((alyx 1,2))

Alyx HP: 190
Alyx AP: 7

roll1: 1+28=29*1.5=43 block

The boar had seemed to figure out that the warrior was not going to let it go that easily, and turned to make its final stand. Alyx' keen eyes charted paths on the battlefield to account for the possible attacks it could make, and put himself into a position to easily be able to access all of those paths of opportunity. His only job was to keep the new guy alive, and if he could manage that, then maybe he could begin building his name and legend. That's all he really wanted, he supposed. To make a name for himself. To be put out there and known by the community. In a game with as little story as ALICE Online, it was completely possible to create your own lore, and what better legend to grow than that of Alyxandeyr, the Gloomking?

((roll is loot))

Rota was listening to the Boar's movements, waiting for it to strike, and then he heard the subtle *thud* of the Boar clanging uselessly off of Alyx's shield. that was just the boon he needed. he rounded Alyx's right side, the tip of his blade digging through the ground as he felt an overwhelming surge of power. he stabbed the boar through the flesh between its jaws, and drug his sword down the length of the boar as he was pulling the blade horizontally behind him, cutting the Boar in two. Its eyes glazed as it fell in twin pieces and shattered into dancing light. Rota flicked the blood off the blade, stabbed the sword into the ground and pumped both fist in the air triumphantly "YEEEEEEEES!!!" It was now that Rota remembered his injury, and fell to his right knee with a startled shout of pain, clutching the hole in his side with his left hand.

((loot roll for boar 1))

Alyx took a breath and rolled his head on his shoulders. "Well, that was excitement enough for one fight." He sheathed his blade and looked over at the dramatics coming from the guy who obviously had his pain settings turned up too high. "Doing alright over there?" He noticed distractedly that there was an immense pile of loot waiting in item claim for him, and decided that he'd flick open the dialogue to figure out what he'd gotten from all this. Four boars and an augmented boar, if he remembered right. Oh, and another trophy. Can't go wrong with trophies. He grinned. His house was going to kick a**.

Rota brought himself to his feet, ripping the sword out of the earth and shouldering it once more. "Yeah, just never felt pain like that before. That was WAY worse than training." Rota cracked his neck. "By the way, the name's Rota Abyssian, but most just call me Rota. I assume my intuition is right in telling me that you're Alyxandeyr?"

He'd already introduced himself to Rota, so his own name would be visible on the man's HUD. "Hello, Rota. That would be me. Alyxandeyr Chysoryll Nonmethis, the Gloomking. What gave me away?" He grinned slyly as he gave a bow, his spidersilk cloak flowing smoothly as he moved. "More, what brings you out here into the woods without something even to keep you warm? The wildlife is destructive enough, but give the cold and damp a chance and they'll cut you down quicker than anything else. Take this; a gift, to honor our meeting." Alyx flicked deftly through his massive inventory and produced a vest made of coarse, thick hide. ((You decide the exact appearance)) He held it out to the man with a smile.

Name: Boar hide vest
Type: upper
Grade: medium
Stats: when worn as a set, provides immunity to bleed, and a maximum of 9 damage reduction via medium armor skill.
by itself, reduces duration of poison by 1 round, and mitigates a maximum of 4 damage via medium armor skill

Rota smiled as he took the Boar hide vest. he was more partial to jackets, but this thing was way better than what he had. it was a dark brown vest with a soft fur lining. the arm holes had hide faux paldrons that set along the shoulder so someone who used a double bladed weapon like Rota did could shoulder their weapon. the shoulder protectors had no legitimacy as armor beyond that. It had a matching set of fingerless gloves and the back collar to the center of the back was covered in the mane of the Boar. It started Black, then tapered off to a cream/white. "Well, aren't you just the equipment fairy today. Thanks, man!" He pulled off his battle worn black jacket, and tossed the vest over his red tank top. He zipped up the vest, rendering the shirt invisible, and his arms exposed to the elements. He slapped on the gloves and shouldered his blade once again. "I just wanted to see what this wood had to offer before starting to make a name for myself. That Boar came out of nowhere!" He sighed and shook his head. "Besides, I'm Half-Demon! I've never been sick a day in my life!"

