Kayne watched her as she answered him and could tell she wasn't telling him the complete truth. Smirking softly, he looked down at her scars and let out a low whistle.
"Those are nice," he smirked and winked at her as he pulled the door open to a small campus cafe. Smiling as she returned his question he shrugged and led the way over to a small table.
"I've been good. What can I say? Life is too short and all that," he smirked plopping down in one of the chairs. "I've been working on my sports medicine degree, though my coach was trying to get me to pay attention to some recruiters. I'm not sure about all that yet though. I'd like to have something fall back on, you know?" he smiled as he watched her. He didn't like the shadow that seemed to be in her eyes, he decided as he reached out and toyed with an unused napkin that had been left on the table top.

Jess smiled as she listened to him and felt a sense of pride at the person he had become. She had always known he was born for more than fights and getting into trouble. "You've done really well for yourself." She said with a nod of her head and a genuine smile. Sitting she pulled out the menus and handed him one. "And having something to fall back on is good. I mean, look at me. Can't compete and none of the dojos will take me, so I'm back here. I was thinking of taking a literature and education course though, part time whilst I work. get myself some kind of qualifications."

Kayne smiled broadly and nodded as he took the menu from her. "You really should Jess. Can't hurt, right?" he said with a warm smile. "I have to admit I owe a lot to you. A lot of the things you said to me and the way you believed in me. All of that really meant a lot. Probably more than you'll ever know," he smiled and leaned back in his seat, stretching one of his long legs out.
"So what are you teaching here? Just dojo stuff or another subject as well?" he asked.

Jess smirked and placed a hand on her heart. "Aww stop kaybe you're going to make me cry." She joked, giving him a wink. "Though, you helped me too." she said with a smile, leaving it at that. He would never know how much his lectures on her actually being worth something got her through the bad times.
"I'm sticking to the dojos. Teaching archery, and some easy training classes. I'm still rebuilding a lot of my old strength up so can't fully spar yet." She shrugged and smiled. "So maybe you'll be able to beat me now." she challenged. "or are you into girly sports like soccer now?"

Kayne laughed at the use of his old petname, then smirked at her challenge. "I could beat you before. I was just taking it easy on you so you wouldn't feel bad," he smirked and tapped his finger lightly on the menu as he watched her. "My main focus has shifted to soccer, though I do enjoy slipping away to the dojos every now and again. I have to keep my edge you know," he smirked.

Jess smirked and rolled her eyes. "yeah, right you were." She said, pulling the ashtray towards her and slipping a pack of cigarettes out of her pocket. "That's cool though. There's a lot of money in soccer." She said, offering the pack to him and slipping one between her lips. "You can have a nice big house and several blonde bitches in your hot tub." She smirked as she lit up.

"Ew. I don't do blond," he smirked and reached for her pack. Sliding one out, he handed it back to her and waited for her lighter. "That's just a bit too weird for me. Brunettes on the other hand," he smirked and winked at her. "Besides, there's only a lot of money in soccer if you've got the talent. Coach said I did, but we'll see what this one says," he said with a shrug.
"Where are you staying? Here on campus again?" he asked, taking her lighter and lighting up.

Jess nodded and exhaled a poisonous cloud. "Right, and it's really not worth it. Believe me. You'd be better off sticking to your medicine and playing soccer on the side." She smirked a little at his question and thought for a moment. It was a damn good one. "Nowhere at the moment." She said, looking down at her calloused hand. "I don't want to stay on campus but I can't find a decent place off. The dojo leader offered me the apartment above the dojo, but it's still on campus. I'm going to call some hotels in a bit, or sleep in my car." She shrugged. "I'd crash at B's but Ra's living there at the moment."

Kayne smirked as he exhaled and slid her cigarette across the table to her. At her answer to his question, he arched his brow in surprise, then gave a snort of laughter.
"Your car? Seriously? That won't do Jess. Knowing your taste in cars, it'll be much too small for comfort. And why spend the money on a hotel? I would take the apartment. At least until you find something else," he said watching her. Smirking, he dropped his eyes down to the glowing end of his cigarette. "If you were absolutely desperate I'd offer my sofa for you to crash on."

Jess smirked and inhaled. "Hmm, tempting offer there, but I don't want to cramp your style." She shrugged and nodded. "Looks like I'll have to, though it's really old and gross. I might have to bite the dust and stay on campus anyway." She rolled her eyes a little. "it's just to social. You know me. i like to keep to myself."

Kayne laughed and nodded. "Well, just so you know the offer is there. Now's a good time as I've just moved in and it's still clean," he smirked and reached out to flick some ash into the ashtray. "If you want, I can keep my ears open for any students moving out of anywhere for you."

Jess smirked and shook her head. Looking away again and staring out the window. "No, it's all right." She said breathing deeply and frowning a little. "I'll find somewhere. But thanks, If this place leaks or has roaches I'll so be knocking on your door."
She flicked some ash off and turned back to him. "Well, this was good. Catching up with small talk." She gave a snort of laughter. "Very typical for us."

Kayne smirked as he watched her face. Laughing, he nodded as she said what would bring her knocking on his door. "Alright then. Your loss," he smirked and winked at her, extinguishing his cigarette. "It was good talking with you. I admit I'm glad you're here. For a moment I was afraid all I'd have to keep me entertained was Kusani," he smirked and gave his head a shake as he bent down to pick up his ball and boots from the floor. "I should let you get back to your dojo. I've got to get some practice in before I tryout," he smiled and rose to his feet. "Seriously though, if you need me, I'm in room 207. Even if it's just for a chat," he smiled.

Jess smiled and nodded. "Cheers hon." Shesaid, picking up her tea and comitting the number to memory though not really wanting to use it. That was all over, time to move on no matter how difficult it might seem. She should have known to go elsewhere if she wanted a truely new life. "Later." She said with a wave.
