"He seems to enjoy working on machinery," Daniel said to no one in particular, being left alone on the deck. Retracting the gangplank he hears a a few shot peeps and whistles coming from a coil of rope. walking over he finds the teapot stuck tangled in the cabling.

Chuckling he stoops dow and pulls out his brave little friend. "I never got a chance to thank you for your help. You scared the big mean bird off good!"

Free of the rope the teapot whistles back happily. Daniel fingers the dent in the teapot. the racoon tail and head had been knocked off when the little guy went flying. but this little guy didnt seem to mind. "We really ought to find a name for you..."

Daniel heads back to the hatch, the kettle hoping up to sit on his shoulder. "lets find out waht old Nysth was up to stalking around with an open blade"

HE heads down the corridor towards the voices that could be faintly heard from the med bay. As Daniel nears he finds Eli standing in a dark room next to the Medbay deep in thought.

"What's up Eli?" Though Daniel does not notice his eye with the lense grafted on adjusts for the lack of light allowing moderate vision.

(ooc note: Dan has semi-nightvision but nowhere near as good as eli's)

"Something midly troubling Captain, and I would say what but for the sake of those involved, if that can do as an sufficient explanation. I believe at least the matter to be...resolved at least."

Elliot was not enjoying this terribly. It had been some time since he'd last got a new crew, but he was used to tensions. The problem was, should he tell the Captain what had transpired, or respect both Dr. Tennant's and Nysth's privacies, possibly leading to some many of misfortune later.

I shall have to decide that after I have spoken to Abigail

Elliot looked brighter, or at least tried. At least a lack of sleep was not getting to him. He tried to change the subject, to a similarly relevant, if less immediately serious, matter.

"But in any way Captain, we must decide where to mount Nysth's cannon. It can pivot, which would suggest the upper deck being suitable to allow it to do so, but I fear that it is too large and moving to be very safe in an area with such high traffic, especially with people running all ways in a battle. On the other hand, I do not yet know its arc."

After a while working with the engines Archie realized that he might be disturbing the others in their sleep. As tempted as he was to continue ha had to have a word with the captain again.
Ace went traveled around the ship until he found the captain by the medbay together with someone else that Ace hadn't meet yet.

"I'm sorry to interrupt captain, I was wondering if I'd be able to work on the engines during the night. Hopefully I won't make to much noise."

After he had spoken to the captain he turned to the new face.

"Greeting to you, I'd be the ships new engineer. Call me Ace"

He turns back to the captain.

"And by the way, the engines' are quite powerful, Captain. More than expected for sure."

Taking note of the glaze in his eyes, Abigail sat him back further in his chair and a bit more upright. Resting his arm so that it was perpendicular to the ground, she glanced at him again.

"Alright, last chance. That booze is only going to keep your nerves in check; it won't do a smidge of good for your shoulder." Sensing that he wasn't all there anymore, Abigail took a breath and began.

She bent his elbow into an angle and rotated his arm and shoulder inward, towards the chest, to make an "L" shape. She used a strap to help pull the arm, not trusting her own strength to pull it as taught as needed. Slowly, but steadily she rotated the arm and shoulder outward, being sure to keep the upper arm stationary.

"Be a dear and make a fist if you can." She placed her hand over his hand to help him out just in case the muscles weren't working properly.

Holding onto the wrist she began to push slowly. When the lower arm was just past 90 degrees to the chest, Abigail began to coax the shoulder back into the shoulder joint. It was never a comfortable experience for the patient but if she stopped there and let the man's pain stop the procedure, it would only be worse.

Abigail frowned. Something was wrong with it; the shoulder was too tight and was not going back in. This wasn't completely abnormal, sometimes it took a few tries to get the shoulder back in. Hopefully this time around would be less painful for the fellow, the shoulder should be looser and easier to manipulate. Yet if it didn't work after a few more goes she'd need to take him to a hospital which, as bad as it would sound, wouldn't be so terrible since they were still on ground. She was a bit worried but started the process again and sighed with relief when there was a somewhat sickly popping noise. She felt the muscle under his skin relax and the joint eased back into place.

