Of course Yirath was still watching and still protective of her children, even as her time grew to an end. A relief for her, no doubt. A sadness and yet a relief for the weyr. Eliaza found herself tearing up again as she watched the golden twins choosing their partners. Good, she thought. This is all for the best. Pick brave girls.
----
Orthoth continued to bugle and bleat and beat the sand under his feet with his tail. He flapped his wings and called encouragements to the other gold, since the first had already found Hers. COME COME COME JOIN US THERE IS MEAT AND RHODONTH LOVES YOU AND WE ARE WAITING FOR YOU!

One queen down, and one to go. This had certainly been a delightful and horrifying clutch to watch. The last two dragons showed themselves now. Both greens. Not a bad clutch, with twin queens it was great. But when it was over.... Her eyes looked over the old queen. It was almost time to say farewell.

Stromath was really quite enjoying watching these last special moments-- save for his obnoxiously loud brother constantly overriding everything. He gave the other bronze a disapproving look. His patience was being tested. Orthoth, --
"Stromath," K'en interrupted, before subtly shaking his head. I don't think that anything you say will quiet him down. Don't focus on it so much while the Hatching is still going on.
... Very well. I will speak with him later on the matter. It was fine to be loud, but time and place were very important. While cheering for their twin sisters was good, interrupting them in such an obnoxious fashion while they found Theirs was not.

The second gold padded through the girls, sharp gaze sweeping over those present, she even veered towards the stands a moment and people held their breath. But no, she'd taken a detour to walk along the backside of the group, cooing. She glittered and shone beautiful, truly a prize for the lucky girl.
After a while she started shoving through people, getting frustrated. Was Hers hiding?
The huge green yawned and trotted over to her sister, nuzzling against her and churring before she galloped away in that awkward hatchling manner of running, all legs and no grace. Head bobbing, she went straight the boys while the other girl hesitated, waiting for her sister to Impress before she waded fully into the girls' ranks.

