Ahote pondered that thought for a while. Perhaps there really wasn't anything special behind a certain Soquili's markings. But that made it all so unexciting, and no where near as special. He liked to think that they all had their markings for a reason, something that fit with their personality. But all that aside, he still loved seeing new Soquili and marveling at their distinctive markings.
As Keifer joined him in the shallows, he watched the water poured off his back. He smiled and looked up at him.
"So, whatcha wanna do now?"
Ahote looked around, seeing if there was anything interesting nearby to explore or play with.

Kiefer flipped his mane back, letting it slap on his neck. "Well, I don't know. In all honestly I've only really been in this area for a short amount of time. I've been doing a lot of traveling lately" he said, looking into the distance, then noticing something.
"Look, a river is coming off this lake! Shall we follow it and see where it leads too?" he asked, motioning to the other side. The stallion went onto the short, and shook while far enough away not to completely soak Ahote.
"It could lead to a waterfall, or swamplands, the ocean, or even just another lake" he said, laughing. "It's worth checking out, though.

Ahote smiled. He had been in these lands all his life, so he knew most of the land around here. Or at least he thought he did. There were still many areas that the little pony didn't even know existed. He laughed as Keifer shook the water off his coat, but decided not to shake out himself. He liked the cooling effect the water had.
"Sure! That sounds fun! I wonder what we'll find! Come on, let's go!"
And with that, Ahote took off at a canter. Perhaps Keifer had meant to stroll along the banks, but Ahote wasted no time. There were things to explore! Walking just took up time that could be used making his own little discoveries!

Kiefer followed Ahote, having to do only a trot to keep up with him. The little guy sure had spirit! In fact, he had more spunk in him then Kiefer had seen in a while. It was never any fun at all being with some boring old stallion or mare that was only interested in standing there. Sure, some might find the hyper ones annoying, but he found them amusing.
"Any idea what we will find out there?" he asked, they were approaching the stream itself now, and it seemed to be going downwards. What could it possibly be?
Kiefer felt a bit cold with the water still clinging to him, and he wondered how cold Ahote was. Then again, he remembered hearing that littler animals generated more body heat, maybe the same rules pertained for him?

Ahote continued running along the stream as it sloped down.
"Ooh, maybe its a waterfall!"
He felt no coldness as he went along. He was rarely cold, unless it snowed, of course. Then it was always cold. But when the weather was warm, hardly anything made him cold.

Kiefer watched as the water get faster and faster, sloshing around rocks almost angrily. Could it really be a waterfall? He stuck his hoof into the water, it immediately was pushed forward by the current. He wanted to jump right in, see how well he could fight against it. But then he would be abandoning his friend, and that would be rude. Sure, he had a chance against the current, but he doubted Ahote did. Even if he was an excellent swimmer, it would be almost impossible.
"I hope so" he said. He had heard of waterfalls, but never accually seen one. Certainly it would be amazing, seeing tons upon tons of water cascading downward to earth from a higher point!
"What do you think?" he asked, fairly sure he knew the land much better then Kiefer did. "Have you ever seen a waterfall before?"

Ahote could sense that something was going to show its face soon. By the way the water was moving, it could be a waterfall, a spot of quick rapids, or a number of other things. Seeing that they were close made him even more excited.
"Of course I've seen a waterfall before! They're really cool, and its fun to stand underneath them. But only if they're not too big. Otherwise, they might knock you down. Well, maybe not you, but they would knock me down!"
He giggled as they went over a small rise in the earth. The water, having gained momentum from the quickness before, had no problem going over the small hill. Ahote hurried to see what awaited them on the other side.

Kiefer grinned "Really?" he said, knowing that no matter how large the waterfall was, if it even existed, he would probably stand under it anyway. It sounded like fun! He only recently began to explore this area, and it seemed there were quite a few different water structures, raids, ponds, rivers, the ocean, and now maybe even waterfalls!
They got over the hill to an amazing sight. A waterfall roared down, it wasn't huge, but fairly large, splashing in a great roar onto the ground. Kiefer began to jump down the rocky hill that led to the bottom of the waterfall, tripping every now and again.
"I bet it will look even more amazing if we get to the bottom!" he said, wondering if Ahote could much such daring jumps at his size. Kiefer hoped he wouldn't have to turn back for his friend.

