The necklace twitches a bit as you wear it, but it's really not doing much at the moment. Prehaps it should be taken around a bit to meet others?

[Reaction]
Sitting in her lab, Alikan was running her fingers across the necklace that was neatly tied around her neck. She had been searching all night trying to find any sort of information on the necklace or the shop with no luck. Perhaps she was just looking for it in the wrong place. She picked up the telephone and decided to call her boyfriend, Kai. She needed to get her mind off of some things and he usually carried the remedy to her distress.

"Hello?"

"Hey baby, how are you?" Alikan asked. "I was just wondering if you'd like to come over..I need to talk to you about some things."

"Sure, I'll be right over."

She placed the phone back down on its reciever. She had been with Kai for almmost 2 years with no problems at all. He was a scientist as well, and would help Alikan with her experiment when asked. She sighed, sat up from her chair and headed towards the door, knowing that Kai would be there any minute, he didn't live very far. Just then, there was a rapping on the door. Alikan went to answer the door. When she answered it, Kai was standing before her with a huge smile on his face.

"Hey Ali! What did you need to talk about?" He asked, peering at the new necklace on her neck.

"Come in, we'll sit on the couch and talk." She said, reaching over to kiss him.

They walked towards the living room and both took a seat on the black leather couch.

"I asked you to come here and talk to me because I'm curious about this necklace. There is no one else I really feel comfortable talking to you about this than anyone else."

"Go on..tell me about the necklace."

She brushed the hair out of her eyes and began to speak. "A couple of days ago..I can't remember the date exactly, I went down to the strip mall they just built around the corner. You know which I'm speaking of right?" He nodded and she continued. "Well, I went into the third shop. It was wonderful! They had a bunch of old antiques and stuff, oh your mother would have loved it! I looked around the shop for a while until I noticed a beautiful necklace behind the glass case. It was this necklace. The woman there, I'm not sure if she owned the shop..but, she was the only one there, she told me that it wasn't for sale. Then, as I was about to walk out of the store, she gave it to me..for free. Telling me that no one had taken notice of it before in a long amount of time. Then, a really weird thing happened, as I was leaving, the woman waved to me and somehow vanished. I'm not sure exactly what happened. But, that's not all. After she vanished I felt this tingling sensation all over my body, and the feeling was being generated from the necklace. Also, every once in a while it vibrates and moves. I can't seem to explain it. I've looked everywhere online!"

Kai looked at her confused. "I've never heard anything like that before. But, it does sound intruiging." He said with a smirk. He slowly reached over to touch the necklace. The surface was cold, and sent tingles down his spine. "Was that just from the surface temperature being suprising low or is it the feeling that Ali was describing?" He asked himself. "I'll tell you what, I will do some research and try to find any details surrounding the necklace. In the meantime, you work on your experiment. Not much time is left before Smith discovers the very genes you've spent a good amount of time on trying to find their location."

"Alright, that sounds fine. It's getting late anyways. I'll talk to you tomorrow sweety." And with that, she said goodbye with a kiss.

Why did I not tell him about how I am drawn to the necklaces very prescence? No matter what force I use, I cannot retreive it from my neck. It's almost like, I forgot about that part of the story..."

A while later, as the first snowfall of winter starts, the necklace twitches again. And the leaf grows just a tiny bit warmer, turning green and letting out a soft green glow across whatever it's sitting on...

[Experiment]
“Of course!” Ali shouted, “why hadn’t I thought of this sooner?! You don’t need to create or replicate genes in order to create the same hollowed bones and wings such as birds. You can manually do it yourself!” Alikan has been running experiments on her lab mice for a while, trying to isolate a gene that would create air filled bones that would still create red blood cells needed to survive. She was also trying to find a way for a human to grow bird wings. She now had a plan, and would put it to use on her lab mouse, Samuel.

