poke mattix Astra blanched when the thing went to give her a hug, but then it tripped and fell into the water floating away. Watching it go, she felt a little sad for the poor minipet, but did not dwell on it long as Julius was raring to go. Ryu was also ready to get the course over and done with, the shenlong growing tired and angry at these stupid nautical thingies Quote: Walking forward the sandy path was easy; thankfully, after the last Nautical, no more showed up to bother the student and her Minipet partners. Soon, it soon became apparent that the fog was thinning, and even Julius was beginning to move faster, tugging Astra and Ryu along; it could smell Master Malcolm again! The sandy path soon gave way to concrete ground, and Astra would see a table in front of her. A table filled with cups and bowls of hot chocolate, for students and minipets respectively, as well as some towels. Malcolm was seated at the side of the table, on a chair, while several students (Junko, Siddie, Jericho, West, Ren, Jove, Gabrian and LW) were littered around the table, relaxing. It didn't look like they just went through a class at all. "Good job on finishing, Astra," He nodded as he wrote something down on the paper attached to the clipboard in his hands, "Go ahead and take a cup and bowl for yourself and your Minipet. You can let go of Julius now... Glad he was of help." Julius was eager for Astra to let go, evident from the way he was tugging on the leash; it seems like his brother had made it there before him... Stupid Kite. Stupid small winged student and her student minipet... They totally slowed him down! Humph... Luckily, he wasn't the last of the triplets to arrive. Dist: 150 out of 150 <- WHOOO! Christof and CalderDragain The tentacle seemed positively delighted at tickling the poor Patchwork, but when Calder gave it a swift kick, its grip loosened enough for Christof to slid down to the ground (or Kelpi) just below. Having lost its victim, the tentacle moved back, just out of reach, before vanishing back into where it came from. Enemy HP: KO'ED, BUT JUST BARELY. Damage to Christof's Minipet: NA Damage to Calder's Minipet: NA *Remember to quote this post!* Dist: 47 out of 150 <- MOVE MOVE MOVE! For enduring a horrible tickling session, I bet Christof wants to go ZOOM even more now, right? The highest value will be taken; roll 1 100-sided dice! Calder Rolled: 75 Chris Rolled: 55 Christof was still gasping for air as he landed on the Kelpie's back, frantically grabbing onto his neck as the beast took off, his eyes closed. No more tentacles, please no more tentacles, just get to the end...! Scruff gave a yip, happy to also be freed once more and bearing his leechy rider, he took off as well after the Kelpie and Igor.

"True," Dasher agreed. He understood not controlling what pets a master wanted. There was a crab living in his master's room right now, and while the dumb thing walked around in underwear and never presented itself to her, it still existed. He didn't understand it.
Dasher tried to comprehend the complicated explanation of a test, protection, and will to do something too; but found it much better just to not think about it. "Well, we're still conscious," he said in an effort to sound optimistic about whatever was going on. As the fog became more prominent, Dasher was thankful he had a glowing nose. It helped somewhat, unless he was trying to hide -- then it was utterly useless. He couldn't help but feel bad for Quill though. "You alright?" he asked.
Colette was paying attention to the path, still looking out for any more Nauticals, and generally ignoring her two companions and their noises of chatter. Nothing bad had come of it between them, so she figured it was normal; but when Quill started to softly whine, the Grim Reaper took notice. Whining was never good.
Looking at Quill as he pawed, Colette asked, "D'aw. Are you jealous?" Dasher rolled his eyes at his owner. "I can carry you too," she told the pup before kneeling down and awkwardly picking him up. It wasn't too easy when you couldn't see the object. "Maybe we'll move faster." Colette tried to power walk with the two pets, but how effective that method is was unknown to her. She just knew there was no way Barth finished yet and she would keep going.

Apparently her gamble at throwing the candy paid off as the nautical was happily distracted by the FEAR candy. LW sighed and checked on both minipets, giving Davy an extra pat after Gabe gave him his own FEAR candy. Poor Davy. Those...Jack damned nautical's had it out for him or something! She really hoped that they were right there, at the end of the path. LW wanted to be dry again. Or at least out of such unpredictable water!
And then, they were there! The end of the course. The she-wolf sighed and leaned forward to hug the nix. "Look, Gabe. We made it! Go us!" She released her hold on him, sliding off his back to swim over to the ladder. Carefully, she climbed up this and blinked at the professor. They really had been the only ones to attempt that path? Her tail flicked some of the water off before she stepped away from Professor Malcolm to shake her hair and tail out. What? She was a canine! "Thanks, Professor." LW smiled and waited until Gabrian had climbed up as well and shifted back before snagging his arm and tugging him towards the hot chocolate.
"I think we all deserve some of this." LW grabbed her mimic from her shirt and offered him one of the bowls sitting on the table. He all but fell in it and LW snickered, grabbing another one to offer to Davy. "You definitely deserved this, charmer."
Glancing around, she noticed what...looked to be a student shaped indent. And other students nearyby as well. Was that Ren and Jove too? Well, at least they had gotten safely through their path. She turned back to Gabe and gave him a high five. "We're an awesome pair, aren't we?" LW teased, though they did make a good pair.

