It wasn't long before the pair reached the lake and with a running jump the tiny filly unceremoniously plunged into the water. Practising the words of wisdom provided by a Kelpi she had once met, the filly ensured her strokes were long and that she used her tail to turn back and forth. Confident in the water, she moved around much faster than she did on land.
"Jes' jump on in! See those silvery things underneath the water? The ones swimmin' around?" She seemed to tread water for a while as she watched the fish beneath her hooves before beginning to swim around in circles. "Once ye gets in I can show ye what's te do - but ye gots te get strong and happy in the water before we starts."
Behind her, her uncle remained on the shore - he preferred not to enter until both were in and safe.

Nix approached the lake and slowed down a bit, in awe and silent fear. It was...so much larger then the small stream back home..well, her strange home. The silent mare would usually peer at her reflection in it for times on end. "Its so-" she was going to say big but Honey had already gotten into the water, and seemed quite accustomed to it. Wow, she's fast... she mused looking on. Nix peered at Honey's uncle in silent question, at the silvery things and the water, though she stepped in a bit...it was cold and felt strange against her legs.
Did she really want to do this?
"Are you sure its okay?" she was nervous, she admitted it to herself at least. It looked strange, and the water felt funny, and plus, there was a whole lot of it there.

"Perfectly safe," Grencia waded in, unfurling his wings like a big net that would enable him to catch the two foals if they became trapped in any currents. Moving in until he was up to his shoulders, he glanced around briefly for security purposes before affording a smile. There was no one about, he could safely say that the pair would be safe and undisturbed for now.
"Now, when ye swimmin' try te take as much water under yer hooves as possible - big long strides!" Honey demonstrated, scooping through the water at a rather swift pace. Evidently something or someone else had taught her to swim and they probably weren't from the land given how good she was (and how at home she looked), "Then make sure te use ye tail as a way te turn," Wagging her tail to the left, she demonstrated how she turned to the right and then did the opposite to circle round.
"Practice fer a lil bit then we move on te the next lesson!"

Nix watched as Honey's uncle stepped within the water too, and she felt embarrassed that she was the only one who wasn't in the water. Nix took another step in so that the water level was just at her knees, and she nodded towards Honey who spoke about long strides. She was still nervous though, Nix even tried to keep her tail out of the water, but then it got wet and she gave up.
Taking another somewhat hop forward the water was at the base of her neck and she started moving her legs like Honey said, but she wasn't moving forward or anything, so she swung her tail, but that only made her lose her footing so she couldn't touch the bottom anymore. Squeaking and now flailing her legs Nix tried to keep her head up above the water, but she was starting to panic somewhat, and she made little squeaking panicky noises.
"I can 't touch the b-bottom anymore!" she said while flailing her legs. She thought she was doing this right!

Ack!
Just as well the 'uncle' was there, for he moved forward with little effort and calmly thrust his wing against the filly's side. Using the weight, he began to nudge her back towards where her hooves could feel the bottom once again and made certain to remain a little closer for the sake of safety - in truth, he was simply glad Honey had come to him first before scuttling off.
Things could have been much worse.
"It's okay!" Honey swam across and gave the filly a reassuring nuzzle before offering a smile, "It takes a wee while te get used to it, come one, we can do it together!" Wiggling her tail, she came to Nix's side and waited patiently - she'd do just what her daddy had done. She'd take it nice and slow and match Nix and her own strokes, then when she was more confident they could try fishing!

As soon as Honey's uncle touched a wing to he side Nix's legs started flailing even more and more, that is until she could safely touch the bottom with her hooves. She breathed heavily and looked into the water, watched as it rippled as droplets fell from her mane into it. It was strange...and scary, but interesting all at once.
Nix's eyes shot up, bright and blue as hte water and watched as Honey calmly came over and told her it was alright. It wasn't alright, she couldn't do this! It was hard, she needed wings or somehting to keep afloat...hmmm.
Flicking her tail Nix nodded not saying a word and tried again, hopped forward and swung her legs, hoping she'd stay afloat this time.
