It's alright as a series (Twilight by itself is excellent) but Bella got to be such an annoying character in New Moon. It's worth a read, but it also depends on how much of a character's whining you can take: I was getting sick from Bella's melodramatic streak. Eclipse made up for New Moon, but it was still a bit of a drag.

I'd recommend if you love a vampire-human love story. I think its very predictible, but i think its an 'okay' book. I have read the whole series, but I have read better books.

If I put all of the time It took to read those books for me it would only be 5 days. I devoured all three of them, personaly I love them but if you don't like gushy 'I loveyou' books then its not the right book for you. I can handle it but only because of the vampire twist.

Annie Havok-Morphine It's generic, "wasted cash"-as you put it-if you ask me. But, hey, it you like overly-perfect characters, and dramatic forbidden-love stories where the two people are pretty much obessesed with each other, then go buy it. It was well-written, but the plot was so obviously in love with itself that it just cancels out the quality of writing. I agree very much with this. The main character reminded me of a Mary-Sue, and I didn't like the way vampires worked in that universe. Plus, I've never been a big fan of teen romance.

My English teacher is in love with the books. I borrowed the first one from her because she made it sound good. I found it be crap, and like you were all saying, Bella is a major Mary Sue.

Bella is indeed a mary-sue. It's pretty much evident in the entire novel. Bella is a 'normal' girl who attracts strange boys but is not beautiful, comes from a 'broken' family ( divorced parents ), is clumsy and has the eyes of every male in her class at some point. I might as well go out and buy Sailor Moon comics. 55% of the book is about the two lovers obsessing over each other and it can become tiring. I actually found one of my favourite parts was the brief time she spent with Angela in 'Eclipse' and liked New Moon all the more because she wasn't obsessing over Edward so often. However I really got tired of the 'hole in my stomach' crud, and repeatedly calling Edward an angel in the last chapter of Twilight, really annoyed me. I could walk into the Gaia RP forums and find the same characters and plot ideas. What Stephenie has done isn't new, just well written.
Stephanie's style is vivid and flows easily. She can have her characters in humorous situations with out changing who they are, and I actually really liked the novel. I own three copies of Twilight right now, each with different international covers. I have the apple in the hands, the UK one and the Chinese cover, a gift from a friend who went there. I actually plan on flying over -hopefully- to see her on the breaking dawn tour.
To finish, Twilight is a good read if you like the generic 'My boyfriend's a vampire but I love him anyway!' thing. But My suggestion as an alternate would be 'Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr' It is similar in the fact that the main girl is being sought after by a being not from our world, but it had more folklore base to it and the characters are not mary-sue, at all. The main Lover boy is over confident and it's actually the side character who you really start to sympathise with.
-end contribution-

I thought it was a terriffic book. And I agree..it could be more mature, but for a young adult book, it wasn't that bad. I am completly obsessed. Its especially good if you like vampire romance and the hastled life of a teenager.

I positively loved it. I've read the series I don't know how many times, and even my mother knows the basics because I talk about it quite a bit (She's never read it.) I would definitely recommend it.

I think that the Twilight series are one of those books that you read the first time and think it's awesome, but when you actually think about what you read you realize that it's a very trite plot. Definitely recommended, though, because (as mentioned above) Meyers is a very good author. It's a pity, if only her plot wasn't so overused....

I love Twilight, it's an amazing rewriting of Romeo and Juliet. A teenage story of forbidden love. If you like Romeo and Juliet, you'll like Twilight. Meyer is an amazing author, and it's an amazing portrayal of every young teen girl's dream. To not have to be perfectly beautiful to get an amazingly attractive boyfriend that is honorable and a gentleman. A knight in shining armor, white steed and all. If you read it, I hope you like.

it is SOOOO worth it!!! they are amazing books, and i am highly anticipating the release of the movie and forth and fifth books. i haven't met a person to read then and not like them. my whole family is addicted to the whole vampire-werewolf so it is a good series in my opinion if we are all addicted.

Uh, I personally really didn't care for her writing style, to tell the truth. Perhaps she was just trying to keep that voice that of a teenage girl, but I feel the writing was juvinille. It reminded me of silly love stories I wrote in the eighth grade and have the decency not to thrust upon an unsuspecting internet.
I can't help but feel that if you want silly teen supernatural romance, you should be able to produce as good as hers on your own.
