Without you, the ground thaws, the rain falls, the grass grows.
Without you, the seeds root, the flowers bloom, the children play.
The stars gleam, the poets dream, the eagles fly, without you.
The earth turns, the sun burns, but I die, without you.

Joyce sat down at her new table, her new home, and smoothed out her dress a bit. She looked around and saw a girl at the Slytherin table that made her stomach churn a bit. She had dark hair and eyes, just like herself, but a cold look about her. Interesting, that.

She ate delicately and didn't speak a word to anyone. Just like always. Joyce never spoke, smiled, nothing, really. She knew many of the children here, like herself, had suffered. They were raised in the war. She hadn't suffered like that, she was muggle-born so she wasn't involved.
Ever since her little sister died, and Joyce held the corpse, she'd just never quite been the same. She didn't like getting close to people. Deep down, it was fear that kept her that way. What if she lost them? And even deeper down, all the love she'd kept contained just wanted to be free. And deeper still, she knew it wouldn't be. She just couldn't love again, couldn't lose again. But the sorting hat must've seen through her act, and it placed her here, in this sentimental house. Really, Ravenclaws were practical and smart. She wasn't. She looked at the world not from another angle, but from a bird-eyes view. Like an observer of the world passing by as a parade of colors and people, never partaking in their laughter and games.
She wasn't cruel or cold. She wasn't a slytherin, she didn't dream big dreams, have huge ambitions. She wasn't outspoken about getting her way, demanding.
And she wasn't brave. You see, Lucas, Fionna, Al, Caiden, Drago, all of these people had done a lot of 'losing' people. Family. Close ones. And each one of them showed unbelievable strength, courage, bravery, and pushed through the hard times.

She'd never pushed through. She'd never gotten over what happened years ago. She wore the same mask daily, until now, when it was stuck to her face.

((OOC: This is a true story about the sister and never being able to care, it happened to my grandmother and to this day she just can't love people.))

Without you, the breeze warms, the girl smiles, the cloud moves.
Without you, the tides change, the boys run, the oceans crash.
The crowds roar, the days soar, the babies cry, without you.
The moon glows, the river flows, but I die, without you.

The bodacious Ravenclaw brunette entered the Great Hall. She strutted towards the food table and looked at the choices. Even though she automatically grabbed a eclair anyhow. She loved them, they were possibly her favorite food in the entire world. She skipped away from the table and looked around, her Mary Janes lightly hitting the slippery floor. She did a 180 and looked at the tables scanning them for people to talk too.

The boy at the Slytherin Table seemed to have his own thing going on. This other girl looked lazy and didn't seem to want to be bothered at all. Then she saw a different girl. She noticed her face to be new, but she didn't look new at all. She looked like on of those girls in the black in white movies. Rose frowned seeing her visible frown. She walked over to the dark haired girl. She noticed she had pretty eyes. The were large and open, yet they look un amused."Omigawd! Hi ! You have like, really pretty eyes! What's you name?" She asked her sweetly. Rose had the best personality. No one really despised her deep down. She knew they disliked her but no one absolutely hated her...well, besides her uncle. That man totally hated her becuase of the flower girl thing.

I don't wanna look like you because

Joyce was taken aback when the bubbly Ravenclaw approached her.
"Thank you. My name is Joyce." She said calmly. She continued eating as if she had nothing more to say.
It wasn't that she couldn't communicate with people. She used to be a jumpy kid. It's just that...she wasn't really like that anymore. She was very calm, low-key, didn't that anything affect her. If someone punched her in the face, she'd probably just walk away. If someone kept bothering her, she'd ask them to stop. If not, sure, she'd fight back. Her tutors had taught her more than Lucas, and she was obedient, she didn't really argue much.

But she cared about people even less. She spoke in a monotone voice, as if she was a teacher, an older person. It came off as mature, but really, it was immature, her beliefs about love. She didn't believe in the expression better to have loved and lost than to not have loved at all. She did love. And she did lose. And it was essentially rubbed in her face for that week. She would've rather not had a little sister than that trajedy. Now, she was just unfeeling, no emotion, expressionless. She didn't smile at Rose's compliment. She didn't shake Rose's hand. She didn't want to make friends, just to have them snatched away.

