I play only in distortion. I have a 70's mentality. When I wan a cooler jam, I just turn down the volume and adjust my tone knob.

Ever since I got my pedal, I can't stand clean unless played with an Acoustic. I like to turn up gain and treble and put on distortion.

I prefer distortion, but it really depends on what I'm playing

Well, I picked distortion because I use that more than a clean channel, but I use both depending on the song.

i use a line 6 amp with the distortion built right in so i can go to diffrent channels. It has clean (which i only used once),Crunch,Metal, and Insane(which i use the most)

for all of the metal players here who ONLY use distortion, you should really rethink that. if you ONLY use distortion, it's eventually going to become a crutch and you'll be sloppy as hell because you dont need to articulate what you're playing. i learn songs with a clean tone before moving to distortion.

I personally use distortion more... but I practice my chords, arpeggios, etc., in clean. And I have a song where I go in and out of the two like... 2 or 3 times. But I would rather use an acoustic than a clean electric guitar...!

[ Tre ] honestly, if i want a clean sound, i just play acoustic, which i do often, electric guitars on glean sound like they're made out of glass, and i dislike that. so if it's electric, it's gotta have CRUNCH, baby. yeah, same here. but i use my electric much more. so distortion wins by a lot

Like most people on here I prefer acoustic to clean, but I prefer clean to distortion. Though to be honest when I AM playing my electric I'm somewhere in-between. Sort of like Mr. Milk, only the other way round. So whereas he uses distortion with low volume, I play clean with compression (it's an effect, to newbies that basically mean extra volume =P). Distortion is always too heavy for me yet clean is never heavy enough, so it's perfect for me! It's a very indie sound, like Bloc Party or Arctic Monkeys. For those over the pond who might not have heard of these amazing brit bands, it's like the tone on RHCP's Can't Stop or Charlie. =) Having a telecaster in this situation always helps, man I want a tele SOOOOOOOOOO bad...

i play mostly blues, so i use mostly clean, glassy sounds, but if i want to really rock out, i hit em with a heavy distorted sound..
PS: guys, got any tips?? i want to copy YJ Malmsteen's sound.. got any ideas what effects i should use?? thanx domokun
