Charlamagne climbed onto the shore and waited for him to lead the way. At Kiefer's words, she nodded in understanding before adding. "Lets just hope that this particular stream doesn't lead to a waterfall before it goes to the ocean."
She didn't bother shaking the water off, the evaporating water had a small cooling effect, and when she got too hot, she would just flick the water that was still trapped in her tail onto her back. She did have to agree with him though, there was an obvious difference between being in the water and being out of it again.

Kiefer began to trot, they were nearly there. He could smell it, the thick smell of rotting crustations and salt. Even though it sounded unpleasant, the beach's smell was intoxicating, and wholly excellent. The stallion could practically hear the seagulls cawing in the distance already. Or maybe that was just his mind.
"Can you smell that?" he said, although realizing that the smell of the beach was mixed with the earthy smell of the forest. "It's stronger when you get closer" he said with a smile. "Nothing beats the smell of the beach." He picked up the pace despite the heat, excited to see the ocean. The rhythmic sound of the crashing waves was calming. But once you got in, you could feel their power.

She trotted after him, doing her best to keep up with him, though it wasn't as much of a problem as when she was in the water. Her tail flicked over her back when she got warm, but her tail was quickly drying out.
At his question, she glanced up to him curiously before taking a sniff in or two. It was faint, but there was a distinct smell in the air. In her opinion, it wasn't really the greatest of smells. "I don't know about 'nothing' beating the smell." She replied slightly sarcastically. When he picked up his pace, she huffed slightly and followed after, her trot turning into a slow sprint just to keep up.

Kiefer smiled, watching that she didn't quite like the smell. Ah, well. To each his or her own. Anyway, they were close, very very close. The air almost completely smelled of the beach, he could hear the waves. They were loud. "Almost there!" he said, his tail flicking in excitement.
The stallion broke through a clod of trees, coming out into the open air, on the top of a large...cliff. It overlooked the sea, crashing against the rocks at the bottom. There was no beach, just rocks. He wondered if the water was too deep to swim in.
"Oh...well...maybe we can get down" said Kiefer, not even considering leaving an option. He wanted to be in the ocean, and he WOULD get into the ocean. "It looks like we might be able to get down over there" he said, motioning towards some rocks placed so the two might be able to climb down.

Charlamagne only stopped to catch her breath before trotting after him once again. Hearing the sounds of the waves, her ears perked forward.
Upon coming out of the forest and to the cliff, she stopped and stood beside him, though a bit further away from the cliff's edge, having an inane fear of heights. She cautiously peered over the edge to get a view of the large amount of water crashing against the rocks below. She looked back up to him when he spoke to her, before glancing back down. 'Get down to what? It's nothing but rocks and water down there.' She thought with a small gulp as she turned and looked to the direction he motioned to. "W-we'll never know until we try."

"Awesome!" said Kiefer, so caught up in the idea that he didn't even detect the fear in the mare's voice. He cantered over to the lightly less steep ledge, carefully putting on hoof down, then the other, then the other, then the other. Now he was fully on the first rock.
"See? It isn't bad!" he said, waiting very much to get down to the water. The area he was going down too was more shallow than the rest, seemed just deep enough to stand in, and the rocks made it so the waves weren't pounding like they were on the cliff. Might have been a very pleasant place to be, if it weren't for how difficult it would to get down.
But Kiefer wouldn't let some stupid rock wall to keep him from victory. He looked up at Charl. "Come on now, it isn't hard!" he encouraged, bravely jumping to the next rock with out a thought. "Very easy, even!"

She shifted slightly to watch Kiefer move over to the 'path' and cautiously step onto the first rock. She could already feel the 'nervous tingle' build up in her stomach as she slowly made her way over.
At his comments on how it wasn't bad or it wasn't hard, she gave him a skeptical look as she stepped up closer. 'You don't know how clumsy I am then.' She thought as she glanced at the ledge. After a moment or so, she took a deep breath and cautiously took her first step onto it.

Kiefer looked up, seeing how Charl hadn't made a huge amount of progress. He could understand that, all the rocks were rather intimidating. He looked down, only about five more jumps to the water. Boy, that would be nice. But he decided to stop and wait for her to catch up. The stallion moved back up another rock to get closer.
"Just think of it as if you are just jumping down one, and there isn't anywhere to fall. Like..." Oh, how to explain this? "If you were jumping from one rock to another as a foal with friends. And that if you fell, all that would happen would be that you would get a bit dirty. You wouldn't be scared, then. Really, its very easy" he said, waiting for her to catch up.
He looked down again. It was a bit of a fall, but the stallion felt very little fear. So what if he fell? It couldn't be THAT bad, could it? Plus, the rocks were, for the post part, flat and large, and didn't look like they threatened to fall at all. He worried a bit for when they got down to where the rocks were wet, but if you fell in at that point, you would barely get hurt at all, being that close to the water.

