A man and woman strolled down the hallway hand in hand. On the walk from the library, Anna had nod let Pyralis get away with a simple nod. He had had to promise his love that he would indeed take a nap after leaving her to her work. He had just whispered something in her ear when he noticed the student. Putting a respectful, professional distance between himself and Anna, Pyralis stopped and turned to Anna. "My A'mael, you work alreay awaits you. I shall see you very soon." With a tired smile, he left her side and walked back down the way they had came to his own office.

You have lovely tact. Anna looked at him lovingly as he left her side. She knew it was just a tad manipulative, but knowing he would promise her nearly anything in the world because of his nature, she had only let him go once he had promised he would take care of himself. While she couldn't say that she was looking out for her own health, his at least she wouldn't see go to waste.

Her cheeks blushed as her eyes turned to the student waiting in front of her door. Immediately Anna put on her very best professional smile, even if inside she was still hurting terribly because of the ball's horrific ordeal.

"I'm so sorry to have kept you waiting!" she said as she fished the key out of her pocket. The elf gently motioned for Elliot to move aside as she slipped it into the lock, pushed the door open, and revealed her office. "Please, step inside and we'll get right on things."

And so the day had begun. Tasks still had to be performed, and the world had to continue turning.

"Right..."
Elliot mumbled, scooting back at once to shrink against the back wall and keep out of her way as the door slid easily open before him, feeling his insides shrivel just a little bit.
Great... Right... Well, now he couldn't just give this up as a bad job; so maybe he should have 'accidentally' forgotten his letter in his bedroom door back home.
"No problem, Ma'am."
He shrugged absentmindedly, a guarded expression hovering across the lightly freckled face.
He took one step tentatively forward before falling back again, shifting his gaze from where it'd been comfortably resting on the floor to the woman's face, a small frown skating along the bridge of his lips.
He seemed to pause, deliberating on the spot before easing through the doorway to stand ackwardly in the closest possible area to the door that would still be considered 'in the office'.

"Please, have a seat here." Anna motioned to the cushy chair in front of her desk where they could meet face-to-face as she herself sat behind the desk. "If you would like some tea or something small to eat, I do have a bit of a selection here."

Ah, it was almost comforting to be back in the swing of things, so to speak. Someone needed her to welcome them into a new environment. But, she knew that eventually she would have to impress upon him what had happened, and the risk he was taking at coming to the Grove.

That would come at it's own pace, though. Anna could brace herself for that discussion.

"No thank you."
Elliot muttered, hesitating for a second or two before slipping lightly onto the chair before her desk, slinging one arm down to rest his duffel bag with a low eminating plunk on the floor beside him, glancing up absentmindedly at the woman seated before her and adding as an after thought.
"I mean, I don't want anything- but if you do, that's cool by me..."
He shrugged, feeling his cheeks burn crimson for just a moment, quickly averting his gaze before daring to refocus on her again, trying to look more like a person than the unmoving block of wood he felt like at the present time.
Him...
Strangers...
Chairs...
Not the BEST combination in the world, in his books, at the very least. But whaaaatever, he probably shouldn't be the one doing the complaining; even if it was merely inwardly.

"That's quite alright." Anna smiled before going on. "Well, let's just start then, shall we? My name is Miss Annabelle Souris." Always the polite introduction. "May I see your letter of acceptance?"

If Anna was coming off as uninterested, she would apologize for that later. Her mind was too preoccupied with the task of explaining the dangers, to somehow formulate a gentle way of saying this place was not safe. But, she realized suddenly, would she really have to explain? Surely the other students who were at the ball would tell this boy of what they saw, of the terrible creature who appeared, and of the innocent girl who died despite all the efforts of staff to save her. No one outside of the Academy would believe the tale, but inside, it was the terrible truth.

Anna resolved to not say anything. If Elliot wanted to leave once he knew, then he would. Perhaps he already did, and was coming anyhow.

