"Hmmm... maybe when Mom has her baby she should visit...." Lin murmured thoughtfully.
Of course no one knew exactly when Kara was due, and could only guess since the Borderlands had severely messed up the timeline.
"Yea I kind of got that impression," Lin laughed a bit, "And that would be great Aranhil, I'm sure they'll visit the city as well. I can't see them not doing so..."

Aranhil grinned at Lin. "If she has the energy," he winked. "Obviously I've never been through the ordeal myself, but I have many new fathers coming here for celebration gifts and the like, and they're always exhausted and have stories of their wives to tell ..."
"Granted," Earendil pointed out, "she'll have it easier than most as a first-time mother ... with so many other children to help her out with the work and everything."
"True enough," Aranhil nodded. He turned back to Lin. "If you would extend an invitation to the prince and princess on my behalf, I would be most honoured," he smiled warmly at her. "I shall do what I can to come and visit them, myself, but with the shop to look after ..."
He gestured around him.

Lin only had to glance, it was pretty much the same... well except the stuff was different, more or less. Of course as things were sold they were replaced with something else. That was probably the coolest part about being here rather than Gaia, here... there was never two pieces that were exactly the same.
She smiled at the thought remember the necklace she wore.
"Good point, of course this place needs to have an eye kept on it," Lin agreed, "I'll tell them that."

"Thank you," Aranhil smiled warmly at Lin, his dark eyes shining brightly.
Earendil leaned a bit closer to Aranhil. "Any more trouble since Lamthanc?" he asked quietly. "No one else has attempted to steal from you?"
Aranhil shook his head. "I still cannot believe that he is of your blood," he murmured. "How could one of the Aldrich family have become so tainted?"

"It was from here?" Lin murmured in surprised.
She kept her voice soft, not wanting anyone else who might walk in over hear, after all this wasn't exactly a crowning moment in the life of the family.
She looked around a bit, in more than one Lin shouldn't have been surprised, but still.... honestly it was like begging to be caught. Though stealing from the guy who had close contact with the family was certainly the icing on the cake.

Aranhil nodded sombrely at Lin. "Three of my best pieces," he murmured, "and not a shred of remorse. I don't understand how anyone could be like that ... I remember Prince Riordan when he was growing up, he was one of the proudest of the Aldrich children ... and the most well-behaved. To see him come to this, to see him raising his children like this ... it is as shocking as the theft itself."
"It was the first theft from elves, by elves, in over one hundred years," Earendil confided to Lin quietly. "By nature, we are a peace-loving race ... but there are a few bad ones in each race."

Lin couldn't help though wonder what it was like.. to have Riordan as a father. She probably didn't want to know the answer to that quesiton actually. Though she did have to admit it was odd, but then again, the very fact Riordan turned out to not be so well behaved as people thought was odd in itself.
"Oh...." Lin murmured thoughtfully, "It just seems so odd.... I mean here... the three best pieces... it's almost like.... he was asking to be caught."

"I think he was," Aranhil said softly, sadly. "At the trial, when he told Her Majesty who he was ... he sounded triumphant, as if he wanted to ... I don't know, find a place for himself within the royal family, or else smear Her Majesty's name, her honour ..."
"I wasn't there," Earendil murmured, "but I heard the same."

Lin personally would have been embarassed, but she supposed there was no account for taste for someone like that. Still, it did make her wonder... but that was probably because it was in her nature to wonder.
"That's sad.... and confusing, but I think more sad."
It would have been different if he had done something really great and then come here, but to steal just to announce to everyone who he was, well that was just stupid.

"Well," Earendil murmured, "if his aim was to smirch the family name, then it made sense - his actions. Not that I agree with them in any way. He probably feels as if he and his father have been wronged somehow ..."
"But at least we don't have to worry about him anymore," Aranhil smiled faintly. "He has been dealt with fairly and justly. If anything, I think Her Majesty's honour has been increased with the incident, not decreased."

Lin didn't really see why he thought he and his father were wronged. Perhaps because she didn't really understand it at all.
"That's good to know, it's not fair to her," Lin murmured.
Besides if it were her, provided her mother hadn't done the same, she would have been pissed at her father, not her greatgrandmother (if she had one). After all he was the one sleeping around.
Of course her parents were married, and they were going to have a baby have nearly a year of being married, so she was all good.
"And don't worry," Lin told Earendil, "I'm sure... that's the last of it."
At least she hoped so otherwise Roridan deserved a swift kick in the... rear.

"I hope so," Earendil chuckled in agreement. "If it's not, I may have to pay my uncle an unwelcome visit - accompanied, of course, by several others."
"Don't be rash," Aranhil warned the prince. "I won't deny that Prince Riordan needs sorting out, but his sons are the ones causing the trouble so far, not him."
"But he's obviously the root cause," Earendil pointed out. He sighed. "Though I suppose that if we did do anything to him, no matter how just it is, his sons would only feel more wronged ..."
Aranhil nodded.

Funny she had been thinking he needed a good kick, amazing how they thought alike.
"And you don't know if he even has a role in their lives, I mean..." Lin scratched the back of her head, "He wasn't doing it because he loved any one of those women or to have a family... it is possible he just supported them in necessities but not in well.. a father sort of way."
When she thought of it that way, she sort of felt sorry for Riordan's sons, it's not like they asked to have him for a father.
"I mean.... does he even love his sons?"

Earendil and Aranhil exchanged a glance, and then both men faced Lin and shrugged.
"If he doesn't take care of them, doesn't love them," Earendil pointed out, "why would they be so protective of him? Why would they do the things they do in an attempt to honour themselves, or dishonour Ninako? No one has seen him since he was rejected by the family ... who knows where he is, or what he's doing ... or how he treats his sons, or his mistresses."
The bell over the door tinkled, announcing a visitor, and Aranhil held out one hand to the two of them. "Customer," he murmured. "You might want to keep it down a bit." He smiled at them. "I'll be right back."
And he slid out from behind the counter to go greet his customer.

That was true.... Lin mused and she nodded at this slowly. Personally she wouldn't have, but that was her and not them.
"Who knows.... after all no one knows..." Lin murmured, "But...."
Well it didn't matter she decided, Atalya had her family, which was becoming a very large family indeed once more. People who were going to or were doing great things because that was just the way they were.
"Your Ninako has all of you, and that matters the most, and everyone is doing amazing, or had done really amazing things."
And so was Earendil, they were going to sail after all and maybe they should make maps too of where they've been. Now wouldn't that be interesting to take back.