After some time, she cautiously, yet finally brought herself onto the rock. With a deep breath, she now worked on moving to the next. She took her time yet again, but she found her way onto the next rock... so far, so good.
When he spoke to her to get her comfortable, she stopped so she didn't lose concentration as she climbed. She glanced down to the next rock as he spoke, getting herself prepared to move to it. It wasn when he mentioned jumping from rock to rock as a foal that caused her to frown a bit. "I... um... I really don't remember my childhood... to be honest." She told him softly, shifting so she could continue downward.

Kiefer smiled, she was nearly half way down. "See? Not too hard!" he said, going down another rock. One more jump and then he could go into the water! Still, he waited for her, because he knew if she DID fall he he would horrible if he wasn't there to at least break the fall.
"Oh...thats too bad..." he said, feeling a bit bad. He vividly remembered his childhood. Full of sneaking around, getting in trouble, doing crazy things. Maybe he wasn't so different. He always thought when you grew up, you really changed a lot. But he felt the same. Just a little more serious.
"Come on. Like, four more" he called. "You are doing great." he added, wondering if the encouraging words really helped, or she was just writing them off. He hoped they actually helped, he didn't like the idea of scaring her so much. But the water would be so nice, it was worth it.

She hopped onto the next stone, letting out a small squeal when she slipped just slightly but caught herself. When she was sure she had her balance again, she looked up to him and smiled. She greatly appreciated him encouraging her... if he wasn't, she probably would still be at the top of the cliff by now.
With a small snort, still a little jittery from her little slip, she quickly climbed to the next rock, just to get this out of the way as soon as possible.

"Just four more!" he said, smiling. She was doing excellent! "Actually, three. The fourth jump is into the water!" he said, looking at the water behind him. "Go quick, get it over with. You won't fall" he added. Of course, Kiefer couldn't really guarantee anything.
The stallion shifted a bit on the uneven surface, growing impatient. It wasn't her fault that she was scared. He wasn't blaming her at all, but Kiefer had a short attention span, and couldn't stand to wait much longer. He took a step backwards, wanting to put a hoof into the water. Just to cool down a bit. He leaned down to dip it in...
When he slipped. The stallion felt his entire hind leg go into the water, the other collapsing into the rock, then joining, crashing his chest onto the rock, and then the rest of his body slipping in to the water. For a few moments he was under, his golden body moving outwards towards the sea, before he raised his head out of the water.
He grimaced, treading water the best he could with a bleeding leg, the other bruised form having him land on it. "I think I deserved that..." he mumbled, gaining more focus and looking around for Charlamange.

Charlamagne took two quick hops onto one rock, then another. 'Oh joy, only one more rock before she's done with the climb.' She thought, before looking up the way she came. Seeing this made her frown, the climb won't be easy either.
It was when she turned back to take the last jump, she let out a gasp. She didn't see the intial slip, but seeing Keifer fall into the water before being swept away caused her heart to skip a beat.
Without a second thought, she took a mighty leap into the water and made her way toward the stallion. She hoped he wasn't too injured as she made her way closer to him. "A-are you alright?!"

Kiefer saw her jump down easily. She looked down at him, worried. He laughed. It probably didn't seem like the best situation to laugh in, but he did. All that fuss she made, all that worrying, and she was able to jump down just as good as he did that whole time!
After a good fit of it, he smiled. "Yea. Fine...I scratched my leg pretty badly" she said, looking back at the blood tinted what by his legs "And bruised up the other. But it's not too bad" he said, doing a painful swim toward a rock in semi shallow water. He put his front hooves on it, shifting his weight forward so he didn't strain the back two.
"Well, the water is nice, isn't it?" he said, feeling like an idiot for falling, and rather trying to just pretend it didn't happen. But he could only do so much to pretend, because it hurt pretty badly. Nothing broken, though. Right now it seemed it would be best to just stay in the water, because the jumps back up were sure to hurt.

Hearing that his leg was scratched up, and seeing the color in the water, her ears lowered. "You should really get that leg out of the water, the salt isn't good for it... nor what could be in the water." She told him, having heard about these fleas that live in the ocean. She couldn't be sure if it was true or not, but she also couldn't risk it either as she followed him back to the shallower part of the water.
The worried look just couldn't fade from her features, even when he tried to ask about the water. "I guess... a bit 'choppy' for my taste." She replied, climbing into the shallows then onto the rock beach soon after and glancing to him, wondering how he would get back up with the injured legs.
