The demon was a blue-skinned, bipedal humanoid, easily nine feet tall, with black ram horns. Eyes of Shadow's essence glared at her dispassionately. A disproportionately large left arm supported part of its weight on its knuckles. The right arm, a normal size for a human of its body type. It began to rattle off disjointed sentences, one after another, in a disinterested voice.

"I am Leviathan. Siber Terrian... currently resides in Crossover. I serve the... well-being of Terrian... and myself, and no... other. I shall serve... you or others... insofar as... it... guarantees the well... being of... both of us." Us seemed to be fairly clearly defined as "Leviathan and Siber," though how Siber could be in any danger was obviously unexplained. Its face was a single smooth surface, like glass, with the Shadow pouring out of it, leaving the source of its voice as mysterious as Siber's sudden disappearance.

((I, too, am getting excessively busy, but I'll attempt to stay in the game))

Erik felt Siber's death before he heard the sound. The songs final notes had struck a chord in his mind, and Erik almost thought he had seen the death himself. It saddened him. Siber had seemed like a very intelligent person, and, to be quite honest, Erik felt a strange sense of kinship with him. A buried bit of anger was also present in the back of his mind. He had been abandoned, in a way. Oh well, nobody really stays anyway.

He turned to the task at hand, completely ignoring all of his emotions.

"Perhaps we should hurry?"

((Sorry about not posting for a bit >.< ))

"Striding... interesting. I'll be right behind you, don't worry," Paul added. He could hardly believe this would be particularly comforting, but it was better than promising to run away at the first sign of trouble.

He pulled his iPod out again, spinning the wheel to the Magic setting. A little more secure, he moved forward a little. "How many are there?" he asked Alan out of curiosity.

Samuel shuddered as he felt the demonic energy wash over ********. Gurul. What the hell was that?>

have
to burn something today. Don't evade it. Seriously...>

Samuel finished his jog down the stairs and exited through the front of the hotel, looking both ways upon exit. To the right, a group of people was standing there around a demonic form and they seemed rather shocked at the disappearance of a comrade.

He casually walked up to the party, since they did not seem to be paying attention, his sword resting comfortably in his hand.
"Hello. Name's Samuel. So whats the deal with the demon?"

Paul, Josh, Alan, and Linda turned a corner, seeing the two groups and the rather large demon.

"That many," Josh commented wryly. He and the swordsman stood against each other, and Alan disappeared into their shadows. "All right. Let's try to capture as many as possible. Don't take any unnecessary risks, blah, blah, blah. I'll lead."

He slammed his gloves against each other, and an energy discharge disintegrated them, revealing his gauntlets. The swordsman prepared himself, dropping his racket case into his own shadow. Linda pulled out a string of prayer beads.

"We're basically an elaborate distraction," the swordsman commented. "Alan's just gonna Shadowstep and Stride around and do the real work."

The moment Kayla heard Samuel's introduction and regitered who he was, given his lack of surprise at the large blue ape standing in their midst, she dropped into her own shadow and reappeared on a balcony midway up a building. She shadowstepped again, appearing above the cornice in the shade of a rooftop garden. She hoped that the rest of her troupe would realize that Samuel's being in the open meant that the Hunters were free to act openly and without mercy towards any of the warlocks present. She sought about for some sort of weapon, and her eye caught on a shovel, leaning against what appeared to be a freshly potted shrub. She picked it up and returned to the edge of the roof, ready to cover anyone who needed covering.

Erik found himself suddenly confronted on both sides. The one from the hotel was probably who they were looking for, so he turned the other way.
"Ready, Joe? Let's push these guys back. Kayla, make sure we don't get flanked. Samuel, right? You're with Joe and I. Throw whatever you've got. All we need to do is get them to take cover and we can run."

As he said this he summoned a Beast in front of himself, giving the Hunters a more pressing target.

Joe slid in, back-to-back with Erik. "Ready? I'm always ready." He smiled in a slightly disconcerting way and held up his hand. It was instantly engulfed in a spinning flame that he twisted through his fingers and across his hand.
"Let's rumble."

Joe nodded, knowing that Roland would get his message.
Then Joe shut his hand over the fire, snuffing it. He looked up at the demon. "Leviathan?" he asked.

Joe ignored Roland and said, "You had to be bound, right? What did Siber use to bind you? If its something tangible, then that means that he's still...well...can we still bring him back? Like, eventually?" He looked up hopefully at Leviathan.

