Her gaze shifted to the other side of the room. Most radios she'd seen needed you to press a button in order to communicate with whoever was on the other end. Was this radio like that? If so, there was no way that she was going to reach it. She turned back to the door. She wouldn't answer. Call her paranoid or cynical, but there was something about disembodied voices that made her uneasy.

Then her wrist started to go numb as well, so she reassessed. Either, talk to that voice or lay here until she fainted from blood looss, exhaustion, or boredom.

I choose... disembodied voice.

"Yes. Yes, I can hear you. Can you hear me? Who are you? What is this place? Why am I here? My hand is mutilated... can you help me?" She stopped there... maybe it wasn't a good idea to ask so many questions at once.

((Tau))

The voice seemed to harbor approval.

Whispering now, it continued...

"Good. I'll send my man in here to deal with you. We must hurry, though. This monitor was meant for its owner to relish in your screams...torment you. When he realizes we've switched his with an old walkie-talkie, he won't be too happy. Now, hold tight!"

The red light blinked and clicked off suddenly...oh, no...

Footsteps! There was someone at the door! He was working at it...measuring something...

BANG!

The door flew open with a burst of light and cloud of smoke. Holy s**t!

A figure began to approach in the mist...

And when he came to sight...he looked friendly. Thank God.

He was...mildly attractive, with bright blue crystal eyes, azure locks that always have his undivided attention, and fair skin. His build is a little stocky; his muscular yet 5'8" body seemingly toned for combat. Sort of. When all was said and done, he looked a little like he was "trying" to look badass.

Whatever. He was here. And he was help.

Without a word, the unknown savior dashed to your side and began loosening all the wires. In a minute's time, you were free. Free! Without a second glance, he pulled out a 9MM handgun and pointed it straight at your face. Eyes widened with a mixture of fear and determination, he did not seem to quiver. Was this all a joke? When you didn't respond, he began to bark out orders and questions.

"You...W-Who is your Lord? Hm? Who do you live under? Do you serve the dark master Kefka? TELL ME!"

Now that she was free, all Tau really wanted to do was examine her hand, but needless to say, the barrel of the gun provided sufficient distraction. Slowly, she raised her hands, palms out (like she had with police so many times before) and regarded the man threatening her life.

He didn't look like one easily fooled by feminine charms and... she didn't have many. So she spoke frankly, as she always did, her tone mirroring the disdain and determined caution in his. "I've never heard of the dark master Kefka and I serve no one but myself. Never met a lord and even if I did I sure as hell wouldn't live under him. I get into enough trouble without big-brother peeking over my shoulder every moment. Satisfactory?" She didn't wait for an answer. "Good. Now, I'd appreciate it if you'd get that gun out of my face. I plan on leaving this room with or without your help -- thank you, by the way, for freeing me -- but if you don't get that. gun. out. of. my. face. our acquaintance will end here."

It was how she talked to the tough guys and prevy drunks at the bar. She just hoped her don't-mess-with-me tone would work here... and not get her killed.

((Tau))

The man lowered the gun, relief streaked across his wet brow.

"Thank God...you're not one of Them."

Without anything more than another nod of the head and a relaxed state, the man disappeared...

What the hell?

Hm. Maybe he wasn't real...

Them? What the hell was going on? This place was weird... she needed to get out. But, before she left the room aimlessly... why not benefit from some of the furnishings?

She approached the wires and carefully examined them to see if they were loose. But, she recanted that thought and left the lethal things alone. She already filleted one hand. There was no use disabling the other.

So, Tau turned her attention to the walking talkie. Tapping on it gently she whispered, "You man disappeared. What do I do now?"

((Tau))

There was no reply.

Such enigmas...

<********. I hate this place. With a sigh, Tau turned back to the door, intent on leaving. But before she did that, she looked around... was there anything in here worth stealing. And small enough.

She felt around for pockets. No use being unprepared.

((Tau))

Why, of course! The room!

Now that she could see, it was easy to tell that the leftmost corner behind where her head lay on the table had a large grate of sorts. It most likely led to an air duct.

Now, there was also a small desk, devoid of anything on it, to the right of the table. There was, however, one long drawer under the furniture's face. Right above the desk was the radio. Cool.

But, aside from the blood, that was it. The table was supported by one huge steel column in the middle, implanted directly to the ground. Neat.

"Curiouser and curiouser," she muttered, taking in her surroundings. She looked down at her left hand and wished that she hadn't damaged it... crawling through the air duct might have been an option then.

But, since she couldn't, she decided to open the drawer and take a closer look at the radio. Was this the one the man had referred to?

((Tau))

Well, the radio was, you know, the one she'd been speaking into. It was higher up, and therefore was in sight while the desk was not.

As for the drawer...

[man, I thought it was a different radio...]

((Tau))

...it was locked. Well, that sucked.

Hm. It was probably a good idea to try and get out of there by now. People might have started to suspect foul play after, you know...the whole explosion.

She grumbled something under her breath, coming to terms with the fact that she did, in fact, have to leave the room. It wasn't that she was scared. No... no... just...

Well, she wasn't going to admit to fear so there is very little use staying on that topic. With a deep breath she approached the doorway. Using as much stealth as she could, Tau peeked out the doorway and scanned to the right and left.

I feel like I'm about to cross a street... this is stupid.

((Tau))

The coast was clear, for now. However, she definitely had the sinking feeling that that would change all too soon...

The hallway stretched to her left and right, with doors lining the walls on either side. The white hall was darkened, and few lights were actually on in the place, giving it a sort of...deserted hospital ward feel to it. Though nothing special seemed to stick out in the hall, the...1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7...20 rooms that she could see all could hold a wealth of protection and knowledge...

The only problem was -

Which one to choose?

Which one indeed. Well, the left side didn't seen too favorable to her (consider the situation with her hand) so for now, she decided to head to the right. But which door to check? There had to be some sort of clue...

But there wasn't.

I really hate this place. Mentally she sighed, and picked the sixth door she passed. First she checker the door for any particular signs - anything to distinguish it from the others. Only after that first examination did she place her hand on the knob and turn.
