Albatre Marionnette
User ImageI can't explain myself, I'm afraid, Sir...

I understand that, it's just... They sounded misleading to me. I assumed they would lead to a bunch of 11-year-old girls going "lol hi lookin 4 otaku freinds" but I probably overreacted.

My friend saw an otaku man on the subway once.

...Because I'm not myself, you see.User Image

Really? How'd she know he was an otaku? o__o

oh, come on-- otaku are so obvious. usually they're dumpy, pale, and a bit smelly...they'll have some kind of anime keychains, t-shirt, bookbag or something on. I went to high school with two or three. not all otaku are this bad though, of course. 3nodding

D:
One of the reasons I fell in love with Lolita is because it's something the general public isn't exposed to. I have a feeling that a rush of Loli-wannabes are going to flood the gates.

Huh...well,I'd buy the japanese magazines anyway, even if I couldn't understand 95&#xof; the text in there(which is the case). I don't think it's going to have that huge of an impact though. Some girls may be all "Ooh,gothic lolita,I want a poofy skirt!" and will tire of it quickly. Big deal, we'll still be here, right? And maybe there will be less people that will assume something perverse when they hear lolita in our terms.OUtcast things are bound to become trendy at some point.Look at what magazines like Seventeen and ther idiot popstars tried to do with punk.Young girls will either go completely there,or fall half way, because they can't grasp the same principles behind it.So will this make lolita style trendy for a little bit? Possibly. But only for a little bit,and you won't see the cheerleaders dressing that way. I'm not too worried about it.And you know what else? I love anime and manga a lot anyway,so does that make me an otaku? And is that a bad thing?
(though i will say i'm no wear NEAR an otaku in the japanese definition.)
So...anything I just say make sense? All in all I guess I'm just trying to say that it shouldn't really be something to be so negative about. Just my opinion...

I think that as long as TokyoPop translates it properly and keeps everything intact this'll be a good thing. But since TokyoPop is not known for doing such things, I worry what this could turn into (remember that one article they had several months back on "lolita"? Yeah....). :/

It better just be a translation.

But at the mere mention of some gay "hybrid" s**t....

DO NOT WANT.

Now my eye is twitching.

Why isn't anyone excited about this?
This is wondeful!
Yes, I do think that Tokyopop and Lolita, and Lolita and American culture in general have had bad relations, but this is different to me!
I think things like this will only lead more brands coming to America, and Lolita culture becoming more available to us.

not worried about it. i doubt it will be a mainstream thing anyways. Gothic Beauty isn't even mainstream. and all Lolitas start somewhere, but the dedicated ones will make the effort to really live up to the real lolita standards. and the ones that go around saying they are and aren't will very soon figure out they are going to be knocked down off their pedestal of belief and will either become discouraged or get smart and walk the line.

i suppose we'll just have to wait and see then. you never know, they could just be translating them like so many of you would be pleased with. well i hope at least!! TT^TT

I'm excited (I've already spread the new to others too), I'm just kinda bummed it's TokyoPop who is not known for accurate translations.
