on with this ship. I know what is in your heart of hearts just as I know the reason you wish to track the Burning Prince." She laughed softly, "My kind needs no protection from the likes of your or any other on this ship. You have long underestimated what I can do and believe me nothing more than a tiny gnat that you can swat at will. Assumptions, Captain Deacon, will get you killed."

She nodded in her understanding. It was all about recognizing certain patterns of the lines together? Well she was sure she could do that, after all that was what the Riders had taught her at least. Eyes moved to where he pointed before her fingers ran over the line of text too, fingertips more or less tracing letters for a moment. Okay...so this specific pattern was going to mean dragon. "Dragon." Tracing it again, "Always mean dragon?" prodding at the line of text and watching him. "Always? Never other thing?"

"Aw, he's like a little knight! Well that just makes the little girl in me giggle and sigh in puppy love. No worries kiddo anyone bothers me here and I'll send them right to you." Lookin over his head and horns to her first mate then. "You see, everywhere we go we find something or someone splendid don't we? I have that kind of magnetism about me." Fluffing her hair with a free hand at that one before finishing off her food. "You think my boys have enough smarts to head to their new home by themselves? I have my colors up."

"As much as I appreciate self loathing and all, as well as anger and hate and what not because it works for me and mine and dieties and the like...you're being downright oppressive do you know that? And that while usually a compliment from me, is not this time. Which means you're really in hot water."

"Shut your mouth elf...why don't you go torment someone else for a while."

"Because you're the one being a beacon of negativity. I'm drawn to that kinda things sometimes but for now there's been too much...and you don't know how to handle what you're feeling it seems.

"I said leave me be. Don't make me make a point, I am a dragon after all." Rider dragon.

"Anger, that's a good start...usually I don't help people...but here's some advice. You better start crying or breaking things to let yourself vent. If you let it build up and you let it get the better of you....I'll be the first to kill you and make a puppet out of you to stop you from doing anything harmful. And that Commander wouldn't be able to stop me, no one would...I don't even have to be near you to kill you..." Smirking as the dragoness got up and turned to her in that more or less challending way.

"I'm left with nothing but to assume. you and yours don't tell me a damn thing. and you know so much, then you should know that I will get it done, and the ends will justify the means for me. adn the protection I was refering to was not for you, but for them. there are probably many means of protection between them you could provide besides getting them basically married."

Desdemona got up, and slapped Brishana.

"I don't whore myself for free. I have only been with Deacon since I left here. and the price he's paid has been in far more then you made and freedom."

before being pleasent again.

"Yes, ran into him. he's currently with captain Gem, who knows where. and I didn't say it diminished it. just that there's not much call for it in a brothel, thus you don't get the education in it I think you deserve."

a frown at that last thing.

"A gilded cage. One of the crew managed to setup myself for a fall, claiming I was sleeping around and using that to start or plan a mutiny. SO he put me in a cavern cage. he visited me regularly, and made sure I was comfortable."

shrugging.

"When I got out, I took care of the wretch, and me and Deacon after some issues are back to normal. So, tell me, how big is his tab and with what girls? got to know who the competition is."

Tracing was a good sign. Meant that at least she was cognitively processing the information instead of just spongeing it up for imitation later. That would probably not get her very far anyways. "Always means dragon, but it is more specific than that. It means a dragon in natural form, like in the picture. Fully scaled and at full size. Not like me and you right now." Flipping to a different page then and pointing again. "This means a dragon in neutral form. So like we are now, still dragon but with some human features like smooth skin. Notice how the one symbol here is exactly the same but the supporting ones around it are a bit different." Hmm... was this too much, too quickly?

Okay so this always meant dragon, this particular pattern of symbols and what not. Meant she could remember that one. But a blink to him as he explained further...there were different words for how they looked? They weren't just 'dragons' all the time? Eyes back to the pages as the page was flipped and he pointed out the new symbol that came before the ones she had just put to memory, again to the finger tracing on that. Taking hold of the pages, she flipped them back and forth as if comparing the two and picking out the similarities and differences. "Dragon." Pointing to the previous page, then flipping to the other, "Dragon, but...human too. Both." Both as she had come for first call the two who stayed in neutral form more often than not. "Always means both?"

Tail flicking back and forth, amber eyes with slitted pupils tracked the slight movements of the elf before her. "You don't even know what you're talking about. It is never safe to assume."

