Sunstrike

He hadn't meant this. Sunstrike cursed himself for being a fool.

"Vahn you're brother is insane with what he's been given, even if he were to....to bring your people back, recreat the Murmillion race as their god...they wouldn't be right." Sunstrike struggled to explain, and the words just fell on top of each other.

"They might look like they're supposed to, but it would take years...generations for the souls to develop, and Victor's made it clear, that the kind of world he wants wouldn't accept that kind of development."

They'd almost made it to the end now, and Sun couldn't keep the sadness from his own expression.

"Even if he did. Dealings with the darkness, the void...they don't come without price, Vahn. And if you're not willing to sacrifice yourself," He looked at the shadowed face and licked dry lips.

"A powerful mirror image would do just as well."

"Sun...."

He struggled to find the words to reassure the redhead. To tell him everything was going to be fine, that they were going to make it out alright like always.

But a part of him was churning in the pit of his stomach. Victor was taking chances he hadn't before-- as if he were assured, or knew every step of the way--- while Vahn, like a simpleton was left to grope about, unaware of the dead end he was in already.

"I already promised I would stop Victor. Without him I can't get Sierra back..."

He stared at the ground, feeling too out of place emotionally right now.

"This isn't the end of the world or something.

At least not yet."

Sunstrike reached out, as if to touch the side of Vahn's head, and ended up punching it lightly instead.

"I know."

With that simple statement he offered everything to his friend. If Vahn had expected some shake of the head or stalling after this far, he was very mistaken. The fact that the other man had even attempted to give reassurance simply settled Sun on the matter.

There wasn't much Sun could do to light the path, but hell, he'd at least lighten the load, right?

"So lets get on with it. We can worry about the damage afterwards. Hell can pick up the tab if we don't make it."

There was something way too cheerful about the way he said that.

"Are...you feeling any better?"

He looked to Sun now, genuinely curious as to how the redhead was doing at the moment.

And a welcome chance to change topics of course. The situation between himself, Sierra and Sunstrike was a tense one at best, and Vahn having thrown Owle into the mix temporarily was just enough to nearly kill all involved emotionally.

Vahn wasn't exactly the brightest... or at least the most thoughtful.

Sunstrike froze and became blank, before the inane grin lit up his face once more.

"Sure! Why wouldn't I be?"

He practically danced a circle around Vahn, making sure he did his best to move in such a way that his limp was camouflaged. The bandages that fluttered helped...

Deep down was another matter. He was unsettled about how the maimed leg had transferred even through a change.

"I've been a little distracted about some personal things, but other then that, I've been healin' up fine and dandy. Don't let the sour looks on the beautiful nurses sway you, they just wanna make sure my fine lovin' bodies all patched up real nice~<3."

He spoke loud enough for Reiyvian to hear, hoping for a small distraction of his own from the topic.

Reiyvian, being an elf with exceptional hearing had of course heard every word. But she was much too polite and well-bred to give hint to any such fact. She respected them enough to at least give them the illusion of privacy. But as Sun raised his voice, deliberately so she was 'allowed' to hear, she took it as her cue to cut in.

"And because they care so much, you won't be giving them any trouble about seeing that your 'fine lovin' body is thoroughly mended, will you?"

She teased. The dance hadn't fooled her... there was a tightness around the eyes, an ungraceful brokeness to the rythm of his step... and his breathing wasn't right. All this she could tell without extending her made-sense. And she was pretty sure, that Sun knew he hadn't fooled her. She would let him comfort Vahn... but she would also insist on his wellness in the end.

"...."

He seemed to take in the both of them, feeling as if he were back in days long since past, where outbursts and simple talks had been common place, instead of the retched running about and fighting or fleeing that he had been forced to become accustomed to in the past few months.

Or was it years?

He honestly couldn't remember...and the days of lazing about the Stadium grounds were far too long to care for..at least when compared with what he was facing now.

A hand rose and went along side locks, hair unkempt as of late and showing its spiteful rebellion against the owner and the straining fo maintaining a viable 'bubble' of protection from the immense heat wearing on him bit by bit.

While it might be doing the salamander a world of good....Vahn himself was still made of mortal ingredients. And they did not take to being gently boiled very well.

"You should try to get some rest in here at least, Sun. I promise I won't be running off to anywhere anytime soon...at least not without you, so don't bother fighting me about it." He waved a hand dismissively even as he began to stand up.

I don't really need the healing anyway... seeing Sunstrike again pretty much calmed down the headaches...and knowing things are alright for now seems to have settled my spirit at least... if not by much.

