He nodded and then looked up to the sky. He hadn't really been looking in anyone specific place for other winds. He just hoped that if he flew everyday he would just run into them at some point. Though the only time that had worked had been just then. "I haven't really been looking in any one specific place. I just figure if I fly around enough I would run into someone else that had wings." he said and then looked back to her.

He wondered what it was about her sister that he wouldn't believe. He hadn't the faintest idea and wasn't going to ask. If she wanted him to know she would tell him. He wasn't about to poke at her to get info about her family. Some Soquili did not respond well to that.

He noticed her smirk and was atleast glad that she wasn't glaring at him anymore. Though he wondered what it was that made her smirk. Best not to ask, might be safer that way. Their meeting had already not started off well. "I guess you're right. As long as I have someplace to belong that is all that matter really. Though it is always amazing that there are those that do have a family that has actually stuck together." he said and smiled.

She seemed to him to be a bit young to be so wise but then again, wisdom was sometimes something that others naturally possed. Though she could have gained it from experience as well. Whoever her parents were they should be proud to have such a strong daughter.

She gave him an unbelievable expression. "You mean you haven't thought about looking around in the mountains? That's where most of them live!" she explained, managing to keep the shock out of her voice. She didn't necessarily want to make him feel bad, but she also wanted to point out how silly he was being by not necessarily looking and instead merely waiting.

She kept her mouth shut afterwards, trying to think of a way to introduce him to more of their air-borne kind. Not knowing what to do, though, she merely sighed. "Hm, if you want to have a family, then make one, or something." She gave him a wary look. "Uh, not with me, of course; no offense, but I think you're a bit old for me..." She really hoped he didn't take offense to that. "I wouldn't mind being a friend though, if you really need it." She allowed a gentle smile to appear on her face.

"My father usually says that to be a good friend, you have to watch out for one another. Sometimes even teach each other life-long lessons... believe me, they really come in handy!" she laughed, eyes dancing.

He chuckled a bit nervously and shifted his wings. He must really seem like a dork now. "Well, I never really thought about it and I haven't really been looking too hard." Now he really did feel silly. He hadn't come from the mountains but he should have asked someone who was from this land where he might find others of his kind. "I never really thought about looking in the mountains. I didn't come there and so it never occured to me that they lived there. I probably should have asked someone though if they knew where I could find them. It might have been easier." he said and gave another chuckle.

Unlike her, he couldn't keep the shock off of his face over her thinking he was old. "Old?! I look old? Now that's a shot to the ego! I don't think I look that old." he said with a pout and went about examining himself. He still look rather athletic and slim, maybe he was loosing his feathers and that made him old. "Do I have all my feathers? Maybe I lost some and that makes me look old." he said and gave her a goofy grin. Of course he was just being silly now but he did take that comment to heart. Maybe Midori was right about frowning too much and getting wrinkles.

He was glad though that she had actually smiled. That was progress and he was happy to have made a friend. "Anyway, I don't think I am really prepared or ready to make a family of my own. I still have a lot more mares to meet!" he said with a glint of mischief in his eyes. "But I would like to be your friend. And I think your father is right. Good friends are also supposed to help each other to grow and be there when something goes wrong."
PostPosted: Fri Jul 27, 2007 10:30 am

She grinned wide. "Well, if that's the case then you should probably just wander around. You never know who you'll meet, and believe me, I do it all the time and keep running into new Soquili every day. I don't even search... it just happens! This place is so populated you'd think it was a wonder you didn't run into anyone at all!" What she said was true: the Soquili lands was packed that it was often strange to find a place abandoned or not filled with at least one or two Soquili around.

Now, Blackfire felt really bad to have said it in a way that Dustin thought he was old. She hadn't meant it in the way he was thinking in the least! "That's not what I meant, Dustin," she tried to make amends. "I meant that I'm still too young yet if you were thinking about it." She smiled softly, though, trying not to laugh at how he was being silly by examining himself. "You care about your looks that much?" she commented, not caring at all how she looked. She could have been dirty and ugly and wouldn't have cared in the least.

