"Three sisters, and some half siblings." Nu nodded. She'd only met on half sister besides her litter mates, and of her three full sisters the one she really got on was Umbia. And even then she was often distant because she was such a dreamer.
Really, she was getting on better with Taf at the moment than her own flesh and blood. The thought made her feel awful and her nose scrunched up in thought.

Taf blinked as she described having half-siblings, not sure what that meant exactly. He had no idea that your parents could have cubs with other creatures, and his parents seemed least likely of all to do such a thing, in his view. Any pre-planned questions about their names were forgotten when the strange idea came up.
"How do you have half-siblings?" he asked, tilting his head curiously at her. He quickly noticed that she didn't look so pleased, and his own nose wrinkled. Was something wrong?

"How does anyone? My dad had cubs with another lionness before my mother." She had no idea that everyone didn't have half-siblings. Nu thought that her father and the other female were 'not friends anymore', since only her half-sister seems to bother with the younger litter. Which was kind of sad..
"Don't you have any?"

Tafasuri shrugged immediately as Nu asked how anyone would have half-siblings. He really didn't know, and when Nu explained how her father had had cubs with someone other than her mother, Taf looked surprised. He opened his mouth to arge the impossibility of the idea, but he quickly shut it when he realized he didn't really know how you got cubs. Maybe it was possible, he'd have to ask his dad when he got home.
If he found his way again.
"I don't have any, not that I know of," he answered, shaking his head firmly. Taf's mom and dad loved him and his siblings so much, wouldn't they love half-siblings as much? He'd know if he did, he figured.

'Oh...I thought everyone had them." Nu shrugged, puzzled and now wondering if that was why they didn't all get on. Maybe it was unusual to have half-siblings? Bah! She dismissed such thoughts. Things were getting too gloomy. She'd switch the subject back to names - but how? She didn't feel like going through half sibling names, and she didn't really remember her parents names. They were just 'mother and father', 'mum and dad'. She'd never been with them when others were about.
"If you had cubs, what kind of names would you called them? Like, what kind of names do you like?"

"Maybe," Taf mumbled at the idea of everyone having them. He didn't know if this meant his family was odd or if her family was, or maybe it was even or not so unusual that it made neither of them odd at all! When Nu asked about if he ever had cubs, Taf wrinkled his nose. He was so young, and as he realized when trying to figure out half-siblings he didn't really know how to have cubs. He'd never even tried naming anything before.
"Well, I like my name," he answered with a shrug, "I guess. Naming cubs after others y'know might be interesting, they can sound funny even if they don't mean anything. Like naming something after you and me could be like.." Taf paused, trying to think of a funny way to smoosh their names together.
"Liiiike, Nutafha," Taf said with as serious a face as he could manage. He decided sticking his name in the middle of hers worked best. His serious expression didn't take long to turn into a grin accompanied by a snicker. Mom and dad were better at this.

"Tanurifa. Or Nufasri." Nurisha tilted her head, trying to fit the sounds of their names together in a way that sounded genuine. His parents must have been great with names, she thought, to be able to name Taf after more that two people. "...too much of the uri sound, we both have it. I think I'd rather name things than cubs."
She looked around, working out where exactly they were. Hmm, hadn't he been looking for a way home? Nu knew her way to her den from here, and to her favourite thing place, a good waterhole for swimming in...a variety of places. So it should be easy enough helping him.
"Where are you going, Tafasuri?"

Taf's laughter silenced when Nu offered much nicer sounding names, or nicer in his opinion. He'd say he was aiming for silly sounding names, but he'd been trying and he knew he was shown up by the little lioness. She too was obviously better at this, Taf was obviously just the kind of cub you give these names to, not ask to come up with more.
"You're good at putting names together, even if that sound is stuck there," he said confidently, nodding. When she suddenly asked where he was going, he was caught off guard and only looked confused for a moment until he remembered what he'd been doing before she showed up.
"Oh!" he exclaimed, standing up and looking all around them, "I was trying to find my way home, I was taking a look around and I can't remember which way I came from now."

"Really? I think my two sound...over the top." Despite her efforts, they sounded too contrived to be real names. Maybe it was simply because she knew they were false with no real meaning behind them. No purpose because no cub'd ever be named after them. How odd would that be?
"Where abouts is your home? What's it near?"

"I don't think so," Taf replied with a confident shake of his head. They weren't bad names, but he too realized that it was very unlikely anything would be named after them so whatever their opinions were and however they varied, it didn't matter a great deal. He took another look around them to see if anything familiar would pop out of the scenery.
"Well, we live by a bunch of rocks, like a den kinda," he explained awkwardly, "I know I had to pass by the funny looking rock to get here, and there was the tree that had leaves only on the side that pointed towards the other different funny rock.." Tafasuri paused, knowing his strange way of remembering the correct way home probably just made him look silly. It was a good system, he found it worked very well for him- until he lost track of one landmark and couldn't figure out his way back. He grinned sheepishly.

"I know the weird tree. I sit under it an daydream sometimes." Nu smiled, briefly recalling some of those daydreams. Another instance of her getting away from her family and cooly waiting until bedtime before going back. She needed time away, sometimes...just to dream. Umbia sometimes was by the border near their den watching the forest as if she too wanted to get away, too, which is why she sometimes went to the tree.
"I've always wondered why it only has leaves on one side. But I've never noticed that it pointed to a funny rock before."

Taf immediately perked up when Nu said she knew where the tree was, grinning widely. He would be able to find his way home after all, and in the process would be able to figure out the way to and from here.
"Yeah, it's really weird," he repeated for emphasis on the fact the tree only had leaves on one side, "The rock is hard to see from the tree, it wouldn't be so funny from there. I can show you, if you show me how to get back to that tree!"

"I'll show you the way,a nd before you go, you can show me this funny rock." The white cub got up and turned her pale eyes on various subjects. Like Taf she used natural markers to find her way about. The rocks, the way back to the forest, the position of a tree...maybe that way? That way!
"I wonder what trees would be named if they were named 'trees'..." Nu muttered, wondering aloud as she started to pad away. Then she turned to offer a smile at Taf. Follow me!

"Deal!" Taf exclaimed brightly and hopped around to watch wherever Nu was looking off to. Before they left, the cheeton made absolutely sure to take a good look around- this would now be a landmark of his, though it was unique in that he just had to remember that it was where he had gotten lost. It was similar to the area in general, but there were always little specific quirks in smaller areas. He didn't really hear Nu's muttering, but as she started to walk off he skipped along after her.

"Ta-da! Told you I knew where it was." After a few minutes walk, Nu stopped and gestured at one of the nearby trees. It was certaintly a strange thing, with only half it's foilage. Perhaps the way the wind rushed at it from one direction most of the time had caused it or maybe those branches were dead...who knew?
