What about combining more than one of the ideas? Like having the theme set on color OR style?
For example:
January- Garnet [dark red]/Gothic
February- Amethyst [purple]/Romance or Aristocrat [Classic?]
March- Aquamarine [light blue]/Sweet
April- Diamond [white]/Shiro
May- Emerald [dark green]/Wa-loli
June- Pearl/Moonstone [creme/antique white]/Hime
July- Ruby [red]/Punk
August- Peridot [green]/Ero
September- Sapphire [dark blue]/Sailor
October- Opal/Tourmaline [pink]/Cosplay Loli
November- Topaz/citrine [gold/yellow]/Ero
December- Onyx [black]/Guro
That way, people can participate without being restricted by either or by building on both.

That's a good idea, that way it doesn't restrict everyone that much!

That's a good idea, that way it doesn't restrict everyone that much! I like this idea best too.

I had another idea that might work out if the colors/style doesn't--a prop.
Require that a prop, rather than a color or style, be used for that month's photo contest.
For example, one month it could be a parasol. Another a fan, tea cup, shawl, stuffed animal and so on.

When I say have it as a prop, I mean that it must either be in hand, or within reach. And it has to still work with the lolita theme--I mean, that's the point of the guild, right?

yea, a prop is definitely something you hold. and I hope no one would give us gross pictures. I like a prop theme though.

Here's an idea to throw out there: I'm an editor for the webzine Gothic Angst ( http://angst-zine.com/ ) and I might be able to get the winner's (and a few runner ups) picture(s) published in the zine. This would probably only be able to happen once and it would only work for the Shirololi, Kurololi, Gothic loli, Gurro loli, Aristocrat, and a few other of the loli styles. Mostly because it's so similar to the ideals of Romanti/Victorian Goth. It'd only be able to happen once because I'm not going to continue to do a fashion column, I just want to get the idea of the lolita culture out there. What do ya'll think?

@ Seraphynthetic: Personally, I wouldn't want to be in that magazine, because I'm wary of anything that says it's "gothic." (except gosurori D: ) But that's just me, I'm sure a lot of people would think that's a cool idea. ^^
