I've just started studying Tarot (I got a book on sale at B&N, lol.) What deck do you reccomend for a complete n00b?

I have the Animal Divine Tarot, created by Lisa Hunt. She's amazing, and the deck is absolutely gorgeous.
When it comes to getting decks, I would say that there isn't one specifically designed for beginners, rather you need to figure out which one you think you are best connected to. So go and look at a few decks, and whichever calls to you, that is the one that you should probably use. That's what I did with mine, and when my friend bought it for me, I about died. =P
I tend to favor the celtic cross spread, but i've been known to do others on random occasions.

I have the Rider Waite deck. My friend showed me an easy way to use them
Put the cards the cards in the hand you use to write with. Then with the other hand shuffel the cards untill you get the feeling it the right time to lay them down ((if doing for another person think of the person)). To lay them place them in the other hand and lay down with writing hand. Lay the first card to the left. That is the past. Next card goes in the middle but above the first card. That is the present. Next goes bellow the present and that is the Want ((what the person wants)) and then to the right place the future.
This is the only one I know how to do now but it's worked quite well for me :]

 I want to believe... i have a dragon tarot deck i love it! i use the Ten card spread and the Ouroboros spread. i love the Ouroboros spread it's great if you wanna know what oyur coming week will be like or for yes or no questions. ...that there's no such thing as a memory that's okay to forget

The gypsy Queen i have the goddes tarot deck. it have Godesses from all sorts of religons. i normaly use past present and fucher layout, its the fastes. but i allso use the celtic cross spred. razz I have that deck! It was a gift from my brother. Anyway, I usually use a variation on the Celtic Cross spread, or something random I make up on the spot.

I'm so happy right now! A New Age store opened up just down the road from me, and I've ordered a Radiant Rider-waite deck. ^_^ I should have them in about 2 weeks, once they come in. I'm excited. I've been wanting this deck for a long time. biggrin Now I just have to buy a book to teach me how to use them. xp lol. But I think the shop sold a few, so that won't be to hard. ^_^

I'm studying tarot. I am quite proficient at it, also. I'm currently using the Faerie's Oracle deck.

I have some skill with the tarrot cards so if you had more specific questions I could answer them. (What you asked would take weeks to explain). See a link in my sig for a guild dedicated to all forms of divination. That could help.
My deck of choice is the Dragon Tarrot but the Raider-Waite deck is a classic too.

When I was starting out I used to use playing cards, now I have Goddess cards and an Egyptian tarot deck. I threw the guidebooks in the back of my closet as soon as I got them as I use tarot by feel alone. No book will tell me how to use my cards.

Well..I have a question then? I've seen Barnes & Nobles sell Tarot Card sets and what not...but there isn't one around here. Neither parent of mine is too keen on the idea of me practicing this...so it's not as simple as just ordering them online. They'd still come in the mail and my parents would still see. = Any suggestions?
(The Goddesses tarot deck mentioned beforehand certainly has my attention..should I figure out a solution to my problem, maybe I would get that one to learn. ^^ )

use playing cards, theres nothing suspicious about playing cards. Well thats how I got around the whole parent thing.
You can get some really good info on how to read tarot from the net if you cant get books or just assign your own meanings to the cards. The cards dont really matter, they are just something to help channel your own abilities through.

I have a deck called The Quest Tarot, and I absolutely LOVE it! In the past I have purchased a few other decks (Rider, Da Vinci, and some other Celtic type deck) and I couldn't even bring myself to use them. I opened the deck, held them in my hands, and felt nothing. That was my sign to put them away, and/or sell them.
The best advice to you is to really get to know your cards before jumping into readings. Hold them in your hands... look at them... read the pamphlet that comes along with them. If you don't feel that connection, perhaps it's not the right deck for you. I honestly think cards are a lot like life partners... not every person/deck is a good match. Don't be afraid to look around if you're unsure of a deck you own.
The Quest Tarot deck is without a doubt my deck... I'll use them until they're worn and ragged, and even then I'm sure I'll be searching for another copy of the same thing. I remember when I first went to the local bookstore and I saw them there... I immediately knew I was supposed to have them. At that point I had had no experience with tarot cards, except for the fact that I thought they were neat. I couldn't bring myself to leave... I had to purchase the deck. Sure enough I did, and we've been inseparable ever since smile