Samuel raised his eyebrows at the quick action and raised his off-hand to point at the Hunters, and a fireball went off beneath their feet.
"You are aware that there are shadowmen in the area, right? Or has that fact slipped your mind and all focus is going to the Hunters since we obviously can't be hit by sniper fire?" His voice was dripping with sarcasm as he placed his sword tip first into the ground and pulled out a pistol, aiming for the head of the foremost Hunter. "We gotta take out these guys quickly, else its gonna be easy pickin' for whoever's watchin'."

((Two groups? I thought that it was just me, Legion's group, and the Hunters that were in groups. The shadowmen would be in hidden positions with snipers.))
PostPosted: Sun Oct 07, 2007 11:03 pm

((Yeah, it's a direct confrontation, with the exceptions of the hidden and undetectable Shadowmen and any violation of the boundaries by the two characters who can Shadowstep.))

Samuel carefully lined his weapon up with the foremost hunter, Joshua, and fired. Somehow, the gauntlets were in the way. It was impossible - Joshua could not have moved his hands that fast, they were at his sides moments ago.

"The Fists of the Titan..." Leviathan muttered, awestruck.

Samuel, frustrated by the failure of his first shot, prepared his aim again; he was taken by surprise when Alan's leg thrust from his shadow, taking his knee out. As Samuel dropped onto one knee, the pavement behind him exploded from an obscenely powerful sniper round. Before anyone could react, he was out of sight again.

~~

"s**t!" the swordsman yelled. "Shadowmen! I'm putting up a visual barrier against them!" He swung his sword in an arc, and a black haze poured from the ground. While you could not see through it, everything maintained the same lighting - not at all strange for a force produced by intersecting what can and what cannot exist.

~~

"Why do you have a sword, human Samuel?" Leviathan asked as he readied himself. "I sense no magic emanation from it. What purpose does it serve? Alas, you must tell me later." And with that, Leviathan took off and charged Josh.

"Alright... we're safe from snipers, but we can't see anything. How in the heck are we supposed to hurt them?" Paul asked, raising an eyebrow, his hand nervously twitching on the iPod and his pistol. The demon charging down his friend seemed distinctly dangerous, but without visual, he couldn't do anything about it until it would be too late.

((Sorry about the confusion. I just meant that Samuel came out of the hotel about the same time the Hunters arrived. Perhaps confronted was the wrong word...))

Samuel shrugged at the failure of his pistol.
"Huh. Looks like they've got some pretty potent stuff. And the shadowmen have started up their sniping... s**t." He put his pistol back in his jacket and picked up the sword, moving it around precisely. "Ahh... It feels good to hold a sword..." He answered Leviathan's question as he charged towards the Hunters, sword raised to point at them. "I find it a far better mental focus than a gun, really. Not surprising, as it is a better weapon overall, once the element of range is removed." The sword was sheathed in flames, and he brought it around, sending a horizontal arc of flames at the Hunters.
PostPosted: Mon Oct 08, 2007 2:55 pm

((Actually, they can all see - I specifically stated that while such a barrier SHOULD have blocked vision, it didn't.))

The Hunter swordsman grinned at Samuel and swung. A gust of wind dispersed the fire and blew the warlocks backwards. Before Samuel could regain his footing, the swordsman was practically on top of him, swinging an elbow the Samuel barely ducked under.

Leviathan threw a punch with his its enormous left hand, strong enough to pound a person to pulp with a single strike.

Josh held his right hand in its path. The fists collided. A blast of kinetic energy from the impact - as the force of Leviathan's punch had to be sent somewhere - flung debris (and people) to the ground. Only Leviathan and Josh were still standing.

Linda, from where she lay, fiddled with her prayer beads and arced four fireballs towards the cluster of hostile warlocks.

"Ow..." Samuel rubbed his head and got up, jumping backwards to scope out the scene. Everyone except the demon and the person with the gauntlets seemed to be down, for now. He seemed to have recovered quickest.

Samuel sheathed his sword and ran to pick up Erik, calling fireballs and sending them everywhere, so all vision was obscured by swirling fire.
"We need to get out of here, and I don't know the way. Tell Kayla to get Joe. Gurul thinks we're outmatched here, so we have got to retreat and cut our losses. Hopefully Leviathan can stall until we can get away."