"I'm not assuming...you like Deacon underestimate me and I will tell you what I told him...I at least have ears all over this ship and I know almost every word spoken on it. I have to protect myself after all...and you Rider dragon are now a threat to my safety. I can't have that...so I can either be nice about this...or kill you outright to save the trouble." Yes she was barbing...but she was doing it for a purpose. And it seemed that was working seeing as she was now being advanced on.

"You make me out to be a threat because you are the one who is on the low end of power here. You know very well I could rip you apart if I wanted to." Jaebelltiah couldn't believe the things coming out of her own mouth...she never talked like this...but it seemed that she was just so angry and upset that she had no control over such things. "Rider dragons are harmless next to me...last warning...get away from me."

A smirk and she flipped out blades attached to chains into her hands and took stance. If she was more inclined she would of laughed seeing as they were in the hull of the ship and what not. "I don't do warnings...you want to shut me up, make me."

A growl from her throat and instinct and irrationality were the driving factors this time, telling her fight response to kick in and go after the elf...however it seemed a point had been made by the smaller creature and in a few moments, Bell found herself face down on the wood, the elf's knee in her back with one chain wrapped around her neck and her other hand holding to one of Jae's horns, pulling her head painfully to the side at an angle that it wasn't really supposed to go. How did that happen so fast?

It was all a matter of a shadow step for her and it was all over...it was over before it even began though really. "I could snap your neck right now if I wanted, you see that? You're foolish in letting your feelings get away and out of your control. You don't like your life? Good. Not many of us do and to think otherwise is folly. You think you're so bad off...you're not even a true rider dragon nor what you all call noble dragons. A little identity crisis is hardly devestating as other things. Listen good....I don't care how you do it, but you get your head back in the game...or I will be first to eliminate you from it. You saw how easy I just did it now...that is my one and final warning, don't take it lightly."
PostPosted: Sun Mar 16, 2008 8:50 pm

He frowned at that. "But what if I wanna..." Going quiet as he bit his lip in thought and ate another bite of cake to help his cognitive processes. "I got it! One of you guys can protect the girls instead. They always telling me they don't need me to protect 'em anyway. I think I'd like a ship. Is there cake?"

"Some will be so desperate to get off Deacon's ship, they'll run for any empty ship in the harbor regardless of colors. Fang could have a decoy and it wouldn't matter, they'd already be moved in." Shaking his head and tossing back the full tankard before slamming it down to signal he wanted another. "There's muffins. Galley makes cake only on special occasions." Chuckling, "You can keep him, Gem."

"All was told to you in the beginning. You chose to take my words as you wished." Eilynne didn't waste words and what Deacon might not be realizing but probably should is that all of her words had an underlying meaning or message tailored to him directly. "I know what is in your heart of hearts Captain Deacon just as I know you believe only those creeds that create some benefit for you. But heed my warning because it will only be given to you once. Your means are below my own. If your plans interfere with mine, rearrangement of priorities will occur and the goddess does not take kindly to meddlers."

The slap hardly fazed her. Desdemona wasn't as strong as she thought she was or perhaps she just didn't slap that hard. "Don't try to okay it, Mona. You turned your back on your own kind and remain with a human. Anyway you look at it, you are whoring yourself. Dragons don't mate with humans, it's unnatural." She was rather surprised to hear that her sister had been locked away. "And you didn't eat him. What a pity." Raking her eyes over her sister and laughing. "Competition? If he would rather sleep with others than you, you are doubly a fool for remaining loyal to him. But you always were the rebellious one. Does that mean you're shipping out with him again and it'll be years before I see you?"

"Savryn Silverfeather D'vinn." Shaking his head. "Always torturing the harmless ones, aren't you?" Sliding smoothly in the middle, pushing Savvy back and turning his attention to the dragoness. "I apologize for her. She has no manners and very little tact but that's why we love her. Now then ladies, how about we continue this chat on a nicer vein or just leave it alone altogether, hmm? I'm sure there's something far more pleasant you could be doing with that luscious mouth of yours, D'vinn." Reaching down to help the dragonness up.

"If you wanna, you can. That's the trick to life, grabbing hold of it as it comes barreling at you." But another giggle. "We can't stay to protect anyone Cyvalor but I'm sure someone else here would be happy to. And Mister Robins is right, cake it for special things...but we have the grandest muffins almost every day. They keep me happy. I think you'd make a fast rank rising cabin boy, personally." Giving Thobias a smile in that girlish way of hers that she pulled off nicely sometimes. "They probably would. And you're so wonderful you always let me have my way...though I think we have have to look out for fondling little hands." Which amused her greatly.

