And how do you know that they are - or were - connected? Gion questioned curiously. If they're invisible, how can you know if they are there?

Threads is under the catagory of auras, spirits and other things you need a different type of sight to see. I see a lot of kind of threads, or I use to when I could still see. It was always strange walking through a crowd of strangers seeing all these threads and passing through them like they were air. As for how or why.. I sort of seeked out the person on the other end of her thread, I was curious....
Daemon wouldn't deny it.
It was so bright, so it was a sure thing... I had met Long's son once... when he was like.. three.... that was a very very long time ago.

I think everything would have been a long time ago for you, Gion replied with a grin.

Daemon laughed a bit.
Yes well... the last time I saw his son was when Kara was a baby... so it has been a very very long time. Long wasn't much for disclosing his private life.

Oh? Gion asked curiously. Such a close friend didn't even show you his family but one time?
Now that was interesting.

The family itself... like many old clans like it are secretive about family matters.... I was lucky to even get to live in one of the houses in the outer edges of the compound.
Daemon explained.
The Mizu family is like that too.. Yume's family... it's quite fanisnating.... the families know of each other existances through the grapevine but what goes on behind closed doors are left up to grapevine rumours.

Family compound? Gion asked curiously.
He spotted green in the distance and grinned.

Some families call themselves clans, and are as suggested all related... though at times distancely so... families like Mizu and Lau are like little villages or kingdoms where people are all related to lack a better term. On a very large piece of land... family down to the... probably second cousins... maybe third... but that's pushing it. They live in what they call the family compound. consisting of a neighbourhood of houses with the largest one being the main house where the immediate family lives. Though really the term immediate family is a loose one... really the family that lives there is the family of the head of the clan. Like a village or kingdom there is a leader of the clan, who's job is to look out for it's well being as well as manage the family's holdings. Qualifications to be head of the family vary from family to family. For example in Long's family the head can be either male or female, qualification being falling upon the member who had the highest reputation at the time they were looking for a leader. Often as a result it is often by default older men or women because their family occupation is dangerous by nature.
Daemon explained as if it was a matter of fact, which it was.
The Mizu family on the other hand, Yume's family... the position is inheirtary, on default the heir is female, but only because they are a group of spiritualist and for whatever reason or another the ability to see specifically ghosts have fallen mainly in the female line for some reason in that family. Qualification then is being a strong spiritualist, if no one in the immediate family has the gift then it is to look for the ones closest related, it's every once in a while need to look outside the immediate family is probably one of the reasons why they keep their first and second cousins close as they do.

Ah, Gion smiled. I see. But please tell me they leave their clan to look for a partner in life ...

Daemon laughed at that.
Yes... yes they do, well their jobs in both clans force them to travel... and the Mizu family isn't above trying to erm... have little get togethers with other clans they like.

What were you thinking? Inner clan marriages?
Daemon knew that was possible, but it was so out of date and the clans didn't like to interbreed to the point where they would have issues.... though some clans did so by accident because there were a small number of other clans they liked.

Gion shrugged mentally. Well, you never know, he defended himself. I mean, there are some people who ... well ... just do stuff like that ... and I don't know your world very well, so ...
He shrugged again.

Centuries ago there were records of that, but in most places it's considered strange.... and weakening... for clans like Long's to be weakened is never a good thing.
Daemon replied back knowing that it might have been the case.

Gion nodded. Indeed it is, he agreed. Both strange and weakening ... inbreeding has caused the downfall of more than one village - thankfully, none Elven. I know of no Elves who would even consider doing such a thing ...