"You males are all the same, just looking for a mare to care for you," she teased, eyes dancing with laughter. "Being your friend is something I can give," she nodded. "Of course he's right! He always is!" she said happily. "He's so strong, and wise, and smart, you wouldn't think otherwise!" She failed once again to mention her father was actually a Kalona, but then, it was probably safer that way.

He grinned wide also at seeing her finally smile and at not being in a grouchy mood anymore...even if he was the one who started it. "I have been wondering around but still have not run into many others. Though I probably just need to wonder around more than I have been." he said and shrugged.

"Its okay. And so you know, I wasn't thinking about it. I was just happy to meet one like myself. Just like you, I feel as though I am too young to be tied down just yet. Like I said, I still have a whole lot of mares to meet yet, if this land is really so full of Soquili like you say." he said with a chuckle and a toss of his short mane. He noticed she was trying to laugh at his antics which was nice. If they were going to be friends he should atleast be able to make her laugh. " I actually don't care all the much about how I look really. I was just playin' though. I couldn't resist it when you said I was old." he said and dared to give her another wink. He really didn't mind all that much how he looked. He figured if someone really had a problem with it they wouldn't talk to him or he would just ignore them.

"And I am not like all the other males! Why would I want a mare to care for me when I have been able to care for myself most of my life? If it really came to it. I would probably want a mare that could stand on her own but who wouldn't be too adversive over having a stallion who wanted to protect her and look after her. And I would see as more of my equal who would stand beside me not behind or in front of me." he said with a nod. So maybe he had thought about what he wanted once or twice before. But he wasn't ready to actually do out looking for it. He figured it would just come to him when the time was right.

He gave himself a nod, more so to end his little serious tangent he went on and then laughed at her exlamiation of her father. "All fathers are right of course! It is in the father job description!" he exclaimed also with a happy smile and laughter in his own eyes.

She sighed and shrugged. He was just doing what he felt like, and she couldn't blame him for that anymore than she could have blamed herself for merely 'wandering around', as Dustin had put it. At any rate, he seemed like a pretty nice guy, and it would be nice to know some nice guys. "Wander away," she agreed. "You'll run into a Soquili of some sort one of these days! Just hope you don't have a run in with a Kalona." She warned, though she felt uncomfortable saying such a thing.

"That's fine; I'm somewhat bull-headed and jump to conclusions. I don't like being spied on or being watched without knowing," she grumbled, but it was just light moaning on her part. "You are old if you have to play on it like that," she teased, chuckling. "I don't like being called pretty or beautiful--because it's not true--so I deny it. I would accept the compliment if it was true, though," she said off-handedly. She wasn't pretty at all; or at least, she didn't think she was and really didn't care.

She ignored his wink this time, and shook her head. "Haha, I was just kidding! All males seem the same to me at first, you know. I'm still getting used to the idea, and sadly, physical features aren't really what makes anyone unique anymore. I think," she said, thoughtfully. She gave him a sly look. "So you have thought about it. Interesting... but nothing new. It's okay; I won't laugh; it's just something to do once in a while, I guess." She shook her head. "Yeah, well, if father's are supposed to be like that, then so be it. I guess I can't change him around! Darn..."

He shrugged also. Everyone was entitled to be a little bull-headed every now and then. He didn't think she had been all that bull-head since he had come upon without so much as a warning. "I don't think you really jumped to conclusions. You had every right to get like that. I had come in unexpectedly." he said and chuckled at her teasing.

"Now I am no expert either on who is pretty and who is beautiful, but I would have to say you are easy on the eyes. I am not going to argue it though. If you don't think you are all that good looking that is your opinion. Everyone has one. But if you really wanted to meet someone so upset with his looks you should meet my teepee mate. He is obsessed with how he looks though I don't know why. He's just a rather large pink stallion." he said thinking of Rhapsody. That boy really did need to get over himself. Looks weren't everything and there was more to life than that.

"I agree with ya on the physical features thing. I have seen some pretty strange Soquili out there that it is becoming uncommon to run into a...how should I say it... naturally colored Soquili. Not that I am saying there is anything wrong with being pink or purple. I think I should just leave it go at that before I dig myself into a hole, huh?" he said. He hadn't ment it to come off as offensive or anything and he hoped that she hadn't found it as such since she did have some different colors in her own coat. Though so did he.

