"I'll not have one of Yamato Hotsuin's men wandering around my area, unimpeded. Joe's sacrificew will not be in vain." He drew his own phone and glared down at the boy. He was younger...He couldn't have been much older than Yamato. Why would such a child tear through someone like that?! "It's not right..It's not..JUSTICE." Yet, no matter how hard he pushed forth..No matter how hard he would push himself.. He couldn't overcome the boy....He couldn't defeat him. But... He wasn't going to join Yamato's faction.

Things were happening far too fast now; the Messiah that had come out of the woodwork, so to speak, had tried to goad him into a fight and then left when an idea that better tickled his violent fancy came to mind. He let out a breath at the relief he felt, not being confronted with the need to fight someone that he pitied so intensely, but then there was a commotion from back inside of the base, shouts that both Ban and Otome, who were lynchpin members of their Egalitarianism movement, had been defeated! Hatsu's eyes widened as he pushed aside the gate to the shelter they had been protecting and caught the first person that he passed by the shoulder. There was a look of horror in his eyes...and Hatsu felt his stomach sink. What...what had happened?
"Joe...Ronaldo...they lost to someone from the Meritocracy Faction! We're under siege...I...I think the shelter is going to be overrun without them! We can't keep fighting for this world like this...we can't!"
His eyes widened...Joe...Ronaldo, too? Who was left to support their world of equality? Kyuzo had gone missing in the morning, though Hatsu had only heard of his joining, and he had never returned. That left no one. No one except...

If they weren't going to be able to win the contest against the other Factions by the strength of their numbers, there was only one other route that he could imagine their Egalitarianism dream coming to fruition: they needed to be the first amongst all the Factions to summon Trumpeter successfully and defeat Benetnasch. If they could do that...perhaps their will would still be heard by Polaris in the end? It was a long shot, but they were running out of options, much as this day was running out of hours. They had to win...they had to. They couldn't let the Meritocracy Faction win...by any means necessary.
"Trumpeter, please come out," he called again at the kiosk, opening his phone and appealing to the devil within to no avail, "Will you not listen to me? Humanity needs you...we're going down a path that's wrong..."
...But nobody was listening. And if they were, they had turned him down. Maybe...maybe if he was going to settle things, he needed to go elsewhere. Maybe he would have to fight the others in the end, no matter how he felt. It was time to go find out where this world was heading, once and for all...

He had returned from Tokyo victorious, but it wasn't enough that he could relax on. Just beyond the shelter was the Septentrione...the real enemy of the day...Benetnasch, looming ready to strike. He couldn't waste any time and summoned his devils to attack and try to lure it away...but again they were dismissed, forcing him onto the run. His eyes widened as an attack tore up blacktop and forced him to retreat into an alley, moving non-stop until he had circled around to a side-entrance to the shelter. He needed to regroup, then come back and attack again.
He would never allow Benetnasch to hurt these people...and if his victory in Tokyo had proven anything, when he put his mind to something he could rise to the challenge with the best of them.

"Hatsu!" The red haired girl moved past the people gathering around the magenta eyed college student, congratulating him and getting news about his victory in Tokyo. Seika spotted him, and relief washed over her. He had been rash, running off like that without her... and for that she'd give him a piece of her mind later. Now though... she was just glad he was back, and on top of that victorious. She knew Hatsu was strong... They had a chance to make a new world. If they had Hatsu as the one guiding them... she knew they could.

Seika wasn't the only one relieved when he had come back from the raid in Tokyo alive. Seeing her after such an exhausting, dangerous battle brought a feeling of warmth to his chest that made him want to embrace her...but he was sure that she wouldn't want that kind of mushy emotion after all that had happened. She was surely upset at him for running off to challenge them in retribution for what had happened to Ronaldo and the others, but he had survived...made it back to see her...so that they could continue to fight for their dream together.
"Aa...I'm sorry," he lowered his head faintly and scratched the back of his neck nervously, trying to think of how to justify what he had done, "I couldn't let them get away with hurting Ronaldo and the others. I had to help..." And he had gotten them more help, too! Sako, Wakui, Kanno...they would be invaluable in protecting this place. And with Hatsu and Seika helping them together...they still had a chance. Somehow.

He didn't need to justify anything. As he neared her, the redhead embraced him, pulling him to her in a short but tight embrace. "You did well... "She let go of him and took a step back, suddenly feeling awkward in her own skin. She wasn't used to this kind of shows of affection, but... the situation called for it.
"I'll do my part now. I will find the other fractions... I will defeat them and bring them to our cause." She wasn't asking... she was asking permission. But still... she let him know. He had risked his life for all of them. She couldn't let him do it all by himself, and so... she would do what she needed to do.

He was surprised when she embraced him...but it was in that moment that he realized how badly he had needed that little show of affection more than anything. It was a reminder of the sweeter things in life, the payoff for all of the sacrifice...how dedicating yourself to a cause that was more important than yourself could be worthwhile. If he protected her...if he protected everyone...could they all feel as warm and wonderful as he did with their arms entangled around one another the way they were just then? He was sure that his cheeks were pink...that his face had softened and for a moment, all the combat tension was completely drained from his body. But he needed it...he desperately needed that moment of pleasant relief. And just as soon as it washed over him, it was gone, but it was still enough.
"Aa...I know," he nodded faintly, sure that she would have done this already after hearing what he had done...his part was finished, but hers was about to begin...there was only one condition, "Come back, Seika. That's all."

Now that she had gone, Hatsu knew that he had his work cut out for him back at the shelter; he had diverted Benetnasch once, but it was still in the area...finding it and trying to set off a few explosions away from the shelter as a diversion was the first order of business. The noise, the force, hopefully that would be enough to capture it's attention at least for a little while...and so he had used what knowledge he'd gained on the streets to set a few lit rags in gas cans, the guilt at destroying the cars just outweighed by the necessity of his actions. When it came to property or lives, he would destroy property if he had to...but down the road, if he could, he'd be sure to pay them back. Each license plate had been memorized, though he couldn't be sure he wouldn't forget them later...and when he was finished, he worked down the alleys towards the shelter again to meet with what was left of their people.
"Aa...when Seika comes back, we need a strategy," he thought aloud, but there was no response from the few who could hear him...each too deep in despair at the loss of their leader Ronaldo to respond to him until he called out over each of them and drew their eyes, "We must keep fighting! These people need us. Until the end...keep fighting. Understand?" They weren't entirely convinced at his words, but his eyes gave no room for debate. He was determined...somehow...some way...their dream would endure. As long as this boy was alive...