The player turned on his OOC chat and Rota's eyes and hair grayed out once more. "If it hasn't become clear yet, I am playing up my character. I figured if I was going to play this game, I might as well go all out." He bowed Rota's head respectfully "Thank you Alyx, for helping Rota through that fight, and for the gear." He turned off his OOC chat and Rota's colors were back to normal.

Alyx nodded. "This part of the woods is filled with boars. They come here for the mushrooms." He pointed at the base of a nearby tree, where a small colony of fungus was growing. "If you're looking to explore, I'd probably start over there; fewer mushrooms, so the boars won't get made at you for standing in the way of their meal. Let's just be grateful you didn't run into a bear instead. We're not actually too far from where they stay." Alyx looked around, looking up to the sky and taking a deep breath of the musty air. "But if you're looking to make a name for yourself, you need to get your name into peoples' mouths. Best place for that is to start helping out the people in the encampment. I'm actually heading back there now, to reforge some old alliances. Forming bonds with other warriors presents you the opportunity to grow in both fame and power even more quickly. We have room, if you're interested."
PostPosted: Sun Jul 12, 2015 11:40 pm

Rota smiled his shark-esque, toothy smirk. He did his best to take in a lot of the knowledge Alyxandeyr had. "That sounds like it would be great! I heard that the town was a good place to start, but I wanted to take stock of my surroundings first to see what I was dealing with." Rota shrugged. "I guess no one has ever accused me of taking the path of least resistance." he rolled his shoulders, and prepared himself to walk back the way he came back towards the town.

Alyx nodded. "These parts are dangerous for the ill prepared. The Gloomwood has claimed many lives. You'd do well to prepare in the encampment before venturing out again, unless you're with some other warriors. It's difficult to survive out here on your own. I'm not sure anyone can do it, and I've seen even large parties of warriors be dispatched by some unknown enemy or another.

Well, let's head out. My old comrade is waiting for us at the encampment, and we shouldn't keep him waiting too long. After that, we'll decide what comes next."

Alyx turned, his cloak billowing behind him as he began to walk back toward the encampment.

((My original post looked more like this XD, and I realized that I was turning into a cartoon character

Alyx nodded. "These parts are dangerous for the ill prepared. Even a casual stroll through the Gloomwood can lead unwary travelers to their demise, as you have seen well yourself. We will prepare you for combat and venture forth en masse to accustom you to the dangers that lurk here, so that you might be better equipped to deal with those dangers in the future." ))

Rota began following Alyx towards the town, still taking in the subtle beauty around him. Yes, it was a grim landscape that smelled of mold, and many of the trees choked out the light from view, but there was a certain ambiance to it that struck a cord with him. "So, did you have help out here, or were you always this experienced?" As they walked, he considered things he could do in the safety of the village, and how it would improve him for combat moving forward.

Alyx considered his answer carefully. He did not want to give the man false hopes of fighting alone in this hellscape; Alyx had been extremely fortunate to survive as long as he had. He decided to go with something akin to the truth; he had fought beside Abaddon, to be sure. "I had some help, along the way. Most of what I learned about combat is from a long time ago, though. I was able to leverage my skills as a soldier along with a little help from some friends" --here he thought of the RNG and the admin-- "into something approaching a familiarity with this place. I've lived long enough to grow accustomed to the way of life here, and have truthfully begun to wonder what lies beyond this Gloomwood. But there will be time for that another day. Today, we are focused on new beginnings, instead of far-off futures. Now, where is he?" Alyx shot off another message to Kiyoshi, after looking around for a little while. ~~Hey. We're here, but I can't seem to find you. Shoot me a message back and we'll meet up somewhere. Sorry I took so long, I got caught in the middle of a pretty lengthy battle.~~

"Well, I can't seem to find him. That's alright, though. We can use this time to get you a little more prepared. One of the first things you're going to want to do is get a skinning knife, so that you can harvest meat and materials from the things you kill, otherwise it all goes to waste. If you speak with the Weaponsmith, she'll get you set up on that front."

