I used to post regularly there about two years ago, but I stopped because it got so repetitive.

Lifer: Abortion is wrong, and women who get abortions are whores.
Choicer: Personal opinion.
Lifer: OMG stop attacking me!

All they do is snigger in their guild about how they have such great arguments (and yet, they never team up to take us on in the ADT).
In all fairness, they put so much time and energy into their arguments it'd probably make them sad to see them ripped to shreds before their very eyes.

(I'm in a bit of a bitchy mood... Could you tell? xd )

It's not the ignorance that bothers me so much. It's ignorance PLUS the lack of will to at least look at the other perspective, which many people refuse to do, or will constantly harp on ONE view of it (like name omitted.) Or they will resort to personal attacks-much like [silly pro-lifer 1] and [silly pro-lifer 2]

TC's note: Again, no namedrops please.

The girl we've mentioned, who's been in the debate thread recently, gave us a similar little gem fairly recently. Somebody asked her to back up her opinions with facts, asked what her sources were, etc. I know this isn't exactly verbatim, but her response was:

"....appeal to emotion?"

....Words fail.

Um..wow..Thats just as bad as the ones that go "Why are you guys attacking I was just stating my opinions" after you ask them to provide backing for their sources.

Sorry to barge in and edit your posts, but it'd best to keep out names when ranting about pro-lifers in a publicly viewable guild.

I don't get irritated with pro-lifers, only with those people who don't consider ANY abortion acceptable, even if it was a coerced pregnancy or a rape. It seems like they're completely ignoring the pain of the women so they can stick to their vaunted ideals.

Pro-Lifers don't generally irritate me. I have a high tolerance for people who disagree with me. I attribute this to being an extremely liberal person living in an extremely conservative area. You want friends? Good luck finding someone anywhere near liberal as you. As long as the person in question in willing to accept me being me, I'm willing to accept them being them. Even if we do find each others views to be absolutely daft. If they aren't willing to deal with me having different views than they do . . . well, what's where the trouble starts.

But I try to avoid places like the Pro-Life guild. I'm not saying that the Pro-Life guild is inherently bad or anything, but it makes me sad ( emo ) to see people talking about "those evil Pro-Choicers" or something along those lines. I'm probably asking for it when I go to their guild (because I guess people need a place to rant their frustrations just like people rant their frustrations here) but that doesn't make it any easier to see. I imagine they feel the same way.

So I try to remind myself regularly, "Do not go over to that guild. You will just end up feeling sad."

And I'm profoundly glad I missed the, "and it's because they were abused as a child!" thread. I hate it when people pull that. Yes, I was abused as a child. That does not mean that absolutely everything a person doesn't like about me is a result of my being abused. "You're an atheist because you were abused! You're a feminist because you were abused! You're Pro-Choice because you were abused! You're 5'9" because you were abused!" Arg!

No, I'm all of those things (except I'm 5'7) because of oxytocin.

Props to those who get the joke. XD

I gotta ask how they explain me. I have one count of sexual abuse and I was at least leaning towards the opinions I've got already. I came to atheism, feminism and being pro-choice through my own conclusions and growth, not because a 'friend' mouth-raped me at 15.

I came to the conclusion of pro choice long before I did now, but now the reason I did stands strong again.

I want to have hot steamy pre marital non baby producing sex with my steamy Canadian boyfriend. Doesn't everyone? gonk

But no i'm lying, of course i became pro choice because daddy touches me at night, not because it's logical, sensible, and compassionate to living breathing feeling people.

For the love of God . . .

I wasn't abused at all, and I'm pro-choice, liberal, feminist, pacifist, pro-gay rights, pro-marijuana legalization, and Pagan! Sure, my last boyfriend treated me like s**t and emotionally abused me, but I was already like this. He just made me more of a feminist!

I haven't been on that thread in a while but I was recently banned from posting on a youtube account because I posted accurate medical information that showed the silent scream smudged the facts, if not flat out lied about them.

About five seconds after I posted all the information I was banned and my comments deleted.

It ticked me off a bit because I was being respectful in those posts.

I have very little respect for pro-lifers who refuse to believe logic and medical science.

Actually...I am pro-choice because I was raped. At least, that's what started my conversion. But I was already pretty liberal before that, just quiet about it, since voicing my views would've gotten me lynched, possibly by my teachers if not my classmates.

Yay for graduating high school and going to a liberal college. ^^;

I'm glad I never venture to the Pro-Life guild. I'd probably not be able to sleep because my blood pressure would be so high. I'm the kind of person who hates when people say and do ignorant things. It's as hard to deal with my brother, because he's mentally retarded, and he doesn't understand things. It had frustrated me to no end. Well, I'm over that now, but I still can't seem to overlook the ignorance of lifers. It's probably because they can actually do something about their ignorance. They aren't stupid because they were born that way, and can't help it. They're just too stubborn or too lazy to do anything about their stupidness.

I have very little respect for them too, and even less respect for pro-lifers that refuse to even listen to medical science. One of my friends is pro-life and she flips out whenever she hears someone within earshot (usually me) talking about the medical facts concerning abortion.

I hate it when we try to educate people and all they do is get grossed out and cover their ears. Sort of like a 5-year-old going "LA LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU LA LA LA LA LA!" It's immature. They refuse to learn the facts, much less believe them.