He stared down at his clothing, disproving quietly of the fashion, and certainly not acustomed to it in many years... although just looking at it also reminded him of the lady who loved to see him this way...

...And that in of itself just dregged up a whole 'nother box of regrets. Regret for letting her down...for breaking her...and unable to so much as hold on to her.

Damn my stupidness and damn my hotheaded tounge...if only...

He shook his head a bit, trying to focus on the here and now.

What was done was done, and all he could do was forge on ahead and attempt to right what had been wronged. At least there was still that much in the way of chances and hopes.

"I'm going to need something a bit better than this if we're going to be doing a lot of fighting... I might actually need protection." It had been even longer since he wore any actual armor as well....

And what better place to get armor, than of the elven variety?

"Oh no, definately not! S'not everyday you meet a death bringer, I was just curious."

Then Sunstrike stopped and watched as Vahn got up. It was a blank alien look, that gave nothing of what he was thinking away.

"Wouldn't want you to turn crispy..."

Then he smiled and yawned lazily, turning as Vahn set off.

"Go find what you need, wuss. "

They were at the end now, Vahn facing up, Sun facing down. There was no real telling how much the salamander knew or guessed at his friends feelings, but there was alomst a solid wedge between them, warring against the pull that kept them together.

It would probably take more time and freedom then what they had to solve the problem, but that wouldn't mean that Sun would stop hoping, or that Vahn would stop running.

He seemed to square his jaw a bit, feeling the uneasy heaviness in the air between them.

In the past he would have been blind enough....and thickheaded enough to ignore such subtle signs and simply leave things as they were.

"Sun....I'm sorry I couldn't be there for you. I promise I'll make whoever mangled you regret it for the rest of their lives. And I really am glad to see you again..."

He silently hoped at the end of the day they would be sharing a better room than this one at least, because there was only so much conversation that could take place amid a bed of lava.

"I'm not going to run away anymore."

For the longest time... it was all the Murmillion had been doing... and been good at probably. From one mess to another, flitting about and busying himself with fighting-- never coming to terms with his place in the scheme of things or accepting responsibility for his actions and burdens.

It was by no means easy, but neither was any simple thing in the world. From the endless beating of a hummingbirds wings, to the tireless devotion of the wind carrying rain to parched lands.

Sunstrike laughed and practically tackled the other man in a bear hug, which would probably earn stressed looks from most of the healers and made him wince.

He didn't let go though, even if it pushed most of his embarrassingly heated and underdressed body right up against Vahns.

"I knew you wouldn't be able to resist me in the end. Marry me and we'll have beautiful adopted children together.~"

He made kissy faces at Vahn in an attempt to lighten the mood just a little bit. Vahn was right, things wouldn't be perfect, but it would be worth a try if they lived through this, besides, Sun would be kidding himself if he thought he wouldn't be able to track the other man down.

The salamander was lucky. There were no nurses within the blistering depths of the Val os Thosi, so reprimanding looks weren't received. Your average being could not withstand being exposed directly to such an intensely hot heat source. One had to be a being of fire to endure the overwhelming heat given off by the Ring of Fire. Or, in the case of Reiyvian, an adept mage highly skilled in defensive and self preserving arts. But even Reiyvian, for all her shielding and healing capabilities, was extremely discomfort. The heat scorched her throat, leaving her mouth dry and her lungs burning as they fought to breathe the superheated air. The heat was taking it's toll and she wanted to be out of here as quickly as possible. So when Vahn expressed his desire to leave, (he seemed to be handling the heat a little better than her, but not by much.) she breathed an inward sigh of relief.

But there was a second wave of relief as Vahn began to talk of preparing himself seriously for the dangerous times ahead of them all. It seemed that the Scion had reached a decision... or at the least, a realization of what had to be done, and the things that had to happen in order to accomplish that end.

"Armour? I shall speak with the smiths and we shall see you outfitted immediately. I think you will be quite pleased with what our forges will produce for you."

She smiled and bowed ever so slightly. She turned to Sun then,

"We will be most honoured to prepare armour for you as well, my friend."

Sunstrike made a face, letting go of the death grip he had on Vahn.

"No, no...definitely no amour. I'm not really comfortable in the stuff. Some clothes will be okay, though." He laughed softly and winked at Rei. "Can't be goin off in the buff, what would people think?!"

He looked at both of their discomfort and blinked, as if it had just sunk in. Calmly he waved them both off.

"Shoo, there's not enough aloe in the whole place to cover the kind of burn you guys'll get down here."
