Well, one thing about Ahmik's lifestyle Saiena had to think was that it sounded rather lonely. She'd grown up in the compound of a two-legger with her father and her father's herd, later adding her brother and her brother's flake of a mother. She herself didn't have a mother, which made the whole 'family' thing that much easier, if a little complicated. Then again, neither she nor Kileyo were technically Safi's biological kids, nor was Kileyo Fortune's biological son; but parents could also be who raised you, not just who birthed you, right? Of course.
However, in spite of having met a decent variety of Soquili, 'nightmare' didn't ring a bell. In fact, the only nightmares she knew of were the kind that came to you in your sleep; bad dreams. How could a Soquili be part dream, anyway?
"Nightmare? Does that mean that she scared you a lot, or something...even while she was nice?" It sounded confusing.

He had met a type of soquili she hadn't? Well that made him feel rather proud!
"Well, I don't know, she was only half nightmare and assured me she wasn't anything like nightmares. They have fire on them, she had it on her hooves. They are black as well or something and really mean. I haven't met a full nightmare though and I don't like the idea of doing so either." He made a little of what he said up and the rest was only what he could remember, after all his memory wasn't amazing, something he got from his mother.

"Fire? Do you mean a fire design, or is it real, hot, burning fire? Wow, that must look neat, but if they're always on fire than no WONDER they're always mean. Was your friend on fire? Or half on fire?"
Either way, nightmares sounded like a strange and somewhat fascinating race, although Sai frankly had no desire to deal with mean types any more than necessary. It had been hard enough being nice around her bitchy cousin, but she wasn't going to start a fight with her dad around AND in front a kid, thanks much! "Sounds like you've gotten to do a lot even if you've been pretty close to home, Ahmik!"

"It was real fire coming from her hooves. It looked rather cool really." He was only being honest, he thought it was amazing. She was so different but yet so much fun to be around.
"Oh? Not really. I met her when I left so it should be somewhat fun really. Your the second mare I have met and hopefully won't be the last one either! I like meeting new people!" He did adore meeting new people he hadn't in so long that he felt slightly detached from others.

REAL fire, huh? Well, if SHE had real fire spouting from her hooves, she'd probably be of a somewhat surly disposition herself. And would you be able to swim? Would the water put out the fire, or would the fire just boil away the water and leave you in a cloud of steam?
Oh well, it seemed that she had a mystery to deal with. But until she found a nightmare to talk to herself, she'd have to just take what Ahmik had to say and roll with it...theoretically without peppering him with TOO many questions.
That in mind, she gave him a wide grin at his comment about meeting others. "Well, there are sure lots of Soquili out in the world, Ahmik, so I figure as long as you don't go locking yourself up in another cave, you ought to be fine. And speaking of not being locked up in caves, checkit out!"
The river they were floating in was starting to widen, and off in the distance a vast expanse of shimmering silver could be seen at the end of the river: the lake.

Ahmik listened and laughed.
"I have no plans of locking myself in any more caves. I am sick of caves!" He laughed a little more and looked ahead at the lake. It was huge.
"Wow, it's amazing!"
It was a surprise, he hadn't expected to see it being so big, in fact he was sure it would have been so much smaller! He just stared as they floated into the lake, it was beautiful. Oh how he loved the water!

Smart stallion, not wanting to lock himself up in a cave. Honestly, if he preferred being isolated and wedged in a small space over being able to explore the world...well, she'd think he was crazy, for starters. What kind of Soquili would want THAT kind of life, anyway? It was barely a life!
But he seemed to agree with her, and that was good.
As the two drifted into the lake, Ahmik's expression and comment were enough to make Saiena grin in somewhat possessive pride. Granted, the lake wasn't hers, but she'd introduced him to it, hadn't she? "Amazing, isn't it? It goes on for miles and miles, and it'd take DAYS to walk around the edge!" She knew, for she'd tried! "It's almost like an ocean, doncha think?"

He nodded, she was defiantly right about that. It was huge!
He suddenly gave out a small laugh as a fish swam close to his legs which tickled a little. "It's beautiful and yes very much like an ocean! With all the fish too!" He found the fish the most amusing because suddenly he could see and feel loads of them swimming around him, maybe he just hadn't noticed them before but there were so many of them!

The fish, common as they were to Saiena, hadn't attracted even a whit of her interest. Not until Ahmik pointed them out, anyway, at which point she gave the stallion a grin. "Lake fish can be REALLY friendly; I guess it's because they know that most Soquilis will let them be, don't you? Who'd want to eat a fish anyway, right?"
Grinning, she flicked her tail in the water, the gesture startling away a few of the closer finny fiends. However, after what seemed like a mere moment they were back, nipping at the floating strands of hair as though to prove their courage. "Can you see as many fish in the ocean as in a lake, though? It seems like the waves would make it hard to keep a lot together, you know?"

He nodded and laughed as the fish swam away so quickly and then came back again. He continued to listen the whole time though, this was some of the most interesting things he had heard in a while then again he loved anything to do with water.
"The fish don't come very close to the shore most of the time, just in case they get washed up and stuck I guess. I do see them sometimes though. There aren't always waves though, sometimes the sea is calm!" He let his mind slip into memories of when he was a foal. The first time he had seen a fish had scared him so much that he ran and hid behind his father. Oh that was embarrassing.

Smart fish. If she herself was a fish and needed the water in order to breathe, then SHE probably wouldn't want to get that close to the shore herself. Especially if there were tall waves crashing around that could send you flying!
"You know, that really makes sense. I guess if they always live out in the ocean then they're used to that sort of danger, cause even if the waves aren't big they can still probably toss a little fish around. Like how if you're standing on a rock and it starts sliding down the side of a hill it'll take you with it, cause you were standing on it."
A bit of a convoluted analogy, but all the basic points were there, right? There was no way that it couldn't make sense.
Having assured herself of this fact, Saiena laughed off the confusion factor of what she was saying, looking over at Ahmik as she treaded water. "So what do you like better, waves or no waves?"

That was a thought, what did he like better?
"I think it depends on my mood sometimes I like it when the water is all calm but then sometimes I like it when there are waves. It feels great being tossed around a bit!" He chuckled at the memory of meeting the waves as a foal, they had scared him so much!
"I don't think waves are good for young foals though, quite scary!" He smiled and lowered his head to the water to see if he could see some more fish. They were strange creatures. Always swimming and looking so bored a lot of the time.
"I wonder what its like to be a fish."
