Alias Facade Just something that I've been mulling over since I saw it earlier in the thread and I was looking for clarification: There has been concern regarding copyright/intellectual property infringement getting in the way of what we use as themes/characters/etc. Is that really an issue for a forum-based event like this, especially one made by volunteers without any profit motive? I should think it would fall into the same category as fan-fiction. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Fan fictions aren't technically legal. Doesn't matter if there's profit or not (but this is a profit site, even if we don't profit ourselves) Fanfiction can be removed at any point if the authors or publishing companies say so. They can even sue. Most don't, but there are some who are bit...iffy to say the least. Not worth the risk.

Sachie Whitby eran no shi PinkieKitty eran no shi PinkieKitty Nope. I took the time to type it out a second time. ninja I kind of liked the idea last year. I really like the idea this year. Not that I'd be unhappy with any of the other ones, of coarse. sure sure.... but the idea's havent changed much XDDD heaps of zodiac.... Yeah, it's only a matter of time before the zodiac are used. The only issue with the Zodiac is... what in the heck would the co-hosts play? There's the host and the secondary playing signs/animals but what about the hosts? Constellations? spotted , barrels and i worked it out that the host and the secondary host would be zodiacs and the rest Constellations O3O it could work but people have issues with it due to religion and such I think the issue here wouldn't be religion so much as past balls... I mean the zodiac is essentially Greek Mythology, and wasn't that a theme already? Even if you toss in the ruling planets to change things up a bit, wasn't there a ball already that had planets as a theme? It might make more sense to use the Eastern Zodiac as a theme as that would have zero overlap with past balls. Well, if you do look at the mythology, it's a very different mythology than the one in the greek ball (which dealt with gods). So even if something is mentioned in passing, we're hardly reliving a past ball. As for planets...this has little to do with planets themselves. Again, they may be mentioned in passing, but it's not necessary. I think my idea, using the signs themselves and how they affect things like personality, prosperity, love life, etc. would be a lot of fun, and also be really original. Which, honestly, would work for both zodiacs (east and west) but I really don't know what you could do for cohosts in the eastern zodiac theme. Western zodiac would lend itself more for cohosts (other constellations), and in my opinion offers more diverse personalities and quirks to work with for characters.

Just some examples - Capricorn is the sea-goat Amalthea that suckled Zeus after he was saved from being eaten by his father. Gemini are the twins Castor and Pollux who shared the same mother but one had a mortal father while the other was immortal due to having Zeus as a father. Leo is the nemean lion that was slain by Heracles during his 12 labors [and Zeus was his father also.] Scorpio was the scorpion that killed Orion. While Orion himself was the son of Poseidon [who didn't get around as much as Zeus but still did] who had personally met with the gods Hephaestus, Helios and Artemis. What I'm trying to get at here is that you cannot exactly remove the gods and goddess completely from the zodiac myths and still have those myths.... Unless you mean to just disregard the myths completely and make the ball theme not the zodiac & it's myths, but maybe something more in the lines of zodiac-based Astrology? Oh and I'm not trying to shoot down your idea. I consider this just a friendly discussion to facilitate new ideas. ^^ The only things I specifically won't add to the list are things that violate US copyright laws and/or would violate Gaia's own Rules/TOS. In terms of the eastern zodiac, I only really know my own sign [the Pig] as I've not really studied it.

In terms of the eastern zodiac, I only really know my own sign [the Pig] as I've not really studied it. The eastern Zodiac is based on all the animals coming to a banquet or meeting hosted by the Jade Emperor(sometimes referred to as God) and decreed that the years on the calendar would be named for each animal in the order they arrived. Some say that a trick was played on the cat so he would miss the banquet, and other stories say that the cat is not part of the zodiac as it was formed before cats were introduced to China from India. Another reason for this is because the Cat arrived last and was the th guest to arrive. The Eastern zodiac is as follows: Rat Ox Tiger Rabbit Dragon Snake Horse Goat Monkey Rooster Dog Pig