"Not bad for an archaeologist, eh?" She laughed, gently rotating his arm in the other direction, back towards the chest with one hand and handing him the bottle again with the other. "You should be feeling infinitely better now, if not a wee bit sore."

Grabbing the soaking pad and bandages, Abigail started to wrap it, opting not to hinder him with a sling.

((Zomg I know how to fix an arm now lol))

Myles has for some time been examining the structure that the clanks have been building along the wall. It has five shallow partitions. A couple of these bays are occupied by clanks, and as Myles watches, a clank walks up and backs into an empty one.

Two devices reach out and socket themselves into the clank, one on the back of its shoulder and another on the back of its head. The one in its shoulder rotates steadily until the clank's mainspring is wound. The one in its head seems to be performing some obscure operation at an extremely rapid pace, a rod down its length being manipulated between the clank and the wall. >taktaktakTOKTOKtakTOKTOKTOKtakTOKtaktakTOK...<

Listening to it, he begins to think it sounds almost like something akin to Morse Code at a speed no human could reproduce or decipher. But what would the machines need to communicate? But then he realizes that if the clanks are to remain equally useful, they must be equally trained. So what one clank learns is communicated to the machine, and then the training is communicated to the other clanks as they report for winding. And the clanks built the thing themselves. Clever system indeed.

the glaze in his eyes keeping his senses basically straight he let the good doctor go to work, with his other arm he gripped the side of the chair, the pain was horrible perhaps the worst thing he'd ever done to himself, as it popped back into place he let out a sigh of releif flexing and stretching the fixed arm he smiles and stands
"Damn sight of a good job to me doc, even for an archaelogist"

he picked up his belongings and walked towards the door before leaving her turns to the doctor scratching the bck of his head

"If ever you need anything, ill be in the hold working"

with that he whistled and a clank came to him listing off a few things as he and the clank walked away

Abigail crossed her arms over her chest and watched his back as he left. A low series of chirps and clicks signaled her faithful clank's presence and she glanced at him.

"Y'know, I still have no idea who that man is." The clank almost shrugged. "One would think having a knife pulled on them then fixing their bum arm would be enough time to get acquainted but I suppose not."

Pushing off of the desk she went to the window and opened it, groaning when the sun's morning rays hit her face. Shutting the window hurriedly she rubbed her temples and walked over to one of the infirmary beds. Laying down she closed her eyes and sighed, utterly worn out now, her nerves wound down and her adrenaline evened out. Draping her arm over her eyes, she muttered something to the clank and he puttered off to finish setting things in their correct place.

Then he notices something as his gaze sweeps over the apparatus. There, hidden in the apparent chaos of the machine's structure. A circular area, about the size of a bowling ball. With a cluster of small parts in the center, and another few around its rim.

What would happen if the sphere were introduced to it? Better not to find out the hard way. For servants, these clanks appear to be taking a number of liberties. Who are they working for, really?

Sasha stumbled into the medical bay. Her goggles were on crooked one half on her left eye the other on her forehead, her face was covered with what looked like soot and she had a raccoon mask of clean skin where her goggles set. coughing and hacking she looked around holding her arm. The one she was holding was missing it's sleeve and garter, the other one whole and gartered was incredibly dirty. and what little of her red vest that was visible under her brown leather half apron. her trousers covered by leather chapps were for the most part clean but the chaps were covered in soot and grease. the tools in her apron were also covered in dirt and grime, as was her apparently black or purple hair, much to hard to tell through all the dirt that had accumulated in it. "um" she said shyly "I think i need a doctor" she said finaly removing her hand off her arm a large chunk of brass was embedded into her arm and as soon as she let off the preassure it began to bleed.

Abigail flung her arm off her face and sat upright on the bed quickly. There were multiple thoughts running through her head at that moment. How on earth had this girl gotten onto the ship? Why was she so dirty? Was that a large chunk of metal in her arm? How terrible was the security on this ship that anyone could walk in at any time? She shook her head, clearing it of the pressing questions and letting only two rise above; how should she get the metal out and how to stop the bleeding?