F'law thought the gold might be heading for the stands, but she only wanted to go around the back. It must be nerve wracking to be a girl at the moment. One green, headed for the boys, and one waited her turn for the girls. He watched the large green with the boys.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The queen was looking hard. People were getting jostled by the young queen. Emkin wrinkled her brows. She wouldn't get violent if she had trouble finding Hers would she? Of course the alternative being if she couldn't find hers at all and went between. That would be horrible. Oh please, please. It was mostly a non-verbal hope she wouldn't go between.
Kindra stared in horror as the great Queen egg split, limbs at impossible angles, Faranth no ... a deformed Queen was the worst....OH! Kindra stared in open mouthed awe, there were TWO, not one, massive, deformed gold but two perfectly formed dragons of golden hue. Kindra heard the excited shouts of some of the people in the stands but she didn't really register them. She was still in shock over twin dragons emerging from one egg, it was surely the stuff of legends of the furture, a seemingly fitting end for Yirath, to have borne the egg that this miracle hatched from. She followed their progress and got out of the way as they played among the female candidates, those wings and claws flailing but she was also afraid of interrupting them so, despite herself, shed backed off a little, letting the two play.
Her heart pounded in her chest as they began to search, everytime one looked in the general direction of her, her stomach turned into knots, suddenly the responsibility that would come with these two very clear in her mind and she was afraid she wasn't going to be ready for what came. Looking up at Yirath, at her pain and suffering, she wondered if she was ready even for a Dragon, but she held her head high as she waited, just the Golden dragons were left... wait no, two greens hatched, one truly massive too. Four dragons.... no, three, one of the Golds had found Hers among them and Kindra felt a stab of jealousy, the feeling twisting her stomach but she would not back down yet, there was still one gold left, it could be for her.
Keela was very much amused. Not because of anything going on down on the Sands, but because her silly dragon was upset about the giant green down on the Sands.
I am not upset! the green replied defensively. Just because she's a little big coming out of the egg doesn't mean she'll be able to rival my build.
A little big? Taith-love, I'd have guessed that egg to be a brown. She's huge. She could almost see her dragon puffing up irritably at this.
We're still better. >|
The green-rider simply smiled. That was never disputed. Just go back to enjoying the Hatching.
Come on Ana. We must say hello to my clutch mates. Hello there! It is I, Malath. Everyone should just relax and see. Malath trilled happily. The green seemed to have a carefree look as she nosed her way to a bucket. Do not mind. It is my turn to eat!
Analyssa smiled as she walked up to the other newly Impressed. Of course, she knew a couple of faces from her several Turns at Benden and waved here and there. Looking around, she wanted to find the boy Falawny and his blue dragon. Ja'syn would be happy for them. "Hello, hello. Congratulations to all of us. My name's Analyssa and that striking green is Malath."
Ever confident and ever friendly, she made her way to Malath to watch her green's eating. Once her belly was full, they would be able to truly meet and greet.
A few other hatchlings impressed, and it looked like the golden egg was getting close as well. Though, Kahar's.. or rather K'har's attention soon directed towards the brown that seemed to be approaching him. The young dragon looked a little uncertain, but he soon noticed that he was coming right for him. His hopes lifted up, though for a moment, he froze as the brown got up to place his claws onto his shoulders.
Immediately, a sense of relief washed over the teen. Grinning widely as he realized what his meant, he suddenly reached out and hugged Heth while he was still on his hind legs.
"Yes! And now I'm with you. You're not getting rid of me anytime soon," he smiled, feeling joy swelling up inside. Though, as he said this, he noticed some movement behind Heth. Twin golds! That was amazing! He didn't even think something like that was possible, but there it was happening!
"Wow... they're beautiful!"
Heth looked back again to see his golden sisters. He felt a great sense of happiness for them as well, but it was hard to really focus on much else considering he was really hungry right about now.
he said while nudging K'har affectionately. He released the boy's shoulders so he could stand on all fours once more before waiting for His to lead.
"Yes, of course. Let's go!" was the excited reply he got before K'har started to jog over towards the meat table. There was a moment of hesitation in the young brown, but he too started to bound after His. He was ravenous after all.
Roscoe was pretty sure that the hatching was all but over for him - the surprise of the twin golds had been..shocking but in a good way and once he'd gotten over that and noticed that the two golds were accompanied by two greens he was all but certain that his wasn't in this clutch. He was fine with that really, there was always next time and despite Yirath's untimely end...the two youngsters on the sands proved that there would indeed be a next time.
Subtle as that headshake from K'en was, B'nen had caught it--and knew it well, as he'd oft been on the receiving end of his twin's scoldings. Scolding his dragon already? Perhaps Stromath was just being a bit of a killjoy. He was amused his vague 'prediction' of a male greenrider seemed to be on track, though that second gold had best choose Hers so the other green could get on with things as well. They all had to be as hungry as Gneisth had been...
F'law and his blue were keeping themselves well separated from the main group as they could. There was already a large number in the clutch, and two more unexpecteds had shown up. Zurith tilted his head as he heard Malath introducing herself around.
Lilah had watched the twin golds hatching with quiet awe. She was one to be prepared for bad surprises, not good ones, so she was rather taken aback by the latter sort. Regardless, far from being jealous - seriously, the last thing the Weyr needed was her as a potential leader - she was mostly just happy she was already off the Sands and couldn't be jostled around so.
At Orthoth's latest outburst, Rhodonth trilled and confirmed, Yes, I do! Love all of you~!
With the terrible end to the Hatching looming, she found it necessary to re-emphasize this. Again.
Why was Hers moving around so much? The gold trumpeted and forced her way through the ranks, looking, looking and, eventually. She spotted hers between and beyond a pair of gawking candidates, both obviously hoping she'd spotted them. Same with everyone else around, she supposed, but Hers was there. Right there. Finally. Kindramine, Come here. Your Suunath has been looking for you! She remained where she was, eyes locked on Kindra's as she waited, head proud, Let us join Kheth and eat! There was a wave of relief that swept the grounds as the gold Impressed and all gazes turned once more to the remaining two hatchlings. The last two dragons before Yirath would take her leave. Such a tense, bittersweet time. The green among the boys was walking along, occasionally rubbing up against one or another, a soft coo of appreciation a she melted past, like a ripple in the water. Once, she even invited a boy to stroke her, recognizing the want in his gaze even if his heart was not meant for her. Now that the gold had chosen, the other green began to walk among the girls, searching the disheveled ranks with curiosity.
The mantra was "Hi! I'm Malath" and food. But once the little green spotted her blue brother, she practically bowled him over in her excitement. Eyes a whirl of blue-green as she came to a stop and practically bugled at him. HELLO ZURITH! It is MALATH. And my rider Ana.
Analyssa chuckled as she moved towards Falawny. She didn't recall if they had ever spoken but that really didn't matter now, did it? "Hello there! Good job Impressing. My name is Analyssa but you can call me Lyssa. Malath seems to be happy to meet your dragon. You might not know me but my brother was sure you would Impress."