Bobby Grimmjow - 3rd year Hufflepuff
Bobby was starving. That was his biggest problem, other than people starring at him, he had a massive appetite. He really wished Hogwarts could serve 6 meals a day. He couldn't even have snacks in class. His size always caused him to eat a lot. His dad always had snacks ready for Bobby at home. The jar of licorice wands and chocolate frogs didn't even last a day. The jar now held his spare money on his bed side table. He walked into the Great Hall, the smell driving him crazy. He sat down at a random spot at the Hufflepuff table. He piled mountains of food onto him plate and started eating. It was only after 5 minutes that he looked beside him, seeing a new student siting there and Rose. The new girl was pretty, but there was a... sad air around her. He put down his chicken and wiped his hands and face clean with a napkin. "Hello. My name is Bobby Grimmjow. What's yours? Hi Rose." He said with a smile, holding out his hand. He was getting more comfortable talking to people. Everyone he talked to here seemed to accept him for what he was.User Image

Rose giggled. "Well you are very welcome!" She smiled so bright and optimistically it could cure cancer. She smiled when her name came up. "Oooh! You have such a pretty name. It''s a pleasure to meet you Joyce! I am Rose, Ravenclaw perfect." She said about to stick out her hand when she noticed that the girl wasn't even looking in her direction anymore. She seemed it be distant. She look depressed and well, bored. Rose decided she was going to have to amp things up to get this girl to talk to her. "Sooooo...I see your a Hufflepuff." She said looking at her uniform. "Is it nice there?"She asked her politely.

"My name's Joyce. Nice to meet you, Bobby." She said to Bobby with a small nod, not taking his hand to shake. He must be half-giant, she'd read about them and he was extremely tall.

Rose seemed determined to talk to her. "I don't know, to be honest. I just got here." She said in that same, monotone, stiff air. It was like she was condemmed to feel the same tone at all times, speak the same way. She didn't smile, nothing. She just wished Rose and Bobby would leave her alone. She knew they meant well, but she didn't want their questions, or their sympathies.

She was distant, but didn't have that cold air, at the very least. She was just...unapproachable. The person who you wouldn't talk with, it was like pulling teeth trying to get her to say more than one sentence. She didn't have that nasty, wicked evilness that Rhiannon had. And she didn't act superior. She was just...nothing.

Bobby Grimmjow - 3rd year Hufflepuff
Bobby's right eye brow rose up in a silent question of, don't like to shake hands? He nodded, picking up his chicken. "Nice to meet you. To be honest, you're the first Hufflepuff I've talked to, alive anyway. Everyone else is always busy. But you're going to enjoy it as a Hufflepuff. The common room is wonderful and the books are amazing, especially the potions books." He said, taking a bite of the chicken. Joyce seemed dry, like she didn't have emotions. Talking in that drone voice. Muggles would accuse her of being a robot. When he finished his chicken and grabbed another one, he started to think about the possibility of a potion to block out all emotions. Would that be possible? "The Fat Friar's nice. The other day he told me a recipe for fried partridge. What's your favourite subject?" He asked kindly. Bobby was never stern when he talked and he would never know what sarcasm if it jumped on his back. He just wanted to make friends since he never had any until Zoe.User Image

Joyce just nodded as Bobby continued blabbing. Didn't they get it? She didn't want to make friends. You can stop trying now. She thought. She sighed inaudibly, smoothing down her dress a bit again.

When her ears were burning and she knew Bobby was looking at her, she shrugged at his question. She wasn't sure of her favorite subject, but she'd prefer not to talk if she could avoid it. Better to save her breath, her voice. Still, there was nothing to save it for, she never used it. She didn't sing, she didn't laugh. She liked listening to sweet music sometimes, it wasn't that she didn't like it. She just didn't have the...enthusiasm for it.

The best word to describe her was melancholy. It was a pretty-sounding word. And she's pretty. But the meaning...she's just gloomy. And what she wanted right now was for Bobby and Rose to just talk to eachother. They both seemed like kind people, why don't they just talk to eachother? She kept eating, silent. She knew, from this moment on, that it would be a bit more of a challenge for her to ignore these people. They were a persistent bunch, even if they weren't Gryffindors, who were supposed to be the 'determined' ones. Of course, it was mostly stereotype, saying that, here she was, a loving Hufflepuff who never had anyone to love for half her life. The other half...was a bit different. Even her parents she had distanced herself from.

Rose knew what this girl was up to. She was trying to make them leave her alone. Not talk to her. Rose was not about to let that happen. Rose loved helping people and she was going to help this girl if it killed her. She needed to know that she was allowed to have friends. Allowed to be talked too. Se was allowed to enjoy life instead of sitting there letting life a** her by, She needed to vent, as it looked like. Rose was prepared to make this girl's frown turn upside down.

"Hiiii Bobby!" She smiled. "Nice seeing you again." She relied and turned back to Joyce who still looked depressed. "Hey Joyce? What school did you go to before Hogwarts?" She asked. She was not letting this girl slip away that easy.