(Happy Valentines day. ^-^)

"Is your name really 'Miss', or is it just a habbit to add the word in front of the rest of your name...?" Elliot mused, adding as an after-thought even as he began to comb swiftly through his forever technology-cluttered pockets, "I'm Elliot, it's nice to meet you." He didn't bother with a last name, eventually locating the letter and holding it in her directing as if it were some sort-of time bomb...
That, or he was just an over grown seven year old playing hot potatoe and DETERMINED not to get stuck with it once the time ran out.
PostPosted: Sat Feb 14, 2009 3:31 pm

(yup, Happy V-Day!)

Anna tilted her head at him curiously. "Well, from where I come from, it is customary to place any sort of title in front of your name... 'Miss' is just a simple one that implies that I'm a young, single woman, I suppose." But Anna's explanation dropped off once the envelope was placed firmly in her grasp. After scanning it's contents to make sure it was credible, she smiled and gave a smart little nod.

"Alright now. Time to get down to business. I’m... sure you understand that there has been a terrible accident here, and that you must exercise caution while on school grounds.” Anna's eyes filled with sorrow, though she pressed on and began to pull out a large envelope from a drawer he couldn’t see.

Anna searched inside briefly to make sure that everything was there before handing it over to him. “You’ll be staying in the Oak dorm, in room 109. Please don’t alter your room in any radical way while dorming.” It had never happened while she had been there, but she always saw fit to just put it out there. “Maple dorms are off-limits unless you have been invited. But, if you are, you cannot stay overnight, just as you cannot have any overnight female guests in Oak. Keystone dorms are to be treated in the same fashion.”

Anna stopped in case he had any questions before continuing on.

"Oh!" Elliot muttered, something apparently clicking into place behind the otherwise edgily bored eyes, a flicker of interest finally manging to push itself firmly into place.
"Is that what you were distracted about when you were in the hall? Is that why you weren't in your office? A terrible 'accident', or whatever it is you said..?"
He raised one thin eyebrow, shoving the newly obtained envelope messily into his already packed-to-bursting duffel bag without bothering to so much as glance at its contents, never allowing his eyes to stray from her face as he ran over what exactly a terrible incident would be considered at an academy.
There was the usual 'everyone got a d' of course; but that didn't exactly fit with the warning she'd given.
Maybe an army of escaped genetically mutated lab rats who started going around biting people and giving of radioactivity with each n**..?
Then again, perhaps a masked killer was masqurading as a student and dancing around, shooting down everyone in their path..?
Maybe, even, one of the teachers was secretly apart of the mafia, and slowly ticking off staff and students one by one for their evil mind washing process and the horrid fate of wasting away in the back of a Halmark Gift card place, with nothing left of their lives bu to think up cheesy sayings..?

Curiosity, if nothing else, was one of very few dominant emotions he held within his general personality make-up. And, unfortunately enough, the one that tended to run out of check the most often.... Aort frim his imagintation, of course. That /somtimes/ tended to get a little out there too...
But only sometimes.
Ooooonly sometimes.

It hit her heart rather hard to hear him ask so curiously about what had just happened. She hadn't realized that Kaien wouldn't have gotten the word out so quickly that this boy would have known about it all before coming. But, she couldn't tell him what had occurred, not when he didn't know what types of other students existed here. Elliot would have to learn some other way, after he had come to terms with a new reality all together.

"Ah, yes." She spoke carefully. "The incident occurred last night, and I'm afraid we're all a bit ragged from the experience. The student who fell victim... is no longer with us."

But to keep from having to answer any specifics, Anna went with the new opening she had unexpectedly created in the conversation.
"There is a Gatehouse on campus that is strictly off-limits to students. That rule, too, is set in place for your own safety." While Anna didn't sound cold in her deliverance, there was a soft command given with each word. Please, she thought. Please just stay safe.
"You can leave, though, to the town of Moliné for uniforms, supplies, and food. It's a lovely place..."

