Eloise chatted merrily to the hawk that was now happily perched on her shoulder. It hadn't taken her long to tend to the poor thing's wound and now they were in search of anyone else they could rescue. She didn't seem to care that the hawk couldn't understand her but just his company alone was enough to make her happy.
"It is awfully cool and crisp today. Don't you think?" She didn't bother to wait for a response that she knew wouldn't come."Hey I quite like the sound of that, crisp. How about I call you Crispin?"
The hawk let out a soft screech that she took as an agreement. The pair continued through the forest until they heard a large crashing sound deep in the forest. It was probably just a branch breaking but what if there had been an animal on the branch or under it? Eloise and Crispin just had to investigate it. So the pair set off into the deeper areas of the forest.

Maggie sat up, spitting muddy water and spluttering indignantly and glared at the sarcastic salamander. "Well, bollocks to you, too," she grumbled as she staggered to her feet and step by sticky step extricated herself from the thick mud, slowly clambering her way back up the creek's bank back to where she'd started. Maybe she could pick up the trail again.

Quote: You spy a splash of blood on a single yellow leaf on the ground. When you examine it, the blood looks fresh. Strangely there are no trees in the area with such distinctly golden foliage, but this is still excellent evidence of an animal's trail… isn't it?
After some time of continued searching, however, you are forced to come to the conclusion that you've been waylaid by a prankster — or an unnaturally clever fox. Elizabeth made a sling for her new little friend out of the burlap she had awoken under. Then, taking the golden leaf with her, she decided on a path that may yield something. As she continued on, she gently patted her new friend. She thought on it a little and wondered if her new friend would end up attracting the fox in the end. She rather hoped not, since she has planned in keeping the darling thing. Elizabeth looked up into the sky, wondering which direction she was going. And, beyond that, if it was getting darker outside. She couldn't really tell through the trees.

Oh, Gabriel recognized Llyr indeed. How odd to fin him with blood upon his cravat...
The man turned to leave and the Chosen turned to face the direction he had pointed. The Wood was full of tricks and phantom images, but...
Morai lowered his head, prepared to run after Llyr, but Gabriel waved a dismissive hand. one did not attack supernatural creatures, whether they were helping or harming. With a disappointed 'plrt', the pair continued in the direction the man had pointed.

Finally! A triumphant grin danced across Ysalone's face as she leaned to pat the mare's neck. "Ici!" She twittered, urging the horse forward. The mare, clearly unperturbed and uninterested in anything happening around her, followed with a dull step.

You disturb some leaves, and beneath them you find a perfect fox print pressed into the damp mud. Was the fox trying to hide its tracks? Regardless, this is excellent evidence of a trail.

You pause for a moment to get your bearings and cannot resist taking in the breathtaking beauty of the autumnal wood. Even with the weather overcast the vivid scarlets and yellows of the foliage are as rich as dyed velvet against the gray sky and the black trunks of the trees. Gazing into the infinite reaches of the forest is like looking into stained glass…
When you turn back around an enormous fox with a luxurious pelt is standing directly in your path, watching you. Its eyes seem amused, somehow. It quickly dashes off into the undergrowth before you can react — but at least now you have a pretty good idea of where you should be heading.
You win four points this turn.

Mist began rising from the damp forest floor not too long ago; now it's all around you, muting the autumn colors behind a ghostly bluish veil. You can still see well enough to stick to the path you've chosen, but as you walk or ride on you begin to catch glimpses of something white showing through the sparse yellow leaves of a buckthorn hedge.
You investigate.
Unfortunately it is only the skeleton of a large stag, stripped of flesh but otherwise almost perfectly intact; time has bleached its bones to the stark paleness that distracted you. A single wild rose has grown up through one of its eye sockets.
You do not win or lose any points this turn.

The forest is quiet; by now most of the birds have migrated south, and the only sounds you've heard for the past several minutes are the rustling of the breeze in the trees, the plop of acorns falling, the quiet scraping rustle as a leaf descends to the forest floor, and the occasional rasp of a squirrel gnawing on a nut's shell in the distance. It is peaceful — or, depending on your character's preferences, a little eerie.
The shrill, almost-human scream of a rabbit's death cry shatters the silence. Once you've taken a moment to recover (or, if you're a badass mofo, coolly evaluate the situation) you head in the scream's direction. It could be the work of a hawk, but there's still a good chance a fox is nearby.
You win three points this turn.

The trees in this area of the wood are ancient and dense enough to block out most of the light. The floor is carpeted in a rich coating of moss and fallen leaves, all a deep shade of scarlet. Eventually you become aware of a low whispering sound coming from above you. You look up.
There is something pale and strange in the dark webwork of branches, something moving… you receive the impression of long, crooked fingers like broken twigs, bright eyes that seethe with malice; it is whispering at you…
When you come back to yourself no time seems to have passed at all, but the look of the sky and the numbness of your legs suggest that you have been standing in the same spot, motionless, for several minutes. Something distracted you, but you can't remember what it was.
You do not win or lose any points this turn.

The woman grins at the scent left behind by a liquid-laden fox. Letting her hand hover over the wet bark, her grin widens even more when she realizes that it was indeed still warm. Pushing a stray strand of hair, she rises from her crouch and sets off in the direction predicted. She hoped to find the fox that had left behind such an obvious mark, for fox meat was something even she couldn't deny.

You hear a frantic rattling sound accompanied by a stream of musical but panicked warbling. When you investigate the noise, you find a bright blue and white fairy wren struggling inside a bramble-bush; one of its wings is caught on a thorn. You manage to free it and it flutters away, lands on a bare, gnarled branch, fluffs up all its feathers, and begins preening. You feel strangely lucky afterwards.
You win two points this turn.

The footing is poor here, and you trip over a root hidden beneath several years' worth of fallen leaves. You manage to catch yourself against a tree before you fall, but the rough bark leaves painful, stinging abrasions across your palm. This may put you at a slight disadvantage.
You lose one point this turn.