She retrieved many needles, syringes, and a pair of latex gloves from her supplies cabinet. She also took out a beaker filled with enkephalin, the brain’s natural opiate drug. It acts just like pain killers by blocking pain and binding to the opiate receptor. Ali liked to use this better than morphine when she operated because well, quite frankly, it was produced by the body, making it natural. The experiments that she liked to work on were seemlingly demonic to some already, but she took the necessary precautions to keep her animals from suffering. She also grabbed some cutting tools such as scalpels and laid them on the tray next to her table. There was only one other thing that she needed, titanium. She had a bit left over from past experiments, using it to replace or repair bones. Next, she grabbed Samuel from his cage and placed him on the “operating table”. It was really just a sterile table she used for operating, not an official, hospital-like operating table. She filled a syringe with enough enkephalin to last for about 3 hours, covered the beaker, and placed it back in the cabinet. She injected the mouse with the enkephalin and waited for its effects to take place. After about 40 seconds, it started to kick in and Ali was ready to begin her experiment.

The first procedure she was going to perform was the removal of most of the bone marrow. The tricky part was the fact that she could not remove all of the marrow, it would kill the specimen, enough needed to be left to enable it to still create red blood cells.

She decided to start in the pelvic region and move outwards, starting with the more dense areas and move to the less dense areas. She placed the gloves on her hands. She punctured each area and retracted about an ounce from the dense areas and about one-fourth of an ounce from the less dense areas. She proceeded to do this until Samuel’s whole body was finished. She left a bit more bone marrow within the bone cavities than was needed to extract, being careful not too take more than needed. The procedure took about an hour to complete.

She moved on to the next procedure, the more difficult one. She will need to construct the bones need to start the bone building process of wings. She needs to create one more pectoral girdle and also a keel. Once the bones are created, Samuel will be injected with a steroid to help the production of flight muscles in the following days after the experiment. The last thing needed to be completed for the experiment to be a success, is the removal of the diaphragm and the insertion of additional tubes and sacs to increase the oxygen intake.

Ali began to shape the titanium into the bones she needed to create. The keel was an extension of the sternum, or breastbone needed for the attachment of flight muscles. After the shape was perfected and smoothed out, she made a small incision in Samuel’s knee and extracted a small amount of cartilage to help attach the new keel and to promote more cartilage growth. She placed the collected cartilage aside and proceeded to make an incision along his breast, a large enough cut to insert the new bone. She guided the bone into his chest and attached it by way of the cartilage. She carefully stitched the incision closed and turned Samuel over on his stomach to work on his back area. She made an incision along his back and took out a girdle. Most mammals have two girdles, while birds have three. She simply replicated the bone. Then, she positioned both of the bones back onto his vertebrae, and attached them by way of the left over cartilage. She stitched the incision neatly and quickly. She didn’t have much more time till Samuel awoke from his slumber, one more hour remained. She made another incision along his stomach, not far from the incision made earlier along his breast. She carefully removed the diaphragm. She walked over to the cabinet and got out material that was light in weight, very durable, expandable and hard to tear to create the new sacs and tubes. She began to create seven more tiny sacs shaped similar to the lungs already inside of his body, with tubes to connect each sac, again, similar to the structure of his lungs currently. She created two tiny holes in his lungs and quickly secured them with the synthetic lungs, adhering them with a special, non-degrading glue she had whipped up herself. Everything was finished, and everything seemed to be in order. The only other thing needed to be done were the steroid shots to be administered tomorrow. Now, she waits. She waits to detect any problems with the experiment, and the aid Samuel with any help he may need. It should take anywhere from a few days to a week for his wings to fully develop with the help of the steroid shots. She stitched the final incision and placed Samuel in his own separate cage for surveillance.

Ali walked to the sink, took of her latex gloves and began to wash her hands, thinking about what she had just done. She looked down into the sink, into her reflection. A brilliant green glow was illuminating the sink. She looked closer into her reflection and noticed that the leaf on the front of the necklace was glowing green! She felt the necklace with her hand and felt a slight raise in temperature. Frightened, and taken by surprise she fled up the stairs and grabbed the phone.

