"Just so you know Obie-chan, if you think I'm going to help you against Mimi you're slightly mistaken. I don't want to fight him and I'm too tired to even try."

He sighed and slumped back into the pillows, rubbing his eyes with two of his fingers in aggitation. Dealing with Izumi was bad enough on occasion but now that Obsidian had thrown herself into the mix Makito was getting a headache.

"But that doesn't mean I'll allow it if you try and hurt her, Mimi. So both of you chill, I'm getting a headache."

Obie sighed a little and dropped her eyes down to her lap. She should have just stuck to keeping their relationship over the phone and texts, she thought as she looked down at her hands. But she rather enjoyed visiting Makito. She just wished Izumi was not a part of the picture.

"Well... I don't really have many options, now do I Makito-chan? Either way I'll fall victim to his cruelty just for trying to come here and spend some time with you," she said, looking up and over at the boy still standing in the door way. Smirking slightly, she leaned back in her seat and crossed her legs at the knee. "So are you just going to continue to stand there and sulk in the doorway Izumi? Or are you going to join us properly?" she asked, watching him carefully. "You might as well since you've come all this way to see Makito," she shrugged a little.

"I'd rather not move because I have the feeling I'd stab you in the face. It's just a feeling though."

Izumi shrugged his shoulders casually and then recrossed his arms, his brown eyes still watching the pair that sat in the room before him. In reality he had no weapon on him to actually injure Obsidian, as whenever Izumi came to visit Makito he prefered to be unarmed and free-spirited.

"He's blowing steam out his a** again, ignore it."

Makito had pulled out his reading glasses and set them on his nose, his focus now set on the book that Obsidian had gifted him with. He was pretty excited for this new volume.

"Geez, you're cruel. What if I just said I wanted to play with Obie-chan and not hurt her? Wouldn't that be okay, Obie-chan, Maki-chiin?"

Obie gave a soft snort of laughter at Makito's words and reached for the book he had been reading when she had walked in.
"Who says that I would want to have anything to do with you in the first place Izumi-kun?" she asked, not looking up from the page of the book she had randomly flipped to. "Can't you just sit and be in your friend's company without getting bent out of shape? I've never done anything to you and I never will," she said turning her blue eyes up to him briefly before looking back down at the book she was holding.

Izumi inwardly bit his lower lip and then shrugged his shoulders, suddenly not caring anymore about anything around him. Obsidian had bent him out of shape to be sure, and he had more than one reason to dislike her.

First off he didn't care that she and Makito were still talking to one another - he still talked to Haruka and a few others from the school himself. Secondly, he didn't like her because she was an alcoholic whore. The fact that she had slept around before and also drank like a fish rubbed him wrong.

"..."

Izumi didn't say anything as he turned and left the room, causing Makito to raise an eyebrow and look up with a slight expression of confusion.

Obie looked up as Izumi did not reply to her and watched him turn and walk out. Swallowing a little, she closed the book she was holding and set it back down on the bed beside Makito as she looked up at him. Seeing the look of confusion on his face unsettled her a little and she breathed in deeply as she looked back over to the door.

"That was a bit odd. He usually has to get the last word in," she mused, continuing to watch the door. Now that he was out of sight, she was beginning to get a little more nervous. He could be any where and he could more than likely make good on his threats if he wanted to.

"Makito-chan... I don't understand. What did I ever do to him to make him dislike me so much?" she asked, reaching up to tuck some of her dark hair behind her ear, a typically nervous gesture if anyone cared to notice.

Before Makito could answer a loud cracking sound came from a few rooms down the hall and was soon followed by the urgent and angry voices of nurses and patients alike. Two of the nurses that were usually at the main check station hustled past the open door towards the noise, chattering in hurried and excited Japanese.

"...."

A few minutes later a few children rushed past carrying their stuffed animals and speaking happily, a smile on their faces like they were so glad that they were privy to a secret of sorts. One of the nurses followed close behind them shaking her head and talking about calling a repair man, and a few moments after her Izumi and the second nurse walked by.

"Mi-"

With each step Izumi took he left behind a small droplet of deep red blood that poured from and over what appeared to be two cleary broken fingers. The bone was poking through at the second joint and the dying nerves surrounding the torn tissue seemed to twitch, causing the blood to keep running over and not clot as it should. When Izumi was fully in front of the doorway and was better visable, the expression he wore on his face caused Makito to jump to his feet and head for the door, ignoring the fact that he jsut ripped the IV out of his arm along with several of his moniter sensors.

Izumi was smiling, and it was the smile he always wore right before he killed someone.

Obie jumped at the loud sound that cracked throughout the hallway and turned her blue eyes to the doorway to watch the flurry of activity that passed by. As Izumi and the nurse appeared, she was on her feet before she had even fully realized what it was she was seeing. Swallowing hard at the bloody mess that covered his destroyed hand, she started to take a small step forward then stopped herself. She knew she'd be asking for trouble if she tried to go after them. But then Makito jumped out of the bed causing all of his monitors to go haywire and she quickly moved to step in front of him.

"Makito no. You're not supposed to be exerting yourself," she said, reaching out to put a hand on his chest to stop him from leaving his room. "They'll take care of him."

"Obsidian."

Makito's voice was sharp and cold as he spoke her name, turning his head so he could face her and look directly at her while speaking. He moved her hand from his chest with an usual amount of force and stepped out into the hallway, his gaze following the nurses and Izumi towards the elevator.

"While Izumi is gone, you have to leave here. If he comes back for you even I won't be able to stop him without using some serious force."