Clouded eyes darted up at the familiar voice and she swatted at him as he disengaged the two, untangling chains and putting space between them, making her ears twitch at the sound of the dragoness coughing as she tried to regain herself. "This is not a matter you need to be concerned with...how did you manage yourself on this ship anyway?" Shaking her head and gathering up chains.Let her go...the weak get culled or become strong eventually..." Frowning at his could be vulgar phrases. "Silverfeather-D'vinn. Don't you have things to kill or something."

Still coughing she allowed the new elf to help her up, and merely leaned against a nearby support beam. She would retreat top deck to get some much needed air, or at least felt that's how she needed to get it, but she needed a moment to get her head back in order. Kind of dizzy.
PostPosted: Sun Mar 16, 2008 9:51 pm

"It's not free, I expect handsome rewards in return." Giving her a chesire cat grin and taking another sip of his freshly filled tankard. His smile darkened and he shook his head. "Little fondling hands? Is he one of those?"

"Ya know, Mister, it ain't polite to talk about peoples who are sitting right next to ya. And you say I ain't got no manners." Shaking his head and sipping at his butterbeer again. "I like muffins. What's he mean by one of those anyhow?"

He grinned at her even though she couldn't see it, she could feel it and he knew it too. "I followed you." And she hadn't know a thing which was the very reason why he was so damn good at his job. "Silverfeather-D'vinn. Damn woman, we need to get you a nickname. I'll come up with one soon enough, I'm sure." He made sure the dragoness was alright and then wrapped an arm around Savvy's waist and forcefully led her away. "No slaughtering today, sugar, but I'm pretty sure I'll have more toys for you to play with soon enough. Now, why are you torturing nearly defenseless dragons who have anger issues?"

Deacon watched her carefully a moment.

"I will get what I want. and if I have to call down the wrath of this goddess of yours that hasn't so far lifted a finger to help you or anyone else on this supposedly important task, I will."

a smirk.

"and I hold to my own codes, laid down by pirates generations before me. not so much of 'my own codes' as you seem to imply. just because my ways aren't as benevolent as your ways doesn't mean I don't stick soundly to my own creeds and codes."

though glancing back down toward the interior of the ship. and back at her.

"I imagine that fear of being eaten was why he visited me rarely. and why I was kept well secured. I have my fill of the one who set me up anyway. and I don't see it as whoring myself by staying with one man rather then being with another every hour or so."

though a bit of a thinking look.

"Perhaps it is a bit unnatural. but no more so then you playing whore to humans for thier coin. I just do it for coin, and for freedom from places like this."

then a slight smirk.

"and, if what I hear goes well, I'll have free reign in the big city, no prison sentance or hanging. the deal Deacon made with Lycear gives the Chimera and her crew a free ticket. So I'll be shipping out with Deacon. you sure you don't want to come with? no ties, nothing to keep you there or here."

a shrug.

"and I bet my share of the Chimera's take is more money then your earning."
PostPosted: Sun Mar 16, 2008 10:12 pm

"Oh so it's that kind of thing? I suppose I can do that." Shaking her head lightly with another giggle as she leaned back some in her chair. "Come now, look where he lives." Turning eyes to the little one again...he was quick she would give him that. "Better they talk to your face than behind your back, Treasure. And he means little boys who want to put their hands places they shouldn't. Like valuable objects and the like."

"Shut your mouth Inthara...I've not the time or patience for your teasing." There was of course a reason she was extra mean to him and always had been since she lost her vision...trying to make him walk away from her without disrupting thigns too much and making life hard for her. Stiffening as his body mad contact with hers and being no more compliant about any of this. "I can get my own fodder thank you, I don't need you for that. And I'm merely looking out for myself. Not that you should care of be involved."

Oh good, someone had hold of that thing. Giving another cough she pushed off the beam and stumbled herself top deck then over to the railing ot clutch to it and hold tight to keep herself up as she took measured breaths. Eyes focused out on the sands though and wings gave a small flutter...how easy it would be to just fly away and not come back to all of this...and yet....how disappointed others would be and how much more of a liability she would become. Rubbing at her neck lightly she tilted her head some, looking to soothe pains.

"To your knowledge anyway." She knew better but merely quirked an eyebrow. "Betrayal among thieves or otherwise is covered in those codes. Heed my warning, Captain Deacon. If not, you could easily forfeit a life."