"Why is there a Gatehouse?" Elliot asked, veering away from THAT touchy subject to the next one of interest, "I don't intend to go there, I'm just... Curious. What would be the point of a Gatehouse near a school, I'm guessing there wouldn't exactly be many large estates out around here, right? And if they were, they'd be the schoold property, wouldn't they? My my father's father used to work in an old fashioned gatehouse, and he told me their main purpose was to keep people out of an area, or to check who goes through- like an off-limits bridge, a building, or a town. But any of those would only make sense if there was either a body of water around the gatheouse or a gate blocking off a town to stop people from getting TO."
The puzzled frown deepened slightly for just a second, turning down the corners of his mouth before a rare smile was back in place and he laughed, raising one hand to rest behind his head.
"Sorry, Miss Souris, or Miss Anabelle, whichever you prefer. I'm just trying to find a reason to stay... At the school, I mean." He paused, peeking back in the direction of the door for a moment before allowing his attention to slide back to her. "Oh! And before I forget, what's your schools policy on electronics..?"
PostPosted: Sat Feb 14, 2009 4:59 pm

If Anna was supposed to be exasperated, being a school official and all, she surely had no idea. The way Elliot spun off reasons and questions was inspiring, and she couldn't help but keep up with everything he was saying. She couldn't expose the Gate to the Other Realms, but she could comment upon his one statement... that he was trying to find a reason to stay.

Anna leaned forward a bit with a young glint in her eyes. "Electronics are fine so long as they aren't completely dangerous, perform illegal operations, that sort of thing. If it's just a computer or gaming device, you're fine. And Elliot..."

A delicate hand swept some hair behind her pointed ears. Still leaning forward a bit, Anna spoke with a soft determination. There was conviction, like she was uncovering the most amazing secret just for him. It was even shown in her eyes.
"If you stay long enough, and if you really try to meet people and explore these grounds, you will surely find more than enough reasons to stay. I came here with a broken heart, and months later, despite the tragedy that's occurred, I could never dream of leaving."

"Wha-I-uuuuh..." Elliot blinked, feeling like a gaping fool as he lay an unwanted witness to the unheeded blush when it soared up to outline every one of the freckles in his cheeks.
Quickly averting his eyes as if in some sort of attempt to gather his unnaturally befuddled thoughts, the teen paused to gather himself inwardly for a moment before responding in that unnerving tentative voice that DEFINITELY did /not/ belong to him.
"Thanks... I guess.... I THINK."

He grinned, color rising slightly further up with the laugh that escaped his lips before it began to fade back down once again.
"But if you were heart broken, why would you come here to begin with, ma'am? Did you have a choice, another option? Or was it either this or nothing else worth mentioning?" The teeniest of scowls fluttered across his features at these words, no matter how swiftly he attempted to hold it back- and then to shake it off once it managed to acchieve its position- oh how he hated forced things; the 'Do this, or that happens' types of situations, which happened to be the exact reason he was still standing here, a very very veeeeery unwanted 'this or that' situation.
PostPosted: Sat Feb 14, 2009 5:22 pm

She'd never had such a forward student before. And yet... she somehow didn't mind at all.
"I was due to come here anyhow," Anna said, which wasn't a complete lie, as her grandfather had been searching for a teaching position for her even while she was in her relationship with Adrian. It was only towards the end of the relationship that he spoke with Kaien, who conveniently needed someone to work in admissions. It brought her away from her abusive relationship, and into another realm entirely.
Everything worked, though she was sure her grandfather had no idea how it would eventually work so perfectly, practically throwing her into the midst of the love of her life. Just thinking of Pyralis made her smile.

"Let us just say that coming here was something I sorely needed. Everyone needs to get away from it all at times, yes?"

"THAT," Elliot said, leaning back in his chair to glare exaggeratedly at the ceiling, arms crossing themselves across his chest and lips pursing in an almost comic fashion, "I can agree with."

He was up out of the 'pouty' stance in around three seconds, that lively curiosity right back in place; but, for once, the next question that escaped him was actually... Conventional! Boring! Ordinary. (He shuddered at the thought.)
"So, when I leave here, I should go to the..." He deliberated for a second before the name seemed to come back into being within his mind's boundaries, "Oak dorm, right? But where exactly is that..?" He turned in the chair as if seriously expecting to find a big magically flashing sign flying around and stating in big bold letters OAK DORM THIS WAY!
Though, as usual, he was sadly disappointed.
