Kal disregarded the first question. It wasn't hard, but he still didn't like having to ask for someone to introduce themselves. It wasn't proper.

"Van, then." He said as he eyed the smaller one, getting used to thinking of her with that name rather than simply as 'the filly'. "I have already seen enough of the world, staying in the same place for a time doesn't sound all that bad." It was the only choice he had, so he had better like it.

She couldn't imagine that. She liked home and knew that even after she was grown she'd come back and visit but she never thought she'd stay in one place for too long. It just didn't seem right or any fun. She wanted to explore and learn.

"I just don't see it. How can you even begin to understand everything if you only see a small part of it." She fluffed out her wings as she huffed.

"Exactly." Kal said. If she knew the whole picture, she would understand why he was perfectly happy right where he was. But there was no way he would ever, ever admit to the filly that he was truly afraid of the dark.

If it wasn't for that weakness, Kal would have been able to wander and explore wherever he wanted, without having to worry about returning for the night. He felt a breeze ruffle through his mane, and he sighed as he turned to face it.

She shook her head and frowned up at him. "Exactly isn't a good answer, responce, whatever to that." She didn't elaborate as to why it wasn't but she was starting to form some more concrete thoughts.

He had to be afraid of the dark or something like it. Unless he was a spook there was no reason for him to go shooing her off after dark and not wanting to walk her home either. He was afraid she'd see something and would either dislike him for it or make fun of him.

"Exactly is a good enough response to your statement." Kal said, without looking down at her. He sighed again and reminded himself that she was still a filly, so it would only be polite to explain despite how much annoyance and distress she was causing.

"I can't leave here," he said, turning his head from the wind to face her. "So even though I've only seen a small part of the world, I won't be able to see anything more. Wishing for more will just cause unnecessary misery, so I would be better off living content with what I have seen."

She found that rather silly but didn't say anything else about it. He had wings and that meant he could cover distances that others only dreamed of. If he'd just bother to stop hiding his head under them that is, at lest metaphorical. He was just scared of something.

Kal was half surprised she didn't simply accuse him of being a spook again. Although this time it would have been some kind of cursed spook who was doomed to haunt somewhere forever, and then she would have had to ask where his graveyard was.

Or maybe now it was just him with the overactive imagination. He certainly hoped there weren't any cursed spooks living in the area.

No reply was a bit odd for the argumentative little filly, and Kal found himself turning again to look away.

She grinned and tapped him on the nose with a wing. "Got you thinking didn't i?" She had seen the small look of thought cross his face as she was silent. That was better than him always correcting her. Now if she could just get him to admit he was a spook or whatever it was.

"I was just surprised you didn't call me a spook again," he said honestly, and smiled almost sheepishly as he pulled his head away from her wing. On impulse he reached out with his own wingtip and poked her nose. She was always poking at him, so it made sense in the moment.

The filly was definitely better company when she wasn't trying to argue with him, but he could only guess at how long it would last.

"Haven't decided if you are or aren't yet though." He was still acting suspicious even if he didn't think so. Her nose scrunched as she was poked and she batted his wing away with one of her own.

She hadn't really liked getting poked herself but she doubted that would stop her from doing it to anyone else either.

"I said I wasn't, there's nothing to decide." Kal replied, pulling his wing back and resettling it against his flank. It was absurd, he didn't even look like a spook with his white and gold colours, and small size on top of that. Spooks were supposed to be dark and menacing, with glowing eyes and frightening fangs, and he certainly didn't fit the description on any of those measures.

As if to emphasize how un-spookish he was, an unfamiliar plant caught his eye at that very moment and completely distracted him. The little stallion just couldn't resist dropping his head to nibble at the new plant.

"But you didn't correct me as to what you were either. Spooks are suppose to be crafty so you could just be trying to dodge the question." She flicked a curl out of her face with a wing and grinned at him.

"I'd be careful with that .. leaves a nasty aftertaste if you get the stems." She'd eaten the plant before and had then spent too long filling her mouth with saltwater to get rid if the unpleasant sticky taste.

Her advice came too late, the entire not-bad tasting plant vanished into Kal's mouth in an instant. He was half way through munching on it when he heard her warning, but at that point the not-bad taste had been replaced by something altogether horrible and disgusting.

He fought back the urge to react, but his nose wrinkled unwillingly as he swallowed the plant. "H-how would you know, have you ever met any spooks?" The little stallion asked, trying awfully hard to just go on as though nothing had happened.

She watched him eat the plant and then started laughing. Waggling a wing at him she turned slightly so that he couldn't see how hard she was laughing.

"You must be a spook. No one would willingly eat those things." Her words dissolved into giggles again for a moment. "So ...maybe you eat souls then? That would explain why you wouldn't know not to eat the plants."

Kal's willpower completely crumbled, and he had to duck his head and scrub at his mouth with a wing in hopes of getting the foul taste to go away. It didn't work, and he tossed his head and then desperately gnawed on some of the surrounding grasses.

"I'm not from around here, these plants are unfamiliar," he somehow managed to say miserably. "I don't eat souls." He quickly went back to chewing on the bland and unoffensive grasses.
