Del stared at the stallion wondering why he didn't talk. She hadn't yet come acrossed anyone that didn't enjoy to talk. As she waited patiently[it's a miracle] for him to say something she lowered her head down to smell a flower that was by her. It smelt like a really pretty flower. After he asked his question she quickly raised her head so it was up once again and smiled. 'I don't know why the fascinate me so. I guess maybe it's just the way that the fly and have the freedom to go wherever they want with not a care in the world. They are also very very beautiful where as I myself am just quite plain really. I do think I look nice but compared to the butterflies I'm really just plain.' she spoke quietly as she thought about the butterflies.

Hinote's gaze floated off of Del'nal and onto somewhere off in the sky. He felt Del'nal's stare locked onto him, and it did not aid his situation any better. It was almost as if she were waiting on him... But for what?
Relieved by the female's inclination towards the flower on the ground, Hinote used that moment of freedom to take a few steps closer. But as soon as he had taken his last step towards her, she had turned back immediately, and he hoped that she did not catch his movement. He shifted his footing on the ground uncomfortably, the unlikely possibility of her noticing it making him anxious.
The mare's smile was contagious and managed a small one on Hinote, though he was half-puzzled at how she could put up one like that so quickly and without hesitation. Her reply had to elicit an impromptu response:
"Not at all," he begun, "I think you are more beautiful than butterflies."
He himself was quite surprised at his sudden speech that he had to turn away, awkwardly embarrassed. But she was. And it wasn't the fact that he hadn't seen many other mares in his life--in fact, he had, though he supposed it was the fact that they were part of his family, but... Of course Del'nal was prettier than butterflies, for butterflies and other creatures alike simply did not possess the same sort of characteristics that, well, a stallion like Hinote would find quite charming.
Hinote had half a mind to turn back and wing it off, but something kept him rooted to the ground. He moved to face Del'nal again and said in a soft voice that was almost like a whisper, "Excuse me," as an apology for his last comment.

Del couldn't help but turn her head away shyly at the stallion's comment about her. She couldn't understand why anyone would think that she was more beautiful then the butterflies. It was at this point that she was glad she was the color she was so that no one could see if she was turning red. "I thank you for your kind words but I really am not more beautiful then the butterflies." Her head was still turned away from him as she now tried to figure out why she was acting so 'foolish'.

Eyes unconsciously flickering back and forth between the flower, Del'nal, and the sky, Hinote fretted that he said something wrong. But he had already apologized for it! What more could he do? If this was the way mares acted, the ones in his family sure didn't treat him like this. Or was Del'nal looking away because he started to look funny?
He moved his head downwards to stare at his hooves as he began to dig into the ground anxiously, trying to find words... But he was never really good with words, was he? "Actions speak louder than words" was his mantra, so Hinote stepped forwards courageously, still without knowledge of why she would turn away from him. He inspected the surrounding butterflies that Del'nal must have been referring to and looked back at her; he was almost in front of her again, and he shook his head slowly in counter to her statement.
Hinote could only hope that she would understand the simple enough gesture--his words earlier were the truth, and he stomped the ground softly with one hoof to confirm it. He motioned to the butterflies with a flick of his head and said, "Of course, why would you compare yourself to such unlikely things?" Saying that you were less beautiful than a mere insect, imagine!
He stopped and noticed that Del'nal was being less talkative now, which put the pressure on him to do so in her stead: "I have an older brother who fancies them, though... His mate is one." Hinote then thought momentarily. That must've sounded pretty strange to one who didn't know his family. "...Or half of one anyways," he corrected.

Looking back up at the stallion Del still couldn't figure out why she was acting the way she was. Perhaps a visit with her mother later on would do her some good she thought. "I compare myself to the butterflies because they have so much more color then I. Even my father whom I look more like has more color then I as well as my mother. " she explained quietly. "I've been told before that I almost resemble a starry night sky but I really don't think I do."
She stopped and looked down at a flower as she waited for Hinote to speak some more. Upon hearing that his brother likes butterflies as well she raised her head and gave him a quizzical look. "How could one be mated to a butterfly? Or even half a one? Butterflies are insects aren't they?"