Brishana responded with a sound slap. "No human has ever or will ever touch me. They may pay me to dance but nothing more. Our kind is not meant to lay with theirs." Rolling her eyes and then settling back against the pillows. "Freedom? What sort of freedom do you have, Mona? You are at a human's beck and call and if that wasn't bad enough, you get absolutely no say in where you will be going. That adventurous spirit might appeal to you but it doesn't to me. I prefer my life here to what we grew up with. Or did you forget?"

"And I don't like appeasing you, Silverfeather-D'vinn. Let's walk." Keeping her close to his side and strolling along beneath the deck. "You don't need anybody and you're much better off alone. Your brother warned me about that independent streak of yours. Said it made you quite the b***h but you're happy that way and I won't interfere there. I came to find out how you managed to convince my baby sister to gallivant off with you. Well, that and a job I have but that's no concern of yours."

"If it ain't got nobody's name on it then it's free reign. If'n people don't want their stuff stolen, they shouldn't have it out where little hands like mine can get to it. Not my fault people are stupid and wear their purtiest stuff on their ankles and clothes. If I had stuff like that, I'd wear it right next to my heart where ain't nobody gonna get it 'less I'm dead."

"I suppose that excuses him? Regardless, you'll have to remember to respect Gem if you come with us, boy. You'll be at her beck and call you know. That means no back talking and no touching what she doesn't want you to." Chuckling at his thievery justification. He sounded just like Deacon in that respect.
PostPosted: Sun Mar 16, 2008 10:45 pm

"As long as it's not mine."

before glancing at a dragon one way, and the elves in another way. what had gone on below deck?

"betrayal rules apply to those that are pirates. those that aren't pirates aren't covered. But I'll heed your warnings with as much a grain of salt as I ever do."

the oldest pirate rule. you could give out all the codes word for word. every person that you ever met could know them. but if they weren't pirate, that didn't afford them any safety they thought it might. she had a point, he didn't know if that goddess had intervened, but he'd expect that he would know it if something like that did.

Des didn't flinch at the slap either. this was a common occurance between them. and leaned back across from her sister.

"You're only partially right. because I share deacon's bed, I have leeway. and I have wings. if Deacon goes to a place I don't want to, I am under no obligation other than my own loyalty to stay at his side. and the crew has say so in where we go, save for situations like now where a deal is struck for a specific thing."

leaning forward a bit.

"Yes, I remember. I also remember begging and scrimping until we got 'adopted' to this place. and unlike you, sister dear, I did have to bed humans. If I refused, they'd have thrown both of us on the streets again. how do you think I acquired the taste? and they don't make bad bed partners. they are certainly far less violent in many cases. and even if they are, a dragonling could handle the adults that come into places like this."

obviously the lure of money wasn't going to work. Brishana might not know it, but eventually, with all the Riders, the dragonic element in this city was going to fade. and with her recent experience, probably rapidly, and soon. and when that happened, they'd either throw her out, or force her to bed humans.

While she did enjoy being with Deacon, and she cared for him very much, there were things he simply could not offer being a human. like a lifetime together. he'd die far sooner than she would. and she'd prefer her sister not have to go that route, and follow in her warped footsteps in due time.

"How about this. the Chimera is slated to recover shards of the Orb. you know what I'm talking about, you'd have to know about it in your studies. think of what you could learn. we even got two of the crafters of the thing guiding the trip. little star eyed things. I forget thier name."

Leaning back.

"There much more to life then sex and money. and I don't want to see you get thrown out one day when your sexual prowess falls short to a dragoness a third your age."

She didn't trust his steps. She only trusted those taken with her mother or father. Not even her brothers got the privilage, thusly she had a hand out, feeling things as they passed them. "Which brother? The business one or the lazy one? If it's the former...well I hear a wedding may be in the future and that would be fun to crash out of spite. The other I can chase around as much as I like." Rolling her eyes. "I convinced her of nothing...she wanted to get out and I was conveiently home at the time and was leaving soon. Don't you have a job to do, I know I have something better to do than have to swat at you." She had a shard to fetch to prove a point.

"That's a good lad! You'd make a perfect pirate I say. He knows his stuff already now doesn't he." Grinning to that and then at her first mate. "I do owe him a freebie though I admit that. But I don't think we'd have problems...that is if he wants to go. Besides...I could use a little keep on my toes action. Would be fun."
