Malen just smirked " Too late, they know you're doomed." he paused for a moment trying to decide how to respond to the compliment. " I don't cut it often and I use Loreal becuase I'm worth it" he joked. He wasn't sure if the joke would make it's mark but it was worth a shot.

Gil lowered his head and sniffed the bug, nothing; in all honesty Gil didn't smell anything from it. That was unfortunate becuase things that smelled good usually tasted good. Wondering if that meant the crawly bug would be tasteless he opened his mouth.

"Gil don't you dare put that in your mouth" Malen warned.

Gil sighed and dropped the bug " wasn't any good, you were right."

Christian grumbled at him, ruefully, and then grinned at the joke. "Oh funny." He snorted at him, grinning, and shook his head. He looked over in time to hear Malen reprimand Gil for trying to eat a bug, and snorted. "That doesn't mean you should eat it for him, Dori."

"Alright, alright." Dorian grumbled, and got up, looking around. "What else is there to do?" He asked, looking at Gil. In the games department, he was pretty stumped. At least for now.

Christian sighed. "I have a feeling that's not the last time they try eating something that squirms." And that... came out so wrong. He covered his face. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean it like that." He mumbled, laughing around his hand anyway.

Gil furrowed his he tried to think. What else could they do? Was there anything fun here? His eyes settled on the tree nearby, they could try to go up it. But it was really tall and there wasn't much of interest up there. Bugs would be hard to find and good ones even harder. " We could collect.. stuff." Gil had no ideas what to do either. Usually when he was bored he chased Hazard and fade around the apartment but the Mini dragons were nowhere to be found today.

Malen choked out a laugh " It's ok really, besides a good chunk of Gaia's population seems either experimental or fully homosexual. Besides Gil's the oral type." Two could play with words.

Dorian grumbled a little, and flopped back onto the grass, staring straight up. Then he sniffed, and remembered. "Heeey... There're sammiches in my picnic basket. Want one?" He grinned at Gil, and got up, running over to the blanket and flopping down.

"We got bologna and peanut butter'n jelly. And tuna." He made a face. The smell of fish bothered him for some reason.

Christian's palm connected with his forehead when he heard Malen's statement, and he laughed around his hand. "Okay that? Was wrong. I wasn't even that bad." He grinned at him, amused. "And trust me, I've noticed." He sighed. "At least I've got some options." He snorted, and grinned over at him.

Malen shrugged " It's not like he's paying attention or cares." Yeah he was bad and it felt oh so good to be less than polite and perfect again. " Oh yes plenty of options it's impossible to tell all the time though and some people are genderless and other are traps and Jesus you have straight crossdressers and" Malen threw up his hands" dating on Gaia is dangerous. Fun but dangerous."

At the mention of food Gil perked up " I'd like one, any one I like food." As of yet Gil had failed to find a food that didn't taste good to him.

"Still." Christian laughed a little. "That was just..." He shook his head. "There're no words for what that was." He grinned at him, to show it was in good nature, then looked towards the boys. "... And they've found the sandwiches." He muttered, snorting a little.

"There are like, ten sandwiches in there! That doesn't mean eat them all." He wanted at least one...

Dorian looked up, and gave Christian the thumbs up, before delving into the picnic basket and procuring two sandwiches. "Here." He grinned at Gil, holding out one for him. His was peanut butter and jelly, because he didn't like bologna or tuna sandwiches. Made the bread soggy and tasted weird, donchaknow.

Then he sat on the blanket Christian'd been sleeping on, and started to munch away happily.

Malen grinned " I have left you speechless my goal for the day is fulfilled." He watched the boys with their food and shook his head. Gil and food was always an interesting combination. " Somehow I doubt they could have eaten them all" he commented. " Small stomachs and all."

" Thanks" Gil took the offered band which and immediately took a small bite. He chewed slowly as he was suddenly assaulted with the taste of the thing. It was sweet and sticky and smooth and rich and sweet. Oh and the bread was sort of boring like drinking water but still good. Gil closed his eyes and continued to eat the sandwich enjoying every single bite throughly, though it was getting harder to chew with each one.

Christian watched the boys, and snorted a little at Malen, grinning. "I wouldn't put it past the Powers that Be to give me a kid who can eat me out of house and home and still look stick-thin. Thus making me both hungry and envious." He grinned a little, and shook his head.

Dorian watched him eat the sandwich while he ate his own, scarfing it down as if it'd run away from him. Then he blinked, and watched Gil enjoying his sandwich. And he had to ask. "Why do you eat like that?" Came a quietly asked question, as if he was embarrassed. Really, it was a weird thing to ask, but... He just had to.