But of course, you do have a point with the relations to the Greek Gods and the mythology.
But who knows? We might not even end up going with the Zodiacs? I think it was during the 9th when we were going crazy over one theme, which I forgot. Maybe Shakespeare? Anyway, then the 7 deadly sins came up and we went crazy over that. XDD
As for the Eastern Zodiac, I know the whole story. XDD
It was about a race to get the ultimate prize from the emperor: a place in the zodiac. The cat and the mouse teamed up, planning to get in together. However, at dawn of the race, the mouse did not wake up the cat, leaving him to sleep. The mouse (or rat, however you like to call it) went on by himself to cross the river, which was basically the race. He could not make it past the river himself, so he asked the ox for help. The ox said okay, and together they made it past the river. The cunning mouse jumped right off the ox's head at the last minute, landing in first and securing his spot as the first zodiac. The ox was second. The tiger, being one of the fastest animals, came in third. The rabbit hopped in fourth. The dragon flew in fifth, after pausing to help people and creatures on earth. The horse galloped in sixth, with the snake at his ankle. However, the snake startled the horse, and the horse kicked the snake forward. The snake was proclaimed sixth, and the horse seventh. Later on, the goat, monkey and rooster came in on a raft. They had helped each other, so the goat was proclaimed eight, the monkey ninth and the rooster tenth. The dog swam in eleventh, who couldn't resist temptation to play in the water. Lastly, the pig oinked in. The emperor called the pig twelfth and called it a day. The cat, who was late to wake up, tried to get into the standings, but did not make it. He was 13th because the rat did not bother to call him up. From that day on, the cat always hated the rat.
The end. It's a lot more detailed, but I condensed as much as I could. XDD I hope that helps.

The 9th ball was more religious than this, tbh. And yeah, the cohosts would be best as constellations (I think it would be cool if they were minor guardians or something) biggrin i just mentioned that people may not like it because Alv mentioned that she wasnt comfortable with it due to that, and as much as i love the idea, i want everyone to be happy with it.

Sachie Whitby Video Game Homage/Genre ThemeSample Rooms -- RPG ROOM: Summoned Monster Taimers: Pantry Raiders [aka "Pantry Raiders"]inspired by: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 & Persona 4Plot -- Everyone in your town wakes up each morning to find that food in their pantry is burnt, including things in cans and jars. Bread seems to be affected more than anything else. Although just a high school student on summer vacation, you and your friends have awoken to a special power that allows you to enter the pantry world and confront whoever is behind this! This room would essentially be the dungeon crawl part of an RPG game, with enemies that take the form of things like cream puff swans and bunny-shaped rice cakes. Most of the host/hero characters fit within certain arc types, like the boy who doesn't talk much [everyone calls him "MC" as those are his initials] the really smart girl who is technically the leader, the ever loyal best friend, etc etc. Guests will be invited to join the party, crawl the dungeon, experience monster summoning, and help discover who or what is behind the mystery. FIGHTING GAME ROOM: Super Hybrid Champions Turbo EXinspired by: fighting games, but name comes from versions of Street Fighter IIPlot -- You've received an invitation to participate in the annual world fighters tournament with a prize of 100,000 gold! This room would essentially be a PVP fighting tournament. Like all such games, the host characters join for various reasons -- some want to prove to themselves that they are the best fighter in the world, others just want revenge, and some may have an adversary they want to confront. Alternatively, it can be in the style of Soul Calibur where everyone is competing for a specific item with their motivations varying. HERO ADVENTURE ROOM: Heroic Legendsinspired by: The Legend of ZeldaPlot -- The princess is getting herself kidnapped every other week, and it's happened yet again. Although just an ordinary boy [or girl], you've decided to take up your father's sword, join with your friends and go on a mission to save the princess. This room would start in a small village, progress into a short quest to obtain the legendary weapons [by day two], then progress to save the princess. However upon reaching the top of the tower where she should be, all that they would find is a note saying "I'm sorry, but the princess is being held captive in the OTHER castle." SIMULATION: The Little Village of Mynarinspired by: Harvest Moon, Animal Crossing, etc Plot -- In this open-ended game, you can grow flowers in your garden, make friends and design your own home! This room would replicate a small village in games like Harvest Moon and Animal Crossing. The general premise here is that there is some sort of special festival that is going to occur on the third day but none of the townspeople are ready for it. They all appeal to guests to help them out so that the festival will be the best one ever! Any time will do, my love...
... Any time will do, no choice of words will break me from this rule. ... Is it bad that I read the first one as "Panty Raider"? I was just skimming... But I love this idea. Perhaps we could have a puzzle game room and a rhythm game room as well.

In terms of the eastern zodiac, I only really know my own sign [the Pig] as I've not really studied it. I think what Silver is trying to say is that we verge away from the origins of the zodiacs and focus with a little more modern zodiacs, like the personality traits and the elements and all that mumbo jumbo. What Eran and I discussed didn't so much centre around the Greek Gods (we didn't even mention them, lol) but around that new zodiac, the Ophiuchus, being upset because all the other zodiacs were so highly considered, while he was only being found out about now.
Isn't that story just from the Fruits Baskets anime though? Where do you think Fruits Basket got the Idea from? It wasn't just made up. That is one of many stories of how the Chinese zodiac came to be. there is plenty more on Wikipedia. Oh okay. Thank you.

Captain Dory Gwendolyn Barrett Captain Dory Spottedteddybears Sachie Whitby I'm not sure how it is different considering that the western zodiac is based on the Greek/Roman myths.