"Anyway, what is so bad about Kalonas? I am sure that there are some that are nice just like there are unicorns that can be evil and uncharacteristic."
PostPosted: Fri Aug 03, 2007 6:46 am

She nodded, idly thinking she was hungry, and only half paying attention to Dustin now. She didn't meant to not give him her full attention, but sometimes Blackfire's mind really was... well, a mind of its own. "I guess so, but I only do it because I'm paranoid. My father, being the Kalona he is, tends to enjoy surprising me, because I tend to just not pay attention most times." She felt now that she knew him a little better she could reveal her parentage, and hopefully he wouldn't freak out (though she doubted it, because she hardly looked Kalona let alone go rampaging about like a buffoon.)

She nearly tripped over a rock hearing about a pink stallion, and she turned striking blue eyes filled with amusement and wonder at just the thought. "A pink stallion? Now, that's a new one even I would have to be skeptical over, but I guess it could happen. I mean, I've seen some pretty bizarre things, but that one really caught me off guard." She had to agree with him; there were some 'good' Kalona just as there were 'bad' Unicorns (although she'd never agreed to that one; her one experience with Meshach had really given her an abrupt start about unicorns in general) and then realized she had already mentioned her heritage. She was being careless again... Drat.

"Kalonas love to rip, tear, and taste raw flesh while drinking the lifeblood, and then to finish their course they suck out the soul," she commented casually, as if it were an everyday occurrence to her (which was true). "Kalonas are terrifying upon first look; they are the predators to the 'lesser'--that'd be us, by the way--and they enjoy hunting." She said the last part with slight bitterness but managed to hide it. She was worried about something soon to come, and she didn't really want to deal with it at the moment, nor think on it.

As she nearly tripped over him knowing a pink stallion, so did he nearly trip over her being part kalona. There was just no way. She had feathered wings and not the leathery bat wings as always mentioned. And she even spoke so highly of her father. Weren't Kalona's known for not having families and eating thier children if they did?

"You're part kalona?" he asked still kind of skeptical. Here she was going on about it like it was common knowledge though what she had said about kalonas was typical and she seemed to recite it as if she had heard all the horrid stories growing up as a foal that were ment to make bad foals behave and go to bed at night. Though she had counted herself in with the lesser Soquili. She was a half breed and so to a true kalona that would be lesser.

Then he began to laugh rather hysterically. This was all just too funny. Here she was amazed at a pink stallion and here he was amazed that she was part kalona and yet looked like a normal wind soquili. "This is just outrageous!"
PostPosted: Fri Aug 10, 2007 7:55 am

She watched as his mind whirled as it tried to process the news that she was, indeed, part Kalona. Oh, she probably looked nothing like it--of course--but that didn't mean she wasn't. The blood of the hunter, when it overcame her will, often times pained with the small transformation it gave her. Her teeth would stretch so that they grew into the familiar fangs, and her hooves sharper--she would become stronger, her body growing more muscled.

However, the blood and transformation never lasted long, and most of the time it happened Blackfire only hoped she was alone... she would never have any recollection of what she did during that state, only that it had been painful and she couldn't fight it matter how hard she tried. "...Yes," she said, knowing if she wasn't truthful now and pretended it was a joking matter Dustin would call her on it and then she'd be stuck weaving around a bunch of lies... which of course, was never any fun.

Dustin began to laugh. Hysterically, and at the same time Blackfire knew he just couldn't take the situation. To him, it was probably amusing, but to her, the only amusing thing to think about was the thought of a pink stallion, which, oddly, didn't seem all too amusing anymore. She waited for him to calm down as she watched him laugh. "Perhaps it is... but I do not lie," she said, almost too quietly.

Dustin finally got himself undercontrol after a few moment and shook his head. "I'm sorry for laughing but it just seems amusing. The situation I mean. You are suprised at a pink stallion and I am suprised that you are part kalona. It would be natural for you if you came across another that was part something and for me it would be perfectly natural to come across another stallion who had pink in him. I have not had the pleasure or displeasure of meeting a kalona or even part kalona until know. Hence my suprise." he tried to explain.

