Perhaps a split of the recruiting threads from everything else is in order. Right now I'm picking through the threads on the main forum and its just...a mess. If people followed a few simple rules of posting their rp recruiting threads with the level of play they expect out of its players, it would make life a lot more simple.

Of course getting people to follow rules is the hard part.

And as someone mentioned, the naming of the areas already present is a bit confusing. Something more simple such as
Advanced rps
Medium
and Beginner rps
would be nice. Then people could easily be directed to their level of comfort.

As far as getting people to put what level of RP they want for their RP, I think that is very hard both for the rule makers and for the people trying to follow the rules. I think you can usually tell what level an RP is at just by reading the setup.

But as for splitting up the RPs more, if we do that I think 3 levels is a good way to do it. Beginner RPs would be the ones with practically nothing in their first post. Medium level would be every thing above that up until the Super Duper level we already have. But if we have three levels like that I would be asking people to post their RPs in the main forum and then I would move them. I've found that a lot of people have no idea what level their RP is at. sweatdrop If we split it up three ways I could still have the super RPs left in the main forum because that's where people get the most exposure. I don't want it to be confusing but I also want to give the best RPs the exposure.

A simple in bold on the main forum with the title "How to identify the level of your Rp" might work then. Just put a few basic rules. If you expect replys to be under 5 sentences, then Rp Lite, over 5 sentences, but under say, 3 paragraphs Medium and over 3 paragraphs per post Advanced/Super.

Edit: This really isnt a lot to ask of people who really want to rp of any level. I know people dont like to read but if youre going to rp you literally HAVE to.

Oh, it's not that so much. While posting with 5 sentences helps you get past the first stage, after that defining the levels becomes much more difficult. It's not just about length as I'm sure you know. I've seen some pretty long, 8 paragraph posts that I would still consider to be lower-intermediate.

Thanks for the suggestion! I don't think the guild has quite that many RPs for us to need a subforum like that, but you are certainly welcome to make an RP in the main forum.

I don't mean to sound like I am shooting down all the ideas, I swear.

mrgreen

And again, yes, we should have people helping with the Other Side.
lol its fine^-^just an idea,but yes i understand,hopfully later 3nodding but we'll see^-^

Think of it as more of a general guide line though. Posts such as you described tend to be few and far between because those who need the help won't post that much because they literally don't know where to begin. People who don't fall into that category can be taken aside individually and worked with. Sometimes when you make rules you have to cater to the group rather than the one odd person.

I like the idea of having the roleplays separated by difficulty (by this, I mean beginner, moderate, advanced, etc.), but I see the problem of people not knowing at which difficulty their roleplay stands; because that's all determined by the players of that story, isn't it? A plot may be fine-woven and intricate, but the players may only be beginners when it comes to posting, so their posts would be less detailed, shorter, and more to the point (labeling them as beginners).

I also like the idea of having a thread, or stickie stating simple ways to determine whether or not your roleplay is beginner, moderate, or advanced, but I don't think that making the thread, filling it in with the story's details and such, then visiting the "How to Determine the Difficulty of Your Roleplay", wouldn't be too helpful, because the difficulty is determined by the way the players post, and no one would have posted yet.

So, if you were to have the "How to Determine the Difficulty of Your Roleplay" thread or stickie, it would be good to advise players or thread-makers (hereby known as TM) that, after they feel they have a decent chunk of their roleplay written, to check out the stickie and then make their decision whether it is a beginner, moderate, or advanced roleplay.

Well if we have subforums for each of them, then we would definitely want some basic guideline explaining why we move the threads where we do. When I made the super-duper subforum this is the sticky that explains that:

http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?t=6722577

We do also have more advanced guidelines in the Questions subforum. I think I would want the sticky that explains the new subforums (this is assuming I do go with this idea) to be more detailed than what I currently have up for the super-duper RPs. I think it's more important to tell people what awesome RPs should look like rather than focus too much on what they should not look like. I think it's also more important to focus on the set up. Great RPers can make a mediocre RP good, but a great setup attracts the best players. Plus we will be wanting to move the threads ASAP and not make people have to wait just because they don't have players yet.

We could have it so that RPs could move up, and either make a place for players to argue that their RP is ready to move up, or tell them to PM the SDRP mule.

I still think it would be best if every one created their RPs here and then the moderators moved them. I don't think the misplaced RP would be the exception. I'm a helper in BT and between that and moving threads here, I've noticed that a LOT of people don't read subforum titles, or possibly any thing at all, before they post. lol

Ok guys, thank you so much for your feedback. We will have 2 subforums, one for beginner and one for intermediate RPs. We'll have stickies in each of the subforums and here to explain things more once it opens up, but it won't be opening up until we're ready with those. Once it's all set up, the Advanced RPs will go in the main forum where they can get the most press.

The moderators will be moving the RPs to the appropriate places. Every one will continue to start their RPs in the main forum.

I agree that the main thing the guild needs is more organization, but I don't think it should be by "difficulty". The RPs would be better suited to be organized by genre, and then inside the subforums, have it more organized. As an example, I might be looking for... a one on one Sci-Fi RP. I could go to the main forum, click Sci-Fi, click another subforum called "Sci-Fi One on Ones" and I would be all set.

I think the main forum should be announcment/contest (if any) orintated. On the main forum subforum list would be:
The RP genres (I.E Sci-Fi, Fantasy, School, Everyday life)
An OOC link, which would lead to Tutors/general chat

I just think this would be a better set up.

We can't make subforums within subforums.

It's not really by difficulty but by skill level + verbosity, especially the skill level of the set up. Some people don't want to read what they call "a novel" just to join an RP, so they wouldn't go to the advance place to look for one. On the other hand, people who enjoy those sorts of RPs do not want to wade through 20 RPs that have a minimum set up.

The organization of the guild seemed to be working before the influx of new members, so I think a more medium-sized change like what we're already planning will do just fine.

What will be left in the main forum: Advance RPs, discussions, contests, misc.

Aeriruk
You know, we could run a couple guild-sponsored rps where the crew knows an over all plot, and thus any crew member can guide the story as we go. It might help keep it as an active thread.

i think thats a good idea

We do something like that already, like I already said

Wow. In my RP, which is outside this guild, the main creator and I are constantly conversing about how every post effects our storyline.
It works out quite well.

Hey, ya'll!

We need a bit more people for my RPG, The Rebellion.

Here's the link:

And I'll try to get more people in this guild.