Name: That's Not a Knife
Questgiver: Weaponsmith
Prerequisites: None
Objectives: 1 post to produce a skinning knife
Rewards: 1 skinning knife

Rota nodded. "That sounds like a plan. I'll get to that right away." As he walked to the Weaponsmith, Rota couldn't help but feel that there was something that Alyx was keeping from him. He had seemed very tentative about answering, but he had no reason to distrust him. All he had to do was prove him wrong. He graciously accepted the materials to make his skinning knife, and sat down to work.

His father had been a smith, so the workings of metal and leather were not unknown to him. he had tried to learn before, but he never quite took to it. Now, in this hostile landscape, things were beginning to make sense as he wound leather cord around the handle to provide grip. He felt more inspired to be a craftsman than ever before. Metal seemed the most desired path, but as long as he was going to be getting animal hide from now on, he might as well take up leather working on the side. He refined the edge to his knife, making sure that it was as sharp as he could get it without compromising the material. this way, he shouldn't have to sharpen it for a good long while if he took care of it.

When Alyx saw the work that Rota had accomplished, he smiled. "Splendid! Now, next, we have a few options, but if you'd like to get right into the action, then I recommend speaking with this woman over here. She has a problem with the Gloomweave spiders in the area, and is willing to pay for their eradication. The first step to getting your name out there is to get people talking about you, and doing such a service for the public good is a surefire way to do that. If you're ready to venture back into the realm of combat, that is. If you'd like, there are plenty of things to do to help out around the camp that will better prepare you for your future life, as well."

Rota chuckled. "Jeez, the way you talk, you'd think I was obsessed with glory. I am willing to bide my time. Legacies aren't built in a day, and that is something I realize." He wandered a bit, looking at all the people and heard their plights. while he did want to forge, he heard the plight of the mother, and felt it prudent to take that one on first. Not only did she have a dire reason for him to take it, he desperately needed healing items. He noticed that there was a challenge that had great synergy with the mission he had taken, so he decided to claim that one as well. Rota turned to Alyx "I think I will do combat for now."

Alyx HP: 218
Alyx AP: 10
Spider: 20
Gloomweave spiders: A large spider, roughly three feet tall and six feet across. A successful attack from this monster will cause poison for three rounds, worth one point of damage a round. They are found near a cave, which is filled with them. Venturing into the cave will start an encounter with at least three spiders. (player gets to choose how many, but it must be at least three, plus one for every additional party member beyond one.) Once those spiders are defeated, notify a moderator for your special reward, before leaving the cave.
HP: 20
-40 to all combat rolls.
Immune to effects.
will always attack (will attack party members at random. 1-100 can be split into as many parts as needed to ensure everyone has an equal chance of getting attacked)

Alyx had been projecting. He realized that while he himself wanted his guild's legend to grow, that might not be the first priority of other players of the game, who might be less interested with creating lore and more interested in experiencing it. Alyx picked up a couple quests while he was in the camp and waited for Rota to be ready. "You're right, of course. I suppose I am somewhat vainglorious. I apologize if I offended you. All of that aside, though, are you ready to go? There is a cave filled with Gloomweave spiders just up ahead. It really is in disturbing proximity to the encampment, I can see why people would be worried about them." He began to lead the way toward the Gloomweave cave and spotted one of the massive spiders some distance away from the others. Drawing his blade from its holster in his shield, Alyx rolled his head on his neck. "Are you ready? I'll try to keep it from hitting you, and you just focus on wreaking as much destruction as possible."

He stepped into aggro range and the spider turned to face him, raising its front legs as a show of warning even as it bared its fangs, each dripping deadly venom. Suddenly, it leaped forward at Alyx, aiming a vicious bite at him.