He really hoped he had not upset her with his laughing. He couldn't help it as it was kind of an ironic situation, well he thought so anyway. Then he wondered if she felt outcast or something like it was a bad thing to be part kalona. But then again she had said he dad was a very caring person and so she must be alright with it. Atleast they had discussed there being good and bad Unicorns, Winds and Kalona so it wasn't all that hard for him to except. Her father was one of those characteristic exceptions to the kalona breed.

"Question, if you don't mind me asking. Do you feel somewhat...outcast for being a half-breed and resent it? I know unicorns sometimes see it as bad blood to mix with a 'lesser' breed and I am sure kalona are the same way since both are so prideful."
PostPosted: Fri Aug 10, 2007 10:46 am

She accepted his apology without a second thought, knowing he found the irony in the situation too amusing to not laugh at. However, Blackfire didn't really see the irony at all; though she was surprised to learn there were, indeed, pink stallions, she had no doubt there were some that were just out of this world in different colors. No, Blackfire didn't feel badly about him laughing--after all, he wasn't laughing at her, and there was a difference--and she agreed with his explanation.

"That's fine, Dustin," she replied, blue eyes half-glazed over. She was hungry... "Only, I don't see what's really funny about it--I'm just surprised that this pink stallion friend of yours is so adamant about his looks. I'm sure he looks okay, despite his color," she commented. Actually, Blackfire hated that she was part Kalona; a half-breed who carried the blood but looking nothing like it. Her sister had an easier time being accepted into the Kalona world--and all because she had the characteristics more than she did.

"..." She paused momentarily to think about how to answer him. His question, which she had just answered within her mind, was something she could choose whether or not to answer... she sighed to herself. "Kalona are worse about the mixed blood thing, but my father thinks it's better to mix blood because he... well, actually, I have no clue why my father mated with a Wind." She really didn't know, and blackfire had avoided the main question for the moment. "...Sometimes I do resent being an outcast... both worlds seem familiar and yet alien to me."

He nodded and watched her, noticing that she had a funny glazed look on her face. He was glad thought that she kinda understood where he was coming from. This was all something new to him.

For him it didn't matter what another was like or looked liked. Personalities were the important thing. He had been around long enough to know that you didn't trust what was on the outside and to not judge by what was on the otuside. He wasn't adverse to half-breeds or mixed breeds. As long as they got along with him or gave him no problems he was fine. He was even fine with Kalona and Skinwalkers so long as they left him be or were nice towards him...well atleast civil.

"Sometimes it would be better to mix blood. For the sake of having bloodlines continue or there not being enough of pure in a breed. Though I wouldn't know. I don't pay much attention to that kinda thing. Like I have said before, it's whats on the inside that counts to me not the outside or the blood. There are even times that I feel alien to other winds." he shrugged and tossed his head.

"Anyway what matters is you have a family that loves you despite being what you are and I am sure you have other friends who feel the same. Atleast I like you for who you are and not what you are." he said with a smile.
PostPosted: Fri Sep 28, 2007 5:18 pm

Snapping out of her hungered look, Blackfire gave a swift grin to Dustin. "It might be better to mix blood, but then, my family was awkward to start with." She failed to mention that her family was as bizarre as they came. She didn't know her father's past, though, and she knew that Windflame was much older than her mother, Ringlet, though he hardly looked like it.

She reflected that maybe it was because he had been through much in his life and had just wizened up to it. Shrugging to herself, she glanced at the sun, saw that the day was waning and that she--and Dustin--should both head home. She smiled at her new friend--would they meet again?--and nodded towards the sky.

"It's getting late..." She knew she was avoiding commenting about what he had said earlier, but the day was close to evening now, "...and I should go home, like you should too." Uncharacteristically, she gave Dustin a sincere smile. "It was nice to meet you, Dustin. I hope we run into each other again sometime."

A quick nod to confirm her farewells, she moved away so that she had room, and took off into the skies, heading home towards the setting sun.

Dustin smimled back and gave her a nod. "Aye, and I hope we run into each other again too. Have a good evening!" he called after her and then he too took off, but not for home. He was in too much of a wondering mood for that and so headed off towards the beach instead.