Thankfully, no more attacks followed the first one, but a thick fog soon settled in around them; according to the map they were given, this meant that the finish line was near. However, due to the fog, they could no longer see the other students in the class; in fact, they could only see each other and their Minipets.
As they kept walking forward, the fog started to thin... And a Nautical came into view. It was the Forever Alone Nautical; having slipped and tumbled back into the water after trying to give a student a hug, it had painstaking swum back to where they had parted... Only to find the ghoul gone. As Riley and Malodore neared it, it would look up with the saddest expression ever.
... Perhaps you should take it with you to the finish line?

The cool water splashing on their faces was rather enjoyable, if they disregarded the whole 'kidnapped by tentacles' part... ... Beside the table sat Malcolm, who offered both of them a small smile as they moved out of the fog, "Good job on finishing... Go grab yourself and your minipet a drink. You deserve it." When the fog thinned somewhat, and the Nautical presented itself... the plague doctor gave it a sidelong glance. Given the fog, it was almost tempting to dismiss it as a hallucination... but, again. Not the island. .... Why did it look so sad? For that matter, how did it look so sad? It was just a mass of tentacles! Sheesh. Malodore sighed. "Well? Shall we take a sample?" it asked Riley, pointing at the Nautical with its free hand.

Then.. that thing appeared.
Her leg was already tilted back, ready to kick it away, when Malodore said the magic words.
Ah. A brilliant idea, as usual, dear. And here I was about to waste this opportunity by punting it away. Let us collect it for further study, then.

[[Calder and Chrsitof]] Calder was hesitant about the fog, and while he was racing as best he could, he was starting to slow down, clearly uncomfortable about entering the fog. Usually fog was comforting to him. In the rivers and swamps, fog was a natural cover for his kind and pleasant, but ever since the island event, he had started to associate it with danger.
Ears back, he started to move slowly along, blowing from his nostrils more and eyes wide as he looked about. His body tensed and twitched under Chrsitof. Now he did poorly with a horse tongue, but there was at least a tune he could hum in his throat.
Then, whispering, he started to speak in his own native tongue. It was a series of melodic grunts and low, moaning whines that floated in the fog as he slowly moved. To Christof, it had no meaning. To him, he was singing a lullaby.
" Little Eachann, Little Eachann,
Watch out for the stones.
The currents quick,
The bottom slick,
And will shatter all your bones.
Little Eachann, Little Eachann,
It’s not safe to go out and roam.
The meadows are dry,
There are dangers nearby,

Calder continued to speak in little whines and grunts in tune to the song.

Soon, they walked into a foggy area where they could not see much in front or behind them; the sound of water splashing in the lane beside them was the only thing they would be able to hear as they walked on... However, there is a finish line to every journey, and the fog soon lifted. Ahead, there were a couple of students on the floor space around a table. The table itself had cups and bowls of hot chocolate on it, as well as several towels. Malcolm was seated on a chair beside the table. "Well done... And while its important to protect those dear to you, don't lose your head over it," He nodded at Whisper, offering her a smile, before gesturing for her to release the leash, "I'm glad to see that Kite was of use!" 'Master Malcolm!' Kite barked, tugging on the leash he was attached to, prompting Whisper to let go; he's home to his master... And he's first too, out of his brothers! This 'Whisper' ghoul makes for a good temporary partner! Dist: 150 out of 150 <- Whisper's reaction to her Minipet being attacked granted her a pass to the end of the path without any further attacks!
The walk to the end wasn't very long, but to Whisper it felt like it was going on forever. She was so distracted by watching Curse grow stronger in her arms that she wasn't paying much attention to her surroundings. Occasionally she would lift him closer to her face so she could rub hers against his, showing she was still there and still cared. She stopped when she heard Malcolm voice. She knew she had reached the end, and that they could rest.
Whisper let the leash go, allowing Kite to return to the Professor. "Thank you for letting me borrow him, he was a big help. I...don't know what would have happened if he wasn't with me."
When he had commented on keeping her cool, she looked away in shame. She had done the one thing she had been fighting for so long. She let her anger surface; the anger that her father had always tried to get from her; the anger she resented. It was embarrassing, and it was definitely a low point for her.
She sat at the table, Curse still in her arms, and grabbed some of the hot chocolate. Perhaps some of its deliciousness could take the edge off of her shame.

Christof and CalderChristof didn't understand what the strange noises the kelpie was making meant, but he did huddle down lower as the fog curled around them. He swallowed thickly, and as though instinctively picking up on the same train of thought as his friend, he began to hum. He didn't know any nursery rhymes... He didn't think he ever had been a baby, and if he had, Dr. Fell wasn't the sort to sing gently to chase the bad feelings away. Generally, if he was feeling terrified, it was part of an experiment. Fog meant trouble. It meant not thinking clearly. It meant bad things. That much he knew. But they weren't on the Island. They were in a classroom. He was in control. And that's what mattered. Steeling his resolve, he gave Calder a sharp kick, urging him forward. They were almost there!