...Oh? "Don't you believe..." Hinote began, attempting to lock gazes with Del'nal, "That true beauty can be found in the simplest things?" And then he smiled, thinking back to his parents and siblings. They were not a colorful sort, but his father was bold and proud, while his sweet mother, perhaps the plainest of them all, had a heart of gold. That was real beauty. Now, while his siblings weren't exactly colorful either, he found comforting solace in their company of blended monotone.
He nodded to Del'nal's other comment, agreeing that she did look like the night sky that he usually found himself blanketed under. Under that darkened sky, he must have looked like a silver, pale moon himself, giving company to the night.
"You would fit in well with my brothers and sisters," Hinote said quietly. Del'nal, he just realized, shared much of the same qualities--both physical and personality-wise--as his family did.
Then he tilted his head and hesitated as she replied to his statement. He had regretted saying it soon after, for he himself did not quite understand how one would have butterfly qualities either... "Ah, no, not an insect..." he explained, "She is... a mare with butterfly wings and antennae..." But that was all he could say of the subject, not fully comprehending himself.

True beauty? There was in her mind no such thing as 'true' beauty. There was no right or wrong way to have beauty...was there? Del looked at him still confused over true beauty and mare butterfly. She did not want to try to comprehend both topics though as she knew that would just make her head hurt even worse so she stuck with the most confusing topic at hand. The mare butterfly.
"But how could a mare have butterfly wings and antennae? It's impossible...I think. Maybe. Is she really really small?" She asked him with a still confused look on her face. "Is she really pretty though?"

Hinote had a glazed smile plastered onto his face, shyly watching Del'nal reflect on his few previous words. He had no clue what thoughts surged through her mind, even if he did have a way with things like that usually--for the moment, this mare just seemed to break his intuitive nature.
Sharp yellow eyes focused on the sky as another question was posed to him. Thinking about it, Hinote had to stop and wonder why Del'nal was so interested in his brother's mate, but shrugged it off--perhaps others have never seen oddities such as butterfly characteristics, so of course they would be intrigued!
It's not impossible, he thought to himself, unless his brother's mate had always been a part of everyone's imagination... No, that couldn't be. He quietly laughed at himself for fostering that notion, and then meekly gave a reply in the form of a nod; his brother's mate was small indeed, for regular standards. Though mares were typically smaller, the butterfly mare was doubly smaller!
"Pretty?" he repeated instinctively, surprised at the question. How could one consider a sibling's love to be attractive? He supposed she was pretty for her brother, but that made her family, so she couldn't be really pretty to Hinote... "She's sweet," he finally decided. He then blinked hesitantly, knowing that it would be nice to offer a visit to the butterfly mare, but he had no idea where she resided--in fact, the only one who would know of her whereabouts would be his brother, and heaven knows where Roka was. "And she reminds me of you," he added quietly as an afterthought.

This whole deal with the mare butterfly was so very confusing. Del wanted to try to understand but she really couldn't. She wouldn't be able to understand until she actually met said mare butterfly. Though when the stallion's mention at the mare butterfly reminding him of herself she couldn't help but shake her head.
"How could she remind you of me? I have no wings or anything. Though I still don't get how a mare could have such things but still..." she paused as another butterfly went fluttering by. As she watched the butterfly she couldn't help but let her mind wander forgetting where she was for just a few moments. After the butterfly had flown away she shook her head slightly and she remembered where she was at. "Oh I'm sorry...I get distracted way to easily. I really do love butterflies." she apologized.

No wings? Hinote repeated to himself in his mind. He tilted his head and blinked while staring at the black protrusions from Del'nal's sides. During his inspection, he was somewhat relieved when a distraction came in the form of another butterfly. He hid his laughter but said nothing more of the subject, knowing that the fleeting moment that had just passed was a telltale sign of the similarities between the mares. Their random personalities were one in the same, so perhaps Del'nal was more like butterflies than she gave herself credit for.
But Hinote, noticing the chance for less uncomfortable silence, ran after the butterfly that had flown past with a glint in his eyes. He turned back with a youthful look as if telling Del'nal to follow, and took a couple of jumps as if to fly with the butterfly--of course, it didn't go so high to entice him to spread his wings, but it was a fun chase, even if it was on ground.
And then the thought struck him; he never did see Del'nal fly, did he? But she did know how to move her wings, so why wouldn't she be able to fly if she knew they were there? Perhaps it was the same case of his brother's mate, who he never saw take flight. Del'nal's wings were almost the same as his, though--they practically had the same colors! So why would he be able to fly, but not her? "You sure you don't have wings?" he voiced softly, half hoping she wouldn't catch his question, as it could have been considered offensive. He bit his tongue, wishing he hadn't asked.