Makito was dead serious, dead worried. Izumi was going to break his promise all right - by killing Obsidian. And with that he knew it wouldn't be a slow death, he'd probably torture her.

Obie cringed at the sharpness in Makito's voice as he spoke her name and remained where she stood after he shoved her hand away and went to the hallways anyways. Watching him with concern, she looked past him briefly at his warning then looked back into his eyes. She could see he was being serious. She knew he was not one to fool around about such things. Glancing around the room, she ran her fingers through her hair once more then stepped towards the door.

"Alright then," she said softly, glancing down the hallway towards the elevator. "I'm sorry I cause you so much trouble Makito. I only wanted to come and wish you a happy birthday. Promise me you will be alright?" she asked, turning to look up at him, her concern for him still clear to see in her eyes.

"He won't hurt me. Izumi...would never hurt me because he-"

Makito stopped his sentence and turned to Obsidian again, grabbing her wrist and heading towards the elevator. He was careful to avoid the drops of blood on the floor that had yet to be cleaned (though he could see a janitor in the distance coming with a mop and bucket), and when they finally reached the metal doors he released her arm.

"If...if Izumi catches you before you can get outside, just do your best to stay alive. I don't know what he could and is would do to you, but I'm begging you now. Once you hit the bottom floor, run."

He leaned in and gave his small friend a quick kiss on the cheek, one of both friendly affection and hope for her safety. Deep inside Makito knew that Obsidian was someone dear to him more as a person than anything else...and the thought of her being hurt by Izumi once more chilled his blood.

"Take care, okay?"

Those were his last words as the elevator pinged, indicating that the car had reached the floor and was settling before it would open up. As the gears wooshed and the doors pinged as they slid open he felt his hope falter. A hand snaked it's way out, covered on two fingers in plaster and bandages and grabbed Obsidian under the chin, yanking her backwards and into the box before hitting the 'close door button'.

"Izumi! Obsidian!!"

Obie allowed herself to be led down the hall, watching her steps to make sure she did not step in the trail of blood. When they stopped at the elevator, she looked up at Makito as he spoke and could feel her blood run cold at his request. Glancing towards the door, she blinked as she felt his lips against her cheek. Looking up at him as he pulled away, she managed a small smile for him and nodded as she nervously rubbed her wrist were a thin pink scar still graced her skin.

"I promise. I'll be alri..." she had started to reassure him as the elevator settled behind her and she heard the doors slide open. She had only a second to register the look on Makito's face before she was yanked back into the elevator. Falling hard to the floor, ice poured through her veins as she saw Izumi. She tried to push herself up to her feet in time to slip through the doors, but they were already closed by the time she reached them. Feeling her heart begin to race in fear, she stared at her dull reflection in the brushed stainless steel of the doors in front of her before turning to face Izumi.

Izumi looked down on Obsidian with a tight-lipped smile on his face, his eyes glaring down with more expression than anything else. There seemed to a glint in them that spoke, the phrase being 'what should we do first, hm?'.

"Well now."

He moved towards the smaller girl, backing her up and against the display panel of all the floor buttons before stopping mere inches away from her frame. He could almost feel her tremble in front of him in fear, and with a little snicker he reached his left hand forward and slid it past her hips, reaching for the emergency shut off key. Once it was in his fingers he turned it quickly and pulled it out, amused as the elevator sighed and shuddered to a complete stop between the fifth and sixth floor.

"There we go."

Izumi's hand moved back and he tossed the key up ito the air a few times before catching it with his teeth, letting the metal rest there for a few moments. His expression now was more of a challange to Obisidian, daring her to dash forward and get her only means of safety and freedom away from him.

--

"Izumi, Izumi!!"

Makito pounded his hands on the cold steel of the elevator door, his expression wild and his eyes wide. It was too late, he knew there was no way he could help Obsidian now - she was trapped in the cage with the beast.

Obsidian tried her hardest to make herself as small as possible as the taller boy leaned in over her. Searching his face and not liking what she saw there, she felt as if her heart might explode at any moment, even more so when he reached behind her. She knew, even before he did it, what it was he was going to do, and swallowed hard as she felt the elevator come to a halt. Breathing a slight bit easier as he backed away a little, her blue eyes followed the key as he tossed it in the air and she clenched her hands tightly as it found a resting place between his teeth. She could see the challenge as clearly as if he had spoken it and dropped her eyes away from him as she tried to think of what her options were. There weren't many, that was for sure and she had the distinct feeling that none of them would help her really.

"Izumi... please don't do this. I'll do what ever you ask of me, but... please let me go," she begged softly, the fear she was feeling making her throat tight.

Izumi frowned right away as Obsidian started to beg and plead with him and without a second thought he backhanded her across the face, sending her violently backwards into the elevator corner. He watched her body as it contacted the wall hard and started to buckle down but Izumi decided he wouldn't let her fall after one hit. He reached his hand over and grabbed her by the throat, lifting her into a standing position where he wasn't choking her and her feet were still firmly on the ground.

"..."

He didn't feel like wasting his breath to answer her so instead of speaking he simply pulled her forward and then smashed her backwards, enjoying the sound of her skull hitting the metal. It rang like a bell in his opinion instead of bone hitting solid matter. Of course any groaning in pain or screams that Obsidian let off during the repeated ordeal only seemed to make him happier as his frown slowly faded away into a malicious grin, his eyes wide and unblinking.

After ramming Obsidian into the wall a few more times he tossed her to the side and let go of her throat, listening to her cough for air when she collasped. He wasn't done though, oh yes. He was far from done.
