Hmm...that was strange. It looked almost like she had flinched slightly as her mane moved across her neck, he thought to himself. Then he caught sight of something dark on her neck but didn't get the best look as another braid covered it up. He wondered what it had been, maybe it was a scar but it looked a bit fresh to be an old scar, though it would most likely be one eventually if it was new. He wasn't going to ask her though. That would be rude plus she was just getting to trust him and to know him.

"Alright then!" he said suddenly excited. He loved to tell others stories and it didn't matter if it was something stupid about himself or some tale he had heard a long time ago from and elder. He loved stories and that was that. "Well, when I was just a lad, I was starting to learn how to fly but I had no one to teach me how to go about it. I have always been on my own since I was only very little. Anyway, on this particular day I actually managed to get some air but I was very shaky, like learning to walk when you are born. Your legs aren't used to the movement and well my wings weren't used to the air beneath them. I ended up somehow getting caught up in a net. I don't know how I did it and I never figured it out. But the one who rescued me left these two bits pf the net on my front legs as a reminder so I would never forget and be more careful." he told her.

He waited for her expression of his story. He wondered if she would find it silly or just not amusing at all.

Well that wasn't very funny at all! It sounded almost painful to the mare and it took much of her self control to maintain her composure. She had been expecting a story that didn't involve getting stuck, all this one served to do was to confirm to her that humans were strange! To think they wouldn't even take the string off his legs because it was a 'lesson'.

She would have grunted, but it was unladylike.

"You were always alone?" This concept in itself was bizarre given she had been brought up with strong family ties. Alright, so her mother had been somewhat elusive but her father had doted on her and had taught her nearly everything she knew! "How strange, there are so many around here..." A simple observation, but a true one.

"Did it hurt?"

Okay, so his story had been a bit lame and not all that funny. But it was one he had remembered from when he was just a little thing. He thought it was funny but of course he had lived it and knew how he must have looked trying to fly and then getting stuck.

"Yes, from what I can remember I have always been alone. I know of course that I had a mother and father at some point in time but I never got to meet them. Though...I can't seem to remember why." he said pondering this for a moment and then shrugged. What ever the reason was for him not remembering what happened only proved that it was traumatic enough for his mind to want him to forget it.

"Did it hurt? Well, the landing did since I crashed instead of land. But the string doesn't and it didn't when I got caught in it."

The image of a tiny foal crash landing and tumbling in an undignified heap did make her smile a little more than it should have. Perhaps it was because he was here now to tell the tale that it wasn't so bad, but the image was positively hilarious when it was mental. After all, the baby could get up and walk away in a stunned manner, the dazed expression lining its face as all manner of thoughts ran through its head.

Probably like the first time she had walked about in the snow. Or it was more of a hop, it had been really deep and she had disappeared a number of times into deeper mounds completely unawares. She had been a midget growing up, but her father had always been right when he reassured her that she would get a growth spurt...she certainly had.

"Not knowing your family is unfortunate, they give so much strength to you in hard times," She murmured after a few moments, canting her head to the side. "When you're hurt or lost, all you have to do is think back to them and they give you courage...It's sad that you don't have that." She continued before shaking her head.

"I'm sure you have other methods to do that though, yes?"

He watched her as a smile slowly started to spread across her face as she finally got the mental image of his story. Maybe she had she own story that was similar to his that she was picturing. Either way it made him rather happy to see her smiling and he didn't know why. For some reason it seemed important to get her to smile, like there was something wrong about her and he needed to atleast make her forget about it for the moment.

"Yes it is unfortunate but it can also be seen as a good thing." he said and watched her shake her head. Maybe he would catch another glimpse of her neck and see if it really was a wound he had saw. "For one thing I am able to depend on myself and I can stand on my own. But like you said it is always good to have family around when you need them. As for me it is the will to just survive to see another sunrise that keeps me going. I know that there is a lot out there that I have not experienced yet and I want to get that chance. For example family. I would like to one day have my own family and for that to happen I have to survive."

A family of his own?

"You would need a great deal of luck too," She pointed out softly. It wasn't that she didn't like the idea of family, on the contrary she seemed to love it. She was fiercely loyal to her own father, loved him deeply and loved her herd but the concept of having one of her own... Well, something didn't seem right, something was missing.

"But I am sure some pretty mare will fall for your charms, you have the manners of a gentleman," She continued, more towards her own thoughts. Her tone was somewhat undetermined, distant as she seemed to discuss the concept of such a thing with herself more than towards the stallion. Some would call it rude - others would call it tumbling down a rabbit trail.

She didn't care, to be honest.

"You believe will power alone can sustain you?" She returned to the real world at last and canted her head to the side. At last her braids shifted and the scratches and sealed puncture wounds were completely visible. It seemed her had gotten his wish.

"A strange idea."

So they were wounds! And bad ones at that...hmm...

"Yes, a great deal of luck would also be helpful. I think it would take more than my charms and manners for a pretty mare to fall for me." he replied even though it seemed she had been talking more to herself than him. He was flattered that she thought he had manners of a gentleman which sometimes made him think he was just a jerk or pompas.

"Of course will power alone can't do much. Luck has alot to do with it too. Which I must have a lot if I survived on my own since I was little. I am sure there are other things but I have not thought much about them."

Bad wounds? Well they had been worse and had it not been for the spirits she would have been joining them in those legendary lights. If they hadn't acted when they had chosen to, she too would have touched the frozen lands and given it life again. That idea in itself made her sigh, it was a beautiful concept but one reserved for those who had lived full lives...who were ready to leave the world of the living.

Just another journey, but they didn't think she was ready.