"I went to a private magical school." She replied. She liked it there a bit better. There weren't any 'houses', no stereotypes. It was like the school was split into enemies here, no Ravenclaw would fail a class, all Gryffindors were the heroes, and Slytherin's were evil. She didn't like being a part of a 'house', or a 'family' that just competed against others. Every person was different, so why were they all separated into categories where they were..similar?

Really, she didn't think this Ravenclaw was all that smart, pestering her when it was obvious to anyone she preffered being alone. She wasn't sad, she wasn't depressed. She didn't need a 'shoulder' to cry on. She didn't need someone to wip 'tears from her eyes' when she wasn't about to cry. She wasn't about to smile, laugh, get angry, cry, nothing. She was just a nothing. Why couldn't people understand that? Some considered it not even human. Crying doesn't prove you're human...it just proves you've lost someone, or something, something's happened. And she didn't want anything to happen. Not like what already had.

((OOC: Think Mai from Avatar, minus the love for Zuko.))

Bobby Grimmjow - 3rd year Hufflepuff
Bobby listened to what Joyce said to Rose. His dad never told him about any private schools. He started to wonder what a private magical school would be like. He noticed that every time Joyce answered one of his or Rose's questions it was always just one sentence. Did she think they were annoying? He shrugged to himself at the thought. He was just trying to be friendly. He new how it felt when people were mean to him so he didn't want to make people feel the same way. That was probably why he was put into Hufflepuff. "Do you have a broom? If not, you could borrow mine...you might have to be careful though, it was custom made for my size and it's twice the size of a normal broom." He said with a chuckle. He loved his broom. It could withstand a lot of extra weight. The company that made it was really good at making brooms. He took another bite out of his chicken. Even though it was his sixth piece of chicken, he didn't feel anywhere close to being full. He didn't know if he should call it high metabolism, he was getting rounder the older he got. He shrugged again at his thought.User Image

Rose nodded. Private school,eh? Someone was fancy. She giggled. She smiled at Bobby. "Aww thanks sweet of you." She said in reply to Bobby's very nice offer of his broom to Joyce. If this girl was as completely bored as she looked then she wouldn't get NEAR a broom. Rose didn't care if she was annoying the living crap out of this poor girl. Life isn't always fair, and it wasn't boring. It shouldn't be wasted. This girl was sitting around doing nothing with no personality at all...practically WAITING for death to knock on her door. That was dreadful. Now why would a person born with such a pretty face and lips to smile with...waste their life? Rose wasn't giving up. It didn't matter that this girl wanted to strangle Rose for talking with her she was gosh darned gonna keep talking until she smile. She wasn't super super bright but she sure knew how to talk to people. "Oooh. Joyce what Quidditch team do you root for?" She asked. Quidditch was a subject EVERYONE loved to chat about.

"I'm not into sports." Joyce said. She didn't really talk about Quidditch with anyone. She didn't respond to Bobby's offer of his broom, either. Her answer worked for both questions.

She sat there, wasting her smile. She was just so dull. Really, she was impressed these people were even still listening. If she were someone else, she would've left already. If they expected a real answer from her, or any questions, they would be deeply dissapointed. Were Rose and Bobby really about to waste all this time trying to change someone who wouldn't change? Kinda sad. By sad, she meaned pathetic. It was just so silly of them. She didn't mean pathetic in Rhiannon's use of the word, not that they were useless stupid people, Joyce just thought they were being rather pointless.

She was almost done with her breakfast, thank goodness. She sliced the last waffle and poured a few drops of maple syrup on it, all the time, Bobby and Rose's eyes on her. She remained boring, kept up the mundane attitude, and all the while, hoped they'd go away.

Bobby blushed a little at what Rose said about his offer. He nodded at Joyce's response, not giving up in the least. He could tell that Rose was trying to do the same thing. Joyce needed to loosen up. You can't stay emotionless your whole life. That was unhealthy. "Well, if you change your mind, the offer will still stand." He said with a smile. Even though someone would acted like this didn't stop him from being nice. He grabbed some bacon as he studied Joyce's reactions to things, which were minimal. "I don't think this question has come up yet but what year are you? I always have a hard time guessing considering...you know." The whole time he talked, his smile never disappeared. This school had definitely changed him. User Image

The Ravenclaw frowned a bit. This girl was such a bore. Rose just feel like taking a nap talking to her. Rose was totally distraught what was it gonna take for this f-ing girl to smile. She just wanted a smile. One pesky smile from this girl. If she smiled would leave her alone forever and never talk to her again. She just wanted to see her smile. She waited for her answer as Bobby spoke. Good question, she mouthed to Bobby.