Del watched the stallion go chasing after the butterfly. She couldn't help but laugh as she watched him chase it before stopping and looking back her. A thought raced through her head and she decided to act upon it as she certainly loved playing games. With her being as excited as she was she failed to hear the stallion's question about her being sure of having no wings. Though he would soon find out the answer to his question.
She quickly caught up to him and stopped long enough to tell him the rules of this new game. "Let's play a game! First we run as fast as we can to that big tree down yonder and then when once we reach there we leap up into the air and see how far we can glide before touching the ground." She explained quickly. Not even waiting to see if he wanted to play this game she took off at a fast run towards the tree that was down yonder.

Momentarily stunned at her sudden enthusiasm about a game, he smiled quietly as he let his earlier question float away quietly with the wind. He still had her laughter ringing in his ears like playful music; it was something he dearly hoped to listen to forever. He paused a moment as he allowed that thought to repeat itself in his mind. Forever? Where had that come from? ...Her game did sound fun though, and he returned to reality once more.
...Glide? Not fly? He blinked, and then merely nodded, unable to answer for he worried it would come out in a way that could be insulting. Perhaps he would allow for Del'nal to win this game of hers; it would be endearing and very enjoyable, especially if he could listen to her laughter and see her beautiful smile.
...She truly was like his brother's mate. The only difference was, perhaps, that he thought Del'nal to be more beautiful. Seeing he was already behind once she had finished talking, he quickly took off after her, careful not to trip himself clumsily as he tried to catch up. Well... okay, fine, he really had let her get a head start, so that was fine... Glide... filled his mind once more, but this time he brushed it off, focusing instead for the purity of enjoyment of his companion's game.

Del knew that she had these 'wings' of hers. Her whole family had them she just never bothers flying as she preferred to stay down on the ground by the butterflies. Upon reaching the tree as fast as she could she jumped up into the air and spread out her wings proceeding to glide as far as she could. She couldn't tell if the stallion had decided to play or not but it didn't matter. This game of hers was fun and she enjoyed gliding like a butterfly just a couple feet up off the ground. Her laughter could be heard as she glided not only because she was having fun but also the breeze was tickling her sides.

Del'nal had won their small race, although it left Hinote with questions as to why she chose to glide, rather than fly. In no way did it make much sense to him, but he did not bother to voice it. He trailed after the mare, thinking that it was more exhilarating to embrace the wind through flight instead of gliding, and gliding was only useful when truly lazing about.
He glanced up, startled, when he heard the beautiful sound of laughter, and he soon realized it was the mare. He smiled as he approached her, seeing that she didn't seem to care who won or lost--well, neither did he--and so his golden eyes followed her gaze, where he saw yet another butterfly. Ah, so that was the cause of the sudden cheerfulness. "Del'nal," he called, and then fell silent. Would she answer him?
Being that he enjoyed nature and the natural flow of things, he rarely caused interruptions through speaking, and seeing that he was suddenly stuck with how to start conversations at the moment, he remained quiet. It was better for him, he decided, to watch Del'nal. She was something of a wonder, and he contented himself with observing her every movement, the little things and the big things.

The starry mare watched the butterfly as it flew about the flowers. By this point in time she had forgotten who the winner of the race had been. Her ears flicked back as she thought she heard something but decided she hadn't. Looking back at Hinote she couldn't help but smile even more. "Aren't the butterflies pretty? They really are much more prettier then me. Don't you think so? Though they aren't prettier then you that's for sure." Del's words flowed out of her mouth faster then a raging river itself.
