"Something bothering you, necromancer?"
He gave no reply.
She took a step forward, torn black skirts sliding along the rocks.

Kaok's senses almost disappeared entirely except for sight, and even then it was selective. She tried not to see the thing as Emma, but still watched warily as she approached and spoke to the sorcerer.Someone told me theres a girl out there

Remus stood by, waiting for some sort of signal from Hrothbert to strike. The Imperator desperately wanted to fight the abomination. He wanted to feel it squish under Perseverance. Yet he didn't move.

The telepathic message was not a request. It was a command, woven with magic and unable to be fought.

Remus was glad to spring into action. With a furious yell, the Roman leaped at the foe with Perseverance raised over his head, ready to turn the walking corpse into paste.

The form of Emma's doppelganger rippled as Kaok and Remus charged, trying to grow claws, talons, something more suited to battle, but it was cut off by a rapier slash and the sweep of Perseverance. It staggered back, viscous, black fluid pouring from its wounds. An incoherent snarl of rage issued forth from its hanging jaw.

There was little left of it once the Imperial couple had finished, and the remnants quickly degenerated into something unrecognizable as ever having lived.
"Thank you. I'm sorry."
Hrothbert was sitting on a rocky outcrop a few feet away, head in his hands and normally straight-backed posture slouched, as if he was trying to vanish into a hole inside himself.

She, herself, had avoided fighting the Battledome the times that Romulus had hijacked that shell of Remus, opting to watch from the spectator's position. It was a bad, bad feeling.Someone told me theres a girl out there

There was a gnawing emptiness in his chest, rapidly filling up with pain he had tried to keep at bay.
The sorcerer looked old in that moment. Humans were not designed to live as long as he had.

The Imperator noticed the sorceror's haggard look that he seemed to have for a moment. Remus knew what that was like. His first human shells had a genetic flaw that caused them to age and die within a few weeks.
But Hrothbert didn't have another shell to download into. He needed to reunite with Emma...and soon.