“Hello?”

“KAI! The necklace..it’s i-it’s GLOWING!” Ali exclaimed, very much out of breath.

“Hold on…slow down. The necklace is what?”

“It’s glowing Kai, and it’s emitting heat from it as well. Have you found any info on that shop yet?”

“Yes! I was going to call you later about that, I’ve been searching for days with little hope of finding anything. And, now that I think about the actions of the necklace, the shops’ history is beginning to make a little bit more sense.” Kai said as he grabbed the printed information from the table.

“Well…GO ON!” Ali said, no longer being capable of waiting to hear what he had to say.

“It was mentioned online, that the shop is owned by three women who love to restore antiques and sell them to the public. I didn’t really find a lot of info, but it was interesting that I found on a forum someone having the same experiences as you. Their antique would behave strangely, but they never wrote the result of the behavior.”

“I don’t know…but if it is some sign of something good regarding the experiment, I will be ecstatic! It started to glow right after I completed the experiment, you know..the one I have been working on for a while. I found a new way to do it without having to isolate the genes. But, we’ll talk about this later. I love you baby.” Ali exclaimed.

“Alright, can’t wait to hear the details. If you need me for anything..if anything weird happens with the necklace, just give me a call. Love you, bye.”

Ali hung up the phone and walked towards the living room, switched on the tv and sat on the couch. The news was on, snow tomorrow..she reached up and held the necklace. “What could this mean?” she thought to herself, “and, why did it happen to me..?”. She began to ponder the necklace while embracing it in her hand. She was no longer frightened, the feeling was replaced with a sort of uplifting, new beginning type feel that tingled her body.

[Disclaimer: I realize that I, myself, am not a scientist. The experiment featured in this post is not real, nor will it even work if really performed. Many things may be wrong concerning the experiment.]

The green glow seems to compact a tiny bit, and in the center, the light grows brighter, hurts any eyes watching a tiny bit more, and flickers like little green flames...

Once Ali had passed out, the necklace's glow cut out, the heat and throbbing ceasing immediately as the necklace went ice cold against her flesh. A white haze also seemed to replace the green flames from before.

Waking on the floor, she looked down to the necklace on her neck and noticed that her hand was cupped over it. There was no longer a green glow illuminating from the necklace. It now had an icy chill to the touch and looked like a creek on an early, moist day.

She pushed her hands under her and lifted herself, carefully to her feet. She was having a bit of trouble doing this, she felt as if something had sucked all of the energy from her body. She was still in her robe and towel and wasn't sure what time it was exactly. She peered towards the digital clock on the wall, but it was flashing 12:00. "Electric must have gone out." She climbed the steps to the floor upstairs and ventured towards the kitchen. Once there, she opened the fridge, grabbed a glass from the cupboard and poured herself a glass of orange juice from a pitcher. Spotting her watch on the counter, she turned it over and looked at it. It read a cool 6:00 pm, more than 24 hours since she was last awake. That was the first time she'd ever passed out. She sipped the last drop of the orange juice and proceeded to walk into the living room. The necklace was definately on her mind. Her mind thought scientifically, and that seemed to satisfy her just well, but there was no explaination from her scientific mind that made sense. She knew that she couldn't get herself to take it off, even in the shower, the necklace never aged nor moved in a way that would injure the necklace. A part of her didn't want to question the necklace as well..to just believe it, have faith. Something she wasn't too particular with...

One evening, after going to bed perhaps a bit earlier than usual, Ali awakens with a start. Her hand reaches automatically to where the necklace should be... it's there, but strangely, it feels cold and lifeless. Almost as if all that had happened before was just fantasy. Sitting up, Ali gets the strange sensation that someone is watching her.

In the darker corner of the room is a frightened looking young woman.