Ahote was actually quite nimble on the rocky slopes. He had been in similar areas before, and kept his footing quite well. He was excited about the waterfall, as well. He always loved discovering new things, and he had never seen this particular waterfall before.
"Ooh, that one looks pretty big!" he said as they reached the frothing pool of water at the bottom of the waterfall.
He could tell that it was shallow enough for him to stand in. He hopped into the water and waded out towards the falls, the water only reaching just about his knees.

Kiefer jumped in after Ahote, quite pleased at how shallow the water was. It moved fast around his hooves and lower leg, but it wasn't nearly enough to knock him down. It was very slippery as well, but he made sure to keep his footing.
The stallion found himself quite quickly standing before a cloud of white water exploding onto the earth from the waterfall. Even though it had been rapids before, the hill it went up must have taken away a lot of momentum, allowing for the water to be shallow here and not too powerful up there. It came down relatively slowly. For a waterfall, at least.
"This is...SO cool!" he said, immediately dashing into the cloud. In moments he felt the water pushing down on his pack at an expectantly large rate. It felt good almost, like a two-legger was massaging his back.

Ahote giggled and ran around in the water. After the rocky banks, the bottom of the small pool changed to a sandy ground, so there wasn't much danger of slipping. Ahote loved the water, especially after Kitsune had taught him to swim. And Keifer was a great Soquili to play with.
He followed the stallion into the cloud of water and splashed around. At times, Keifer was hidden from view by the wall of falling water, but he could find him quickly and easily by moving around to find him.
He left the falling water and went back to the shallow pool. He watched as Keifer ran around and stood under the waterfall, laughing. He seemed to be really enjoying this.

Kiefer stretched his neck out to look beyond the cascading water, noticing that Ahote wasn't with him. He got out of the waterfall, briefly shaking the droplets of water off him. It seemed in the distance, the sun was rising.
"Wow, have we really been out this long?" he asked, tilting his head to the side. The stallion felt horridly tired, a reminder of his all-nighter. He yawned, suddenly quite aware of how wet he was. And cold.
"Maybe I should try to dry off..." he said, trudging out of the water and onto land. He knew it would be hard to fall asleep during the day, so it would be best to stay awake and dry off, at least. Then if he fell asleep he would would at least be comfortable. Anyway, he would probably only fall asleep out of sheer exhaustion, and not wasting his time trying to sleep in such bright sun.

As Keifer looked to the East, Ahote looked as well, and was just as surprised. He hadn't noticed the passing time at all! He was a bit shocked that he had been up for so long. But when you're having fun, you tend to completely lose track of time.
"Wow, I had no idea! But I'm only a little tired. What about you?"
That was a bit of a bluff. As he thought about it, Ahote realized that his body was actually quite tired. The muscles in his legs felt strained and his eyelids were drooping a bit. He, too, exited the small pool of water, and went to the banks where he laid down to rest for a bit.

Kiefer yawned again. "Wha...Not tired....at all" he said, laying down. His wet coat felt disgusting against the ground, but it suddenly felt very, very comfortable nonetheless. "Maybe I ought to.." he said, unsure what he maybe ought to do.
He looked over at Ahote "You're lying...you're tired, and I'm tired. Staying up all night is a bad idea" he groaned, putting his head rather roughly on the ground, making a thud noise.
He wasn't sure what to do at this point. His fur was already beginning to dry, but his mane and tail had quite a ways, and he knew falling asleep with that being wet was a bad idea. When he woke up, it would be all messy and tangled and have all sorts of sticks in it. He didn't care much about that, but it would be uncomfortable.

As Ahote laid down, he also felt suddenly very comfortable. The soft grass on the banks was very inviting, and giggled a little at Keifer.
"Maybe I am tired. I think I might just sleep here."
He didn't even think about the wetness that still lingered. It didn't bother him much. His hair was always a mess anyways, so he didn't really have anything to worry about. He looked over at Keifer, a very tired smile on his face.
"What about you? Are you goin' to sleep?"
