omg I haven't said anything about movies in FOREVER!! I need to go thru the thread and comment on the movies discussed here and tell you all new ones I saw.... Which i saw a great movie last week. "Saving Face" It's about a chinese american girl and her mom who both have "forbidden loves" The daughter is a semi closted lesbian and the mother ends up moving in with her when something happens that disgraces her family. It was funny and moving and a little sad. I really really loved it tho. http://imdb.com/title/tt0384504/And it reminded me a little bit (tho not really) of one of my other favorite movies "The Wedding Banquet" which is about a gay chinese man and his american lover and the woman he marries to satisfy his traditional Chinese parents. http://imdb.com/title/tt0107156/

We just got back from seeing "The Wild"
MiniMarshmallow fell asleep on the drive home, but I am quite certain she enjoyed it. I know I did.
It is pretty much the same story as Madagascar, only good.
And Jim Belushi is the squirrel! (I think he's hilarious)
And even better, it was only $2.50 per ticket!

I actually saw madea's family reunion on DVD before the movie came out ...a copy of a play....actually before diary came out too. I think he is absolutely brilliant and touched something in our consciousness that we desperately needed in entertainment. I love Madea. And he's a pretty fine man himself wink

Just saw a couple of older movies today, I guess they're so-called "must sees" that I never got around to watching when they first were released lol
The first one was Donnie Darko. Too weird for me I guess, I kept zoning out until I finally fell asleep about half way through lol Usually I kinda like "warped" movies, but that one I just didn't get.
And the second one was Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Woohoo! biggrin Loved it! I can't believe I didn't see that one before, but I've always thought it wasn't my kind of movie rolleyes Now I can't wait to see the sequel, which is actually playing in the theaters here now, but everyone I know have seen it already so I'll have to wait for the DVD. Bummer.

I am at a loss for I have little time to go to the movies, and my wifey take up all the time on the widescreen so I guess the computer is my only avenue of relief from the world in general. 3nodding

okay...so I haven't been as spammy as I thought I would be. It's coming tho...no worries.
I've actually watched many horror movies lately....mostly Asian... So if that's not your bag then just quietly walk away.
Last week we saw this movie "battle Royale" it's a Japanese horror flick. It takes place in the future where there take random classes of kids and put them on a remote island and give them supplies and they have 3 days to be the last remaining survivor on the island or everyone gets it. So it turns very "Lord of the Flies" ... people killing people they used to call friend. It doesn't sound like much, but it was really well done. And the ending was great imho.
Then we watched another Japanese horror flick Dead waves. It was about a Japanese TV show about exorcisms (think kinda a supernatural Jerry Springer) they're losing ratings and then they run across a genuinely haunted situation. It didn't start well imho...but it ended up being really enjoyable.
After that was the drive in yesterday. Pulse (American version of a Japanese horror film we've already seen) I liked this version...but of course not as much as the original. It's about people seeing ghosts in their computer (and so much more) I liked that they tried to explain more than the Japanese version did, but i didn't like the turn it took towards the end. It's kinda creepy and well worth seeing.
Playing with Pulse was The Descent. About a groupl of extreme girlfriends who go caving together and end up with more than they bargained for. It's pretty bloody and there was a scene in it that had me throwing up in my mouth a little (so gross....last movie that did that was Hostel with the scene with the drill) And apparently they changed the ending from the original which was seen over in the UK cuz they thought it was too bleak for American audiences. Truth be told, I can't wait to see the original ending cuz the one I saw last night wasn't exactly rainbows and sunshine if you know what I mean.
And finally tonight we watched a compilation disc movie called "Three Extremes" It's 3 Asian horror movies. 1 Chinese called "Dumplings" starring Bai Ling and Miriam Yeoung about a woman obsessed with regaining her youthfulness and the lengths she will go to. Next was a Korean film called "cut" about a Korean director who gets tormented by one of his movie extras who has a grudge against him. And finally was a Japanese piece "Box" which was a bizarre tale of sibling rivalry and a woman who has recurring nightmares of being trapped in a box and buried alive. From what I can tell reading reviews not all the discs are in this order...but I don't think it matters. Just a warning....please please PLEASE don't even think about eating before you see "Dumplings" ... I can't say anymore without giving anything away, but it seriously made me physically ill with it's premise. DO NOT SEE if you don't have a strong stomach.
Tomorrow I get "Bailey's Billions" from netflix (starring Tim Curry of course) It's gonna be nice to see something besides horror lol