" Stick thin is disturbingly thin," Malen never had understood why some wanted to be so small, to have so little muscle or body fat to protect and cushion them. Sure sometimes biological things happened and putting on weight was hard but muscle was always something one could add. " Besides puberty would change that most likely, he'd eat a chip and balloon."

Gil paused, scraped peanut butter from the roof of his mouth and swallowed before answering. " tastes better, makes the tastes last."he sucked in a breath of air letting it's crisp sweetness cleanse his taste buds a bit. " Air tastes too you know."

Christian grinned a little, and shook his head. "I didn't mean stick thin. Just... y'know." He snorted a little, and shook his head. "I hope not." He muttered about puberty. "That'd be awful for the kid's confidence." Christian snorted. "He's... got his moments." He explained. "And he seems to be doin' fine with your kid, but usually he's withdrawn. At least, from what I've seen."

Of course, in the presense of a six-foot-five Nicodemus... It was hard not to come off as withdrawn.

Dorian frowned a little, and took a deep breath, trying to taste it. But he didn't quite taste the air, so much as smell it. "I don't taste anything." He frowned, thoughtfully. The air had a sweet and fresh scent, but it didn't taste like anything to him. Maybe the air's taste was just too subtle for Dorian's tastebuds. He shrugged, then, and looked around.

Malen looked thoughtful " Gil was like that at first, very focused but not there you know, he was aware but oblivious to anything but what he was paying attention to. I think it's them just trying to get used to life and once they do they sort of develop their personality" he shrugged " Just a theory."

Gil stared at Dorian for a moment how could he not taste the air? Truly this bug squishing boy was odd. Finishing his sandwich Gil licked his fingers clean and flopped onto his back. He stared at the sky for a few second before something caught his attention. A bird bothered by all the recent noise took flight from the nearby tree.

" I wish I could fly." Gil murmured then eyes the tree. He'd never tried flying before. he didn't have wings but he did have arms he could wave really fast. Looking over at Dorian he grinned " Wanna try to fly?"

Christian nodded quietly, and watched them, taking a deep breath and then sighing it out. "I hope your theory's solid." He muttered, snorting. "I dunno how to deal with a shy kid." They stumped him, seriously.

"....." Dorian looked up, thinking, then looked at Gil. "... You any good at climbing?" He asked, grinning slowly. It couldn't be that bad, really. He got up, and headed over to the tree quickly.

Christian watched, frowning. "What do you think they're gonna do?" It couldn't be that bad...

Malen shrugged " I haven;t got any shy kids either, Kishi was an energetic tomboy, Del wanted to be a superhero and Gil.. well I don't know him too well but he is active and friendly. If I had a shy child I'm not sure how I would deal with it." Malen had lucked out and gotten children that suited his style and views on child rearing. Had he gotten more difficult ones he'd probably be at a major loss.

" They are probably going to try and climb that tree,if they succeed we should be in for an interesting spectacle when they discover it's not half as easy getting back down." Malen thought back to his own tree climbing days and smiled.

Gil shrugged " Never tried." He followed Dorian to the tree. there were a few placed where the trunk and bark looked like liked ok places to put your hands and feet. " You wanna go first?" he offered while readjusting his goggles on his eyes. He'd slid them back up onto his head while eating.

"Pff. Lucky." He grumbled at him, and grinned a little. "I get the one who appears to be my polar opposite." Christian looked back at them and sighed. "I hope they don't get too far up." He wasn't tall by any means, and he certainly wasn't going to go climbing up a tree after Dorian. He was likely to get stuck, too.

"... Hmm... Alright." Dorian nodded, and went to the tree, starting to pull himself up using the bark on the trunk. He shimmied up to the first branch, and climbed onto it, steadying himself. "How high should I go?" He called over to Gil, looking up and frowning a little.

" Perhaps he'll be good for you then, a bit of change in perspective never hurts."Malen had found that by listening to and observing his children he'd learned plenty about the world in another's eyes and also about the way he portrayed himself. It had certainly been an education. " I'd rather them not fall from a great height but their not skilled enough to go that high anyways, Not to mention that fear of falling is one of two innate fears we are born with. Natural alarm bells won't send them too high until they are capable enough to understand the risks and ignore the warning.

Gil shrugged" I dunno it's hard to tell from down here wait a second." The boy backed up slowly and took a running leap at the tree. He got about two step up the trunk before gravity kicked in and it was only his grip on a low lying branch opposite Dorian's that saved him from meeting the ground for the second time that day.

The bark bit into his skin and his arms ached at the weight but Gil was unaware of this. He dangled on the branch and looked up. " Go to the long one next to the one with the tree grass on it." Unaware of what moss was Gil assumed the green substance on one of the branches was just tree grass.

Malen stared at his son and shook his head " Trade you" he offered jokingly.