It almost made her bitter, they made her go through all that pain...only for her to wake up again. Stiff but no alone, she had been coaxed into moving to safer grounds but she still couldn't fathom what she had done to possibly deserve such violence...she had always been nice, or tried to be.

"Sometimes it doesn't even take that to have a mare fall for you, sometimes it simply takes looks alone," She pointed out after a few moments, offering a wry smile as she shifted the braids back into position. There was a reason she hid in the shadows, she didn't want such grotesque things to be on view.

"You shouldn't be so hard on yourself, confidence works wonders in that regard."

He watched as she moved her braids back in to hide the wounds. He knew that it must hurt to have them covered but it seemed that either the thought of another seeing them made her uncomfortable to let them show or it was her pride. Either way he still did not say a word.

"Yes but I would want something more than looks alone to get a mare to fall for me. Unfortunately I do not think I look all that spectacular. Just plain old black and red." he said with a smile and a chuckle. He really did not care too much about looks. He even didn't care too much about is own looks. From a young age he knew personalities were alot more important than looks.

"Plain old black and red?" Sparkles repeated before releasing a delicate laugh. It was much more light hearted than one would have expected from a creature as wounded as she was but apparently she was an optimist. Shaking her head, the topic had clearly turned to one that she enjoyed most dearly... She could be motivational when she needed to be and it gave her an excuse to coo at her own appearance...or former appearance at least.

"If you are plain old black and red then I must be plain old pink and cream," Sparkles pointed out gently, glancing briefly at her own coat before raising a brow. She knew she wasn't 'plain old' anything, in fact, she knew she was positively beautiful when she wasn't covered in scabs. Ah...she recalled when the sun would hit her dew covered form in the mornings and she would look positively angelic.

Plain black and red her a**.

"First impressions are always important," She continued after a few moments, "And you make a good first impression - once that's done all you have to do is woo them with your charm!"

He smiled at her laugh. "Same to you! Plain old Pink and Cream? I don't think so! I bet in the sun your coat sparkles just like your name." he said smiling. He really did bet that she looked amazing out in the morning sun instead of here in the dark forest. Even though she was wounded and probably thought how horrid she must look, to him she looked stunning. There were always worse things than looks anyway.

"Yes first impressions are important and thank you. You make a pretty good one yourself. Besides, I could be a pink stallion or something weird like that. And actually I know one and he has a complex about it too." he said matter of factly. Poor Rhapsody did have such a complex but he was starting to get over it now which was really good. Better sooner than later.

What was wrong with pink?

"My father is pink," Sparkles stated in a matter of fact tone. She simply couldn't understand what was so bad about that too, she looked just like her father and he was well respected. Alright, so he sometimes got teased for being pink but he simply gave a strut and a wink - it was enough to make the girls giggle and the boys frown. Pink was the world's best colour in the eyes of Sparkles!

"And there is a reason I was called Sparkles, my father didn't simply name me like this because I have a twinkly horn," She teased lightly, canting her head to the side as she continued to listen to him talk. So his friend was pink and didn't enjoy it...from what she was beginning to gather, stallions had to reach certain expectations in these lands.

"And you know...if you mated with a white mare your children could end up pink too," She pointed out smoothly, obviously referring to how the red on his coat might mix, "What if it was a boy!" She gasped.

"I didn't say there was anything wrong with pink. Rhapsody though has other issue that go along with being pink. He never met his mum or his sister. And his father and grandmother are both bright red, so he can't understand why he is pink. But he is learning to live with it now." he said. It was true, the younger stallion associated the color pink with the loss of his mother and sibling and so that was the reason for not liking the way he looked. He wanted to look more like the family he did know and not like the family he didn't.

"I did guess that there was a reason other than your 'twinkly' horn that you have the name you do. As for me...I haven't the faintest idea why my name is Dustin. Just is and I accept that." he said before looking at the red on his wings. It was true that he could probably have children with pink on them but it did not bother him. What's on the outside doesn't always mean anything.

"As for me having pink children. I think that is a long time coming, but I would not mind. I would just teach them that its whats on the inside that counts. Though my pink friend maybe better able to handle the pink thing once his father and step-mum have kids of thier own. She is white and of course he is red. There for more pink siblings for him and more of his own kind so to speak. Might help him to fit in the family more and feel more accepted."

He was still indirectly declaring that pink wasn't good for a boy! It made her giggle softly, the fact that he preached about the personality being more important than colour. Maybe she was being too literal but given the topic and how he had expressed himself, she had automatically assumed he had been referring to the coat colour she loved so much. She found herself to be positively beautiful, she could pick up any stallion she wanted.

...She could just never hold on to him for long.

Hey, well she couldn't have everything in the world. She had been blessed with good looks and a mission from the spirits that she simply couldn't fail!

"My mother never really liked me much," She stated wistfully, as though it wasn't a bad thing. A small smile lined her lips and she gave a loose shrug, he had lived a very strange life in comparison to her. He didn't know his family and yet he knew his name? How was that even possible...?

"He should have more confidence in himself, he is the colour of a king and he should be aware that people adore that!" She chirped merrily.

"Your mother didn't like you? What mother wouldn't like a daughter such as yourself? You are smart and not to mention beautiful." he said not understanding what there was not to like about her.

With his own mother, he knew that something bad happened to her when he was young. Sometimes at night he would dream some really strange stuff and there was always blood and he thought that the female voice he heard in his dreams were his mothers but he could never be sure. They were always fragmented and as he grew they became even more so. The only way he could guess what his name was Dustin, was that was what the voice had always called out.

"Yes, he should be aware of that and he is becoming aware of it. I have seen other pink stallions about it's just he hasn't run into them yet and so doesn't know they exist." he said and then shurgged. "Also if pink is the color of kings, wouldn't that make you royalty as well?" he asked more to pay a compliment than anything else.
