Sen looked absolutely offended. How dare he insult her wicked awesome spying skills! "If you're using that beetle not noticing you as an example, I don't think it's because you're sneaky, I think it's because it's not scared of you and was ignoring you."

Honestly! No one was a better spy than her! And if there was someone out there who was better, it was NOT this guy. He would be awful! A disgrace to spies everywhere!

"That's not true and you know it!" he retorted, showing teeth. "Beetles are scared of everything!" Arasi wasn't liking this cub at all. She was so..so...difficult! It was infuriating.

Scared of...?

Sen glanced at the mentioned beetle, and then her gaze re-focused on the lion. "If it was so scared, why is it still so close to us?" Seriously, that made no sense at all! "If you act nicer I'll teach you how to be a real spy."

"'Cause we're not paying any attention to it, that's why," he explained, making up the reason on the spot. Then, feeling it necessary to prove that the beetle was indeed scared of him, he said, "Here, watch this!"

So saying, he smacked his paw through the grass near the beetle, and the fat bug subsequently took flight, buzzing heavily away. At Sen's offer, he frowned. "Who said I needed your help?"

"Some things need no words," Sen told him seriously. Him saying he needed her help was just unnesscary, and things that weren't nesscary were a waste of time. Time that could be spent learning to be a 'real' spy. "It'll be hard for you 'cause you're so dark. Can't blend in like I can."

"Only during the day," he retorted, indignant. "You'd never see me at night, and that's when real spies do spy stuff." To be honest, he wasn't totally clear on everything that 'spy stuff' encompassed, but it worked well enough for him.

Sen paused. Oh. Well. She hadn't thought of that. She eyed the older male intently.

"Good point," she said finally. "But that's not true! Day spies do just as much as night spies!" Yes, it was settled. She was a 'Day Spy' and he was a 'Night Spy'.

"I think we're partners now," Sen concluded.

"Partners?" Arasi blinked owlishly. How had they gone from competition to partners?! Well...maybe it wasn't a bad thing. Partners weren't that far gone from siblings, were they? The adolescent was fishing for a way to integrate 'girl cub' into the way his world worked, and that was about the easiest way to do it without upsetting something.

"Um...okay," he said after a moment of consideration. "So...now what?"

Uh...

Sen had absolutely no idea.

"I could teach you to be more sneaky," Sen suggested. And she knew the perfect target! Well, actually, the perfect target would be that stupid brother of hers. She'd never pass up a reason to pounce on him. But she was pretty sure he was with Mom right now, and so they couldn't do that But she already had someone else in mind.

The cub lowered to the ground and began crawling forward. "Follow me," she whispered.

"Oh, okay.." Dubious, Arasi nonetheless crouched down and started stalking along beside the younger lion. It was a bit awkward, since she was smaller and he took longer strides, but after a few moments he figured out pretty well how to keep alongside her.

"So what are we sneaking?" he whispered, curious. He did have to admit, this beat following beetles around or looking for one of his brothers all afternoon.

Sen made a slow turn to the left and continued onward. Their prey should still be in the Pridelands, she was sure of it. Not totally sure, but pretty sure, and that was good enough.

"Goddess," the cub answered, her strides becoming faster.

Arasi stopped a moment, face screwed up into a very befuddled expression. "What?" It then occurred to him that it was probably some kind of girl-cub game, and he continued to follow her lead with a shake of his head. "Nevermind."

As long as his brothers never caught wind of it, there was nothing to worry about...right?

It was such a rarity she found any time to rest, Mwokoti found it ironic, in that cruel sort of way, that when she finally could she wished she had that annoying sense of some mortal requiring assistance so she'd have left this place before that pridelander had found her again.

Neither of her lavender eyes opened, but she was acutely aware of the familiar presence, and... one that wasn't so familiar.

"Okay," Sen whispered, stopping a short distance away from the tree the Goddess lay under. "Watch and learn." She'd barely finished that sentence before she darted forward and pounced on the far larger lioness, gnawing on her ear in the same way she'd done with Arasi.

"Got cha!"
PostPosted: Sat Jul 28, 2007 12:26 pm

Seeing their 'prey' at last, Arasi's green eyes went wide in disbelief, and in a hush whisper he told Sen "H-hey, wait!" but by the time he'd gotten it out, she was already gone, gnawing on the ear of a pale, winged lioness.

It had not been a girl-cub game. She'd been serious. The adolescent rose from his stalking posture and stood, looking on in shocked silence. He wanted, quite desperately, to insist that he had nothing to do with this. Nothing at all.

He was as good as caught, though.

One would think Mwokoti would have learned pretending to be asleep didn't work with this little pest. She cracked one eye open and gazed up at the mortal. "Sen," she greeted.

The Goddess stood, shaking her head until Sen lost her grip and toppled to the ground, flat on her back. She tilted her head at an awkward angle to look at Arasi. "See! Just like that!"

Mwokoti had known there were two of them, but she hadn't considered they were together. Her eyes examined Arasi with an expression that said without say: 'You poor soul.'
