Lin looked up mildly surprised, she shouldn't have been in terms of possible profession, but the chances of her choosing a place where Sir Gilead's family lived was surprising.
She chuckled, "Well that's unexpected."
Honeslty she only decided this because she had never gone into a wood workshop before, though had seen the box that her father had brought home from the Southland for Trisha.

"To be fair," Sir Gilead chuckled, "everything about my sister is unexpected. She had a good opportunity to marry, but she passed it up so that she could work on her own."
"Sir Gilead's sister, Lanaea, is the only family he has left," Amora confided to Lin. "But she won't let him take care of her. She insists on taking care of herself."
Sir Gilead smiled. "And she is quite capable of doing so," he nodded. "Though I do wish she weren't always alone."

Lin had not been expecting that (though she knew it wasn't so surprising). Though Sir Gilead's sister sounded like someone she could relate with. She grinned not at all bothered by this idea of having a chance to marry, she probably just wasn't in love.
Love makes you do weird things as her Dad always said.
"You mean in terms of living by herself," Lin murmured.
She was sure in running a shop she wasn't alone, there were people who would come in, but at the end of the day... but then again for all Lin knew maybe Lanaea didn't feel alone.

Sir Gilead nodded as they approached the shop - recognizable by the intricate carving of the sign - and opened the door for the two girls.
"Not for safety, mind you," he added, "but just because being alone isn't good for anyone."
Inside the shop, there were a few customers looking around at the wares, mostly at the furniture - a dining set, it looked like, with a table and set of six chairs, all beautifully carved, as well as a bookcase. The shop was different from most in that, rather than having a display area and counter, and the back of the shop cut off from view, the entire first floor was open, with the display all around the front, a beautiful desk in one corner (obviously not for sale, as it was covered in paperwork), and most of the space, easily the size of a small house, was the work space of the artist.
Lanaea herself was seated on a stool in the working area of the room, leaning back against the wall and wittling away at a piece of wood in her hand. She was keeping an eye on her customers, waiting for them to be ready for her.

Well with that sort of reasoning Lin would have to agree. The moment Lin stepped in she was in awe of her surroundings, Gaia really really did not have this sort of thing. Sure there were wonderfully carved things back home, but they were all of Eastern design so to see something just as intricately designed but in a different style was incredible to her.
Her parents she thought should shop in the Four Lands, she was pretty sure her father had quite large nest piling up. Despite his intital claim all those years ago, he was just as happy to see Haven thrive and those jackasses (as he called the slavers) wiped from the face of the land. So he had never touched any of his shares, in fact it was easy to forget that he had any.
"Wow...." she eyed the bookshelf.
It smelled of saw dust, wood, polish it was a comforting smell.

At Lin's soft exclamation, Lanaea looked up to see the three who were just coming into the shop. Her eyes lit up and she set her work aside, rising to her feet and skipping towards them all.
"Gilead!" she exclaimed, sounding almost childish as she threw her arms around her brother. She was clearly an adult, and like all elven adults her age was therefore indeterminable, but one almost had to question how old she was. But was most startling was also most noticeable only when the two were standing together: while Sir Gilead's hair was pitch black, Lanaea's was a bond so gold that it seemed to shimmer even indoors.
Amora giggled, watching the brother and sister embrace. It was rare that she saw any of the guards outside of duty, and it always amused her to see them acting like themselves.

Lin wondered absently why she had never questioned elven genetics before, while her science wasn't her best subject, Lin knew enough to know that was unusual. Though not surprising if one ever looked at Ulani and Ulrich's children and their grandchildren.
She grinned watching the two as her thoughts jumped from one random thing to another. It settled back on genetics though, probably because she thought it was neat the way they would still get elves with blond hair. Lin was pretty sure if they had been humans, blonde wouldn't show up until the second generation of Eastland elves.
The again Lin didn't know why she would care... Seconds didn't follow rules of genetics neither.... in fact she came to the conclusion that creatures who followed these so-called rules of dormint and ressessive genes were the weird ones.

Sir Gilead chuckled at Lanaea and turned to face Lin, one hand on the woman's back as if nudging her forward.
"Lin Winters," he said softly and warmly, "my half sister, Lanaea. Lanaea, Lin Winters, guest of their Majesties."
The woman smiled warmly at Lin and bowed her head respectfully. "It is a pleasure to meet you," she said cheerfully. "And I thank you for bringing my brother here, he never comes to visit me anymore."

Being thrown off balance didn't prevent Lin from bowing her head in return, "As it is for me to meet you," she smiled warmly, "In truth it was by chance, I have wanted to see inside a woodworking shop for sometime."
Lin had honestly been surprised to know that Sir Gilead had a half sister, but she wasn't going to question it. Besides that would be rude, and for all she knew it could have been like what happened to Serenity having lost her husband.

Lanaea smiled at Lin. "I understand," she said softly. "It's one of the reasons why I designed my shop the way I did. Because people were always curious to know how I make my wares ... and because I love to work with the wood so much I don't know if I would be much good at leaving it alone during the day to take care of my customers."
She giggled softly. "But come, you should take a look around. If you have any questions, any questions at all, do not hesitate to ask. I am quite open."

"Thank you," Lin replied softly.
She wasn't sure where to look first, there was a lot to look and a lot of detail put into those large works. So she was a bit at a lost of where to start.

In the half of the room that was reserved for completed works, a pair of statues seemed to be almost protecting the rest. They were a life-sized and very realistic set of elven guards, fully armed and armoured, swords drawn and raised. There were various sets of shelves, tables, desks, chairs and stools, and some of the shelves had rows of smaller figures on them: kings and queens, knights and soldiers, craftsmen and women, adults and children ... if one were to examine the entire collection, one could expect to find almost an entire civilization.
Amora turned to Lin and smiled. "Anything catch your eye?" she asked brightly.

Lin looked around there was a lot, and while the chairs and other furniture were interesting, her interest was really caught by the smaller works. Like the figurines or the boxes.
Well the figurines more, she had never seen a doll anywhere besides the Borderlands and they were brought from home, but to her a figurine was the closest thing to one. So she couldn't help but look at them.
"You could make a town with those."

Amora smiled at Lin's comment. "Pengolodh already has," she giggled. "Perhaps when we get back, you should ask if you can see his collection. When he was younger, he used to spend hours setting them up just so ... especially the soldiers. I think his tutor also used them to help teach him about some of the battles in some of the wars."
Pengolodh had never enjoyed his academic lessons, but he didn't seem to mind when they had visual aids. Still, he prefered his physical training much more.

Lin mused looking at them, that would certainly be useful to know how battles were fought. She had seen Adan's collection, though his collection of everything and anything the mind could come up with and then some.
"I should," Lin chuckled, "That sounds really neat."