Shooting off of the bed, Abigail ran to the girl and placed her hands under the girl's elbows to lead her back to the bed. As soon as she had the girl on the mattress, her hands went to the wound and fluttered about, hesitating to touch and not really knowing where to start. She spun around, motioning for her clank with one arm and swallowing to clear her throat.

"Hurry up and find someone!" He clicked questioningly. "I don't know who, someone in charge! Daniel or Eli, go get one of them!"

She waved the clank off and ran to fetch her supplies. She hurried back to the girl and pushed her back so that she was lying down. She was afraid to touch the metal just yet as even attempting such things could prove dangerous for the wounded and did not want to aggravate it. Frowning she tried to examine the wound, trying to see how bad it was but between the blood and the soot it was hard to tell. She prayed the girl wasn't hemorrhaging. Placing gauze on the wound, she applied pressure with her palm. Glancing down at the girl she wanted to get her speaking before she started anything big.

"Honey, do you feel dizzy at all? Can you see straight? I need to apply pressure for ten minutes so you've got plenty of time to explain yourself before the captain gets here. What happened? Who are you?"
PostPosted: Sun Aug 31, 2008 11:48 pm

Sasha used her free hand to take off her goggles.

"well now i can see straight" she smiled even her teeth had smudges. "I don't feel to terribly dizzy just a little light headed. I was messing around with a little boiler, 4 gallon maximum when it. . .sorta exploded on me" she said with a chuckle as if it was everyday.

"I was so close to getting it to work but now it's gone, oh well" she looked at the doctor then realized the doctor had asked her name "oh me i am Sasha" she looked no older than 19, very young.

Abigail smiled a little and looked at the girl, she wasn't terribly younger than herself. She lifted the cloth a little to peek under it then placed it back over the wound.

"Hello Sasha, I'm Abgial. I hate to sound nosy when you're lying there bleeding and all but I hope you'll humor me. How is it that you found your way to this ship and not a hospital? Surely one does not get impaled with a hunk of metal and think 'Ill just hop on over to a ship and hope there's a medic on duty.'" She said the last bit jokingly but was truly intrigued.

She glanced behind her at the door, wondering if her clank had gotten to one of the men. The girl seemed harmless enough but who knew what Daniel would say if he found an unknown girl on his ship who turned out to be dangerous once healed and it was all her fault for letting her aboard? Looking back at Sasha she smiled again.

sasha smiled "i've been here for a while. . . i think" she said she had a very innocnet look on her face. She had a look of uncertanity. "i belive i have been here for a while. . .but then again i rarely get to sleep so i may have only been here for a day or too. . .. " she paused

the wound wasn't bad it was just the size and shape of the peice that made it odd, it looked like part of a seam ro a boiler complete with rivets. one side of the brass was shined and polished the other was black and had what looked like carbon residue. sasha who was still contemplating how long she had been on the ship looked at the doctor.

"when was the last tiem you were in port. . . i belive then was when i got on. . . i don't remember boarding when you were set sail. . .that would be odd. . ." she seemed scatterbrained but that could possibly be due to blood loss.

Abigail scrunched her nose, trying to understand the girl's rambling. The last time they were in port? When had this ship made port? It was an old ship and had been grounded since the last owner retired it; the only life it had seen recently was after Daniel won it in a card game. This was all terribly confusing.

"Dear, we've all only just begun to arrive on this ship; I think you've got your dates mixed up." And possibly your location, she thought.

Lifting the gauze, she found the worst of the red had been lifted away by the cloth and she could finally examine it better. Taking another clean cloth, she grabbed the vial of antiseptic she'd had out earlier for the man and dabbed it onto the cloth. She quickly swabbed the wound to prevent infection though she doubted the good that it would do. Lord only knew what sort of bacteria and junk was on that brass thing. Grabbing some bandages, she began to pad the area around the metal; wrapping it to apply pressure and secure the wound.

"Put your hand here," She guided Sasha's hand to the wound. "And just lay there for a second while I get my hands clean then we'll get that thing out. It looks like it'll come out fairly easy."

Turning her back on her, Abigail hurried to the sink.
